ID CS6 crash on book export pdf
ID6 crashes on exporting PDF of a book no matter what preset, get stucked in random places, in different books, but always the same place in the same doc, this happen to me with every book i've tried to export (selecting all the files in the book palette and then "exporting book to PDF")
individual files exported ok.
CS4 version of Indesign can manage the same file and exporting the whole book.
OSX 10.6.8
Mac Pro / 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon / 3GB 1066 MHz DDR3
InDesign CS6 8.0
ps: after 38 views and no clues i start to believe there is no solution
Does the file export correctly with previous version of ID?
A bug is logged for a simlar issue #3229808 . As pointed by Peter, it happens because of shortage in memory allocation for big files.
Divide and conquer should be the current work-around. Identify the the page that is heavy and export in parts.

InDesign CS5.5 - Book export PDF - Folio
Hi
I have been noticed that the BOOK option PDF exported from InDesign CS5.5 is having issue with continuous page numbering (Folio). The merged book PDF is having repeated Folio in Running Heads, but the InDesign Source document has the Folios placed perfectly with page numbering option. Individual PDF created from InDesign document was also fine - no issues with Folio. CS5.5 update 7/7.2 is having the issue with Folio on Book exported PDF.
Have any one of you faced these issues and solution - Please update.Had the same problem – drove me mad. Only one or two chapters in each book were effected. And because we did not spot this, we were selling books with the same page number all through a chapter.
Solution.
I found a solution that works every time, and it is quite simple. The problem lies in the Master Pages section.
The solution is to create a new Master Page (but not copying the previous Master). Copy details from a Master Page that works! Make sure the new Master has the same dimensions and indents as the old one.
Then change all the pages in that chapter to the new Corrected Master. (A global change to all pages – easy to do).
Presto – you should have proper page numbering in the resulting pdf.

CS6 crashes trying to export to PDF interactive
I am trying to export a file from CS6 to a PDF interactive file. Every time I try CS6 crashes and I can't figure out why considering the pre-flight check says everything is ok. I am running Windows 7
It's most likely a problem with an image, but the only way to find out in Windows is "divide and conquer."
Try exporting the front half, then the back half. If both halves export successfully, it's a system resources issue and there's nothing really to do but combine the two halves in Acrobat.
If either half fails, divide it again and repeat. Continue to divide any part that fails until you isolate a page, then remove half the content from the page to do a similar analysis. You may want to do all this on a copy. -

InDesign CS6 crashes when I export to PDF
VERY frustrating!! Can anyone help please? Thanks
Can you inform us on
Operating system

What is the content of the file
How do you export (interactive or print)
Which settings do you use
What is going on before it crashes -
InDesign Crashing, Can't export PDF. Please help.
I recently converted a 70+ document InDesign book project from CS 5.5 to CS6. I've also transitioned over to a new computer, being sure that all my plugins are the same on both computers. Somewhere along the way, I stopped being able to export a PDF of this particular book.
I've tried everything I know to do:
Deleted preference
Deleted InDesign caches
Exported all files from INDD to IDML, and then back again.
Converted all cross references to DTP Tool x-ref Pro.
Created a new book file and moved all my fresh INDD files there.
Exported just a few documents at a time.
Tried exporting with different PDF settings
Tried exporting Interactive PDF
Tried exporting flattened PDF...
Sometimes, the book hangs at about 75%, other times, it crashes it I just try to export the first few chapters only. When InDesign locks up at the 75% mark, my entire computer locks up, and I get a gray screen with nothing but the InDesign splash screen. Then I have to force restart. But then I have to normally restart, as whenever I force restart, my external hard drives (where my book is located) become read only.
I have done everything I know to export a PDF of this book. I don't know what to do... I am desparate. Anyone out there who can take a look at my crash report and interpret it for me?
I have posted it on paste bin: http://pastebin.com/YmRXqsfcWell, I don't have a lotof other great ideas.
If you have an auto-activation plugin for a font manager, remove it from the plugins folder and activate the fonts manually. Troubleshoot the fonts (see Troubleshoot fonts | Mac OS X), and clear the font caches using a utility like Cocktail.
Export the chapter files to .idml again, and resave as new .indd files (back up the old ones, first, though, becasue with cross refs I think you'll have to overwrite the old files or they'll break (have you actually verified them to be sure they're OK now?). Make a new .indb file and add the new chapter files again.
Beyond that you're getting into things like trying to move pages into anew document, or rebuilding chapters from tagged text exported from the current files. -
InDesign cs6 crashes when I export to an epub file.
The file orginally was a cs5.5 file. I have tried rebuilding the file in a new digital file but that hasn't worked. When I save it to open it in cs5.5, I can export to an epub file without any problem. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm running OS 10.7 and I have 4 Gigs of memory. I upgraded to cs6 principally because the advanced epub ability as I'll be publishing mainly e-books. Help! What's happening?
Here is the beginnings of the crash report. (I tried using a converted IDML file.)

Message was edited by: JSiamonThanks for your response. I just gave up and rebuilt the file and now the file is fine. Incidentally, I had created two InDesign book files at the same time and one opened in CS6 without any problem. Both use the same chapter head graphics -- so who knows what strange beasts these computer programs are.

InDesign CS6 Crashing While Converting to PDF
Trying to convert a file to PDF and it is crashing repeatedly, regardless of the file I open. I'm running OSX 10.8.2 and InDesign 8.0.1, I've renamed the preference and data files to no avail.
Here's the full error output:
http://pastebin.com/V5MBhWjh
Your help is greatly appreciated!Hi MTrevinoJr
shnath is probably correct but surprised no one suggest to double check.
If on OSX 10.8.2, create a dummy account and login in, creates clean instance.
If it works in there, then suggest it is a font or job options issue.
To illuminate the fonts, suggest you use a proper font management tool such as http://www.fontexplorerx.com/mactrial/
Good luck

InDesign CS6 crashes during PDF export
I have been attempting to export a magazine design to PDF using the dialogue in InDesign CS6 (for Mac). The PDF gets to around 90% in the background tasks panel and crashes every time. I have removed preferences, reinstalled InDesign, upgraded to Suitcase Fusion 4 and am still having problems. I have even tried printing as a .ps file and it crashes during that as well. A few weeks ago I had a similar problem but found that I was opening CS5 .indd files and not resaving them as CS6 .indd files before exporting. Once I resaved/renamed them in CS6 it appeared to fix the problem. Now I can't seem to fix this one. I have exported other files and it works fine. I even packaged the .idml file and a colleague of mine opened it up in CS5.5 and was able to export it. I thought it might have something to do with corrupt fonts but I disabled all fonts and still couldn't get it to export. Any help or advice would be much appreciated as I am on a deadline. Here is the code from my latest crash report: http://pastebin.com/mRCLsYti

Mac InDesign CS6 crashes when adding files with links to Windows network into book
Our Mac network is unstable, so I tested linking InDesign CS6 files (on my Mac's hard drive) to .jpg files on our company's very stable Windows network rather to the same .jpg files on our Mac network. I tested with 4 simple, small InDesign files. When these 4 files were linked to images on a storage drive on our Mac network, I could drag all 4 files into a book and export the book to PDF. But when linked to the same images on the Windows network, while each file would open fine with no errors, and while I could generate a PDF from each individual file, the moment I dragged the 4 files into a book, InDesign crashed, generating pages of information in the crash report form.
I have no problem making 500 page manuals on my hard drive, comprised of about 50 InDesign files, with links to THOUSANDS of image files on a storage drive on our Mac network. Is there some trick to making a book with files linked to images on a Windows network? If there is no simple answer, who could I call to set us up so this will work?
I'm using InDesign CS6 for Mac, totally updated, version 8.0.1.
Thank you so much!!!It seems, this is all you need to do... your message isn't clear as to whether you've fixed your issue or not.
[Extract from link above]...
"Add the network share(s) to your Favorites in Bridge and drag assets into your layouts from Bridge or Mini-Bridge. The paths stored in the InDesign links will be full network paths, and both sets of machines should have no problem finding them. This is the more usual InDesign workflow." -
Indesign Crashes when exporting PDF
Hi,
We are experiencing an issue when exporting an .indd file as .pdf. The process gets as far as a certain page (8 out of 13) and then crashes when reading a pdf image from that page. It does one of two things - it crashes or displays an 'out of memory' message. We had task manager running alongside the program to check memory usage and there are no major spikes during the export process (it doesn't even hit 80%)
- We can export every other page in the document except this one
- The export works without marks & bleeds enabled (not really sure of the terminology so I do apologise)
The document is going off to print so the pdf image has to be of high resolution. Does anyone have any ideas as to how we can get around this issue?
The INdesign package is CS4 (32bit) and the pc has 4GB of RAM
Any assistance would be much appreciatedFriends I'm reading all the posts, but I have the same problem. My Indesign crashes exporting a document of 60 pages into pdf.
Can anybody help me please? The next week I have to deliver the project. Thank you!

CS3: Export PDF crash...located the source, now what?
InDesign CS3 keeps crashing on page 86 or 87 of a file I'm trying to Export to PDF. I know this from watching the progress bar move across the screen, everything is fine until the status box shows page 86/87, then poof, InDesign disappears and requests to send an error report. I was under the impression this was being caused by the Export PDF settings. With printer's marks enabled, the Export PDF crash occurs on page 86. Turn printer's marks off and the crash happens on page 87. So I tried all kinds of things with Export PDF settings but came up empty.
Then I messed around with pages 86 and 87. Removed text frames from page 86 and tried various combinations with Export PDF. Did the same thing on page 87, and then combinations of 86 and 87 at the same time. No good...keeps crashing. I removed ALL content from pages 86 and 87 and the Export PDF still crashes, even with blank pages.
I finally got a clue when moving text frames to other pages. Both pages have 4 text frames each. When I moved the top text frame on page 87 to a different page -- in this case I moved it to page 98 -- the Export PDF crashed on page 96. Not page 98 where it was located, but page 96. Weird, but it gave me a clue.
Long story short:
Export PDF causes InDesign to crash on page 86 or 87 unless the uppermost text frame on page 87 is moved to a non-printing layer. The text frame can remain on page 87 or be on the pasteboard; either way, it must be non-printing to prevent a crash in Export PDF mode.
Any suggestions? I've already searched the text frame and nothing out of the ordinary catches my eye. The text frame is necessary for a book project. I can't consolidate it with another frame.
Thanks in advance! My memory is not so great after all...
The bug was in CS4 and it was fixed in 6.0.4. I remembered the rest correctly...
Here's the tech note:

ID CS 4 exporting PDF books with low-res graphics
I've been exporting ID CS 4 documents to PDF with absolutely no problems, but today I created a book containing multiple documents, and I'm running into a snag when exporting.
If I open a single document and export as PDF, everything is fine. All the images in the document are rendered in high resolution.
If I open a book containing that very same document as well as another document, then I export the book as PDF, many, but not all, of the graphics in the original document are rendered in very low resolution. See image below.
Why? I didn't change a single thing in the dialog box for exporting to PDF.
I did several tests and it appears that if I open all the documents which comprise the book, all the images in the exported PDF are high resolution as desired. However, ultimately I want to create a book with 120+ documents, and there's no way I can keep them all open in memory without ID crashing. Yes, I suppose I can open a subset of the documents, export them, then combine the PDFs in Acrobat, but that's a cludge workaround.
Surely ID CS4 should be able to properly export as PDF a book containing a lot of documents with images, but damned if I can figure out what's causing these low-res images to appear.
If anyone has a solution, I would be very grateful if you'd share it with me.I don't have a lot of files to test with, but I have one book that has about a dozen component files and around 200 images that's still in CS4. I just tried and export withthe docs closed here, and ID opened them all, as expected, exported, and reclosed them. I see no signs of image degradation, but these are not scaled images -- they were all converted to the correct profiles and scaled in Photoshop and then re-linked during the editing process, and I run Windows, and I'm only at 6.0.5 because this book has a number of Illustrator charts that I spent hours getting right in the first edition and I didn't want to risk them changing, so it may be an apples to oranges comparison.
The last thing I have for a suggestion to try would be a manual prefs replacement (so you can put your current set back when it turns out to be irrelevant). See Replace Your Preferences
Other than that, I'd say you may have found yourself a bug, and there's not a chance in the world that it will ever be fixed for CS4. -
Help! I upgraded to CS6 on my computer at work and now I cannot export any of my ID files that were created in CS5. I did all of the recommended fixes that I could find and they all failed. Basically, ID crashes the minute I hit Ok on the export window. Soooo...I installed the Mac version on my new Mac at home and the same thing happens. I read that there has been a problem with Acrobat 30 days after installation, so I installed CS6 on my new laptop just now and the same thing happens. I created a new file in CS6, exported and it worked fine. ALL of my work files are in CS5 or below... do I have to go back to CS5 in order to work with them?
I am running Windows 7 on both the PC and the LaptopWe have seen cases where a PDF fails in CS6, but works after exporting to .idml and opening in CS5. I don't recall if all of the problems were ultimaely resolved, but I've seen cases of outlining type (not my favorite), font substitution (not always an option, especially with a placed PDF), and font re-installation all used. In cases where there's a problem with a placed PDF, it can help to have the PDF remade by the supplier, and of course you can check the general font troubleshooting pages in the knowledgebase.
