Moving 9.2.0.6 database files and redologs using dd command.

Hi at all,
I need to know if someone have take a cold copy of database (datafile and redologs) using dd unix command.
The trouble is related to the value to assign to "bs" during dd.
For datafile I know it has to do the same of block_size of tablespace. I'm not sure about the value to assign to "bs" for redologs.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Ps. I'm moving the raw partitions of database files and redologs from HP-UX RISC 11.11 on SYMM8830 to HP-IA64 using lvm on HP XP24000 with veritas.

Why copy the redo logs ? You would be shutting down the database before you run the "dd" to copy out datafiles. With a proper shutdown, if you copy datafiles after the shutdown, you don't need the redo logs.
Recreate redo logs at the target location.
You'd have to "simulate" an incomplete Recovery using "RECOVER DATABASE USING BACKUP CONTROLFILE UNTIL CANCEL " followed by "ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS" so that Oracle allows you to do the RESETLOGS.
Or Recreate the ControlFile with a RESETLOGS in the CREATE CONTROLFILE.

How to remove Database Files and Backup from ASM

Oracle Database 11.2.0.3
OEL 5.7
We have a host for restore purposes.
We execute monthly or quarterly restore operations to verify that I am able to restore a subset of the data in the given amount of time or to other purposes.
I have a automated script to Clone the Database, but to Clone Database we need remove the old database from ASM before start this operation. I want remove only Database files and keep the configuration (such as oratab/network/ocr and so on).
Question: There is a easy way to remove these files without connect on ASM or by using DBCA?
Appreciate any helps.

Yes... there is a easy way. Use command DROP DATABASE.
Use the DROP DATABASE command to delete the target database and, if RMAN is connected to a recovery catalog, unregister it. RMAN removes all datafiles, online redo logs, and control files belonging to the target database. By default, RMAN prompts for confirmation.
Put this command on your script before clone your database:
RMAN> CONNECT TARGET SYS@test1
RMAN> STARTUP FORCE MOUNT
RMAN> SQL 'ALTER SYSTEM ENABLE RESTRICTED SESSION';
RMAN> DROP DATABASE INCLUDING BACKUPS NOPROMPT;Regards,

If your music is from iTunes, more than likely you will get some sort of error message from the program when you try to import the iTunes music into Premiere Elements (most versions including 13). In that case, please convert the iTunes music to the wav version in iTunes using the following iTunes instructions.

1. Adobe documentation indicates the USB microphone do not work in Premiere Elements and suggest the use of microphones that connect to the computer via computer jack.

I want to know how to convert .fmb and .rdf files to .txt using unix commands
Example ACCT_ACCOUNTS_ADMIN.fmb ---> ACCT_ACCOUNTS_ADMIN.txt
agent_balances.rdf ---> agent_balances.txt
NOTE: i don't want to use form builder or report builder.

Too many files and space used after Migration Assistant

After running migration assistant to transfer my 2006 MacBook Pro (core duo) to my new 2010 MacBook Pro (i7), I noticed the amount of space used went from 87 gb to 144 gb. The number of files went from 816,834 to 981,311. Was this to be expected? That many new files and space used?
One thing that happened on the first run was about an hour and half into the transfer it thinks it had lost the connection between the systems and would not restart. I had to quit the migration on the old system and reboot(power off and on) the new one. The re-run finished ok. It did think that the users on the old system were already on the new so I had it replace them. There were a few folders that indicated they were from the old mac and I deleted them.
Also there were a lot of Disk Permission errors when I ran a Verify Disk Permissions which cleared up when I ran Repair Disk Permissions.
Any thoughts/ideas on the disk space issue?

Solved.
On the restart of the Migration Assistant, it duplicated my user directories and put them in a deleted users directory in /Users.
I deleted that directory to free up the disk space.

I have an iPod video. My computer crashed, I have reinstalled iTunes, luckily I had back up of music so that's ok. I have photos on my iPod that I would like to transfer back to the computer as I lost them!! But it is a database file and I cannot open it.

You won't be able to, just by navigating out the iPod's photos folder in iTunes. You'll likely need the help of some sort of third party software to get the job done for you. One thing you'll want to keep in mind about these photos is that they are no longer in their full resolution, but instead are scaled down thumbnail versions that were optimized for viewing on your iPod's Video smaller 2.5" LCD display.

Really hoping someone can provide some code sample or point me in the right direction (with examples using sql).
I am using oracle 11g with plsql developer. My requirement is that the data retrieval should be automatic. That means when query a data in oracle table , the data should be convert into .csv file and then it should send that to some specific folder.
Example: Assume that student_sub1 table have all students subject1 data.when i write a query like select * from student_sub1 where student=1, the student1 data should convert into .csv file and then the .csv file should go to student1 folder.
Hence I am requesting you to suggest me how write a sql code to convert the data into .csv file and to create a folder to send that file using oracle.
Your inputs helps me alot.

Desktop like view of files and folders using Swing

I have an application for upload/download of files from a server. The application is developed using swing and it works perfectly. Currently, the files and folders are displayed in a table view(using jtable) in which the file/ folder will be displayed with icon and extension in each row.
I need to display these files and folders in a desktop like view. How can I implement this?

Database Updation and Insertion using Modify Statement

I am using Modify statment for data insertion and updation
MODIFY zmpit_ven_bgg_rg FROM TABLE t_ven_bgg .
But I am getting error
The type of the database table and work area (or internal table) "T_VEN_BGG" are not compatible.
I have defined my internal table of below type :
TYPES : BEGIN OF ty_ven_bgg,
        mandt             TYPE mandt,
        lifnr                 TYPE lfa1-lifnr,
        bgg                 TYPE zmpit_ven_bgg_rg-matkl,
        ind                  TYPE zmpit_ven_bgg_rg-active_ind,
        created_by      TYPE zmpit_ven_bgg_rg-created_by,
        created_on      TYPE zmpit_ven_bgg_rg-created_on,
        last_changed_by TYPE zmpit_ven_bgg_rg-last_changed_by,
        last_changed_on TYPE zmpit_ven_bgg_rg-last_changed_on,
        remarks              TYPE zmpit_ven_bgg_rg-remarks,
        ind1(1)                TYPE c,
             END OF ty_ven_bgg.
Here, ind1 is not field of the table.
I have added a new field Remarks in the table and thus i included it in the Internal table also.
Above Modify statement was working fine without Remarks field. I am not able to understand the error
as work area is also of type ty_ven_bgg.
Please suggest some solution.

Hi,
Though you have creaated one more internal tsble without the indc field, but you can do it using the same intrenal table by simply using
1. MOVE-CORRESPONDING <internal table> to <ztable>.
2.MODIFY <ztable>.
will solve your problem
Secondly declare the internal table using DATA after structure has been declared using TYPES.
This is better approach to follow.

Parsing large xml file and display using swing

Hi all,
I want to read a large xml file and display graphically in swing as a tree structure.
I implemented it and works fine for files of 5MB size after increasing the jvm heap size (-Xmx). If the file size is larger than 5MB it throws out of memory error. I'm creating a custom datastructure from the xml and I'm using sax parsing.
After displaying the datastructure, the user could do some operation on this, like search etc.
Can any of you suggest a method, to support larger files ? What I'm looking for is create the datastructure in file system, rather than in memory.
Any other tips for memory management would be greatly appreciated

Hi!
appendRow() method just add temporal row. For add them to DB commitChanges() method should be used. So you can use appendRow() method several times, fill every new row and only then use commitChanges() method. In this case all new rows will be added to DB per one time.

A common way around this is to deliver a 'blank' database with the application and just copy it whenever a new database is needed.
