Issue using SharePoint 2010 with IE10 with MS Office Excel Viewer

Hello,
We are experiencing an issue with MS SharePoint 2010 Foundation and computers who have Internet Explorer 10 and the Microsoft Office Word Viewer 2003.  When opening Word documents from SharePoint, the Word Viewer opens, but no document is displayed.
 The MS Excel Viewer 2007 works and does open the Excel documents.
Computers with MS Word Viewer 2003 and IE 9 works fine, it's just the IE10 PCs.  PCs that have the full version of Office it works fine with both IE9 and IE10.
We have a segment of our PCs that need only read-only access to the Word and Excel files.  We tried Office Web App but found functionality issues (printing, etc.) and issues where the other segment of our PCs that have MS Office had to open the files
in a specific way to manipulate them.
Does anyone know of something that would be affecting the MS Word Viewer with IE10 with SharePoint?  Or know of an alternate viewer?
Thanks in advance.

Hello Anthony,
In IE10, please click F12 to open the DEV toolbar.
Now search for Browser- and Document Mode.
Set Browser Mode to Internet Explorer 8, that should work.
This setting can be edited in your Masterpage.
This is what you should put in:
<meta
http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=8" />

    Take a look at Metalogix ControlPoint, which will compare user accounts on SharePoint to Active Directory and remove accounts that no longer exist in AD (or are disabled).

    HOw  prepare sharepoint 2010 with sp2 environment how i  install sharepoint 2010 with sp2 in a windows server 2012
    i mean
    from scratch  i just prepared a windows server 2012 R2 vm
    and i set all required  roels (Appserver,webserver etc) according to this link
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/12502.how-to-install-and-configure-windows-server-2012-for-sharepoint-2010.aspx
    and i have sharepoint 2010 set up, and i downloaded sharepoint 2010 sp2
    from this link
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39672
    now should i install sp2 and install sharepoint 2010 binaries?
    adil

    SharePoint 2010 has no supportability statement for Server 2012 R2.  I would not use it until Microsoft releases a supportability statement.
    Even it  has no supportability for server 2012, but sharepoint 2010 running fine in my server 2012 test environment
    adil
    You indicated you were using 2012 R2.  SharePoint 2010 supports Server 2012 (non-R2) with SP2 media, but has no supportability statement for Server 2012 R2.

  • Issues between SharePoint 2010 == Acrobat X Pro and autosave

    Hey all,
    Seeing two issues with Acrobat X Pro in an enterprise environment that also uses SharePoint 2010 heavily.
    #1
    Crashing Acrobat X Pro not autosaving correctly when dealing with partially remote user profiles. These are user profiles that are local (not roaming profiles), but are forced via registry to consider the Documents location to be a network location (accessible via CIFS). I noticed when helping a user that has lost work that the temporary autosave files are still local, and there did not seem to be a recovered document via Acrobat for this SharePoint-loaded PDF file. The user had this file checked out and had done a few hours of work when the crash happened. Any recommendation on:
    - reporting this to an Acrobat engineer, particularly the team working with SharePoint integration via the dll Acrobat uses to accomplish that
    - settings to tweak to ENSURE that crashes will leave recoverable autosaves when working in Acrobat directly on SharePoint 2010 PDF files
    #2
    The following error is produced in Acrobat when trying to click version history documents in SharePoint 2010. "The URL you have provided could not be reached. Please verify that the URL is correct and that the network location is reachable." The revision of the document is reachable, but through typical HTTP via a web browser...but not through the SharePoint <==> Acrobat X Pro COM object magic that works fine for currently checked out documents. Please see inserted image. Thoughts on a fix?

    update for anyone interested--
    #1, broken autosave functionality for acrobat documents controlled by SharePoint (i.e. checked out from SharePoint and then worked on), I have duplicated this for Adobe. They have confirmed this is a bug, and have assigned it bug number 3328962. This bug means that your autosaving settings for Acrobat documents in SharePoint will not do anything-- so crashes of Acrobat, your computer, etc. while you are working on an Adobe Acrobat document you checked out from SharePoint will leave you in the state of your last manual save (with the SharePoint server).

  • How to design SSRS report using SharePoint 2010 List Version History

  • Building a portal using SharePoint 2010

    Hi,
    We are trying to build a portal using SharePoint 2010.
    The pimary requirement for the portal is to allow users to upload, view and manage different types of documents (xls, doc, ppt, vsd).
    The uploaded documents need to be mapped to the different categories as per their classification.
    For example, the documents fall into 5 main categories: A, B, C, D, E. These categories are further divided into sub-categories and so on for two more levels.
    Example, Main categories: A, B, C, D, E
    Sub categories for A: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and so on
    So, if one clicks on node A and then click on node 4, then all related documents will be displayed. (A.4)
    From the front end point of view, the user should be able to access these documents by just clicking on the nodes representing different categories.
    There are some more functionalities to be built for this portal - search, versioning, etc.
    Can someone please provide me the (high level steps) approach for building this portal and some reference material from features/architecture/technical requirements point of view?
    This would of great help!
    Thanks!

    Sure. Most of what you're describing is around the topic of document storage.
    As you may be aware the object documents are stored in within SharePoint is a document library. You can have sub folders within that library but they're to be avoided if possible and shouldn't be a default choice.
    To classify your documents there is several routes you can take. The least complicated is to use a single Content Type with a single Managed Metadata Column. This column would use a Mananged Metadata Term taken from a term set with the structure of A (1,2,3,4,5),B(x,y,z),etc..
    That will allow your users to tag the document on upload (or modify it later) with a term such as A:1 or B:52.
    To browse only the relevant items you can use the Managed Navigation tools in the document library, this allows you to show a term set and filter to various levels, for example all A terms, (ie A:1, A:2 etc.) or drill down to A:1 specifically.

    I can see my folders by clicking the X next to my name on the Inbox Folder.  So I have my folders now, just cannot see them in the left colum or see multiple windows on Outlook.  At this point, I can use the folders, just with limited functionality.  Thanks -Gina

  • SharePoint 2010 with LDAP authentication, using NOVELL eDirectory

    One of my customers needs a SharePoint application that allows people to authenticate with either an Active Directory account (internal staff) or a Novell eDirectory account (external customers).
    Using the following article as a base guide (http://blogs.technet.com/b/speschka/archive/2009/11/05/configuring-forms-based-authentication-in-sharepoint-2010.aspx)

    With all of this configured, I can go to the new test site, I do see the form where I can choose either Windows authentication or Forms authentication. I can successfully login with Windows authentication, but forms authentication gives me me an error.
    The server could not sign you in. Make sure your user name and password are correct, and then try again.
    I can successfully login to a LDAP management tool, using the same credentials I entered on the form, so I know the username and password being submitted are correct. I get the following items in the event viewer
    8306 - SharePoint Foundation - The security token username and password could not be validated.
    in the SharePoint trace logs - Password check on 'testuser' generated exception: 'System.ServiceModel.FaultException`1[Microsoft.IdentityModel.Tokens.FailedAuthenticationException]: The security token username and password could not be validated. and

    I monitored the LDAP server and did a packet-trace on the communication happening between the SharePoint server and the LDAP server and it is a bit odd. It goes like this:
    The SharePoint server successfully connects to the LDAP server, binding the ldapserviceid+password
    The LDAP server tells the SharePoint server it is ready to communicate
    the SharePoint server sends an LDAP query to the LDAP server, asking if the name entered in the form authentication page can be found.
    The LDAP server does the query, successfully finds the entered name and sends a success message back to SharePoint
    The LDAP server sends notification that it is done and is closing the connection that was bound to theldapserviceid+password
    The SharePoint server acknowledges the connection is closing
    ... and then nothing happens, except the error on SharePoint
    What I understand is that the SharePoint server, once it gets confirmation that the submitted username exists in LDAP, should attempt to make a new LDAP connection, bound to the username and password submitted in the form (rather than the LDAP service account
    specified in the web.config). That part does not seem to be happening.
    I am at a standstill on this and any help would be greatly appreciated.

    OK, our problem was resolved by removing any information about the ASP.NET role manager. Initially, we had information about a role manager defined in three different web.config files, as well as in the SharePoint Central Administration site, where there
    is the checkbox to Enable Forms Based Authentication (you see this when you first create the new SharePoint app, or afterwards by modifying the Authentication Provider for the app.) In either case, you will see two text boxes, underneath the checkbox item
    for enabling Forms Based Authentication:
    "ASP.NET Membership provider name"
    "ASP.NET Role manager name"
    We entered a name for Membership provider, and left Role manager blank.
    In the web.config for the SharePoint Central Administration site, the SecurityTokenServiceApplication app, and the web app we created with FBA enabled, we entered the following:
    <membership>
    <providers>
    <add name="LdapMember"
    type="Microsoft.Office.Server.Security.LdapMembershipProvider, Microsoft.Office.Server, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c"
    server="ldap.server.address"
    port="389"
    useSSL="false"
    connectionUsername="cn=ldapserviceid,ou=sharepoint,ou=test,ou=location,o=validobject"
    connectionPassword="validpassword"
    useDNAttribute="false"
    userDNAttribute="dn"
    userNameAttribute="cn"
    userContainer="OU=people,O=validobject"
    userObjectClass="person"
    userFilter="(ObjectClass=person)"
    scope="Subtree"
    otherRequiredUserAttributes="sn,givenname,cn" />
    </providers>
    </membership>
    <roleManager>
    <providers>
    </providers>
    </roleManager>
    useDNAttribute="false" turned out to be important as well.
    So, for us to get LDAP authentication working between SharePoint 2010 and Novel eDirectory, we had to:
    leave anything related to the role provider blank
    configure the web.config in three different applications, with the proper connection information to reach our Novel eDir
    Ensure that useDNAttribute="false" was used in all three on the modified web.config files.
    Since our eDir is flat and used pretty much exclusively for external users, we had never done any sort of advanced role management configuration in eDir. So, by having role manager details in the web.config files, SharePoint was waiting for information from
    a non-existent role manager.

  • SharePoint 2010 with OAM 11g

    We are currently trying to integrate SharePoint 2010 server with OAM 11g with 10g webgate. In our environment SharePoint site is configured with Claims based authentication with LDAP provider for membership. We have performed all the configurations based on the Oracle documentation with validation mode as OAMHttp.
    We are seeing the following behavior after this integration.
    1)     The user requests access to an SharePoint Site
    2)     Webgate protecting the site intercepts the request, determines if the resource is protected, and challenges the user.
    3)     The user enters their OAM credentials; Webgate contacts the OAM Server, which verifies the credentials from user store and authenticates the user. Webgate generates the OAM native SSO cookie (ObSSOCookie), which enables single sign-on and sets the User ID (to username) header variable in the HTTP request and redirects the user to SharePoint site.
    Here, instead of taking user to the home page of the site, the SharePoint login page is displayed again.

    If anyone have integrated OAM 11g with SharePoint 2010 earlier, appreciate your inputs in this regard.

    Each license is platform specific, you can't backwards apply or forwards apply licenses from one version of SharePoint to another.
    If you do have MSDN access, you'll have access to all current versions of SharePoint, across the current and retired server products.

  • Using Sharepoint 2013 with SSRS native mode !

    Hi there !
    We have 2 servers A & B. A is Sharepoint server and on B we have installed SSRS in native mode. Server C is database. We are not looking to use SharePoint Integration mode but We are planning to use native mode only !
    We are looking for a way to make A & B talk as how a report hosted on B will show up on A since its not in integrated mode?
    Can you please let us know of the proper steps to deploy this?
    Thanks in Advance !

    the "integration" between SP and SSRS native mode is basically an IFrame.
    you should be able to find the RS native mode integration solution file (which is just two webparts, the report manager web part, and report viewer web part) somewhere on the SQL server / media... should still work with SP2013.
    Keep in mind that SharePoint's authentication will be COMPLETELY INDEPENDENT AND UNUSED when accessing the reports... an iFrame is just another web request made by the browser.

  • Issue using logic pro with bfd 2.0 - not enough RAM?

    Right, I posted a little while ago when I first installed BFD 2 on my mac pro, and was having problems whenever I tried to use any effects (either in Logic itself or in the BFD 2 program) whilst using BFD 2. What I think I forgot to mention was I was trying to do different processing on different "areas" of the drum kit, and I wanted to use the Logic effects, so I had a number of tracks with BFD 2 loaded as the instrument.
    Well, I phoned a local Apple-certified shop to ask for advice on this, as nothing I'd tried had fixed the issue. The guy suggested I try a clean install of the OS and Logic and BFD 2, to see if that fixed the issue. I* have done this, and logic now works with BFD 2 and effects when I have just one BFD 2 tracks, but as soon as I add another and program some MIDI notes into the 2nd instance, even just a bar or two, then play the whole song, there is a large amount of digital noise. Now, on my mac pro, i only have one HDD - the system disk - and 4 gb ram. I had just now come to the conclusion that, with the minimum spec for Logic being 1GB, and for BFD 2 being 1GB, with the OS running as well it's actually likely the system is short of RAM. But now I see that it can also be an issue if your Logic project is stored on your system disk.
    So I'm thinking of getting both an extra, internal (SATA) HDD, and an extra 8GB RAM at least. Is this likely to solve the issue? I'm not currently using an interface with it, and as I say, with just one BFD 2 track, it's fine, the issue is caused when I try to add more BFD 2 tracks. Obviously, without an interface, I am unable to try recording audio to see if there is an issue with that too.

    You also need to upgrade to the latest version of BFD2. There were many fixes. You should also install BFD2 samples on another hard drive. The 4 gigs of memory you have is more than enough. Your main problem is probably not installing the samples of a separate drive. Hope this helps. BFD2 is an incredible program once you have it set up properly. As noted previously switching from 24 bit to 16 bits will help also.

  • Problems opening PDFs from SharePoint 2010 with Acrobat X Pro

    Is anyone else having problems integrating pdf document support into Sharepoint 2010?
    I now have the icon showing for any pdf documents saved in a Document Lirary, However I don't get the options of Checking out - editing an checking in. There is also no revision control. I think that when I open a pdf document, the servers own copy of Adobe Reader opens, and not my local copy of Reader or Acrobat X pro.
    I've done what it says in the Administrators guide for Sharepoint integration and I'm still unable to get this functionality to work. As we use interactivve pdfs for a lot of our internal documentation the pdf integration features are very important.
    Any help from users who have already been through the pain of sharepoint integration would be really appreciated.
    Regards.

    Hi Bill,
    Looking at your initial problem of not being able to open the SharePoint hosted PDF document from the web browser.
    Could you please verify that as per the "Enterprise Administration Guide", the DocIcon.xml file of your server contains the following line:
    <Mapping Key="pdf" Value="AdobePDF.png" OpenControl="AdobeAcrobat.OpenDocuments"/>
    Please verify that the OpenControl attribute is also mentioned correctly. Without this the Acrobat Active X component would not be invoked.
    thanks,
    Shivani
