Install Multiple Instance of sql server

Hi guys,
I have one question. How can i install multiple instance in sql server ( I am using 180 days VHD to access sql server r2 standard edition). I am accessing sql server through Hyper-V Manager. Can anyone guide me please.
Regards,
Jagan

Hello Jagan,
For each instance you have to run the SQL Server installer and assign a unique instance Name during Installation; for each instance the Installation procedure is the same.

  • Install multiple version of SQL Server on a same machine, both with default instance?

We have an almost idle server (windows server 2008 R2) with SQL Server 2008 Enterprise with default instance. We would like to port all the data, install SQL Server 2012 developer edition and use it as testing server. Is that possible we still choose default
instance name on 2012 developer version? Do we have to shutdown or uninstall the 08 Enterprise? If we keep both versions running, does SQL server 2012 have to choose a named instance?  Any suggestion would be appreciated.

  • Restrictions on Installing SSMS and SSDT (SQL Server 2012) on multiple clients

Our company has a license for SQL Server 2012 (either Standard or Enterprise, I'm not sure which).  We need to set up several client machines to manage the server and want to install SSMS on those machines.  In addition, a couple users need
to be able to edit SSIS packages using SSDT.
My question.  Using the SQL Server 2012 license we own, are we free to install SSMS, Books Online, and SSDT on any computer in our company, without any additional cost?  We won't be installing any other SQL Server component on those machines.
If someone can post a link to the Microsoft web site that verifies that, I would appreciate it.

    Hi,
According ‘Licensing SQL Server 2012 Components’ section in Microsoft
    SQL
    Server 2012 Licensing Guide:
Management tools and other software identified as additional or supplemental software—such as product documentation, client connectivity tools, software add-ins, and SDKs—can generally be distributed and run on any number of devices for use with a licensed
instance of SQL Server software. Refer to the Volume Licensing PUR for a list of additional software components provided with SQL Server 2012.
    Hope the information helps.

  • WIll multiple instances on same server use same SA by default?

I have a SQL server on which I've created a second instance using Windows authentication. I never created an SA account or password during installation of the new second instance.
In Security > Logins, I see SA. Is this the same account as the one in the other instance. I don't know the other instance's password, so if I change it in the new instance will it be changed in the previously existing instance as well?
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Hi,
SA account will be created as a part of the SQL install and we don't get to specify a passowrd while installation when windows authentication is chosen. This is the reason why the SA is disabled if you check in the mgmt studio after SQL installation. Try
logging in using the admin account that you have provided for the SQL server instance during the Sql install, This will allow you to enable the SA account and you can change the password.
This won't let you to login using SA acount unless you have changed you authenticaion mode to  MIXED @ Security tab on Server properties. Restart of the instance is required to bring this change into effect. Now you can login using SQL authentication
specifying the SA account and password.
No SA accounts on different instances of SQL server are same. They are unique per instance and changing the password on one SA account for an instance doesn't have any affect on the others.
    Hope this helps,
    Many Thanks

    Hi,
You only have to consider 2 things :
    1. SAPTRANSHOST entry in hosts file will be the same for both systems
this mean that both systems will share the same transport directory
    Regards,
    Wojtek
This is not true.  Your SAPTRANSHOST will remain the same, but you can (and should) specify independent trans directories with the DIR_TRANS and and EPS profile parameters to designate where the instance trans files should be located (i.e. /usr/sap/trans_SID).  I recommend you make this change in the existing host first, and then clear out the trans directory.  Let the 2nd instance install into it and then alter that one too (thereby moving the files to the new /usr/sap/trans_SID2).

  • How to install and configure the SQL Server

    Hi All,
We have to install SQL server in the new server because the old server is crash and need to upgrade. Please advice How to install and configure the SQL Server to run SAP Business One 8.8 successfully and what part we do have to give attention.
    Kind Rgds,
    Steve

    Hi,
    Try this solution:
The step-by-step installation guide can be found in the documentation included in the installation media. (\Documentation\SystemSetup\AdministratorGuide_SQL.pdf).
Below are some important parts that you should pay attention to during the Installation process.
    Resolution
Collation setting: It must be set as SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS,even the company DB is non-english location. The company DB will be created as corresponding collation settings automatically.
Instance and TCP Port : It is recommended to run SBO on default instance and TCP port 1433. Otherwise, some optional components such as B1i may not work properly.
Native Client: SQL Server Native Client should be installed on every client machine to enable the ODBC connection to DB server.
    Rgds,

  • Problem with a JDBC Adapter when connect to Instance on SQL Server

    Hi,
Currently I'm setting up a communication channel with the JDBC adapter to work on a SQL Server database. When I use a string without specifying the connection instance, the JDBC driver takes the default instance and connects to a database without problems.
    jdbc: sqlserver: / / Server01; databaseName = IntegraSAP1
The problem is when I need to connect to another instance of it server.
    jdbc: sqlserver: / / Server01; instanceName = SAP; databaseName = IntegraSAP2
The JDBC driver, in short, send me the following error:
    Cause Exception: 'Error when attempting
    to get processing resources: com.sap.aii.af.lib.util.concurrent.ResourcePoolException:
Unable to create new pooled resource: DriverManagerException:
    Can not establish connection:: com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException:
The connection to the named instance  has failed. Error:
    java.net.UnknownHostException: .
    I appreciate your help,
    Regards,
    Johnny

Not sure, might be port number is not required in case using instance. Give one more try with :
    jdbc:sqlserver:/ /Server01\SAP; databaseName = IntegraSAP2
    A comment from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms378428.aspx
"SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 allow for the installation of multiple database instances per server. Each instance is identified by a specific name. To connect to a named instance of SQL Server, you can either specify the port number of the named instance (preferred), or you can specify the instance name as a JDBC URL property or a datasource property."

  • Can CPS be installed multiple times on same server

We have implemented CPS in our environment but want to know
if CPS and can be installed multiple times the same server. We are
using Contribute 3 as the client but our users don't know if they
want to share administration for both Intranet and Public site
development. So we have to see what are real options are.
Thanks for any respones in advance.

When you say share administration are you referring to user
administration? There's no reason to need more than one instance
unless you are allowing them to independently manage their
    users.

  • Cannot uninstall instance of SQL Server 2014

    Hello,
I have two instances of SQL Server 2014 installed and i want to uninstall them (and install SQL Server 2012 evaluation). I managed to uninstall the one instance. When i try to uninstall the second a message informs me that the operating system does not meet
the minimum requirements. I had the same proble when uninstalling SQL Server 2012 and i went to the setup file and changed the compatibility mode to Windows Vista. Is there something similar that i should do in the case of SQL Server 2014 or i should do something
    totally different?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi,
Personally I have not faced this situation but this seems bug below Connect Item MS closed as not reproducable
    https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/707706/unable-to-uninstall-sql-server-2012-rc0-from-control-panel
Below connect Item deals with same issue as your
    https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/974626/cannot-uninstall-sql-express-2014-on-windows-7-sp1
Workaround should be instaed of uninstalling using GUI please use command prompt
Launch setup.exe from an elevated command shell. Change to the directory "c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\120\Setup Bootstrap\SQLServer2014", then type:
    Setup.exe /action=uninstall
Please change uninstall script as per need
Normal uninstall Script would look like
    Setup.exe /Action=Uninstall /FEATURES=SQL,AS,RS,IS,Tools /INSTANCENAME=InstanceName
    Please refer to

  • Cannot Connect to Remote Named Instance of SQL Server

We have 3x instances of SQL Server 2012 installed on a single remote server - there's the default MSSQLSERVER instance, then \INSTANCE01 and \INSTANCE02. I can remotely connect to the default MSSQLSERVER instance through SSMS, but I cannot connect to
either of the additional named instances (\INSTANCE01 or \INSTANCE02).
For example, if I try to connect to "sql.domain.com", I can successfully access the default instance on the remote server. If I try to connect to "sql.domain.com\INSTANCE01", I get an error stating
"A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server".
HOWEVER - if I try to connect to "sql.domain.com\INSTANCE01, 49301" (where 49301 is the TCP Port for the TCP/IP Protocol for this SQL Server instance), I am able to successfully connect.
This leads me to think that there's a communication issue with the SQL Server Browser service running on the remote SQL Server and my workstation.
The following items have been verified:
SQL Server Browser is running on the remote SQL Server
Windows Firewall has been disabled on the SQL Server
TCP Ports 1433, 1434, 1954, and 49301 have been opened up on the remote destination's firewall
UDP Port 1434 has been opened up on the remote destination's firewall
    Thoughts? Did I miss something?

    Hi brgnewman,
Use computername\instancename to connect to the database engine. Please try again. I think the configuration is OK.
Refer to Connecting from Another Computer:

    Hi,
Following solution might help you to resolve the issue.
    Solution1:
Issue happens because universe connection to the Database is not responding and the Data Source Name is not configured to write SQL Server 2005 database.
    Resolution
Created new DSN connection under SYSTEM DSN to SQL Server 2005 Database.
Import the universe from the designer.
    Go to File->Parameters.
    Edit Connection.
On the Database Middleware Page expand SQl Server 2005->Select SQL Server 2005 driver.
Change the DSN to new DSN connection
    Test the connection.
Save the Universe and Export it to the repository.
    Solution2:
I am taking Oracle as an example over here.
This can be caused when the SQLNET.ora is located in a remote location using mapped drives.
    Resolution
    To resolve,
check the registry [HKLM\SOFTWARE\ORACLE] you should see a folder called HOME0
look for any paths that contain a mapped drive partition
Change the mapped drive letter to a UNC path (
    server\folder)
Open a command prompt and do a tnsping using the tnsname and verify the location of the SQLNET.ora or TNSNAMES.ora
If the path is not updated to the new path
    Reboot the server
