Make "File name" and "Files of type" fields read-only in JFileChooser

I try to make the "File name" and "Files of type" fields read-only in JFileChooser dialog. Anybody
knows how to do? Thanks.

You mean so the user can't choose the name of the file to open or save? Not much point in even using a JFileChooser, then, is there? Or did I misunderstand the question?

I created a Custom list New Form and need to make the text fields read only

When I use SharePoint Designer and add the read only attribute to the SharePoint form field, then it throws a web part error.
but here is the thing, I have current user Filters populating the Form Fields. So the form fields populate First name , last name etc. and I need these fields read-only....
the Client doesn t want the end user to Change those fields. Is there any way to "LOCK" the form fields?
As I have only 7 text fields that need to be locked down. and one field is a signature line that is a true input field.. where the user has to inter their initials.
Any ideas? as I have tried most of the items available thru searches nothing works, or it throws that web part error message.

I used SharePoint Designer.
Steps:
created a web part page
then on the SharePoint Designer ribbon I then went to insert:
new item form
Then I selected my data source (list)
then I placed the 8 columns on the page
a page viewer web part to pull the manual that people have to read.
and 7 current user filter webparts. (1 for each form field) Yes it is over kill, but I'm trying to keep this straight out of box as much as possible...
then for the form fields
I added a parameter and the read only tag see below in bold:

I also added the parameters in the ribbon area
the error message doesn't tell me much, it just send me to web part maintenance page...
if I removed the ReadOnly = True then the error goes away..... So I was trying to find a quick simple JQuery and or javascript code item that would make the 7 text fields readonly and leave the
8th text field alone to allow people to place their initials on the page to say that they read the manual.
I have created hundreds of these types of pages .. this is the first time I have run into this issue, but it also the first time I have tried to use the ReadOnly = True item.
Any Ideas and or thought on how to make the items read only? and not throw the error.

How to find the file by name and identify its type?

Hi,
In a folder thare are many files, the file types are doc, docx, pdf, and rtf. The file name is something like "FirstName LastName(more extrat letters).filetype".
Now I would like to find all the files with a certain name and identify their types. For example, by input "Bill Gates", I would get the list of all files :
Bill Gates.doc, Bill Gates-2010.pdf etc ...
Any good ideas are welcome.

For finding files whose names match a certain pattern, create a FileFilter or FilenameFilter that returns true when the name matches the pattern in question, and then call list() or listFiles() with that filter.
For identifying the "type", that depends what you mean. File's don't actually have a type. It's just that they're interpreted as such in some contexts. The simplest thing is to just look at the extension. You can be more sophisticated than that, but that gets complicated real fast. It depends what you're actually trying to accomplish.

AppleScript error on Tiger only: "can't make file into type alias"

I'm successfully using this smart TextWrangler applescript from this webpage for opening files on the same folder as the current document:

It works fine on Mountain Lion.
However, when I try it on Tiger 10.4.11, this error dialog appears: "TextWrangler got an error: Can't make [file] into type alias".
The script basically gets the path of the current document in TextWrangler and posts a file chooser on such path.
I guess these are the lines that Tiger doesn't like:
set current_path to POSIX path of current_file
set new_file to choose file default location (current_path) with multiple selections allowed
open new_file
After googling for the error "can't make [] into type alias", I tried to change such lines to:
set current_path to (POSIX path of (current_file as alias))
set new_file to choose file default location (current_path) with multiple selections allowed
open new_file
But, however, the same error remains.
Do you have any idea on how could this work?

I'm not certain when the standard applescript dialogs were updated to accept posix paths, but it may have been 10.5.

Generally when creating a Word file from either a Mac or Win7 pc and opening it on two different machines (either one first) it always prompts that the file is open and will be opened as read only. However opening a CSS file does not prompt that it is alr

Generally when creating a Word file from either a Mac or Win7 pc and opening it on two different machines (either one first) it always prompts that the file is open and will be opened as read only.
However opening a CSS file does not prompt that it is already open on or from any machine which is causing code edits to be lost.
What we found from out testing:
- The file can be saved from one user to the server and WILL NOT PROMPT on other machines until the saving machine has the Dreamweaver program closed completely
- The file can be closed and Dreamweaver minimised to the launch bar but it still will not register on other machines that it has been changed.
- Also, until the Dreamweaver program is closed on the machines, it will continue to open it's saved version of the file.
Example Scenario:
- User 1 opens test.css (which is 2000 lines) and adds some code to the end of the file to bring it up to 2500 lines
- Meanwhile User 2 opens test.css as well (opens as 2000 lines as User 1’s edits have not yet been saved) and adds in code to bring it to 2300 lines
- User 1 saves his file and closes it - but Dreamweaver is still open.
- User 2 also saves his file and leaves Dreamweaver open.
- The server will report the size and last edit of the file the same as User 2 as he was the last person to save it (and if you open from the Win7 Machine it will show as User 2’s 2300 line version)
- If User 1 then open's the file again (from either the 'recent' in Dreamweaver OR clicking on the file directly in Finder...which version opens.... The version that User 1 saved! Not the true version on the server, but the version that User 1 edited and saved with 2500 lines in it.
- Same for User 2, he will open 'his' version with 2300 lines in.
Other information:
- Files are opened directly from the server
- Sometimes the users will save incrementally and re-open
- Most of the time users will save incrementally and keep the files open
- The users will never not save incrementally and just save when closing the file once finished
- The users are usually working on the files all day
- It is always the bottom lines of code that are lost. It could be a case of the two versions being mixed up and cutting off the newly added lines based on the line count (possibly).
It is as if Dreamweaver is holding a cache of the version locally and then only properly looking back to the server when it has been completely closed. It is very difficult to see how the server is causing such an impact on these files, there are very few logs which are giving any indication to the root cause of the problems.
Anyone know if this is a known issue?
Is there a way that there can be a featured implemented on the server that doesn't allow another user to open a file if it is already open on another machine?

Your server file handling has nothing, and really nothing to do with Adobe software. If files don't get locked for (over-)writing and/or lose connection to the program opening them, then your server is misconfigured. It's as plain and simple and that. Anything from "known file types"/ file associations not being set correctly, MIME types being botched, crooked user privileges and file permissions, missing Mac server extensions, delayed file writing on the server, generic network timeout issues and what have you. Either way, you have written a longwinded post with no real value since you haven't bothered to provide any proper technical info, most notably about the alleged server. Either way, the only way you can "fix" it is by straightening out your server and network configuration, not some magic switch in Adobe's software.

as an admin @ school I was wondering how to make created folders/ files from one teacher, read only for other teachers?
- In a 2008domain, created a group "teachers"
- created a folder "teacher data" where all teachers have read/write permissions
ideal,a teacher who make's a folder in "teacher data" should be the only oen who is able to add file's to that folder and dele that folder or files. Other teachers may be able to read the content of the folder.
Is this possible to set up and how?

You could set the permissions below to resolve the issue:
For the root folder "teacher data": give the full control permission to CREATOR OWNER – "Subfolders and files only" and give the read/write permissions to the group "teachers"– "This folder only".

Type is one part of Org creation....
Optionally, select an organization type in the Type field.
Organization types do not classify your organization, you use them for reporting purposes only. The type may identify the function an organization performs, such as Administration or Service, or the level of each organization in your enterprise, such as Division, Department or Cost Center. You create the organization types you require by entering values for the Lookup Type ORG_TYPE.

Make field read only untill value within pciklist is choosen

I am trying to establish if it is possible to make a field read-only until a value within a pick list is chosen. Basically we have a pick list called structure and if the field value called "Aligned" is selected then I want the text field called Aligned Name to be available for import all other times this field should not be available.
Has anyone done anything similar? I'm guessing that this could only be achieved through WF but I haven't been able to find any code to make fields read only.

As an example to illustrate this requirement, let’s say that once there is a checkbox field called "My_Check_Box". When this field is checked, the "Account Type" field need to become a required for entry by the user. To do this follow these steps:
1. In the Admin> Application Customization, select the appropriate Object and go into the Object Field Setup.
2. Edit the field called "My_Check_Box" and enter a Field Validation expression so it uses the following expression:
=[<bMy_Check_Box_ITAG>] AND NOT([<AccountType>] IS NULL AND [<bMy_Check_Box_ITAG >]='Y')
3. Enter an explicit error message.
This expression means that when the checkbox field is checked, the Account Type becomes required. Your custom error message will be raised when checking the checkbox, leaving the account type unpopulated and trying to save the account record.
4. Edit the Account Type field and enter the following expression as Field Validation:
=[<AccountType>] AND NOT([<AccountType>] IS NULL AND [<bMy_Check_Box_ITAG >]='Y')
5. Enter an explicit error message.
That validation handles the user case where a user changes the Account Type value from a NOT NULL value to a NULL value. Your custom error message will be raised when emptying out the account type from a populated value to nothing while the checkbox is checked and trying to save the account record.
Note that the expression in both fields validations begins with the field variable on which the statement is being written.**

How to make fields read only after form is filled in

I am creating forms to be used within our company. The customer srv representative (CSR) would fill in the form and send it to the customer for signature and initial. There are a few issues I can't solve.
1) I need to make the rate & services fields read only after the CSR initials the form

Will the CSR have Acrobat or just Reader, and what type of computer will the CSR be using (Windows/Mac/mobile OS)? If just Reader (Wind/Mac), this is possible by setting the fields to read-only with JavaScript. The problem is this can't be considered secure, even if using a password as discussed here: Password-protect and hide one form field
With Acrobat you have the ability to flatten certain fields, which makes it a bit more difficult to change the "fields".

Can you be a bit clear on your requirement. If you have a switcher to display a field based on some condition, the other fields will not get displayed. I did not get as to what you mean by "my purpose is to make that field read-only not hide.".
Are you talking about the case, when the "New Annual Amount" (or) "Annual Pay Rate" fields are displayed conditionally, you want them to be read-only and not editable. If this is the case, set the read-only property of these fields to true.

How to make a User Field Read Only?

How can i make a title userfield in a Document Form read only?
I can't set enabled to false i just want to make it read only.
I had tried to capture de key_down event on the user field, nothing happens!
I had tried to capture de form_key_down event on the user field... SAP throws the event without the item id reference.
Is there a work-around for this?

Hi,
1. capture et_click and click to another item, also save the original value to a variable
and/or
2. use et_validate with before_action = true to be sure the item hasnt changed and set bubbleevent
to false when the value is different from the variable
