I can't start up my 15in macbook pro due to a reoccurring kernel panic from insufficient RAM
About a week ago my mac froze so I shut it off to restart it, and when it began start up the kernel panic showed up, since then I haven't been able to start it without get stuck on the kernel panic. I'm pretty sure its because of insufficient RAM space, which I've been meaning to clear for a while because I knew it was practically full but I kept forgetting. But now I don't know what to do because I can't get passed the kernel panic (I tried a safe boot as well). Also, I'm away from home for the next month or so, and the country I'm currently in does not have any apple stores so I can't take it to a genius bar. Is there anything I can do?
I think you may be confusing RAM with disk space.
One more time boot in Safe Mode. Keep in mind a Safe Mode boot takes much longer then a normal boot so be patient.
Once you see the Desktop, right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on the Desktop then click Get Info.
In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.
If there's not enough free disk space, follow the instructions here > Freeing Up Hard Disk Space - Mac GuidesFreeing Up Hard Disk Space - Mac Guides

I recently saw that for os x server apple says that you can run it on inexpensive hardware like mac pro, imac and mac mini. It doesn't say anything about notebooks. So if i buy os x server will i be able to run it on my macbook pro mid 2012 with i5 2.5 GH, 4 Gb RAM and 10.8.4?
Thanks.Welcome to Apple Support Communities
OS X Server is compatible with any Mac that runs OS X Mountain Lion, so you can install it on any MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, Mac mini or Mac Pro that supports Mountain Lion > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs
Just open the App Store and purchase OS X Server. The app will appear after finishing the download, so follow its steps to set up OS X Server on your computer. You will be able to install it for free in all your computers after purchasing it. If you want more information about OS X Server, read > http://www.apple.com/osx/server/ -
MacBook Pro 2011 Snow Leopard Constant Kernel Panics
Before the Kernel Panics I was getting a lot of screen flickering and feezing. After my operating system Snow Leopard 10.6.8 was reinstalled and a new logic board put in I started getting Kernel Panics. Back to the Apple store and my computer went out for a new Logic Board, Graphic Card and Display and I am still getting Kernel Panics daily. I purchased my MacBook Pro in March of 2011 and this all started in April. Below is my latest Kernel Panic report. Any ideas what is wrong with my computer?

Maybe this log is formatted differently. Try disconnecting the Toshiba external USB hub. Have you installed any third party RAM? Even if not, check the RAM by running a few loops of Rember.
EDIT: Oh, OK I'm seeing loaded kexts: com.AmbrosiaSW.AudioSupport! 4.0
Third party programs with kernel extensions can be a culprit. Try uninstalling that or seeing if there's an update.
But you needn't completely uninstall a program(s) suspected of creating these panics. This may not always work, but the worst that can happen is it will fail. Far better than completely uninstalling and reinstalling the full program, if it proves not to be the cause. Instead, you can temporarily disable a program. This may be especially useful when there are several suspects.
To temporarily disable/unload any .kext (kernel extension) which may be causing the problem, do the following: Open Terminal in Applications>Utilties and copy/paste
sudo kextunload
Important, leave a space after kextunload
Next, navigate to the /System/Library/ and select Extensions. Inside that folder, find the related .kext in question, which you should drag into the Terminal window. (After dragging it in, the file will stay where it belongs in its original location.) This will automatically fill the Terminal window with the name and path to the file.
This is an example only of what the full command will then look like; it will not necessarily be found on your computer.
sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/PaceSupportFamily.kext/
Hit return. If you have never used the sudo prefix before, you will get a warning, which you can disregard. Then enter your admin password, which you won't see on the screen as you type it in and hit return. Wait for the $ sign prompt to reappear, which will indicate the extension has been unloaded. Then just close the window.
This will have the effect of disabling the program. If it fails to be the source of the problem, to reload/enable it, substitute kextload for kextunload, using the above procedure.
Other than that, have a look at this article on resolving kernel panics. Kernel Panics may be caused either by software or hardware. Faulty RAM is a frequent cause.

15" Macbook Pro Mid 2010 . Constant Kernel Panic and Reboot
Hello, im having this issue from six months ago. The problem its a constant rebooting of my mac , when turned on shows a Kernel Panic inform that i copy here. I have contacted the tech support here in my country ( Argentina ) but they can not solve the problem. They told me than cand be a logic board issue, but in all the hardware test the macbook get an OK ! The only strange they discover is a electric problem in the usb ports, but i dont have any problems whith pen drives or usb external disks.
The rebooting its unpredicible , but in some cases like using the spacebar for previewing files if i do it five or six times it reboots instantly showing then the Kernel Error.
I really nedd help !
Thank you, and sorry for the monkey insland English !

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers may not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue.
Print the first page of the panic report, and the support page linked above, and bring them with you.
Note that the replacement program only applies within three years of purchase. If you wait beyond that date, Apple may refuse the service.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
You may be able to stop the panics by disabling automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saver preference pane, but that's not a solution.
Most likely, the logic board will be replaced. Sometimes the replacement part is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility. -
MacBook Pro Mid-2010 15" Frequent Kernel Panics
Hello all,
I have been experiencing frequent kernel panic shutdowns (2-3 a day) since upgrading to Yosemite. To compound matters, after each panic is an additional restart as my computer is already in the process of restarting, so I never get the crash log or option to send it, and I can't decipher the logs in Console to find them--if they exist.
This is also happening to my daughter's identical model, and was happening after updating to 10.9.5 a while ago. I took my laptop to the Genius bar and they tried to tell me there was an issue with my video card (GPU) and that it would need replacing. I was doubtful about that diagnosis and opted not to repair (no time to give up my computer for the time needed anyway), and with my daughter's problem I seem to be vindicated. Prior to installing Yosemite I reinstalled 10.9.5 and was crash-free for a week before upgrading to Yosemite. Now the problem is getting worse, and reinstalling did not fix it.
I am attaching my daughter's recent crash log with the same GPU incident that the Genius showed me.
Any ideas or inspiration would be welcome.
Thanks,
Lou

Thunderbolt Bus:Thanks for your reply. But please try to understand why we (affected people) are not happy for this problem.
Actually Apple store's staff also told me that is known "H/W" fault when i brought my macbook to run VST last week.
Apple claimed this is H/W fault and suggested us to change logic board. The interesting thing is, this problem was existed from long time ago. Please check this URL > MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video - Apple Support
After read the page above, you should understand that version 10.8 or before also got this "H/W" problem but Apple tried to fix this for 10.8 or before.
From 10.9, no more support for this problem. Until 10.10 released, you may search "GPUPanic 2010 mid macbook" from google and you will see how many people was affected by this problem.
I also want to classify what is the definition of H/W fault. If apple can isolate the bug of the logic which was burnt on logic board (version 10.8 or before), then this is software fix for H/W fault.
If Apple OS development team can just check our macbook version from OS and escape the "H/W" logic bug, all 2010 mid macbook will not be affected again.
For real H/W fault, I don't think so many people will see same error at same period (after upgraded to 10.10) like this > ... AppleMuxControl/kext/GPUPanic.cpp:127
The important point is, Apple provided OS update for us before 10.8, then we didnt know the actual graphic card's problem.
We trusted Apple and bought macbook. But Apple told us that our graphic card got "H/W" fault and no more support from 10.9.
I like macbook and saved money to buy this in 2010. Using it carefully up to now. Finally Apple told me that my macbook's graphic card got problem and asked me to change(buy) logic board for fixing this problem.
In Sep 2014, I'd just bought new macbook for my girl friend which is new model 2014 15" macbook pro. I told her macbook is very stable and have no problem. What a big joke to me......and to all affected people. -
Macbook Pro Late 2013 Photoshop CC Kernel Panics
I have a Macbook Pro 15" late 2013 / 2.3ghz / 16gb RAM / 500gb HD / OSX 10.9.1 /
When using Photoshop CC 14.1.2 I get regular system crashes (the grey screen of death - which reboots your mac).
Usually these crashes happen when i'm not even doing anything, like taking a phone call. I've had at least 3 in the last week.

2007 Macbook Pro 17" - Motherboard is Dead (Kernel Panic)
Hi guys,
This is kind of frustrating as it seems like I now have to pay 5000 HKD to replace the entire motherboard after 2.5 years of usage.
I turned on the MBP the other day and got really intense flickering on the monitor, followed by scrambled video. After turning off the computer and re-booting, I get the dreaded Kernel Panic.
Investigation this issue leads me to an apple support notification that several 2007-2008 manufactured MBPs with an NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT M video card may cause this problem and that Apple will fix this free of charge.
No problem - I send this to my nearest Apple repair centre and they charge me 600 HKD to diagnose the problem, only to come back 2 days later and say that the MBP's motherboard needs to be replaced. After pleading with them that my MBP displayed classic signs of problems related to the GeForce 8600GT, they told me that it was the motherboard that was at fault.
I then asked them to issue a diagnostic report, and it was basically a company slip with typing on it reading "kenral panic cause by logic board defective, need to replace" (sorry for bad English, I'm translating word-for-word what was typed on the note).
Calling Apple directly and asking them about this issue resulted in them simply saying that if the repair centre believes its a motherboard failure, then I will have to pay the 5000 HKD to replace it.
I was HOPING that a "diagnostic report" would be a computer generated log which will show officially where the problem lies - and not my repair technician randomly writing down on a slip what he believes the problem is.
For those that have more knowledge of this, can anyone shed any light as to whether or not the video card could have made the motherboard defective? Or is this something that is not realistic?
Sorry to sound cheap, I understand a lot of people may be in my position and will have to pay, but I would like to explore all options before I pay 5000 HKD to replace a motherboard on a computer that I purchased on March 2008.
The only suggestion that Apple gave me was for me to take it to another appointed repair centre and get a second opinion. Of course, this will cost another 600 HKD just for them to look at.
Am I being unreasonable for asking all these questions and bothering Apple so much?

This is a user to user forum. All we can say is to bring a copy of the exchange/repair program documentation to the repair center and let them know that this has been covered free before. -
MacBook Pro Won't Boot. Kernel Panic. Only Windows Partition Works
So one day I was using my mac when it froze for no apparent reason, i was just running iTunes, so i held the power key and it shut down. After a while, i turned it back on and it got to the apple but then i got a bunch of errors i guess, around the lines of kernel panic. So i went online and read other peoples problems but none of them seamed to work. It wont start up normally, not in safe mode, recovery drive wont boot, only the windows partition works. i reset my PRAM i think its called and that failed. someone online said to re-install lion. i dont have a lion recovery usb thingy, but i have a lion disk, but my disk drive no longer works due to hardware damage. so i need to back up my files from my mac partition and re-install lion OR just get rid of the Kernel Panic Thingy.
ps. everytime i try to boot mac, i get a different error message.
any help is greatly appreciatedAre you willing to lose the data that isn't backed up? If not, you have to try to back up now, before you do anything else.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to fully boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
1. Boot into Recovery (command-R at startup; 10.7 or later), from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup; 10.7.2 or later), or from your installation disc (C key at startup; 10.6.8 or earlier.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in the support article linked below, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
How to back up and restore your files
2. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode by holding down the key combination command-T at the startup chime. Connect the two Macs with a FireWire or Thunderbolt cable. The internal drive of the machine running in target mode will mount as an external drive on the other machine. Copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.

MacBook Pro lagging Flash/Powerbook G4 kernel panic attack
Works great on my PC, but this is ridiculous. Youtube lags so hard and Im not able to post comments on videos. Powerbook G4 gave me a kernel panic attack, which was the first EVER I had on that 4.5 yr old computer.

Can not start up on my Macbook pro. All I get is a grey spinning wheel. Tried all the Startup key combinations and nothing works. I reset the NVRAM and nothing. I booted with start up disk , ran disk repair and all is ok. Tried to re-install OS but when I get to designating drive its blank. When I go to startup disk there is a "?" mark. When I restart under startup disk search for a drive it still comes up with nothing. Before I got the grey spinning wheel I had a locked screen. Could not move curser or click on anything. Finally just shut down. Thank you in advance for any help!
Shouldn't still have a 'beachballing'... if the drive is being found and the system is trying to boot from it but is having problems, I would suggest looking over ds store's user tip - Step by step to fix your Mac.
It's likely either something corrupt in your system files or a failing hard drive. But follow ds's steps until you find the cause of the problem.
Good luck,

Can't install Snow Leopard on Macbook Pro MC700 - 3 beeps after installer starts.
can't install Snow Leopard on Macbook Pro MC700 - 3 beeps after installer starts (10.6.3 retail). Lion installer starts normally. What's a problem?
I have the same trouble, I try installing rEFI but when I try start my Pro from DVD doesn't recognize.
Can I start from USB Memory? with files from SL DVD? or have some thing else?
I have original DVD of SL 10.6.3, if I buy the latest stable version, can I install? or the EFI firmware with Lion change again?
I try to use Lion, more than one week but I can't, and some app that I use for my profession, doesn't work, I really need downgrade to SL.
Really Thanks for any help.

Situation:
I have a 15in Macbook Pro early 2011 that I can not shutdown nor can I run disk utility to repair any issues. I recently had it serviced to replace a failing hard drive.
Known issues:
- Disk Utility: Will not respond. A couple days ago I had to run it to repair some damage to harddrive. When I try to open it, it is frozen with the rainbow ball.
- Shutdown: I can not shutdown or restart my computer as it freezes during shutdown with grey screen. I can manually turn it on and off by holding down the power button.
- Disc Drive: This may not be related but I can not eject DVD in the disc drive.
Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. I currently live overseas (for school) so just going to an Apple store is not really a realistic option for me at this time. Thanksthetribes wrote:

Take it back to where you had it serviced, there is usually a ~90 day guarantee
you can force a shutdown by holding the power button for longer than usual. -
