  • Applying Paches to Oracle 9i (trial version)

    HEllo,
I have problems invoking DBCA and running the LISTENER after installing Oracle 9i Database (trial version) downloaded from OTN.
I have read that there are patches such as:
    p2617419_10102_GENERIC.zip
    p3006854_9204_LINUX.zip
    p3095277_9204_LINUX.zip
    p3119415_9204_LINUX.zip
    p3238244_9204_LINUX.zip
Are those patches relevant to me?
Are there other patches I should install ?

Is the PC/Laptop you are using a pentium 4? There are issues with P4 and the Java Installer, see metalink for work around...
I have made repeated attempts to download and setup Oracle 9i Trial Version on my Gateway Profile 3 under Windows XP Home edition.
I first downloaded to another PC, then copied the 3 zip files to CDs to load on my Profle 3, since it was not connected to a broadband connection. I followed the instructions completely, making the 3 Diskx folders and copying each CD to the required folder. I extracted using XPs Extract (with folders), then using WinZip and had the same problem: When clicking on Setup.exe in the Disk1 folder nothing happens.
I then ran Setup.exe on the XP machine I originally downloaded the zip files to, thinking there might be a problem transporting to CDs. The install worked fine.
I then connected my Profile 3 to Broadband and spent another 2 plus hours downloading the 3 files to it. After deleting the previous extracted files, I extracted the files (with folders) and again tried to run setup. Again, I click on Setup, or right-click and click on Open and nothing happens.
Trying to contact tech support telephonically has been a waste of time. The inability to run Oracle will dramatically affect my current decion to purchase the product.
    Can Anyone help????
    Thank You

    Hello -
You should look at the white paper, accessible at cloud.oracle.com under the Resources menu, about the security lockdown for the Database Cloud Service.  The DBMS_LOCK package is not included as part of the Database Cloud Service, so you will have to find another way to implement this functionality.
    Hope this helps.

  • Oracle database - trial version

Hi all, I have downloaded and installed SAP NetWeaver 2004s ABAP Trial Version (incl. Web Dynpro ABAP) in order to exercise myself with this new technology.
In the future I will have to deal with a SAP R/3 4.7 system based on Oracle database.
    My question is:
    1) if I also install oracle, will I be able to interface it with SAP NW2004s?
Right now I can only deal with MaxDB database which is included in the sneak preview.
My goal is to practice with Oracle database and the BR*Tools, in order to gain some experience with backup and restore/recovery.
    Please advise.
    Best regards.

how could you? all database objects are within the MaxDB database...the kernel (sap executables) is (partly) database depedent and os on...
but you could install oracle, <b>create  a test database</b> and perform some tests with that test db...if it's just for the tools you wouldn't need lots of data to test...

I installed 11.5.7 on NT and it took about 55 gig with vision. I think the problem is that the documentation is out of date for 11.5.7 and above because of the added functionality.
I would certainly budget for 60-70 gig if you can.
    Hope that helps

What is the partioning that I should have for the second HDD in order to accomplish this. I have seen people with OC installed on their laptops. So I should be able to install OC on my PC's 2nd HDD. I just need to know the sizing.

    2. Sizing for Oracle Clinical DB ???
    3. Sizing for Webserver ( 5 GB enougH or 8 Gb?)
    4. Sizing for Reports Server ( 5 GB or 8 Gb?)
KIndly advice or let me know how you are going about it.

  • Oracle Cloud Performance

Using the Oracle Cloud Trial, I've noticed that reports and data extracts (pl/sql blocks of code), seem to run very slowly. In some cases 3-4x worse than our benchmarks on using entry level Sun servers in our hosted environment. Reports that take 5 seconds now take 35-40 seconds on the Cloud using the same exact db structures, data, sql, pl/sql, indexing etc. Any long running jobs, 3+ min never complete and are killed by the system (I guess this is expected based on the docs). My understanding is that there is no difference in performance using the trial vs. the paid version. Web pages, login, navigation etc all perform very well.
Is there any way to have long running jobs, those that take 3-5+ min, run to completion? Also, are there any performance tools available for the Cloud. Without access to things like AWR, ADDM, DBMS_PROFILER etc, it is hard to determine what is going on.
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hi Steve -
Sorry to hear about your performance problems with the Database Cloud trial. I would be interested to hear more about specifics of these reports and data extracts. Of course, the latency of communications over the Internet impact overall performance, but it is difficult to understand how much this is contributing to your performance issues. I have not experienced similar problems in my work, which is why I would be very interested in hearing more.
In terms of performance tools, you can always check out the APEX auditing, as well as standard tools such as Explain Plan in the SQL Command tool, but this may or may not reveal much useful information. Tools such as AWR and ADDM apply to an overall instance, and, as such, will not be available in a multi-tenant architecture like the current Database Cloud.

  • Background running Oracle net services eject CD out of CD writer

    I'm reporting a problem.
It took me months to finally figure out why my CD was constantly ejecting, thus my automatic backups of my personal files couldn't take place. I didn't realize that even though I shut down the database, there were still 3 active processes running. One of which (Oraclexe.exe) would overun my system for 5-10 minutes taking up 100% CPU usage (that was addressed in another post).
One of the three net processes sends an eject command to the cd writer or has a interrupt conflict thus ejecting a cd from the cd writer.
After terminating all ORACLE processes, My CD has not ejected by itself for over two weeks. Thus ORACLE was in conflict with it.
    My system :
    windows2000
    Vexira antivirus
    ZoneAlarm Pro firewall
    512 M ram
Oracle 10gxe (trial version) (one table created with two records.)
Dell Latitude CPiR laptop in a docking station (Cdock)
    bill

"Why do you have to shutdown the database to backup "personal files"? What has this CD and "personal files" backup got to do with net processes and oracle processes?"
That is a good question I shouldn't have to, that is why I'm reporting the problem.
I merely have retrospect 7.0 backup scheduled to backup personal files on CD everyevening. When the Oracle net processess are running the CD gets ejected at totally random times, thus when the backup starts it can't because the cd is ejected. They have nothing to do with each other in theory hence there is a conflict somewhere.
I was merely experimenting with oracle and created two tables with two records in them back in Novemeber when I first downloaded the program. Thus I shutdown the database when not in use since I'm not using it. I was unaware of three other oracle networking processes that were still running in the background. These would grab 100% cpu usage at intervals and increase their memory usage from 27M to 152M. This was perplexing since I don't have anything in my database except two records since I haven't completed the project yet. When I shut down those last remaining processess, the CD has not ejected at random times, and my retrospect backup program scheduler has been able to backup files regularly again.
    Hope that explains it better.

  • Oracle version for AIX 5.3 ?

I just download the latest Oracle 10g Trial version for AIX 5L from the Web. But as I go through installation, while running "runInstaller", it gave me message:
"Checking operating system version: must be 5200
    Failed <<<<"
Of course since I have AIX 5.3. The requirement of Oracle 10g says the OS should be "AIX 5L version 5.2, Main level 1 or higher". With AIX 5.3, is there a Oracle version?
    thanks,

    Thank you, it worked!
However it seems to me a more workaround. Is there a source to say Oracle 10g for AIX 5.3 is officially supported (or aka certified for the platform)? If a Oracle 10g is purchased and problem develops on AIX 5.3, I don't want to get a saying it is not yet certified.
    Thanks,

While there isn't an Oracle database version for the Intel chip set, you can install a VMWare Fusion virtual machine and access the database from the Mac OS natively. The Mac Leopard version of the Oracle Client software was released a few months ago. You can find instructions for configuring the Oracle Client software on my blog:
