Migration Oracle to SQL Server

Hello folks
I´m planning database migrate from oracle to sql server 2005
I have windows 2003 server 32bits, R3 4.72 and Oracle 9i, i want to change just database software (oracle to sql)
Do you have any idea to do this?
I was thinking use the installation master to do the export database and later instal sql server and import the database via installation master too but im not sure if a will get errors or something like that
Thanks

Heterogeneous migrations must be done by a certified migration consultant, otherwise you will loose support for the migration itself and for the target system. See http://service.sap.com/osdbmigration

Basically you're right - but there are a few things for source and target system to consider; using just the tools and kernels from the installation DVD is likely to fail since they are too old and must be replaced during the migration with newer tools.
BTW: there's a separate forum for migrations:

  • Faster way to migrate data from SQL Server to Oracle 10g

    We have to migrate data from SQL Server to Oracle 10 g.
    One particular table on SQL Server has records around 1.25 millions.
    We tried moving data using DTS package, but looks it will take hours with current speed of 300 records/minute.
    This table has TEXT column, which has XML strings stored. I am not sure, if this is the reason for slow migration.
    Would you please suggest better options to migrate it faster?
    Thanks in advance !!!

  • Migrating data from oracle to sql server

    I have two databases(Oracle and Sql Server) in my company.
    I want to migrate some data on daily basis from Oracle to Sql Server.
    what are the best methodologies used to perform this task?
    Can we schedule this task on daily basis?
    please help me guys

    Salma,
    First and foremost, you need to understand that there are architectural difference between Oracle and SQL Server (with the major one being the difference between Oracle's PL/SQL and Microsoft's Transact-SQL) thus, it will not be an easy task to migrate data from Oracle Database to SQL Server. As far as the use of tools is concerned, you can utilize the following tools (third party tools not recommended) to achieve this:
    Microsoft SQL Server Migration Assistant (Oracle to SQL)
    http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2005/en/us/migration-oracle.aspx
    Oracle SQL Developer Migration Workbench (SQL to Oracle)
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration//workbench/index_sqldev_omwb.html
    But before proceeding with anything, I would recommend you to read through the following post as it lists down the primary compatibility resources and migration guidelines:
    Migrating from Oracle to SQL Server
    http://vyaskn.tripod.com/oracle_sql_server_differences_equivalents.htm
    Hope this helps.

  • SSMA 6.0 Oracle to SQL Server 2012 Migration

    Hi SSMA Team,
    We were migrating data from Oracle(Oracle 10.2.0.5.0)
     to SQL server 2012 via SSMA 6.0 and during the migration experiencing  below error
    “ORA-03106: fatal two-task communication protocol error”
    We are using SSMA on Windows server 2008 R2 standard 64 Bit server, also SSMA is configured to use basic Oracle provider.
    Would you also please let us know what Oracle Client provider is used in SSMA 6.0 to migrate the data, additionally can you please confirm that the driver used for connectivity is " System.Data.OracleClient.OracleConnection"?
    We have 891 tables to migrate the data from Oracle to SQL server. Out of 891 table we are getting random failures ranging from 3- 9 tables(Failed tables).
    We are getting this error in between the data migration of all tables, as we have done the settings to continue the data migration in case of failures. It continues to migrate data for rest of tables.  We are using SSMA console
    V 6.0 to migrate the data.
    I can assure you that this is not the permission issue at all (since the migration go successful for other tables and failed only for 3-10 random tables only). Following is the Variable file details we using.
    <variable-group name="OracleConnection">
        <variable name="$OracleHostName$"  value="SourceHostname"/>
        <variable name="$OracleInstance$"  value="DP"/>
        <variable name="$OraclePort$"  value="1521"/>

        <variable name="$OraclePassword$"  value="PWD "/>
        <variable name="$OracleSchemaName$" value="$SchemaName$"/>
      </variable-group>

        <variable name="$SQLServerUsrID$"  value=""/>
        <variable name="$SQLServerPwd$"    value=""/>

    This issue become a bottleneck for our project deliver, would you please help us to solve the issue at the earliest.

  • Migration of Database from Oracle to SQL Server in Business Objects XI 3.1

    Hi,
    Currently, We are working on Business Objects XI 3.1 and Database is  Oracle 11g. And now we have the requirement to migrate from Oracle 11g to SQL Server 2008 R2.
    I would like to know what are the key points to be considered in business objects XI 3.1 when the database is migrated from oracle to SQL server.
    If anyone can share the Impact analysis document for Business Objects, it would be great.
    Thanks,
    Lavanyaa TP

    If you use business objects tools for such migration , the impact should be minimal.
    CMSDBCopy mechanism from CCM should work fine for this purpose.

  • ODBC errors for Oracle Migration Workbench and SQL Server 2000 on Windows

    Hi all-
    I setup a new ODBC connection for the Oracle 10g Migration Workbench to MS SQL Server 2000 on Windows XP and keep getting the following errors when I try to
    either test the new ODBC connection to MS SQL Server 2000 for use with the Oracle Migration Workbench tool. Goal is to fix these errors so that I can migrate our test SQL Server 2000 databases to Oracle 10g.
    Current configuration
    - Oracle 10.1 Migration Workbench
    - Oracle 10g Database (target)
    - MS SQL Server 2000 (source database)
    -Windows XP
    -ODBC 3.85.1117 driver for Windows XP with SQL Server and Oracle
    Errors:
    I. When I test the ODBC connection:
    Microsoft SQL Server ODBC Driver Version 03.85.1117
    Running connectivity tests...
    Attempting connection
    [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]Specified SQL server not found.
    TESTS FAILED!
    Now here is what has me totally confused:
    I can use the command line ISQL to access the database on the server and IP is all correct and port is available. So I can access the SQL Server database fine it is when I try to setup ODBC that it gives me problems.
    Any tips how to get this ODBC working?
    Thanks
    Ben Prusinski

    1. Jing Jin. If you had READ the post you would have seen that installing later versions is NOT an option.
    2. Not supported does NOT mean does NOT work, as Balmukund pointed out in the referenced thread.  The site that this databases supports is using ASP which is also NOT supported by Microsoft.  As it turns out Balmukund's solution actually turns
    out to be the correct solution.  I installed SS2K and its Service pack 4 on the machine last night.  Good answer Balmukund. as we say in the Navy, "BRAVO ZULU!!"  which means "WELL DONE!!
    3. Tom Li I just posted the question less than 48 hours ago.  My last post was less than 24 hours ago.  I think I have the right to be given the opportunity to determine whether a reply is the answer or not. I understand you don't like unanswered
    posts sitting around for weeks, months or years. (I don't like it either as I have a few that are still unanswered after several years.)  But you should not be showing replies as answers before I even get a chance to see them, much less try them out.
    You should also not be showing replies as answers which don't address the criteria of the question.  I specifically stated that I had to install SS2K.  I went on to state, "And before anyone asks I need to install this version because that is what
    the customer is using and I need to duplicate their databases."  So the correct answer, if in fact SS2K did not work on Windows 7, would have been a virtual machine answer, as suggested on the thread Balmukund referenced.  So before you mark a reply
    as an answer read the question.

  • Error while converting schema from oracle to SQL server

    Hello,
    I am getting following error while converting schema from oracle to SQL server using SSMA.
    I get Errors 1-3 while migrating procedures and error 4 while migrating a table.
    1- O2SS0050: Conversion of identifier 'SYSDATE' is not supported.
    2- O2SS0050: Conversion of identifier 'to_date(VARCHAR2, CHAR)' is not supported.
    3- O2SS0050: Conversion of identifier 'regexp_replace(VARCHAR2, CHAR)' is not supported.
    4- O2SS0486: <Primary key name> constraint is disabled in Oracle and cannot be converted because SQL Server does not support disabling of primary or unique constraint.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks.

    The exact statement in oracle side which causing this error (O2SS0050:
    Conversion of identifier 'to_date(VARCHAR2, CHAR)' is not supported.) is below:
    dStartDate:= to_date(sStartDate,'MON-YYYY');
    Statement causing error O2SS0050:
    Conversion of identifier 'regexp_replace(VARCHAR2, CHAR)' is not supported is below.
    nCount2:= length(regexp_replace(sDataRow,'[^,]'));
    So there is no statement which is using to_date(VARCHAR2,
    CHAR) and regexp_replace(VARCHAR2, CHAR) in as such. 'MON-YYYY'  and '[^,]'
    are CHAR values hence SSMA is unable to convert it from varchar2 to char.
    Regarding SYSDATE issue, you mean to put below code in target(SQL) side in SSMA ?
    dDate date := sysdate;
    Thanks.

  • Question about transfer between oracle and sql server

    Could i program to transfer lots of data between Oracle and SQL Server quickly?
    I have tried make two connection between two databases, but it took me lots of time to transfer data.
    How could I do it?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    If you need to move data fast, then use the Oracle Migration Workbench to Generate SQL Server BCP data extraction scripts and Oracle SQL Loader files.
    This is the fastest way to migrate the data.
    In the Oracle Model UI tab of the Oracle Migration Workbench, right mouse click on the tables folder. there is a menu option to 'Generate SQL Loader ...' scripts. This will help you migrate your data efficiently.

    Hello,
    the SQL Developer Migration Workbench does not yet include online migrations of SQL Server 2008 (maximum version is 2005) to Oracle 11g. But an offline migration should work. Please refer to:

    For the other direction from Oracle to SQL Server you should check Microsoft sites, e.g. start here:
