If you also want delete the app from your iPad (you will also need to stop the subscription, just deleting an app won't do that) : press and hold any of the apps and after a couple of seconds or so they should start to shake. Then press the 'x' in the left corner to delete the ones that you don't want, and when you've finished deleting press the home button so as to stop the shaking. If you don't get the 'x' on any of the apps that you've downloaded then check that Settings > General > Restrictions > Deleting Apps isn't set 'off'

How do I get rid of an app that won't quit? scanner problem

I ust tried to install a driver for my POS epson Perfection 1260. the app doesn't work with 10.4.8 and when i tried to delete their 'epson scan monitor' app I'm told it can be deleted because it's in use. I cant force quit because it doesn't show up as an option to quit. any ideas on how to get rid of the app that wont let it self be thrown away?
also any reccomendations on a sscanner that is designed and is fully functional with 10.4.8?

Hi Brian, Scanner drivers and their add ons can be problematic. I used to have HP's driver installed which played havoc with sleeping - the computers', not mine
The epson scan monitor has probably been installed into /Library/StartupItems which is why it's telling you its in use.
Try deleting it from within Safe Boot or open Activity Monitor in Applications/Utilities and quit it from there before deleting it.
I can vouch for The Hatter's recommendation, VueScan. It's a wonderful little lightweight app that doesn't insinuate itself into StartupItems and mess sleeping up.

Try a couple things.......first, reboot your iPad. Press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME tiem for at least 10 seconds (ignore the red slider to shut down) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPad will restart.
Sometimes, the App Store on iPad can get confused. Try downloading a free app (you can delete it later if you don't want it) and then see if that get's your waiting apps to download.

I've had similar issues in the past with downloading an app that appears to be eternally downloading and never finish. What I did was delete the app from my device, (hold your finger till the icons jiggle, etc...) then go back to the app store and start the process over. That has worked for me.

Make a temporary backup of your library (if you don't already have a backup of it) and launch iPhoto with the Command +Option key held down and rebuild the library with options #1, 2, 3 and 6 selected.

How can I get rid of old books that I have deleted from my device? It still shows up as purchased books on "Icloud".

Nooooooo! lol... If I want to download again I will, I don't want an electronic trail. Plus when I have Ibooks open, sometimes I will accidently hit the item and it will immediatly try to download it. The problem with that is that its "Time magazines Best Photos of 2012" etc and it locks up my IPAD cuz of sheer size of the book. So I would like it gone from the history. If there are multiple apps trying to download at once, only one can download at a time and the rest say "Waiting" until it is then their turn. Try this. Double tap the icon of the Waiting app, and it should resume the download.

Another thing to try - Turn the iPad Off & then back ON.
If that doesn't work:
• Log out of your iTunes store account. Go to Settings > Store > Sign Out Then press the Home button.
• Then press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously and don't release them when it brings up the Turn Off screen; keep holding them until the Apple logo appears.

You cannot stop it from popping up.
it will continue every few minutes until its installed.
