How to migrate Oracle to SQL Server
Hi Guys,
We are maintaining .sql files for the base tables.Like we have a sequel file region.sql which contains the insert statements for the region table .Like we have around 389 no of tables and 389 corrsponding .sql files and these sequel files are specific to oracle only. Now we have to do the same thing for the sequel server. Can any body tell me how to achive this with minimal effort.Any siggestions are welcome and appreciated.
I know this is oracle forum , I should not post this still I am doing this because I think this is the best forum to get the ideas
Thanks,

Migration Oracle to SQL Server
Hello folks
I´m planning database migrate from oracle to sql server 2005
I have windows 2003 server 32bits, R3 4.72 and Oracle 9i, i want to change just database software (oracle to sql)
Do you have any idea to do this?
I was thinking use the installation master to do the export database and later instal sql server and import the database via installation master too but im not sure if a will get errors or something like that

Heterogeneous migrations must be done by a certified migration consultant, otherwise you will loose support for the migration itself and for the target system. See http://service.sap.com/osdbmigration

Basically you're right - but there are a few things for source and target system to consider; using just the tools and kernels from the installation DVD is likely to fail since they are too old and must be replaced during the migration with newer tools.
BTW: there's a separate forum for migrations:

How can I migrate data from SQL Server 6,5 to Oracle 8?
We have a web site based on Microsoft SQL Server 6.5.Now we plan
to migrate the database to Oracle 8.
We have redesigned the tables structure and created tables under
Oracle 8, so we only need to migrate data from SQL Server.
We've exported data from SQL Server to text files.
How can we import data from files and restore to Oracle tables.
Is there a solution which let us to import data for particular
table columns,not all columns?
We'll be appreciated if somene can give suggestions.

Michael
nullThank you for your reply.
I'll try the Oracle sqlloader utility first.

ODBC errors for Oracle Migration Workbench and SQL Server 2000 on Windows
Hi all-
I setup a new ODBC connection for the Oracle 10g Migration Workbench to MS SQL Server 2000 on Windows XP and keep getting the following errors when I try to
either test the new ODBC connection to MS SQL Server 2000 for use with the Oracle Migration Workbench tool. Goal is to fix these errors so that I can migrate our test SQL Server 2000 databases to Oracle 10g.
Current configuration
- Oracle 10.1 Migration Workbench
- Oracle 10g Database (target)
- MS SQL Server 2000 (source database)
-Windows XP
-ODBC 3.85.1117 driver for Windows XP with SQL Server and Oracle
Errors:
I. When I test the ODBC connection:
Microsoft SQL Server ODBC Driver Version 03.85.1117
Running connectivity tests...
Attempting connection
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]Specified SQL server not found.
TESTS FAILED!
Now here is what has me totally confused:
I can use the command line ISQL to access the database on the server and IP is all correct and port is available. So I can access the SQL Server database fine it is when I try to setup ODBC that it gives me problems.
Any tips how to get this ODBC working?
Thanks
Ben Prusinski1. Jing Jin. If you had READ the post you would have seen that installing later versions is NOT an option.
2. Not supported does NOT mean does NOT work, as Balmukund pointed out in the referenced thread. The site that this databases supports is using ASP which is also NOT supported by Microsoft. As it turns out Balmukund's solution actually turns
out to be the correct solution. I installed SS2K and its Service pack 4 on the machine last night. Good answer Balmukund. as we say in the Navy, "BRAVO ZULU!!" which means "WELL DONE!!
3. Tom Li I just posted the question less than 48 hours ago. My last post was less than 24 hours ago. I think I have the right to be given the opportunity to determine whether a reply is the answer or not. I understand you don't like unanswered
posts sitting around for weeks, months or years. (I don't like it either as I have a few that are still unanswered after several years.) But you should not be showing replies as answers before I even get a chance to see them, much less try them out.
You should also not be showing replies as answers which don't address the criteria of the question. I specifically stated that I had to install SS2K. I went on to state, "And before anyone asks I need to install this version because that is what
the customer is using and I need to duplicate their databases." So the correct answer, if in fact SS2K did not work on Windows 7, would have been a virtual machine answer, as suggested on the thread Balmukund referenced. So before you mark a reply
as an answer read the question.

How to connect to a Sql server from Oracle using db link
Hi All,
Does anybody have any idea about how to connect to a sql server from oracle database using db link to syncronize the data? I need to pull the data from Sql server table to Oracle tables and relay messages back to the sql server.
Thank you,
Praveen.we have 2 products - DG4MSQL and DG4ODBC.
DG4ODBC is for free and requires a 3rd party ODBC driver and it can connect to any 3rd party database as long as you use a suitable ODBC driver
DG4MSQL is more powerfull as it is designed for MS SQL Server databases and it supports many functions it can directly map to SQL Server equivalents - it can also call remote procedures or participtae in distributed transactions. Please be aware DG4MSQL requires a license - it is not for free.
Check out Metalink and you'll find notes how to configure both products.

How to create database link between oracle and SQL Server
Hello Everyone,
Here i have Oracle Database 9i and SQL Server 2005 databases.
I have some tables in sql server db and i want to access from Oracle.
How to create a database link between these two servers
Thanks,Thanks for Everyone,
I was struggle with this almost 10 days....
I created Database link from Oracle to SQL Server
Now it is fine.........
Here i am giving my servers configuration and proceedure how i created the db link...@
Using Generic Connectivity (HSODBC) we can create db link between Oracle and SQL server.
Machine (1)
DB Version : Oracle 9.2.0.7.0
Operating System : HP-UX Itanuim 64 11.23
IP : 192.168.0.31
Host : abcdbt
Machine (2)
Version : SQL Server 2005
Operating System : Windows server 2003 x86
IP : 192.168.0.175
Host : SQLDEV1
User/PW : sa/abc@123! (Connect to database)
Database : SQLTEST (exsisting)
Table : T (“ T “ is the table existing in SQLTEST database with 10 rows)
Prerequisites in Machine (2):
a) Oracle 10g software
b) User account to access SQL Server database (sa/abc@123!)
c) Existing SQL Server Database (SQLTEST)
d) Tables (testing purpose) (T)
Steps:
1) Install Oracle 10.2.0.1 (Only SW,No need of database) *(Machine 2)*
2) Create a DSN where your windows Oracle 10g SW resides *(Machine 2)*
Control panel >> Administrative Tools >> Data Source (ODBC) >> System DSN ADD
You can follow this link also.....
http://www.databasejournal.com/features/oracle/article.php/3442661/Making-a-Connection-from-Oracle-to-SQL-Server.htm
I created DSN as
DSN name : SQLTEST
User : SA/abc@123! (Existing user account)
Host : 192.168.0.175 (machine 2)
Already I have 1 database in SQL Server with the name SQLTEST
You can create DSN with different name also (not same as db name also)
3) Create a hsodbc init file in $ORACLE_HOME\hs\admin *(Machine 2)*
Create init<DSN NAME> file
Ex: initSQLTEST
Copy inithsodbc to initSQLTEST
And edit
initSQLTEST file
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = SQLTEST <DSN NAME>*
HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = OFF*
save the file....@
4) Configure Listener.ora *(Machine 2)*
LISTENER_NEW =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.0.175)(PORT = 1525))
SID_LIST_LISTENER_NEW =
(SID_LIST =
(SID_DESC =
(SID_NAME = SQLTEST) *+< Here SQLTEST is DSN NAME >+*
(ORACLE_HOME = G:\oracle 10g\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1)
(PROGRAM = hsodbc))
(SID_DESC =
(SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
(ORACLE_HOME = G:\oracle 10g\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1)
(PROGRAM = extproc) )
:> lsnrctl start LISTENER_NEW
5) Configure tnsname.ora *(Machine 2)*
SQLTEST11 =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.0.175)(PORT = 1525))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = SQLTEST))
(HS=OK)
:> tnsping SQLTEST11
If No errors then conti….
6) Configure a file *(Machine 1)*
Cd $TNS_ADMIN ($ORACLE_HOME/network/admin)
Create a file
$ vi TEST_abcdbt_ifile.ora
something=
(DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST =192.168.0.175) (PORT=1525))
(CONNECT_DATA=
(SID=SQLTEST))
(HS=OK)
$ tnsping something
$ sqlplus system/manager
Your connected to Oracle database *(machine 1)*
create database link xyz connect to “sa” identified by “abc@123!” using ‘SOMETHING’;

Faster way to migrate data from SQL Server to Oracle 10g
We have to migrate data from SQL Server to Oracle 10 g.
One particular table on SQL Server has records around 1.25 millions.
We tried moving data using DTS package, but looks it will take hours with current speed of 300 records/minute.
This table has TEXT column, which has XML strings stored. I am not sure, if this is the reason for slow migration.
Would you please suggest better options to migrate it faster?
Thanks in advance !!!Have you tried Migration work bench?
