Print form feed \f escape sequence in labview 7.0

I have a large string that I am trying to print that contains a form feed (\f) as defined in the LabView documentaiton. What I get is a little square where the \f should be and no new page. What am I doing wrong?
Steve

Hey Steve,
To where are you trying to print your string? LV front panel string control?....or to some external device?
I would check and make sure your string controls/indicators are in code/normal mode. You can do this by right-clicking on the control/indicator...(codes and normal are two of the options)
Set in codes mode for the \f to be interpreted as a form feed. On the other end, normal mode, should perform the form feed.
Let me know if this helps/works,
Brett

  • Leopard Terminal.app no longer supports ANSI print escape sequences?!!

I print my email using pine's "attached-to-ansi" option, which used to work great in Tiger with Terminal.app. It no longer works in Leopard. It also breaks things like the "ansiprt" Unix command.
This is a start/stop escape sequence that diverts text between the start/stop sequences to the printer. See http://www.termsys.demon.co.uk/vtansi.htm as a reference.
Is there some Terminal.app setting I need to use to enable this? Some specific terminal type perhaps?
Suggesting that I use enscript or other techniques don't work, as I use the Terminal to ssh into my mail server, then run pine on the mail server.
Anyway, any idea how to get this very desirable feature back?
    Thanks,
    -John

    HI,
I tried to set "Escape non-ASCII input" without any change. I didn't see an option to change "Escape non-ASCII output". I tried a few other things without success either using a different terminal type and so forth. I looked in the .term file and didn't see anything text related to ANSI or ASCII or escape.
If I change a Terminal preference do I need to quit and restart Terminal to test the change, or does the change take place as soon as I change it in the menu? I tried quitting and restarting after checking "Escape non-ASCII input" and when I restart the box was unchecked. I couldn't find a "save preferences option either.
In Tiger, my terminal type was xterm-color- same in Leopard. I had checked off "Escape non-ASCII characters" under Tiger.
Here's exactly what I do, *which used to work in Leopard*.
I run Terminal.app on my MacBook, and ssh to a mail server. On the mail server, I run the pine command to read my mail. Pine has an option to print email using ASCII escape sequences. Terminal.app sees these escape sequences and diverts the text to the default printer on my MacBook.
Under Leopard, the Terminal doesn't catch the ANSI escape code, and just spews the text to the terminal window. Nothing has changed on the mail server side. I;m using the sane ssh command.
Enscript won't work, as the printer connected to the mail server is often as not in a different state than my MacBook.
Not all terminal emulators support the ANSI print escape sequences. Terminal didn't before Tiger, if I remember correctly. I used to use a very nice terminal emulator called Data Comet which did it.
ANSI printing used to be a fairly common way to print to a local printer connected to via a parallel cable. Besides pine, the Unix command ansiprt http://kb.iu.edu/data/abye.html could be used to print remote files on the local printer. Some terminal emulator programs used the idea to hook the ANSI escape sequence to the printing system, extending the functionality to use any printer accessible by the local system.
Thanks again for all your help. I hope I've clarified what I'm trying to do.

  • HP P1606dn network printer spools jobs but won't print without a "form feed"

I recently changed by HP P1606dn printer from a USB connection to my HP desktop running Windows 7 (64bit) to a network connection.  The objective was to allow my Mac (OS 10.6.8) to print to this printers as well via the network.
When I first installed the printer it worked fine.  Then I installed the HP drivers on the Mac, and it too worked fine and continues to work fine.  However, my Windows 8 desktop stopped printing.  It appears to spool the print jobs correctly and they show up in the queue as actively printing.  However, the only way to get them out is to go over to the printer and press the "form feed" button (button showing page with down arrow).  Then the HP test page will come out followed by the desired print job.
I've tried disabling "bi-directional support" in the "ports" tab under "printer properties" but that did not help.
    Any helpful advice appreciated!

  • Printing via Airport Express:  Missing Final Form Feed

Maybe a guru could help with this one...
Spooling a print job from an iMac G5 to an HP Photosmart 7150 that is connected to the Airport Express USB port...
The job prints fine but I don't get a FINAL FORMFEED after the last page has printed. I have to manually eject...
The iMac has the latest OS Update (10.4.2) and all the drivers for system software (including Airport 4.2 for Mac OS X 10.4.2). The printer driver is from HP's support site - version 2.5.6 (August 2005) for Mac OX X v10.2, 10.3 & 10.4.
Note: the printer works fine (final form feed & all) when you have it attached directly to the iMac.

Hi Ian and welcome to the Discussions.
According to HP the PhotoSmart 7150 is not compatible with the Airport base station, which implies that it will not work across a network when connected to an Airport Express as it would when directly connected.
It may work as you want with a third-party driver such as the HPIJS drivers and the process outlined here: http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/1300.html

  • How to suppress extra form feed for character report printing using ORARRP?

    Dear All,
We are using Oracle Application Server 10g (10.1.2.0.2) on Windows 2003 Server and most of our client PC's are Windows XP Professional machines. We are migrating our existing oracle application from 2-tier architecture to 3-tier architecture (6i to 10g). We have installed ORARRP utility for remote direct printing and to a limited extent we are successfull in getting the things work out for our system users, However, we are facing a problem using the ORARRP utility for which we are not able to find a solution till date.
We have configured ORARRP utility on every user's PC and the printing of bitmap reports is working well. However, while printing CHARACTER reports using ORARRP utility, after the report gets printed, an EXTRA FORM FEED is issued by ORARRP to the printer and because of this the printer stationary skips one extra page and advances to the next page. Please note that this EXTRA FORM FEED happens only while printing a CHARACTER REPORT.
Has anyone come across such a problem using ORARRP ? How can we avoid this extra FORM FEED from CHARACTER REPORT printing using ORARRP ? Is there any other tool which supports remote direct printing just like ORARRP?
I shall be highly obliged if anyone could reply to my queries ASAP.
    Regards,
    KrishnaKumar S

Please help ! I tried the "send_form_feed" and "postscript_dos_print" parameters without success. The extra form feed is always there. Thanks.

  • Automatic Form Feed - Epson LQ - 2180 printer to R12 in Solaris Environment

    Hi
We are adding a new Epson dot matrix [ Impact] Printer to our system. [Epson LQ - 2180]
Server OS: Sun OS sun4v sparc SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise-T5120
    R12 Version: 12.1.3
This is a network printer. This has been added to the printer server via root. We have configured the Printer in the Front end also via Install -=-> Printer in System Administrator REsponsibility.
Our goal is to print three programs serially one after the other at a time. The paper input feed is continuous sheet.
When we print from normal windows applications like notepad and MS-word, the page feed / form feed automatically gets set after each request. So that each request gets started in a New page. But this is not the case when we try to do the same from EBS.
Is there any special setting / value that we need to set in the Printer Drivers like Arguments, Initialization and reset.
We referred the printer manual but could not find any specific command or value to be set for Solaris.

  • Print in text mode to detect escape sequences

    Hello,
We have got an issu, on our .NET print program using Crystal 12 SP3. The issue has concequences on :
    - Barcode print on matrix printer
    - Barcode print on thermal printer
    - Other commands send to a FAX printer driver
Using the SDK, the print driver receives print data in graphical print mode, but it has to be text mode for the printer driver to detect the correct escape sequences. The escapes sequences are used by the driver to switch the font or receive a command.
Is there a way to force the print in text mode ?
The same report printed from Crystal Reports 2008 SP 3 "works", but not from the .NET sdk.
Here is a little example. We made a simple Report, containing 2 simple Text Objects :
    Code Barres $ [ /

As you can see above, the characters contained in the report are sent "as this" in the print driver from Crystal Reports 2008. But the pixels represention of the characters are sent from the .Net SDK.

    Hello,
    thank you for your answer.
I forgot to add the 2008 com+ API output, that is exactly the same as Crystal Report 2008.
    - From Crystal Reports 2008 : WORKS
    - From a program using the 2008 com+ Runtime API : WORKS
    - From a program using the 2008 .Net Runtime API : DON'T WORK
You wrote that all the runtime print engine sends to the printer is essentially a picture. But It do send text using the com+ API.
Should I understand : The .Net runtime print engine can't send text ?

  • Sending escape sequences to control command line printing

    Hello Java Community,
I am interested in printing PDF files programatically by using a thread that used the runtime environment and the sending a command to print the file.
I hava managed to print files directly to the printer using "cmd /c acrord32.exe /h /p filename.pdf" thanks to iText FAQ.
The problem is that when I try sending the job to an Epson LX 300 printer, the job prints in letter quality while my intention is to print in draft mode.
I imagine that this problem could be resolved by passing escape sequences to set draft mode printing programatically so as to speed up my printing.
Anyone who can help me on how to achieve this.
    Will appreciate your help.

  • Please explain me how I can use Form feed(\f) and Carriage return(\r)

what is Form feed(\f) and Carriage return(\r)?
    Please explain to me.
    Thank you.

These control characters aren't used much these days except that if you example a Windows or MSDOS text file in a binary editor you'll find each line ends with "\r\n". However when reading or writing text through classes these carriage returns will be added and removed automatically so your program doesn't see them.
The controlls date back to teletype machines which operated rather like typewriters. Cariage return, as it's name implied, caused the print head to move back to the start of the line, line feed advanced a line (without, necessarilly, returning the carriage) and formfeed skipped to the next page.
Newline on these machines was always "return, linefeed" because executing the carriage return on these machine could take too long. The early machines had only a single character buffer so that they had to executed the characters as quickly as they arrived. So doing the linefeed after the carriage return gave the carriage more time to return. On some teletypes if you did "linefeed, return" then the first character of the new line would often be printed somewhere in the middle of the line.
This is the origin of the MSDOS/Windows end of line sequence.
Many printers will still respect formfeed if printing is direct. Some will take carriage return without linefeed to allow you to start again overprinting the same line.
However printing, these days, is seldom direct but done in bitmap form.

Dou you have a question ?
The character and string escape sequences allow for the representation of some nongraphic characters as well as the single quote, double quote, and backslash characters in character literals and string literals:'\b'     /* \u0008: backspace       */
    '\t'     /* \u0009: horizontal tab  */
    '\n'     /* \u000a: linefeed        */
    '\f'     /* \u000c: form feed       */
    '\r'     /* \u000d: carriage return */
    '\"'     /* \u0022: double quote    */
    '\''     /* \u0027: single quote    */
'\\'     /* \u005c: backslash       */In case you are using Java 1.5, you might be interested in System.out.printf(), which usesformat string.

  • How to hide the Form Feed char in JTextArea

We have reports (written in C) that are being displayed in a JTextArea.
In our old app, the Form Feed character (ASCII 12) was invisible naturally without having to code around it. In a JTextArea, it appears as a "[]" character. Does anyone know how to make this character invisible to the JTextArea? Removing it is not an option, as it is needed for it's print routine.
I've been searching these forums and the web all morning with no luck.

Not sure how the Form Feed character worksIt lets the printer know that a new page is to be started at that point.
Does it always appear with the New Line character?Usually but not always.
Thanks for the reply. It's more involved than just printing standard lines of text, so perhaps I should have been more clear.
The C report already has pagination built in from when it was run from our legacy GUI. In other words, each report knows how many chars wide and how many lines down each page will be. It is different for each report, but they all hover around 150 chars wide and 60 lines down per page, since they are all presented to the user (and printed) in landscape.
In the C code: at the end of each report line a "\n" is appended. At the end of each page, an ASCII 12 character is appended. A header is at the top of each page (different for each report, but usually 2 or 3 lines) that shows the page # and other info.
So, as you are viewing the report, you would see page 1 header, some report content, page 2 header, some more report content, page 3 header, etc. as you scroll down.
So now if you view it in Java: if the user wishes to print, the report is sent to our ReportPrinter class, who tokenizes the report based on "\f" and makes a ReportPage object (implements Printable) for each token. Each ReportPage is then appened to a java.awt.print.Book object, who in turn is sent to the PrinterJob.
Given that the report already has his pages figured out and has a form feed char at the end of each page, the report comes in to the JTextArea with [] chars preceding each page header (approximately every 60th line, depending on the report).
I tried using a JTextPane, but no luck. It was also much slower reading in the report. I just want the textpane to not display the non-printable characters ("\f" in this case).
