Question about SWT Login

Hi all i'm new to SWT and i was trying to create a login shell to log on to my main shell. My problem is i can't get the shell to read from oracle. The login information is stored in an Oracle database.
This is my method for capturing login infomation:
public static String getPass(String UserName, String Password){
try{
String login ="Log";
String nolog = "Invalid";
dbConn = db.getDBConnection();
Statement statement = dbConn.createStatement();
ResultSet rs=null;
String query = "Select * from administrator where adminName = '"+UserName+"' and      adminPassword = '"+Password+"'";
rs=statement.executeQuery(query);
int counter = 0;
while(rs.next())
counter++;
if(counter == 0)
return nolog;
else return login;
catch (Exception e){
return(e.toString());
Here is a code snippet from my main method:
btnLogin.addSelectionListener(new SelectionAdapter() {
public void widgetSelected (SelectionEvent e) {
String Username = txtUserName.getText();
String Password = txtPassword.getText();
String Check = getPass(Username, Password);
if(Check.length()<4){
                         shellMain.open();
     shellLogin.dispose();
                    else{
                         JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "Please enter correct username and password");
                         txtUserName.setText("");
                         txtPassword.setText("");
Basic the problem is with my if statement. If i say Check.length()>4 it always logs in and if i reverse it, it never logs in.
My database is working fine and is populated. My JDBC code is fine aswell.

Hey pj,
you can have as many accounts on your machine as you like and that seem fit to you.

PS: Man, I have to type faster as long as V.K. lurks around

  • General question about SWT in applet

    Hi all,
    I am absolutely new to SWT and wondering whether I should use it for my applet application. I am currently using SWING objects for my applet. Can I use SWT for applet, since SWT is not standard java objects? WIll there be any problem / drawbacks if this is used? Many thanks!

    The Terms of Use don't really allow folks to sell their services on this forum.
    Of course you could contact some of the top users off-line and ask about such a service.
    It wouldn't be cheap, and it most likely wouldn't be immediate since most of the top users work for a living.
    The beauty of this forum though is the kind and generous help you get for free from really bright professionals, and occasionally even the really dumb ones like myself.
    Go ahead and give it a shot if you like, the worst that could happen is all those you approach say "no".
    You will want to keep it clean from the forum though, and if you're looking for them to reach out to you then you will need to put your email address on your user profile. As of this post you do not have that information.

  • A question about JSF login

    Hi all!
    I am following this link (http://benjmaz.blogspot.com) for handling session in my application.
    I am unable to understand that what attributes and methods would be there in the MemberManager class, object of which we have created in LoginBean.java class, please give me some clue about this.
    Thanks in advance.

    How can i do if user close browser without logout? You pretty much can't do anything about that, and shouldn't. There is one thing you could do (but probably shouldn't), and that would be to include some javascript on your page to handle the "onExit" (or something like that - I don't know off the top of my head, but there is a way to trap navigating away from a page, which includes closing the browser) event to invoke whatever URL you want to, to tell it the person is "logging out".
    Other than that, you could rely on session timeouts, and handle the event on your server side which happens when the session expires.

  • Basic Questions about JSF, Login and Session

    Hi,
    I try to implement a login/logout function on my jsf-website. I create one <form> with Login and Pass to enter. My AuthenticBean(sessionbean) checks login and pass. If Login is "ok" the login and pass will set in the authenticBean (min. value of login and pass = 2).
    Now I check protected .jsf files (files who need a login) if in the AuthenticBean the login.equals("") or pass.equals(""). If so, the user is not logged in.
    Is this a safe method or should I choose a better way to have secure login/logout functions. Perhaps its better to create a userSessionBean after a succeful login and check it with HttpServletRequest rq.getSession().getAttribute(userSessionBean)?
    I am confused a little bit and I hope you'll help me:)
    Thnx Alex

    Implement a javax.servlet.Filter and indeed use the attributes of the HttpSession.

  • Question about ssh login warning: Bad protocol version identification

    I set up ssh on my computer according to Tim Haigh's suggestions given here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1674968&tstart=0
    But when I log in from my iPhone, secure.log shows this:
    sshd[534]: Bad protocol version identification 'GET / HTTP/1.1' from 208.54.83.51
    Although I do log in successfully, how can I resolve this error?

    GET / HTTP/1.1
    Looks more like a Web browser handshake, than ssh.

    Question about email setting: how  do i change the setting so i need to login to check my email. Currently it automatically come to the inbox without the need to log in.

    You don't. Email comes in either by push or when you invoke the email app. Ther is no password except when you first set up the account. If your iPad is not being used as your personal device and you need to shield emails from other users, then don't use the email app.  Instead, use web mail if available from your provider.

  • Basic questions about login

    I got 2 questions regarding to login,
    1. I'm on a 8i DB, when it is shutdown, I want to login again.
    for "sqlplus internal", it says connect to an idle DB.
    for "sqlplus sys/password", it says
    ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
    ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
    SVR4 Error: 2: No such file or director
    is this normal? I'm pretty sure my /etc/system is OK and the shutdowns are clean.

    2. For OS user authentication, I understand if the user is a DBA, I would put him in group "dba", then set remote_login_passwordfile=none.
    My question is: how about a regular user? OS authenticaion is only for DBA?
    I may just got myself confused, please give me a hint. thanks.

    I understand now. The problem was the syntax.
    I used
    sqlplus terry/pass as sysdba
    which should be
    sqlplus "..."
    and the second question is clear as well.
    Thanks,

  • Questions about ActiveX Bridge and SWT

    Hi !
    I found few weeks ago the www.reallyusefulcomputing.com site answering my question about Java & Macro of MSWord. Now I've found two steps that I am not able to overcome.
    First, when I build a simple application and I have internal libraries to use, am I compelled to place the jars in the lib/ext directory of the Java Runtime Directory? I have many difficulties in placing a convenient class-path in the manifest file. Why does the application ignore the manifest string?
    The second problem (and the biggest one) is that I am trying to build an SWT java-bean-application but I have problems during runtime. Is it possible to use this technology for my software or am I compelled to use AWT and SWING?
    I really hope you can help me.
    Thank you in advance.

  • A quick question about WebDynpro SLD and R/3 with concurrent users

    Hello ,
    I have a very quick question about Webdynpros and SLD connecting to an R/3 system, when you configure a webdynpro to connect to an R/3 system using SLD, you configure a user name and password from the R/3  for the SLD to use. What I would like to know is when I have concurrent users of my webdynpro, how can I know what one user did in R/3 and what another user did? Is there a way for the users of the web dynpro to use their R/3 credentials so SLD can access the R/3? Like dynamically configuring the SLD for each user?
    - I would like to avoid leaving their their passwords open in the code ( configuring two variable to get the users username and password and use these variables as JCO username and password )
    Thanks Ubergeeks,
    Guy

    Hi Guy
    You will have to use Single Sign On to achieve this. In the destination you have defined to connect to R/3 , there is an option to 'useSSO' instead of userid and password. This will ensure that calls to R/3 will be with the userid that has logged into WAS. You wont need to pass any passwords because  a login ticket is generated from WAS and passed on to R/3. The userid is derived from this ticket.
    For this to happen you will have to maintain a trust relation ship between R/3 and your WAS ,there is detailed documentation of this in help files. Configuration is very straight forward and is easy to perform

  • Basic questions about programing for J9 VM

    I need to create a java application to run on a Pocket PC 2003 OS and I'm limited to using IBM's Websphere J9 Virtual Machine. I'm new to using java in this capacity and therefore have lots of questions which I'm guessing are pretty basic. Despite my best efforts, I've found very little to help me online. Below are a couple questions I have that I'm hoping someone can help me with. Even better, if you know of any resources that could help me with these and other questions, I'd love to have them. Thanks in advance.
    1. I'm using standard AWT for the GUI but I'm having problems getting frames, dialogs, etc., to come up in anything less then full screen. setSize() and resize() have no effect, even if I extend the frame and override the setMinimumSize, setPreferredSize, setMaximumSize methods. What do I need to do to get a child window to appear in something less than full screen?
    2. I'd like to be able to add menu's to the buttom toolbar (with the keyboard) but have no idea how I would add something to it. Can someone point me in the right direction?
    3. When my application gets an iconified event I go ahead and call a System.exit() to exit the application. This doesn't kill the java VM though, which continues to run in the background (taking up plenty of memory). If I run my application using the J9w.exe so that it runs without the console, then not only does the VM continue to run, but I have no way to stop it (the running program list can't see it). Since each time I run my application it starts a new VM, it only takes a couple of times before I'm out of memory and have to do a soft reset of the PDA to make things right. Can I kill the VM when I kill my application?
    4. I learn best by looking at example code, but have been unable to find any code people are running on J9. I have the GolfScoreTracker installed and running on my PDA, but the jar file contains only the classes. Since it's supposed to be a demo, I had hoped that the source code would be included, is that hoping too much or is the source code available somewhere? In addition, if you know of any applications out there with available source code that are known to run well on a PocketPC J9 environment I'd appreciate the link.

    Hi there, I saw your questions, im currently developing a java pocket pc application as well and here's what i go so far:
    AWT seem to be hard to use on pocket pc, instead i recommend that you use SWT, which is a technology developed by eclipse. It's already installed on the eclipse plugins, you just need to download the jar and dll files for the pocket pc. They are available at: http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/index.php
    I assume that you already have the J9 working on your device. So you only need to copy the SWT.jar file and the swt-win32-3064.dll to the folder containing the .class files on your device.
    Now, on your java IDE(im using eclipse) Add the SWT.jar library to your project which should be on C:/eclipse/plugins/org.eclipse.swt.win32_3.0.2/ws/win32/swt.jar or something like taht depending on your eclipse root.
    Now you are ready to code some SWT, here is a sample program from Carolyn MacLeod, i modified a few things so it could run on the pocket pc but it's almost the same. Once you coded in eclipse run it, then copy the class file from your desktop to your device(There should be like 4 or 5 classes like sample.class, sample$1.class etc. copy all of them) where you put the jar and dll files(If program does not run you may try to rename the dll file for swt-win32-3050.dll instead of 3064.dll). Now after you have everything set up you need to create the lnk file in order to run the program. On your desktop create a new textfile and write the following on it:
    255#"\Archivos de Programa\J9\PPRO10\bin\j9w.exe" "-jcl:PPRO10" "-cp" "\My
    Documents\Java\swt.jar" ;\My Documents\Java" sample
    Paths depend on your install, and the place where you put your classes and jar file. path for j9w is usually "\Program Files\J9\PPRO10\bin\j9w.exe", and the last word should be the classname.
    Currently this form only displays an image on a canvas, click on the browse button and choose a pic and it will display on the canvas. Im trying to connect the form to an oracle database but no success yet on the device.
    Hope it helps, if you have any questions about the code or something, and I know the answer, please feel free to ask.
    See ya

  • Basic questions about JAAS capabilities

    I've never used JAAS for authentication or authorization in a Java app before. Can somebody that has (or at least has some experience and knowledge about JAAS) please answer the following couple of basic questions about it? (I know I could probably answer these myself with a few hours of reading.)
    1. Can I use JAAS to restrict the users that can execute specific methods of my code?
    2. If the answer to #1 is yes, is there a way to programmatically determine if a JAAS login user has the permissions to run a method before actually calling that method. In other words, can I ask something like canUserExecute(method) or do I have to just put the call to the method in a try/catch and catch a security exception of some type?
    3. Is it fairly simple to have JAAS authenticate against a Windows Domain or a LDAP server?
    4. Are there programmatic ways to add or edit user information in JAAS?
    Answer to any of these questions are greatly appreciated. I'll even toss a couple of Dukes to the people that answer each question. Thanks in advance.

    You might look at the AfterthoughtSoft-Secure product at http://www.advancedmodelingconcepts.com. It is designed to do just that and will easily allow you to connect to users/group repositories that are in anything from a simple text file all the way up to Kerberos V.
    You can contact the author of the product (me) at bart dot jenkins at gd-ais dot com.

  • Question about Single Sign On

    Hi Gurus!
    I have a question about the following scenario:
    The login in EP6 is with the NT User (adriano.oliveira), but to access the SAP applications I need to use another User (aoliveira - the size of the NT User is bigger than SAP User length).
    I know this works with user mapping, but the problem is that each user will need to configure his mapping (5000 users). Then I think the option is to use the SAP Logon tickets.
    My doubt is: Is it possible to validate a user id at login (in the EP6 SP10) and generate the client certificate with another user id???
    Important: In the AD (Active Directory), for each NT User id, there is a field with the SAP User id. I could use this field...
    Thanks for any help.
    Regards,
    Adriano

    Adrianao,

  • Questions about Access Manager tutorials available in netbeans site

    Hi
    Thank you for reading my post
    I have some questions about two tutoral which i find in :
    http://www.netbeans.org/kb/55/amsecurity.html and
    http://www.netbeans.org/kb/55/amsecurity-liberty.html
    here is my problem :
    we have some web services, now we want to have authentication applied for consumer who try to access our web services.
    we need to have most possible flexibility because we may deploy the server for a customer with an already established Identity database ( Database Table with user details)
    Also we need to have Transport level security using SSL.
    I read and studied both of them and now i have some questions :
    -I think Securing Web Services Using the SAML or UserNameToken is what we need for authentication and autorization of web service consumers?
    is that right?
    -Does Sun Java System Access Manager provide flexibility to authenticate user/password with a database table content?
    -How we can apply roles in Sun Java System Access Manager when we authenticate users ?
    Thanks

    Imagine that we want to have an end to end security for our web services
    we thought that we could use message level encryption to protect the soap message and also we should protect our web services from un-authenticated acess,
    we will use userName token for this.
    Our customer has large database which contains many user/password and role of those users.
    some of web services should be available to higher role (manager) and not for all users.
    so we should check a user role before we allows him/her to access a web service.
    my question is whether Sun Access manager can help us with this? or there are other configuration or packages that we should apply to have this feature.
    to explain more :
    our client side is a swing application, users enter username/password to login into system. after they loged in, we send user/pass every time user want to request some data from some services. (is it good to send user/pass every time?)
    We want Sun Access Manager to handle users authentication .
    We also need to handle role related authorization, can Sun access manager handle this?
    Thanks

  • Question about setting cookies and custom authentication

    I have a question about setting cookies.
    I have two different 'projects' in HTMLDB - we will call them App1 and App2.
    I also have two different connection configurations setup in the DADs.conf file. - we will call them Connect1 and Connect2.
    App1 is setup to use database authentication (no user is specified in the DAD) and uses Connect1. Once the user successfully logs in, we set a username cookie (this is a persistent connection).
    We created a custom authenticatoin scheme for App2 - this scheme checks for the username cookie (set by App1). We would like for App2 to use Connect2 (HTMLDB_PUBLIC_USER is the default user specified and it uses connection pooling).
    Is it possible to set a cookie from App1, Connect1 for App2, Connect2 - then redirect to App2 and pick up that cookie?
    Here is an example of what we are trying to accomplish:
    A user loggs into App1, we set a cookie, and the user is redirected to App2. If the cookie exists, we allow them access to the home page in App2, if no cookie, we redirect back to a 'Login Failed' page in App1. We don't want App2 to use the same database connection as App1 though, we need App2 to use connection pooling.
    Is this possible? OR...Is there a better way to accomplish what we want to do?
    This is an enhancement to an existing app. Our requirements are to use Database Authentication (setup where pass expires after 60 days or so, cannot reuse last 3 passwords, etc.) - which is already setup and being used by other applications in our organization. All of our users have accounts in the database. We don't want users to have a new username/pass - and we don't want to manage a separate group for HTMLDB apps.
    The existing application uses HTMLDB's built in authentication - which uses database username/pass, and it uses connection pooling, but we cannot handle the pass expire stuff in it, unless there's something we're not seeing or understanding - at least that's how our DBA explained it to us.
    Any help with this will be appreciated so much. I can send you the code we have if needed.
    Thanks!

    Same problem here.  I have so many problems with this remote app.  Is there an iTunes API? I would like to write my own remote app that actually works.
