Running DefaultCacheServer in a managed server

All,
I want to run a cache server as a separate managed server in the WebLogic domain in order to ease management issues for our ops people. So far, I've tried 3 things that don't work. In each case I use a startup servlet's init() method.
In the first case, I called DefaultCacheServer.main() but this blocked, thus preventing complete deployment.
I also tried CacheFactory.ensureCluster(). This worked in the sense that when I connected with a command line client, I could issue "cache <cachename>" and see that it was picking up the cache config correctly, but attempts to put something into the cache resulted in a "storage not configured" exception. (The client was storage-disabled.)
Finally I tried CacheFactory.getCluster().start(), but this throws "java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Unknown service type: Invocation."
Any ideas how to do this?
thanks
john

Hi John,
did you try calling to:
DefaultCacheServer.start()you should also make a call to
CacheFactory.shutdown()in the stop lifecycle event of your deployment unit.
Best regards,
Robert

  • Trying to run the SOA/BPM managed server withOUT running the Admin server

(This is for demo/development purposes... Using 11.1.1.4 in Windows 7 with 4gb)
Because of memory constrains I am trying to run the BPM/workspaces application without needing the Admin to be running.
When they both run, I can use the credentials I create with the Admin server but the response time is prohibitive and all my memory is used...
It seems to run much faster when only the bpm managed server is running but then I cannot login ...
So my question is simply: Whats the easiest way to set it up so I can use credentials elsewhere without requiring the admin server to be running?
( I could connect to an OID instance I have outside this server or the seeded demo they refer to in other posts ... but do these also require the admin server to be running???)

I don't know if what you want is possible. Only did a suggestion that works fine for me. I'm running SOA Suite and BPM Suite 11.1.1.5 on WLS 10.3.5
Configure a new WLS domain and see if the BPM Dev template is available in your version.
I've tuned my startup script (setSOADomainEnv.cmd) as follows:
    set JAVA_OPTIONS=%JAVA_OPTIONS%
    set DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS=-Xms512m -Xmx1024m
    set PORT_MEM_ARGS=-Xms1536m -Xmx1536m
if "%JAVA_VENDOR%" == "Oracle" goto OracleJVM
    set DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS=%DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS% -XX:PermSize=128m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m
    set PORT_MEM_ARGS=%PORT_MEM_ARGS% -XX:PermSize=256m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m
Use visualvm that's available from your jdk/bin directory to monitor your jvm and optimize it accordingly

  • Running a 9.2 managed server as a windows service

Is it possible to run a WebLogic 9.2 managed server as a windows service? I was able to get the AdminServer to run as a service, but not my managed server. I am not using Node Manager. Should I be? Please help...

Yes. I re-installed and this time I installed node manager and it runs as a windows service. I then was able to get my AdminServer to also run as a windows service, using a script I found in the BEA forum. I start up my managed server now through the Admin Console and it runs ok. Only problem now is that the managed server is not running as a windows service, so that if the machine re-boots I have to manually go in and re-start the managed server again. Do you know how to make the managed server start up automatically too?

  • War not running on managed server but run on admin

    Hi,
WLS 10.3.1 , application deploy on admin runs successfully but doesnot runs when deployed on managed server.
netstat show when access via browser the managed server show connection status as FIN_WAIT_2 but established when accessing via admin.
    any idea why?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
To understand your problem can you let us know
    - If you are using any proxy between the client and WLS.
    - Is this happing with only one managed servers or all the managed servers.
    - What is the basic difference with you try to access the same application when it is deployed on Admin sever and Managed server.
    - Does the response comes from the server (MS) after sometime or its stuck and you do not get any response, and if you do not get it then what do you error do you get if any.

  • Error configuring and starting Managed Server in WebLogic 10.3

    Hi,
I am able to configure and start the Managed Server on windows environment. I am trying to configure Managed Server on linux environment. I am configuring the Managed Server with custom keystore. When I configured the Managed Server I specified the keystore/trustsote information in the Keystores tab of the Admin Console for Managed Server settings. Specified Private Key Alias, Password in SSL tab.But when I am starting the Managed Server from command line, I see the process looking for demo trust files and failing.
Here is the command I run to start the Managed Server:
    ./startManagedWebLogic.sh MyManagedServer1 https://localhost.localdomain:8443

Why is it looking for demotrust.jks file to start the Managed Server. We don't use the demo trust and cannot copy to the location it is referring to. I followed the solution provided at the below link:
    http://serverfault.com/questions/106499/custom-trust-and-custom-identity-keystore-in-weblogic-10-3
There are 2 options given in the link. To update the boot.properties of the Admin Server and appending JAVA_OPTIONS to DomainEnv file. Both of these caused the failure of Admin Server. I couldn't bring up the server after these changes.I also came across posts talking about boot.properties for Managed Server. I don't see the security folder that has boot.properties for my Managed Server (verified it on both windows and linux boxes).
    Thanks in advance.

  • A lot of problem for an error: Cannot start Managed Server through NM

Hi, all. Thank for coming here.
My main problem is cannot start Manager server through Node Manager. I've configured with the same way on my friend's network and It's works but It's wrong with mine.
    my weblogic domain:
Machine 1: Administration Server + 1 Managed server
    Machine 2: 1 Managed server
all of these servers communicate through SSL protocol. When I try to start Managed Server on remote machine:

I can ensure that all of these connection pool has configured to run on 9093 port already. Then I view the DOMAIN_NAME/pointbase.log, it said:
Unable to start the server. start server error: java.net.BindException: Address already in use
I cannot understand what's run on pointbase address ?
All of these error make me angry, because I've configured with the same way on other system and It's work. I've spent all of week to fix these bug, but I'm having nothing :((
    Please help me.

    Thank Jay SenSharma.
I've looked for these JAVA_OPTION values you said, but I cant found them. That value is content of JAVA_DEBUG option, not JAVA_OPTION. In my situation, JAVA_DEBUG=" " (it's not set by default).
    Please re-view my error log:

  • Weblogic 8.1 managed server unable to contact Admin server

I have a strange issue here.
I have admin server on Linux Machine A
Managed server on Linux Machine B.
When i try to start managed server on Machine B, i get the following error.
The WebLogic Server did not start up properly.
Exception raised: 'weblogic.management.configuration.ConfigurationException: [Configuration Management:150001]An error occurred while connecting to the admin server to bootstrap through URL: http://MachineA:7100/wl_management_internal2/Bootstrap, user: system
    java.io.EOFException
    at java.io.ObjectInputStream$BlockDataInputStream.readFully(ObjectInputStream.java:2571)
    at java.io.ObjectInputStream$GetFieldImpl.readFields(ObjectInputStream.java:1990)
The error suggests that managed server on machine B, is unable to contact Admin server on Machine A.
But i know for sure that Admin server is running on that port 7100 for sure.
It has been for the last 3 years.
To see if Machine B and Machine A have network issues, i did telnet.
From Machine B: i typed the following
    telnet MachineA 7100
    Connected to MachineA.
    Escape character is '^]'
The above telnet command tells us that no network issues exist.
After a few tries, the managed server contacts to admin server and comes up.
This is not a one time thing.
I saw this behavior many times.
    How should i resolve this?

    Every thing is configured fine.
    Nothing wrong with Configuration.
This domain has been running for the past 3 years.
Recently, i found something interesting in admin server logs, when i try to start the managed servers.
I realized there will be some amount of hand shake that happens during managed server startup, when it tries to communicate with admin server.
Here is the log snippet when managed server A contacts Admin server and starts up successfully.
    ####<Mar 10, 2009 12:11:42 PM EDT> <Info> <Configuration Management> <Admin Host> <admin-server> <ExecuteThread: '13' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default'> <<WLS Kernel>> <> <BEA-150023> <Bootstrap servlet invoked with action isrunning from managed server Managed Server A.>
    ####<Mar 10, 2009 12:11:42 PM EDT> <Info> <Configuration Management> <Admin Host> <admin-server> <ExecuteThread: '13' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default'> <<WLS Kernel>> <> <BEA-150030> <The bootstrap servlet has acknowledged that the admin server is running to the booting managed server Managed Server A.>
    ####<Mar 10, 2009 12:11:42 PM EDT> <Info> <Configuration Management> <Admin Host> <admin-server> <ExecuteThread: '13' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default'> <<WLS Kernel>> <> <BEA-150023> <Bootstrap servlet invoked with action bootstrap from managed server Managed Server A.>
    ####<Mar 10, 2009 12:11:46 PM EDT> <Info> <Configuration Management> <Admin Host> <admin-server> <ExecuteThread: '13' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default'> <<WLS Kernel>> <> <BEA-150031> <*The bootstrap servlet has finished sending the configuration to Managed Server A*.>
Here is the log snippet when managed server B contacts Admin server and does not start.
    ####<Mar 10, 2009 12:07:07 PM EDT> <Info> <Configuration Management> <Admin Host> <admin-server> <ExecuteThread: '14' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default'> <<WLS Kernel>> <> <BEA-150023> <Bootstrap servlet invoked with action isrunning from managed server Managed Server B.>
    ####<Mar 10, 2009 12:07:07 PM EDT> <Info> <Configuration Management> <Admin Host> <admin-server> <ExecuteThread: '14' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default'> <<WLS Kernel>> <> <BEA-150030> <The bootstrap servlet has acknowledged that the admin server is running to the booting managed server Managed Server B.>
    ####<Mar 10, 2009 12:07:08 PM EDT> <Info> <Configuration Management> <Admin Host> <admin-server> <ExecuteThread: '14' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default'> <<WLS Kernel>> <> <BEA-150023> <Bootstrap servlet invoked with action bootstrap from managed server Managed Server B.>
The difference as you can see here is that managed server starts up only when Admin Server does the following
<*The bootstrap servlet has finished sending the configuration to Managed Server A*.>
Does any one knows why Admin server would not send the above bootstrap configuation all the times for the managed servers?

  • Management console fails connecting to Management server.

I have installed Oracle 9.2 on Red Hat Advanced Server V2.1.
Also installed Management server and client software on the system.
Started everything up: oemctl start oms, agentctl start agent, apachectl start...
Run Manager Console on Linux machine (i.e. locally)
    Runs successfully - connecting stand-alone
Runs successfully - connecting to management sever
Installed client software on a Windows NT PC.
    Runs successfully - connecting stand-alone
FAILS - connecting to Management server
On another NT PC, try running web interface to Management server
FAILS - Same error as when using thick client.
Failure is the same in both cases: The exception (java.lang.NullPointerException) occured.
Failure of both of these suggested a server issue...
Don't know where to find management server logs?
Looking at $ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/logs/error_log seems unable to find files, e.g.:

I have tried reinstalling Oracle website, however this made no difference.

Can you ping the server which is running OEM from the client NT machine?
Are you trying to connect using DNS or IP?
    Verify that this works first.

  • Can't start Managed Server

    Hi,
I'm new to Weblogic. I've installed the admin and managed servers on two different physical servers. Both servers run Solaris OS. For both installations, I install "Administration Server" and "Managed Server, Clusters and Machines" in the "Select Optional Configuration" page. For Admin Server, the ip is 192.168.1.100 and Manager Server (attached under UnixMachine_1) is 192.168.1.101. I run startNodeManager.sh on both servers. On 192.168.101, I run startWebLogic.sh to start the weblogic server. Then, I go to the http://192.168.1.100:7001/console to start the Managed Server, I got an error, "For server ManagedServer1, the Node Manager associated with machine UnixMachine_1 is not reachable. What did I do wrong? Did I miss any step?
    Thanks for any help!
    Regards,
    Johnny

    Hi P-H,
Thanks for your response. I telnet the remote server from admin server with port 5556 and was able to connect. May be my setup is not correct. Here is my installation for both servers:
    Admin Server:
    Domain: MyDomain
    IP: 192.168.1.100
    Port: 7001
Add Managed Server (point to 192.168.1.101)
Add Unix Machine (point to 192.168.1.101)
    Attached Managed Server to Machine
    Manager Server:
    Domain: MyDomain
    IP: 192.168.1.101
    Port: 7003
Add Admin Server (point to 192.168.1.100)
Add Managed Server (localhost or 192.168.1.100)
Add Unix Machine (localhost or 192.168.1.100)
    Attached Managed Server to Machine
On Admin Server, I run StartNodeManager.sh
On Managed Server, I run StartWebLogic.sh, and StartNodeManager.sh
Last, I go to http://192.168.1.100:7001/console to start the managed server and then it failed.
Is this the typical setup for two servers to communicate with each other? Or may be I'm missing something? I'm confuse and have been searching the web for similar configuration or example but didn't find any.
    Thanks,
    Johnny

  • No login command was found for 'WebLogic Server 10.3.5.0 - in managed serve

i am getting following warning when i run my web logic managed server
No login command was found for 'WebLogic Server 10.3.5.0 Fri Apr 1 20:20:06 PDT 2011 1398638 Oracle WebLogic Server Module Dependencies 10.3 Thu Mar 3 14:37:52 PST 2011 Oracle WebLogic Server on JRockit Virtual Edition Module Dependencies 10.3 Thu Feb 3 1.
    Would appreciate suggestions to resolve.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Add -Dweblogic.StdoutDebugEnabled flag while starting the managed server and then post the verbose error message in your next post
For setting the flag follow the below steps
If your using Linux box and not using node manager to start the managed server, add the below line startManagedWebLogic.sh file
    JAVA_OPTIONS="-Dweblogic.StdoutDebugEnabled=true ${JAVA_OPTIONS}"
    echo "JAVA_OPTIONS=${JAVA_OPTIONS}"
If your using Windows box and not using node manager to start the managed server, add the below line startManagedWebLogic.cmd file
    set JAVA_OPTIONS=-Dweblogic.StdoutDebugEnabled=true %JAVA_OPTIONS%
    echo JAVA_OPTIONS=%JAVA_OPTIONS%
If you are starting the Managed server through the node manager then use these flags From Admin console : servers >>>. MS1 >>>> server start >>>> Arguments :-Dweblogic.StdoutDebugEnabled=true

    can anyone help

    Srinath is 100% correct.
If the deployment failed, then there will very likely be some mention in the log.
You state that you checked the log, but you didn't mention whether you found an error, no error, a successful startup, etc. you are providing painfully few details to assist.
I would bet if you posted your .log and .out logs to Pastebin.com - #1 paste tool since 2002 and provided us links, We would be able to point out the error.
Lacking that information, my best advice would be to re-install and double-check you're completing all steps in the correct order.
Also, be sure to always search the product documentation first, the search this forum. For basic issues (e.g., standard installation), there is a high probability that someone else has asked that question.
    I hope that helps,

  • XI 3.0 Installation Problem: no central managment server running

Hi, I am totally new to BO our company just purchased the application and I have installed XI 3.0 on one of our server. I have setup the DB and the installation finished successfully. However I can't find CMS anywhere on the server. It seems like all the other XI 3.0 components are there Business view manager, central configuration manager, etc. they are all in the program list.
The only thing I didn't install is Tomcat. In Central configuration Manager ther Server Intelligence Agent is running. When I try to connect to the server in Business view Manager I receive the following error "The system servername cannot be contacted, but there is no Central Managment Server running at port 6400."
During the installation for "Web Application Server" part I checked the "other" option since I want to use IIS. I have a feeling I need to do some type of post configuration for IIS? Where do I perform this?
    Our setup is:
Window Server 2003 SP2 with all the latest window updates
The latest XI 3.0 (I downloaded it from the product page)
    My questions are:
    1. Does XI work with IIS at  all?
    2. Do I need to install Tomcat and run some kind of connector to have IIS work?
    3. What am I missing for my XI 3.0 it seem the core component is missing (CS)?

Moved from Xcelsius forum to BOE Administration

    Hi Allan,
In answer to your questions - XI 3.0 does not have an IIS interface right now.  You will need to install a java application components in order to access the end user interface for viewing reports (InfoView), the report viewers, the web services and SDKs and the management console (CMC).  The easiest way to do this is to choose the default Tomcat components in the installation and work from there.
If you left everything else as default, then you will have all the necessary application components installed to get the system up and running.  It may just be that your CMS has not started for some reason.  Try stopping and restarting the Server Intelligence Agent (SIA) in the Central Config Manager (CCM) - found in the Start/Programs/Business Objects group.
Once started, try clicking on the "Manage Servers" icon of the CCM (the one with a server and a check mark on it).  This should allow you connect to the system and see which servers have started.  IF you cannot connect, the next step would be to check the windows Event Log.  See if the CMS service started OK.  If it didn't the log should provide you with more information, which you can post here for further assistance.
If it did, and you still cannot connect, you may need to review your network firewall settings and/or your DEP status (see the properties panel for My Computer, choose the Advanced tab, select the Performance settings button, then the Data Execution Prevention tab).
    Happy hunting.
    Derek.

Which version of weblogic and SOA suite have you installed? Which OS are you using? Check on em whether soa-infra is up?
BTW, for Oracle B2B related questions, you should raise threads in Oracle B2B forum -

Try running netstat to see whether another process is actually running at

Also check using ifconfig/ipconfig or directly checking /etc/hosts file of

Try running the manageed server directly (as sort of admin) by not passing
the admin server url and bringing it just like an admin server.
See if this works. If it works, then soemthing wrong in the way the admin
server is receiving the request/security credentials from managed server.
Also make sure both managed and admin servers are on the same patch/service
    pack level.
