Implementation/Configuration/Best Practises for the Solman System.

Hello Guys,
In our landscape, we tried to configure the Solman system for Service Desk Functionality.
But the system does not work as expected, I am sure there has been a lot of misconfiguration and setups.
e.g.
1. When we directly try to create a message to SAP from the Support Message it goes to the webpage but does not detect the system in SMSY (  shows the error that system is not maintained in SMSY though they are maintained there ).
2. The S user Id is not detected.
3. How should we connect and synchronize the Solman of our system with that of other external Solman system so that we can directly see the issues/support messages in the landscape of that Solman system.
Similarly there are various questions related to the Solman.
This is a learning project for us but soon we are to implement this in actual business scenarios.
Can you please suggest any Best Practice kind of guide/document/paper for the purpose?
PL guide guys,
Thanks and Regards,
Yuvi.

Hi Fabricius,
Thanks for providing that link.
It lists a lot of information but not what we are looking for.
e.g. If you see the Service Desk under Incident Management, in the prerequisites itself it says that "The Service Desk is configured for the Solution Manager according to the configuration guide."
And this is exactly we are trying to do - Configure the SolMan system.
Now which is this "Configuration Guide" mentioned in this prerequisite?
In the "http://service.sap.com/instguides" ,or on SAPNET itself for that matter, I could not find it!
Any idea?
Pl help.
Regards,
Yuvi.

  • Charm implementation: No maintenance cycle is open for the current system

    Gurus,
    I'm in implementation project to use charm.
    I've created SDCR using charm_create, and choose transaction type subject "Development (implementation)"
    After approving the change request, so that the status become "Approved", I re-open the request to set into "in development", but there's error:
    "No maintenance cycle is open for the current system"
    I've checked notes and search the forum but not relevant to my subject.
    Please help.
    Regards,

    Hi Cesar,
    I'm facing this issue now. I have followed Dolores blog
    - The IBase is wrong: The IBase/component must represent the production system in the project landscape. RP1 is my production
    - Lack of authorizations: Assign role "SAP_SOCM_ADMIN" or "SAP_CM_ADMINISTRATOR_COMP" (or equivalent) to the user who would like to approve the change request. I have updated all roles and given the users SAP_ALL
    - Project is locked in table /TMWFLOW/PROJMAP: If an error is detected during the processing, then the project might be locked in this table. The customer can unlock it by pressing the refresh button under tab "System Landscape" -> "Change Requests". If there are other error messages shown during the refresh process, the customer must fix those errors beforehand. Refreshed it many times without errors
    I'm on the latest level of Solman 7.1 SP8, I have implemented all the new notes as well.
    I have attached a screenshot
    To me it seems like a bug, but haven't found anything on marketplace. Any help is much appreciated.

  • ECC 6.0 upgrade to  Best practise for chemical industry implementation

    Dear All.,
    Please tell me what all the  EHP3 must be updated in the SAP erp ecc 6.0. I have already updated
    SAP_APPL 60304.
    Tell me what is the next Ehp3 required before i start best practise in saint.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Manju

    Dear sir.,
    I have  installed SAP ECC 6.0 for a chemical industry, now am planning to implement Best practise to reduce implementation time.
    1) As per the SAP Quick quide i have downloaded best practise for chemical industry(IS) and implemented through SAINT,  and the prerequisites were maintained as per the SAP notes 774615,1301301,1064635,
    2)The above mentioned notes explains minimum stack11 and sapka=18,sapkb=18,sapbw=20,PI_Basis-2005_1_700=20 and sap_ap=15 to update Ehp3 for SAP_APPL603.
    3) After updating all the above mentioned patch level i implemented the Best practise in saint and that was successful.
    But still  the problem persist in activation of BP by tcode /n/smb/bbi only 70% has been completed and activation stoped with *ABAP program error ASSIGNSUBSTRING_NOT_ALLOWED and relevent note is 1295083*_
    Please  any one tell me, is that required to update all the EHP3 components since i have maintained only SAP_APPL60304.
    What all Ehp3 components should be updated to get a smooth activation og BP for chemical industry.

  • What is the best practise for setting dirty flag of a page/view?

    For a page/view, normaylly there are 2 things to do for diry data:
    1. when it's clean, Save button is disabled, when it's dirty, save button is enabled.
    2. when it's dirty and the window is closed, a popup says "you have unsaved data, close will lose the data".
    My thought is: it must be handled at client side, because not all valuechange is auto submitted. E.g., you type the 1st letter of a string in a input box, the server side does not know it, but save button should be enabled immediately.
    Is it possible to capture all valueChange events in a page or a view at client side?
    I'm not sure what is the best practise for setting dirty flag? If there is better solution? Does ADF provide facility for this?

    public void save(ActionEvent event){
    boolean formValid = isFormValid();
       if (formValid) {
      save button is enabled.
        private boolean isFormValid() {
            boolean valid = true;
            if (Check Condition 1) {
                valid = false;
               showErrorMessage1();
            if (Check Condition 2) {
                valid = false;
               showErrorMessage1();
            return valid;
        private void showErrorMessage1() {
                    when it's dirty and the window is closed, a popup says "you have unsaved data, close will lose the data".

  • Wats the best practise for performance

    Hi all,
    In my out line i have 15 dimensions and for one dimension i have 39000 members so wat is the best practise for performance , If we have more dimensions and more meebers is there any problem for performance
    so wat is the best practise for dimensions and members??
    Thanks in advance??

    If it is ASO application it is not a problem.
    If it is a BSO application surely it will hit the performance.
    More dimensions will create performance issues.
    If the said 39000 members dimension is a Flat dimension. It will be another issue.
    If BSO is obvious try to split into two models.
    Create intermediate groupings for the Filat dimension.

  • Configure "best practise baseline" manually

    Dear experts!
    I'm studying SAP ERP as a student. I am interesting in SD. I have read the certification material TSCM and SCM.
    Now I am waiting for your advice whether I need to configure "best practise baseline" manually.
    We see, it will take a lot of time to configure "best practise baseline" manually.
    However, I was thinking that it would be helpfull to my general view on ERP, as well as, I can use it to study "best practise industry" when I complete it.
    How do you think?
    Waiting for your advice!
    Thank you!
    Best regard!
    Tang Dark

    Hi,
    Best Practises is a specific SAP solution and to get it you have to specifically buy it - it doesn't come standard with every ERP solution.
    What is Best Practises? Best Practises is basically a set of pre configured stuff (BC sets) which you upload into SAP, hence reducing your configuration.
    Baseline is basically the general configuration (per module) that a company requires to carry on with config. Things like org structure, etc.
    On top of the baseline you can then start loading other more specific BC sets per module.
    Best Practises is a methodology to address smaller companies because it reduces the blueprint and configuration phases. Projects can be finalised within 6 months compared to std ERP implementations that may take 1 to 2 years.
    If you want to be a proper SD consultant do not study Best Practises only. Do your SAP academy. Best Practises you can learn after you know SAP.
    As to Industries specific, these are add-ons to address specific industry requirements. For example, bills of services, is something used in project environments such as engineering & construction. So the funcitonality is not necessary, for example, the retail industry which sells only finished products.
    Again, firs learn your SAP and then you can focus on learning others. If you learn SAP you can work on any Best Practices package or any Industry, If you study Best PRactises you can only work with BP, and the same goes for industry solutions.

  • Error "No maintenance cycle is open for the current system"

    Hi,
    I'm setting up the ChaRM for test purposes.
    I have done everything according to SAP Expert Guided session requirements (like Basic configuration, Landscape and TSMS set-up) and also was reading and checking the following Blog " Change Request Management scenario: Working examples"
    /people/dolores.correa/blog/2009/07/23/change-request-management-scenario-working-examples
    Everything seems to be ok:
    1) Landscape ok, IBase created and active, Partners assigned to each component
    2) Maintenance project created and Maintenance cycle set to "Development with release"
    3) I can easily create Change request (I tried Normal correction), approve it.
    4) When I open Change Document for approved change reques - it gives error "No maintenance cycle is open for the current system" and I can't proceed with setting Change document status to "In development".
    In Change Request I indicate the only IBase (1) and as Component - SolMan clent 803, whish is set-up like PRD.
    What could be wrong?
    I tried reading all threads but did not get solution - there were suggestions to activate maintenance cycle (in my case it active), to check if business partners are assigned to IBase components (in my case done),
    What else?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Best practises for replication

    Hi,
    I want to know what is best practise for duration of replicaation of database between two Cisco ACS.
    Regards,
    Atif.

    Hi Atif,
    The replication time interval should always be higher.
    Reason: Everytime you replicate the data it requires ACS services to restart so doing this frequently may affect your production enviroment.
    However, if you want to replicate internal user's password then there is an option to replicate password changes right awayvwithout a full replication.  You can enable this option under System Configuration -> Local Password Management.  With this enabled you could potentially set the replications to a larger interval.
    It also depend how often you do changes in your ACS. If its normal then I would say set it to every sunday 12:00 PM.
    This is how replication happens:
    The primary ACS stops its authentication and creates a copy of the ACSinternal database components that it is configured to replicate. During this
    step, if AAA clients are configured properly, those that usually use the primary ACS fail over to another ACS. The primary ACS resumes its authentication service.
    After the preceding events on the primary ACS, the database replication process continues on the secondary ACS. The secondary ACS stops its authentication service and replaces its database components with the database components that it received from the primary ACS. During this step, if AAA clients are configured properly, those that usually use the secondary ACS fail over to another ACS. The secondary ACS resumes its authentication service.

  • Best Practices for FSCM Multiple systems scenario

    Hi guys,
    We have a scenario to implement FSCM credit, collections and dispute management solution for our landscape comprising the following:
    a 4.6c system
    a 4.7 system
    an ECC 5 system
    2 ECC6 systems
    I have documented my design, but would like to double check and rob minds with colleagues regarding the following areas/questions.
    Business partner replication and synchronization: what is the best practice for the initial replication of customers in each of the different systems to business partners in the FSCM system? (a) for the initial creation, and (b) for on-going synchronization of new customers and changes to existing customers?
    Credit Management: what is the best practice for update of exposures from SD and FI-AR from each of the different systems? Should this be real-time for each transaction from SD and AR  (synchronous) or periodic, say once a day? (assuming we can control this in the BADI)
    Is there any particular point to note in dispute management?
    Any other general note regarding this scenario?
    Thanks in advance. Comments appreciated.

    Hi,
    I guess when you've the informations that the SAP can read and take some action, has to be asynchronous (from non-SAP to FSCM);
    But when the credit analysis is done by non-SAP and like an 'Experian', SAP send the informations with invoices paid and not paid and this non-SAP group give a rate for this customer. All banks and big companies in the world does the same. And for this, you've the synchronous interface. This interface will updated the FSCM-CR (Credit), blocking or not the vendor, decreasing or increasing them limit amount to buy.
    So, for these 1.000 sales orders, you'll have to think with PI in how to create an interface for this volume? What parameters SAP does has to check? There's an time interval to receive and send back? Will be a synchronous or asynchronous?
    Contact your PI to help think in this information exchange.
    Am I clear in your question?

  • Best Practise for connecting to Ethernet based device

    Hi,
    I have inherited a system where we have a cDAQ-9181 controlling an vehicle access barrier, with a LabView application on  a PC talking to it via Ethernet.
    (The application is very simple - press a button > send a value to the 9181 unit > opens the barrier )
    All works fine most of the time.
    ( We occasionally get network related errors. The LabView application sometimes thinks another PC has reserved the unit, or gives “error 89130 - device not available for routing” )
    The users would now like to be able to easily run the application from a second PC ( not at the same time ), but this seems to be a problem. If I exit the application on PC “A” and run it on PC “B” it struggles to reserve the chassis, and throws the “89130” error and I have to restart the unit via MAC.
    While I’m a “veteran” control programmer, I’m new to LabView, and would be very grateful for any pointers on “best practise” for talking to devices via Ethernet, or any specific suggestions for handling multiple PCs talking to a single device.
    Thank You.
    Tim.

    Hi Tim,
    Thank you for your post and welcome to the NI forums.
    There are lots of knowledgebase articles on our website and you should be able to find documentation for most of our hardware.
    There is a good troubleshooting guide for cDAQ Ethernet here (http://ae.natinst.com/public.nsf/web/searchinternal/e67b4e4749f378ff862577270059bd4b?OpenDocument) - it outlines the steps to take to ensure you have a stable a connection as possible. You may have already seen it, but the quick-start guide for your specific device may also be worth consulting for best practices. Are these helpful?
    As for using more than one PC - this shouldn't be too much of an issue. I would expect that the resource isn't being closed correctly - when you exit the App on PC 'A', how are you closing off the resource?

  • Best Practise for rebooting ISE Nodes?

    Hello Community,
    I administer an ISE installation with two nodes (I am not an ISE Specialist, my job is just to manage the user/mac-adresses... but now I have to move my ISE Nodes from one VMWare Cluster to another VMWare Cluster.
    (Both VMWare environments are connected to our enterprise network, but are different environments. vMotion not possible)
    I would shutdown ISE02, move it to our new VMWare environment and start it again.
    Than I would do this with our ISE01 Node...
    Are there any best practises for doing this? (Shutdown application first, stopl replikation etc)?
    Can I really simply reboot an ISE Node - or have I consider something bevor I doing this? After I doing this?
    Any tasks after reboot?
    Thank you for any answer!
    ISE01
    Administration, Monitoring, Policy Service
    PRI(A), SEC(M)
    ISE02
    Administration, Monitoring, Policy Service
    SEC(A), PRI(M)

    There is a lot to consider here.  If changing environments means changing IP Address and IP Scopes, then your policies, profiles, and dACLs would also have to change among other things.  If this is the case, create a new ISE VM in the new environment using the built in evaluation license and recreate the deployment from the old environment using the addressing scheme of the new environment.  Then spin-up a new Secondary node and register it on the Primary.  Once this is done, you can re-host the license from your old environment onto your new environment.  You can use this tool to re-host:
    https://tools.cisco.com/SWIFT/LicensingUI/loadDemoLicensee?FormId=3999
    If IP Addressing is to remain the same, it gets simpler.
    First, and always, perform a configuration and operational backup.
    If downtime is not an issue, or if you have a maintenance window of an hour or so: Simply shut down both nodes.  Transfer them to the New Environment and turn them on, Primary Node first, of course.
    If downtime is an issue, shut down the Secondary Node and transfer it to the New Environment.  Start the Secondary Node and when it is up, shut down the Primary Node.  Once services on the primary node have stopped, promote the Secondary Node to Primary Node.
    Transfer the OLD Primary Node to the New Environment and turn it on.  It should assume the role of Secondary Node.  If it does not, assign that role through the GUI.
    Remember, the correct way to shut down an ISE node is:
    application stop ise
    halt
    By using these commands, the risk of database corruption decreases by about 90% (Remember to always backup).

  • Best practice for the test environment  &  DBA plan Activities    Documents

    Dears,,
    In our company, we made sizing for hardware.
    we have Three environments ( Test/Development , Training , Production ).
    But, the test environment servers less than Production environment servers.
    My question is:
    How to make the best practice for the test environment?
    ( Is there any recommendations from Oracle related to this , any PDF files help me ............ )
    Also please , Can I have a detail document regarding the DBA plan activities?
    I appreciate your help and advise
    Thanks

    Follow your build document for the same steps you used to build production.
    You should know where all your code is. You can use the deployment manager to export your configurations. Export customized files from MDS. Just follow the process again, and you will have a clean instance not containing production data.
    It only takes a lot of time if your client is lacking documentation or if you re not familiar with all the parts of the environment. What's 2-3 hours compared to all the issues you will run into if you copy databases or import/export schemas?

  • No maintenance cycle is open for the current system

    Hello!
    I have problems to use CharM functionality due to following error:
    <b>No maintenance cycle is open for the current system</b>
    The error arises when I try to set a urgent correction in status "In Development" I get the following error, menwhile I have an valid maintenance cycle active.
    I use CharM functionality for the solution consisting of an single system with two clients:
    SRM:000 (as DEV-system) (system role: source system)
    SRM:100 (as PRD-system) (system role: target system)
    - No maintenance cycle is open for the current system (meanwhile I have a valid maintenance cycle created and activated).
    Futhermore I get the additional warning:
    IBase component is not a productive system in system lanscape
    Can some help me with this issue?
    Thank you very much!
    regards
    Thom

    Hello Kriti,
    thank you very much for your response.
    Unfortunately I also thought about it.
    Basically my CharM procedure looks as follows.
    I send the message from productive client (I have only one system with client 000 and 100)  to Service Desk in SOLMAN.
    There I can see the IBase of the productive client.
    Then I create a urgent correction by assigning IBase to this IBase of productive client. It is also possible to change the IBase in change mode, so I have tried all the possible values of IBase and get the same error.
    My problem also is that I have multiple values of IBase assigmenets, it means one system has multiple assigments to IBase components.
    I do not know how to delete/cut these settings....
    Thank you for your further help!
    regards
    Thom
