How do I stop last web pages from auto loading in Safari?

I find the feature of Lion that auto-loads previous web pages (and previous open applications) annoying. I want to stop this function. I see the checked box that asks if I want to re-open applications when logging out but I want the default to be to NOT re-open the apps. I equally dislike the auto-opening of previous web pages in Safari. I know that I can clear my history but what I want is for my homepage to open when I run Safari and not the last page viewed. Any solutions?

Go to terminal and type in the following:
defaults write com.apple.Safari ApplePersistenceIgnoreState YES
If you decide that you rather have the new resume behavior, execute the above commands but change YES to NO.
You can also do the same for Preview:
defaults write com.apple.Preview ApplePersistenceIgnoreState YES

iDrifter: The full command is:
defaults write com.apple.Preview ApplePersistenceIgnoreState YES
I was having the same problem and this is what I did:
1) Closed Safari
2) Changed the setting (mentioned) above in System Preferences
3) Enter the "defaults write ..." command into Terminal.
Now whever I launch Safari it does not load any pages.

Drudgereport includes JavaScript code that refreshes the page. You could disable JavaScript for the drudgereport site, that will stop it from refreshing. There's a good chance this is related to a bug that kicks in when you do not have Flash running in any tab and you open a new window to a page that does use Flash: suddenly, the previous window (typically the one from which you launched the link or bookmark) comes back to the front.

I sometimes would like to directly link one page to another instead of listing every single page in the INDEX. For instance, I have a "Renovations" page with two other renovation pages following.....Can this be done from page to page with Hyperlinks ONLY? Page in navigation menu", this will stop the page
being displayed in the navigation bar at the top of
the screen.
You can then manually create links to your other

this time the Link Tab, choose to Link To: One of My
Pages, and choose the page you wish to link to from

How do I stop the new Pages from updating the old Pages? It is automatically updating, but I don't want it to because it's horrible!!!

I downloaded the new Pages, Keynote, and Numbers, but they're horrible so I deleted them. Now they keep trying to update my old iWorks. I don't want them they are horrible!!! It is automatically updating (I don't have it set to automatic update), so I have it paused, but I don't know how long that will last before they finish the update. Luckily it had stopped trying to upgrade overnight, but your suggestion definitely helped. I checked in the System Preferences and, sure enough, I had the auto-upgrade checked for regular programs but not apps. So, it was doing what I told it, even though it wasn't what I wanted! I am very thankful that I get to stay with my Pages 4 for now. I love my Mac because it has always been so intuitive, searching for what I needed was fairly easy. Unfortunately, some of the new upgrades of late don't fit that bill. Pages 5 has some work to be done before I will feel comfortable switching. Thank you for your help!
Now, any idea why my Calendar has frozen with the message "Moving calendars to server account..." ever since I downloaded Maverick? I have had to do a force quit for the last two nights to get it to shut off so I can turn off my computer. The swirling candycane of death accompanies this message. If the background of links is red then that is probably caused by an extension like SEO or SearchStatus that has the option set to highlight noFollow links.
You can check the options of such an extension.

Agreed, malware isn't the issue. It seems to be a JavaScript call that sets the focus to the search field once the page finishes loading. If I were using Firefox, I could use a plug-in to stop the call, but I don't know of a plug-in for Safari that would let me do that.

How can I stop an network share from auto mounting?

I have a recent 13" MBPr and I installed Steam. For kicks, I told it to save the library on my 10.8 mac mini server. This worked well. It worked so well, I started up Parallels and did the same thing for my steam library on my boot camp partition. I closed Parallels and Steam then put my laptop to sleep. I was away from my home network and repeatedly received messages about not being able to access my server in a standard Finder pop-up. No big deal, I opened Steam to try and remove the library from my list. It was no longer listed.
Upon arriving home I opened steam and still could not find my share in the list. I removed Steam and all it's support files. Still on every boot I get the finder error about not being able to connect to my server. When I boot up my parallels boot camp VM I get the same Finder error. It pops up several (I never bothered to count) before it stops after I keep closing the pop-up.
I've looked at /etc/auto_master and /etc/auto_home, my login items, and I cannot find the process that keeps trying to mount the network share. When I am at my home and reboot my mac or boot parallels I do not receive the error. But I also do not see the mounted share on my desktop. I do see it when I perform the ls command on /Volumes. When I try and cd into it I get a Permission Denied error. Root/Wheel seems to own the mounted share. When I sudo the folder I see all the files stored on that volume.
Does anyone know how I can stop this from happening without resorting to creating a new user? I just got this one the way I like it (before I screwed it up with steam!)

Since both browsers can't load the page, do you have anti virus software installed? How about Little Snitch? And try turning off the Firewall in System Preferences - Security.

Web pages will not load through Safari on all my computers using my AT

I am using Safari 8.0.5 and OS 10.10.13. The last couple days when using Safari through all my computers using my AT&T internet connection, web pages either will not load or they load very slowly. Safari will indicate it cannot find the site. If I run Safari, using all the same computers, through my Verizon MiFi Connection, it works fine. U-Verse works fine. Mail works fine through AT&T. I am able to use Internet Explorer through my AT&T connection on a work lap top without difficulty. I have deleted caches in Safari and deleted history in Safari. I have contacted AT&T and they do not know what is the problem. When I check my download and upload speeds for the internet using Safari and the AT&T connection, they are slow. When I do the same using the Verizon connection, they are fine. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you.

You're not alone. I, too, was having the same problem today. I found your question and had seen that you had contacted AT&T with little success. I had gone to ufix.att.com and ran the self diagnosed test and system reset. My pages are loading a little faster now. Hope this helps.
