My MacBook Pro tells me it's not charging when I connect the charger.  Right now it's reading it, but other times it does not.  What do I do?

Initiating a charge cycle is a costly and disruptive operation. It is only started when the benefit to battery life exceeds the cost to battery life of a charge operation. That is usually when the battery falls below 90 percent charged.

hi, i've just bought my first macbook pro, i just installed office mac and when i open the page i cannot see the minimise maximise and close buttons as it's hidden behind the apple menu bar, also when it's at full screen, those buttons do not appear

Try to edit the size of the page using the sides of the page, or if you are desperate, force quit using command-Q. In full screen put your cursor on the top of the page, and the menu bar will appear. If it doesn't keep "pushing" it up until it does. Hope this helps!

  • How can i get my macbook pro too stay on and not sleep when lid is closed?

how can i get my macbook pro too stay on and not sleep when lid is closed?

If the machine is asleep, lid closed, and you plug in to an external monitor and an external USB keyboard, the machine will wake, anbd reconfigure the screen resolution for the external monitor, Once it has made this configuration change, you can open the lid and it will continue to address only the external monitor.  At least that's how my early MacBook Pro unibody 13" works. It seems to run a bit cooler this way. It gets quite toasty with the lid closed while doing anything demanding and you are more likely to hear the fan come on.  I have not seen any temps that would cause alarm, but I do get a high speed (6000 rpm), noisy fan sometimes with the lid closed, .
If you operate in the open-lid, external monitor only mode, if you deactivate the monitor for any reason, when it reactivates it will be running both screens, with all the navigation hassles this entails, so I generally set it not to deactivate the screen when in this mode.
Thus I agree with those who say that some of the cooling air is drawn in around the keyboard, the difference in cooling performance is observable.  If you activate istat pro, get the computer hot running in clamshell mode, and open the lid, you can watch the CPU temp drop by a few degrees C within a couple minutes.  It isn't a huge difference, but enough the lower the fan speeds.

You have 14 days to return the computer w/no questions asked.  Plus you have 90 days of FREE phone tech support on top of your standard 1 year warranty unless you also purchased AppleCare which gives you an additional 2 years of coverage plus FREE phone support.
Strongly suggest that you take FULL advantage of the above before it runs out.  Let Apple deal w/the problems.

  • Macbook Pro Mid-2010 15" is not charging with dim green light

    Hi all,
I have spilled a bit of water on the keyboard of my Macbook Pro this Monday. It continued working just fine.
So, I took it home, and 2h later, when I pluged the charger in, the light turned into a very faint/dim green light and it was not charging anymore. It does not consumes battery power, because it's plugged in the outlet, but it does not charge either (says "not charging").
    I have tried the following:
Plugging it in to a different outlet
    Trying other MagSafe chargers
Making sure it's the correct charger (85w)
    Resetting SMC
    Resetting NVRAM
I have opened the back, and although I could not dismount it anymore because the lack of appropriate screwdrivers, I could find no sign of humidity or water damage.
Checking the system information page in the MacOS, I could notice that, when the charger is plugged, amperage information gradually progresses from ~ -2000 to 0.
And it does not seem to recognize the charger. See below:
    AC Charger Information:
    Connected:     Yes
    ID:     0x0000
    Wattage (W):     0
    Revision:     0x0000
    Family:     0x0000
    Serial Number:     0x00000000
    Charging:     No
Do you guys have any other suggestions?

If you are lucky, the power adapter is faulty.  I suspect that there are problems inside the MBP.  I still advocate a trip to an Apple store genius bar.  Your MBP has a hardware issue and they (Apple) can diagnose it and tell you exactly what will be required to repair it.
    Ciao.

  • Macbook pro 2010's battery is not charging.

hello, so for a while now the battery status was showing 'repalce soon' message so i wasnt to surprised that last week the battery jsut wouldnt charge, the power source was plugged in but it said not charging still. so i bought a new battery, only just chaned it but it still isnt chatging. the charge is 80 % but not charging still i did the system power management reset or whatever that i found in another forum but it didtn work. the is not light on the magsafe adapter not amber nor green.
what could go wrong? i would think that the power adapter is working as the comuter recognises it as a power source but why isn;t it charging? could it be some sort of software fault?
please help i really need the computer to be  flexible not tied to a cable....

  • MacBook Pro using power adapter but not charging.

My MacBook Pro is plugged in w/the power adapter, the green charging light is on, but my battery percentage is only showing 15% and is not increasing.  It was actually at 60% this afternoon...went to 22% and now is @ 15%.

Could be bad battery or faulty charger or faulty charging circuitry. Take it to an Apple store or AASP.

  • Transferred CS4 to new MacBook Pro, now some fonts will not work when PDFing documents from InDesign CS4. Help!

I recently purchased a new MacBook Pro. I transferred my CS4 from my older MacBook Pro to my new computer, and although it seemed to be working fine now some fonts will not work when PDFing documents from InDesign CS4. These fonts are installed on my new computer, can be found in InDesign CS4, and work fine within the program but will not appear in PDFs. The letters turn into rectangles. Does anyone know why, and how to fix that?
Help/input would be much appreciated. Thank you!
    Kristen.

you should properly install adobe products, not move, migrate or otherwise transfer them.

  • Why does my macbook pro keeping saying it is not supported when I try to connect it to other devices?

My macbook pro keeps saying its not supported when i try to transfer images and stuff from my macbook pro to my iphone 4. What do I do?

First, put your images into iPhoto or into a separate folder. Open iTunes and connect your phone. Select the iPhone under the Devices section of iTunes' sidebar. Click on the Photos tab in iTunes' main window. From the dropdown menu you can select iPhoto or some other folder from which to sync the photos to your phone.

  • 2010 macbook pro 13 in. keyboard does not illuminate when hitting f6 button

Just purchased a used 2010 Macbook pro. Keyboard does not illuminate when toggling f6 function button. Please advise. I've tried everything

If you try different outlets and that does not help, try to borrow a different charger and see if that works.  If not, or you cannot borrow one, take the MacBook Pro and charger to an App,e store genius bar and have them tested.

  • Ask your question.new battery  4 macbook pro 15in....not charging

my new battery is not charging.??... i can only used my "lab top"with  help of the power adapter....ANY /HELP ,so i can stop  plug in ...mac probook 15in...THANKS

I installed the new one, the MacBook did not recognize it. I thought it needed to charge, but the green light on the power cord came on, so I didn't think that was the problem. In the status bar, the battery shows up with an X in it, and no percentage will display.

  • 17" Macbook Pro (2011) battery drains or not charging while using intensive CPU

My brand new 17" MBP (August 2011) has a serious problem: Despite the AC adaptor is plugged in, the battery starts to drain (or is unable to charge if it is lower than 95%) when I ran intensive tasks (like rendering with After FX, convert videos with Compressor or start to play a videogame). I tested it and it happens under Mac OS X and Windows 7 (BootCamp).
I readed some user have the same problem with 15" & 17" MBP 2011 models. But I haven't found any solution.
Anyone knows if this is a hardware or software failure? Do I need to ask Apple for a new machine?
Any help will be welcome. Thanks.

Thanks Retired Engineer, but I don't think it's normal. Well, maybe it is "normal" (or by definition: common) in the 2011 MBP models, but it doesn't means that there is a problem with its design or hardware.
I have an "old" 15" MBP, which I bought in 2007, and since then it never happened to me that the computer is draining or unable to charge the battery while heavy processor intensive processes. I used the exact same softwares and processes in my new 2011 17" MBP, and then is when I detected the problem.
I read on some forums that this is a common issue with 2011 models. I don't know if Apple has an official answer about this or if there is a solution or workaround. Maybe they could simply shipped this machines with a more powerful AC adapter, able to deliver more than 85W, which seems to be not enough.
I will make further investigation about this, because I think it is a serious problem when it is presented in a computer labeled as "Pro", which I understand is designed to be under heavy usage.
