How to setup Proxy for Java Web Start App ?

I'm having trouble getting Java Web Start to work.
at... http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/14start/compile.html
It tell me...
To test whether your browser can launch an application using Java Web Start, click this link.
http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorialJWS/uiswing/14start/example-1dot4/HelloJWS.jnlp
I do that & see Java Web Start try to start but get message...
Java Web Start - Invalid Argument
Unable to launch specified application
An error occurred while launching/running the application.
Category: Invalid Argument error
Could not load file/URL specified: C:\Documents and Settings\Will\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\OP8RSBCV\HelloJWS[1].jnlp
Then... http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/information/javawebstart.html tells me...
"This situation usually happens when your browser and your copy of Java Web Start have different proxy settings."
I click Start | Programs | Java Web Start | Java Web Start,,, then click File | Preferences | General
My choices are... Proxies: None   User Browser _ Manual (User Browser grayed out)
If _ Manual checked then I get...
HTTP Proxy ______
HTTP Port _______
I'm running XP Pro via Wi Fi to a Linksys Wi Fi router to a cable modem... I'm also running Zone Alarm (tried turning it off but no luck)
I don't know how to set up the Proxy stuff... can any one please help me get this set up.
thanks - Will

OK, on my XP Pro system I went to...
Start IE -> Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Connections -> Lan Settings -> Proxy Settings
This is my 'Local Area network (LAN) Settings panel...
- user Proxy server for LAN is checked
- Address is blank
- Port is blank
So do I plug something in here... the ip address of my linksys wi-fi router and a port number or what?
My Java Web Start Preferences won't let me click 'Use Browser' only None or Manual
If I click Manual, I don't know what to plug into the HTTP Proxy and HTTP Port fields...
I tried the ip address of my router... thinking it may have a built in Proxy Server... and port 8080 as indicated by the Help page for the Java Web Start... but no luck.
I really appriceate any help on this...
thanks - Will

  • How to enable logging for Java Web Start on Java 6.

    I'm trying to get logging working in Java Web Start from Java 6. In previous versions I was able to specify a log file in the Java Web Star control panel (or whatever it was called) , but I can't work out what to do in the Java 6 version of JWS. I've checked the docs and searched the forums here and on java.net but haven't been able to find anything.
    Does anybody know how I can get this working?
    Cheers
    Stephen.

    Sorry, I was in a hurry and didn't read your e-mail properly. Note: This is a thread in a public forum, not email.
    If it were email, it would be a private conversation,
    between you, me and whoever we add to the addess

    my participation.
    On the public forum, it can be seen by anybody, and

    And on that note, when asking for free advice on
    public forums, please read replies carefully (I
    might ask the same of a consultancy client, but
    since thay are paying by the email - it is really
    their own choice).
    ..the problem is that I can't find where the log file
    is being written. Do you know where it writes to?..
    I understand it is specified in the logging.properties

  • Java Web Start.app, apparent problems.

    I have been experiencing many small problems during web browsing, etc. and have received terrific help from Barry Hemphill but he is unable to help on Java matters.
    When I open Java Web Start app. I get the following message; "You cannot open Java Web Start.app because it it is damaged or incomplete". This is possibly, at least by the app's. name the cause of my troubles, though I am guessing. Can anyone guide me to where I can download and re-install the app. to see if it does overcome my problems. A typical one of them is happening as I type, the screen characters are lagging heavily behind my two-finger typing.

    Hi Brian, Happy Holidays!
    The Java Web Start software is a component of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) and is installed with the JRE.

  • Http Proxy and Java Web Start 1.4.2_08

    Hi All,
    I'm confused as to how Java Web Start is supposed to work with an HTTP proxy. I'm testing an application in an environment which has an http proxy.
    Our application starts successfully with Web Start but the application is failing to connect to URLs. I have dumped the properties right when the app starts and proxyHost, proxyPort, http.proxyHost, http.ProxyPort are all set correctly. But every attempt to connect to URLs timeout.
    Note that running under 1.5, I get the value of the
    javaplugin.proxy.config.list property and use it to set the properties http.proxyHost and http.proxyPort. Then I am able to connect successfully to the same URLs which failed in 1.4.2_08 ( also fails
    with 1.4.2_03).
    Can someone please help me understand what's wrong here?
    Many thanks,
    Jason

    Actually, what I observed, in 1.4.2_08, is that the https.proxy* properties are being set. The http.proxy* properties are not set.
    in 1.5.0_04 none of the properties are set except for
    javaplugin.proxy.config.list, which I use to set http.proxyHost and http.proxyPort.

  • How to package/inlcude C++ .exe and .dll files in a Java Web Start App?

    Hello,
    I have a Java Web Start application that runs fine if the application is only 1 .jar file.
    But I have a need to also run C++ .exe and .dll file from my Java application.
    I wonder if someone could please tell me how to package/include C++ .exe and
    .dll files in my Java web start application?
    Thank you and Best Regards,
    Akino

    You need to place the EXE and DLLs inside the jar.
    Java cannot execute them from the jar. They have to be extracted (see Class.getResourceAsStream) from the jar and copyied into the target machine file system, perahps to the temp directory. Now you can execute them using Runtime.exec() or ProcessBuilder.start().

  • How import policy file with Java Web Start

    hi everybody,
    I wrote an application launched by Java Web Start.
    This application encrypt data on the client side and POST them to the server.
    To encrypt I use JCE packages including sunjce_provider.jar, jce1_2_1.jar and
    local_policy.jar and US_export_policy.jar.
    local_policy.jar and US_export_policy.jar are not packages, each of them contains
    a policy file.
    When I test encryption on local no problem, but when I test with Java Web Start
    I've got this exception :
    java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError:
    java.lang.SecurityException: Cannot set up certs for trusted CAs
    It's because the application launched by Java Web Start doesn't find local_policy.jar
    and US_export_policy.jar.
    There's a problem in my JNLP file :
    <jnlp spec="1.0+" href="http://myserver/sources/test.jnlp" codebase="http://myserver/sources">
         <information>
              <title>Java Web Start TEST</title>

              <jar href="local_policy.jar" />
              <jar href="US_export_policy.jar" />
         </resources>
         <application-desc main-class="HelloWorldSwing" >
              <argument>c:\myfiletoencrypt</argument>
         </application-desc>
    </jnlp>
    thank you for your answer

    Hi Nicolas,
    If you migrate to JDK1.4 and use the signed Bouncy JAR, you could resolve the problem,
    if you don't want to use unlimited cryptography.
    See my posting on your other question.
    Agnes
    PS. There is a mistake in my other reply, the "local_policy.jar" and the other files must have
    to go into JRE/LIB/SECURITY directory

  • Java Update 4 -- "Safe" java-vm-args Arguments for Java Web Start?

    Sun's Java documentation notes that JNLP files can request arbitrary arguments to the virtual machine using the java-vm-args argument. However, only arguments considered "safe" will be recognized. The JNLP spec doesn't list the safe arguments, since the list might change on a per-release basis.
    Unfortunately I can't find a current list of safe arguments either on Apple's site or Sun's site. I am fairly sure that -Xss is no longer on the safe list, since it's not working any more, but it would be nice to have that confirmed.
    Anyone have any ideas/pointers?

    I'm pretty sure that list is not accurate for the Java Web Start released in Update 4 recently. I have an app which attempts to specify heap and stack sizes using java-vm-args="-Xmx1024m -Xms1024m -Xss8m"; when I use the Java console to display memory usage, it shows that the heap is 81MB (which is the default). If I use initial-heap-size="1024m" max-heap-size="1024m" in the same JNLP file, the heap size is set properly.
    Unfortunately I don't think there's any way other than -Xss to set the stack size in a JNLP file, and I need to do that too.
    It's also possible that I screwed something up which caused this problem, but I reproduced it on both my Mac Pro and my Macbook Pro.

  • Customize the "update message" for Java Web Start

    For the default value (false) of silentInstallLicenseAcceptance in Java Web Start when an application's server side has changed, the user will be asked with a message box whether he/she wants to update his local application now or quit the application.
    I would like to know if I can manipulate the message that Java Web Start should ask the user. I also would like to know if I can change the button from Yes/No to Upgrade Now and Upgrade Later.
    Any API reference, idea, tutorial or sample code would be appreciated.

  • Java Web Start apps defaulting to 32-bit JVM; need 64-bit

    We use Java Web Start to install our client interface application.
    When I install on a 64-bit Windows Server 2003 system, the desktop icon that is created points to C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\javaws.exe, which opens the client in a 32-bit JVM.
    How can I get Web Start to generate the icon with a target of C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\javaws.exe so that it will start in a 64-bit JVM?
    Do we control the string that is used for the target or is it a built-in function that we cannot change? (Note: I'm not the developer, just researching the problem so I can tell the coder what, if anything, should be changed.)

    Informs the JNLP Client of the path to the executable for the JRE, if this is an installer for a JRE, and about platform-version this JRE implements. I provide a small [demo. of the EIS|http://pscode.org/jws/api.html#eis].

  • Screen Saver crashing my Java Web Start app

    I've written a Java Web Start time tracker application that all employees run from the time they start work until they leave at the end of the day. The only problem is that there are a couple of people who from time to time find that the application has crashed when they unlock their Windows screen saver. The application window continues to show the screen saver image and the title bar says "Not Responding". In an attempt to get some clues, I had one person keep the java console running - but nothing new appears in the console.
    I've personally tried crashing the app by using screen savers, but I cannot duplicate the problem. I've also tried letting my computer go into standby mode and I've let it hibernate. But every time, the application continues running as soon as I log back in.
    Any ideas as to why the screen saver could trigger a problem like this for some users?

    I've written a Java Web Start ... . The only problem is that there are a couple of people who from time to time find that the application has crashed when they unlock their Windows screen saver. >What screensaver(s)? Some important distinctions might be
    - Windows standard savers (the savers supplied with the OS, if so, do they all use Open-GL or all use...?)
    - Windows compatible, 3rd party savers.
    - Saverbeans screensavers (Java based). E.G. <https://screensavers.dev.java.net/>

  • Java console doesn't launch when starting Java Web Start app from Firefox

    Updated my Linux desktop from RHEL to Fedora 12 with resultant upgrade of Firefox to 3.5.9 and now when I launch our Java Web Start application, no Java console appears. The Java Control Panel still shows "Show Console" as set. My app uses Java 1.5 which I have installed on my desktop.
    What do I do to properly configure my browser/desktop to support use of the Java console?
    Please help, I need to debug our app!

    ..Please help, I need to debug our app!Cannot tell you the answer to your FF hassles (because I have no idea why you're seeing that behaviour(1)), but note that you might be able side-step FF by launching a JWS app. using the javaws tool directly from the command line or an Ant build file.
    1) Though you might try rebooting the machine if any installation/configuration changes have occurred since last boot.
    Also note that many problems with JWS apps. can be sorted be checking the JNLP using JaNeLA.

        "Incorrect value: Unknown Namespace http://sql.java

       I checked all the SOAP runtime,it seems no error.So do I need to create the objects in the Integration Repository??If it is the truth,then how can I do it.

    Hi Martin
    I didn't find this options in SAP GUI Create -->Enterprise Service ->Consumer Service ->url/http
    Maybe my version is different.
    You say that you can select the file ou url.
    Did you select the file or url?
    If was file, open this file, find the tag that you have the wrong namespace and eliminate this tag.
    If was url, access this url, copy the xml and same in one file, then select this file in the step above.
    I don't know if works, its only a suggestion.
