Load Balancing & Fault tolerance in Oracle Apps

Hello
I am pretty new to Oracle Apps and Oracle 9iAS
We are trying to asked to find out the ways of deplying load balancing and fault tolerance in Oracle Apps
I have gone thru the following articles of metalink and some more from google
Configuring Web Cache as a Load Balancer for Application Servers
Create new middle tier node in existing Apps 11i environment using cloning and then load balance
Integrating and using Web Cache with Forms 9i for Load Balancing
Running Multiple OC4J Instances From a Single Install of 9iAS 1.0.2.2
LOAD BALANCING ORACLE APPLICATIONS ON UNIX
Load Balancing in 11i
OC4J Clustering Setup
OC4J Load Balancing for Forms 9i
Setting up 11i E-Business suite using a hardware load balancer
Sharing an APPL_TOP in Oracle Applications 11i
In Oracle Apps Concepts pdf, found that
Load balancing occurs when there are multiple installations of web server, forms server, reports server, concurrent manager server etc
Lets consider forms server component of middle tier
Can there be multiple INSTANCES of forms server within SINGLE INSTALLATION ???
If it has to be MULTIPLE INSTALLATIONS, then it will require multiple physical machines
What is software load balancing then ???
Also read that
Oracle 9i AS instance is combition of Oracle HTTP Server (OHS) and one or more instances of Oracle9iAS Container for J2EE (OC4J)
Thus software load balancing can be implemented for Web server component of middle tier using multiple instances of OC4J ???
Forms metrix server configuration is hardware load balancing ??
What about Oracle9iAS Web Cache clustering ??
Please clarify the doubts and suggest me the way
Thanks a lot

dear all can any one help me on the following;
We want to install Oracle Apps 11.5.9 on 4 IBM AIX 5L boxes, the first node
will hold the database , concurrent and Admin Tiers. as for the other 3 nodes
it will hold the Forms/Web Tiers and we need to use forms metrics for load
balancing taking into consideration that we can't use Shared APPL_TOP. we tried
to find the way how to install and configure this solution but all the
documents are talking aboout the concept only and this concept is applicable.
We need the exact steps on how do the installation either using rapidwiz or any
thing else

  • Load Balance & Fault Tolerance

I need do design a solution for load balance the DLSw traffic between 4 central routers and, if this 4 routers fail (oe wan fail) all peers and circuits need to be restablished on other site with other 4 routers.
To balance the traffic I will use the DLSw circuit count. To provide fault tolerance between sites I thinking to use backup peer.
My question is, "circuit count" will work togheter with "backup peer" ?
    Thank´s in advance.

Only one backup dlsw peer is allowed. I cut and paste the following when I try to define more than one backup peer:
    c3-2500(config)#dlsw remote-peer 0 tcp 2.2.2.2
    c3-2500(config)#dlsw remote-peer 0 tcp 3.3.3.3 backup-peer 2.2.2.2
    c3-2500(config)#dlsw remote-peer 0 tcp 4.4.4.4 backup-peer 2.2.2.2
%Primary peer already has backup defined
There are a number of approaches:
    1. Remote routers have 8 peer connections. The cost for A, B, C, and D are lower than that of E, F, G, and H. Normally, the circuits are distributed among A, B, C, and D. Even one or more than one of A, B, C, and D goes down, the rest will take the load. If all A, B, C, and D goes down, E, F, G, and H will take all the circuits.
    2. Slightly different than 1. Instead of making E, F, G, and H are permanent DLSw peer connection, make E is a backup peer for A, F is a backup peer for B, and so on.
    3. Just another idea. Have you considered SNASw using HPR/IP? It may take you a while to set up on the host. However, this is the way to go because IBM has stopped selling 3746/3745. All SNI link will eventually go to HPR/IP.

  • Query on Clustering,Load Balancing and Dehydration in Oracle BPEL PM

    Hi,
I had a Few queries on Dehydration ,Clustering and Load Balancing:
    1) In section 5.1 "Use Case for Asynchronous Web Services",insertion of a dehydration point is mentioned. What do you exactly mean by this. Can a dehydration point be inserted explicitly?OR we have to put a wait activity or something so that dehydration happens?
    2) If a dehydration point needs to be inserted explicity arent we assuming that the invoke-reply will take long? But this might not be the case always. Is is a lso possible that an asynchronous process is not a long running one.
    3) Can we configure administratively ,how much time the process (say 10 seconds or so)waits after which it gets dehydrated?
    4) Consider a load balancing scenario, where we have 2 BPEL PM's (PM1 and PM2) running on 2 different App Servers (SRV1 and SRV2)in an clustered environment.
    Scenario:
1)We have an asynchronous process which makes a call to a human task activity.
2)A request from client comes for this process.
    3) The load balancing server forwards it to PM1 on SRV1.PM1 processes the request and calls the human task.
    4) PM1 has not dehydrated the process.
    5) The response from the Human User comes back to the Load Balancer before the process is dehydrated by PM1.It forwards this response to PM2.PM2 searches for the Process based on the Cor-relation ID and does not find it.
Can you tell me how this scenario is handled?
I would be grateful if someone can answer these queries or direct me to some place where it is already explained.
    Thanks

Insert a java snippet with "checkpoint();"

No, this is due to the performance of your database.

  • How to load balance Agents across multiple Oracle Management Servers?

    Hi everyone
We have the 2 OMS servers in our OEM environment. We would like to set up our management agents to load balance over these 2 servers...Or if not load balance then at least set up the agents so they can access either/or OMS.
I've looked through the documentation and in google, but can't seem to find the answer.
Can someone point me towards the documentation please
    Thanks
    R

OMS is just an appserver with a repository. You can load balance the appservers with an F5. You can load balance the repository with RAC.
So ... your options for load balancing and resilience are :-
    1. one agent on each server, multiple OMS appservers load balanced, one RAC database (with dataguard standby)
    2. two agents per server, two appservers, two repositories.
Both architectures work. Option 1 offers the best load balancing and resilience.

  • Building fault tolerance into Oracle Reports

I have a report that I am working on in Developer 2000 that loads images from a filepath stored within my database. This works great but the report bombs out if the image does not actually exist or the filepath is wrong.
While the obvious solution is to make sure the files are present, it would be nice to trap an error message for this situation as it occured and to simply carry on as if nothing had happened.
Is this a possibility ?? ... I'm new to this and have a learned a lot quickly, if it where not for time constraints I'd be picking through the weak Oracle supplied documentation, with that in mind a good book recomendation would be wonderful

This seems to work for text files. It should work for bitmaps as well:
    1) create a function and set it to char, read from file
    2) add the code
    function cf_rowFormula return Char is
    in_file TEXT_IO.FILE_TYPE;
    file_nm varchar2(30) := 'c:\myfile.txt';
    begin
    in_file := TEXT_IO.FOPEN(file_nm, 'r');
    text_io.fclose (in_file);
    return file_nm;
    exception
    when others then
    text_io.fclose (in_file);
    return 'c:\empty.txt';
    end;
If the program doesn't find myfile, it will load empty. I'm not positive but it has to load something for it not to get an error. Hope this helps.

  • Oracle Web Cache - Load Balancer Mode

    Hello,
I am facing a problem related to fault tolerance in Oracle Web Cache
    My environment:
2 Nodes of Oracle Application Server 10.1.3 configured in cluster.
have configured Oracle Web Cache (in LoadBalancer mode only) to simulate a BigIP load balancing above these two oc4j node. This to be used as fault tolerance so if one http request will fail the LoadBalancer will direct it to the second oc4j (its http server).
I have used the defaults recommended by Oracle documentation for configuration clustering load balancer using Oracle Web Cache and using JSESSIONID for Session binding with oc4j-type. I left all other cluster/server setting to default
    Problem:
The problem is when I am shutting down one oc4j instance the Oracle Web Cache tries to keep the session with the un-available oc4j node and not direct the session to the other oc4j node.
If I choose to start a new session (loose current work) than it does work with the second (alive) oc4j node, but than where is its fault tolerance??
What do i need to do to keep working with the same session over the second oc4j node. My deployed Web App is enabled to work in cluster, using Oracle Application Server console. Here is its orion-application.xml

    Will appreciate any help !

is OHS/apache deployed between web cache and your OC4J? if so, i think since OHS/apache is alive to web cache, web cache keeps routing to it.
maybe in your script, you can shutdown both OHS/apache and OC4J totgether so web cache can correctly route.

  • Urgent: Load balance the shared services server

    Hello Experts,
One of my customer would like to know that is there a way to load balance the shared services server i.e., Register one essbase server with more than one Shared services server, so that if one shared services fails the other can authenticate the logins for the essbase server.
Also, referred the following weblink for 11x, Table 3. EPM System High Availability and Load Balancing Matrix
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12825_01/epm.111/epm_high_avail_11111/frameset.htm?ch01s04.html
Do we have any docs for version 9x?
    Environment:
    Essbase 9.3.1.3.00
OS : IBM AIX on POWER Systems (64-bit) 5.3
Any suggestions would be of great help. Thanks in advance.
    Regards,

I would not attempt any changes until 9.3.1 service fix #16 is released.
Oracle is back-porting clusterware support to with service fix # 16.
HSS 9.3.1sf 16 "active passive failover cluster with Oracle Clusterware 11g, for hss web app and openldap"
Based on the Oracle escalated support resources I have been in touch with solutions are not supported. Please realize this is not load-balancing and is fail-over support only.
To my knowledge there is not a "active-active" 9.3.1 Shared Services that is supported by Oracle.
You can read more about an active-passive fail-over at: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/bi/pdf/epm-hss-high-avail-windows-whitepaper.pdf
They are supposed to release a 9.3.1 white paper once service fix #16 is fully released and has been client tested.

  • Implementing Security For ADF Pages when integrated with Oracle APPS

    Hi,
Can anyone please let me know the solution to the below problem ?
I have an ADF application that is deployed on a weblogic server. An URL is generated to access the ADF Pages.
I have created one more simple jsp (Launch.jsp) which redirects to this URL on page load.
I am using Oracle APPS where:
->I registered a form function referring to Launch.jsp
->I am referring form function in a responsibility , attaching that to a menu
->When the valid oracle user logs in, I am sending all oracle apps environment variables (User id , Responsibility id, application id ) for that session
    What my issue is :
->The URL along with the parameters that I am sending from the Launch.jsp to the ADF Page is visible to the user. So, even if the Oracle APPS user has not logged in, anybody who knows the URL can access the ADF Pages.
->So, Is there any way to implement the security so as, even if anyone knows the URL of the ADF Page cannot access the ADF Pages without the valid user being logged-in through the Oracle APPS.
    I am using Jdeveloper 11g.
Please let me know if you need anymore details.
    Thanks in advance,
    Kavitha

Please help me out if anyone has a solution to this problem.

  • Demonstrate Load Balancing

    Hi All,
We are in the process of testing a new software load balancer on top of Oracle E Business Suite R12.1.3.
The configurations are done and from the load balancer software itself we can see the requests are forwarded to different application servers. (for testing the load balancing algorithm is set to round robin mode).
Is there are any way from the database I can show the count of connections from EBS that would get incremented with every new application session?
    Thanks and Regards,

You managed to award yourself the correct answer anyway

  • Logon load balancing issue

    Hello Experts,
We are having an issue with our load balancing.
We have 4 app servers ,2 for batch and 2 for dialog.
Dialog are used by SICF service for user to login. But the load is goign to the batch servers as well.Batch servers are running with different logon group and dialog( sicf) with another logon group.
The load is distributed by Webdispatcher to these servers.
Can you please provide some hint whe the load is going to another servers which are not meant to handle dialog requests.
    Regards
    Ajay Sandal

    Hi Ajay,
I suspect your dialog request would be distributing from web-dispatcher.
Web-dispatcher just performs its own function, it would not see if you have configured two as a dialog server and two for batch jobs.
In case WD sees available diag WPs, on any of these servers, it will distribute the request to available ones.
If you want to check the same, then deactivate batch job servers from WD.
For batch job load balancing, I would suggest you to use logon group for batch jobs.
To do the same call transaction SM61 -> Job-servergruppen -> create a logon group and assign batch servers.
In turn to distribute batch jobs, you would need to configure batch servers (created in SM61) while scheduling batch job.
Let me know if this helps, or your observation so that we could provide some more input on this issue.
    Cheers !!!

  • Load balancing OIF

I have two servers running two different OIF instances (http://oif1.domain.com:7777, http://oif2.domain.com:7777)
We have a F5 load balancing with url (https://f5oif.domain.com) balancing the above urls
How do I load balance these oif instances. They run both as idp and sp mode.
I tried changing the server name in each as F5 url but get error in oif restart. I changed the SP and IdP metadata but still the same error.
Is it possible to load balance OIF instances ? What special steps I have to do ? Do I have to reinstall OIF for enabling load balancing.
Can the SSL of F5 work with non SSL OIF instances ?
    Thanks for the help.

There is no need to choose a virtual hostname, as it is required for Cold Failover
Cluster in the advanced installation procedure.
    3. Choose the transient data store in the advanced installation procedure.
    4. Install all Oracle Identity Federation instances pointing to the same transient data
    store.
    5. In the F5 load balancer administration console, create a pool with all Oracle
Identity Federation instances, and enable the application persistence property for
this pool. Set the persistence type to Active HTTP Cookie, set the method to
insert, and the set expiration to the desired value.
    6. Create a virtual server member mapped to the newly created pool.
    7. Enable HTTP monitoring on all member nodes in the pool.
    8. On all Oracle Identity Federation servers instances, change the ServerName and
Port parameters in the httpd.conf file to the Virtual Server name and port.
    9. For all Oracle Identity Federation servers that are both load-balanced and
integrated with OracleAS Single Sign-On, register the load balancer URL (for
example, http://lbr.us.oracle.com:80) to all load-balanced Oracle
Identity Federation servers by running this command from the command prompt:
    <OIF_HOME>/sso/bin/ssoreg.bat -oracle_home_path %ORACLE_HOME% -site_name
    <Load_Balancer_Host_Name> -config_mod_osso TRUE -mod_osso_url
    <Load_Balancer_URL:Port>
    10. On all Oracle Identity Federation servers, update the configuration by running this
    command from the command prompt:
    dcmctl updateconfig
    11. Restart the HTTP server from the Oracle Enterprise Manager console on all the
    Oracle Identity Federation server instances.
    12. In the Oracle Identity Federation administration console, under Server
Configuration - > Server Properties, change the server hostname and port
number to the Virtual Server name and port number of the load balancer.
    13. Restart the Oracle Identity Federation instances from the Oracle Enterprise
    Manager console.
    14. Distribute the new metadata file to the peer providers.
