Reapply oracle policy

We are using Oracle VPD security feature, recently we encountered some problems, in several of our clients's database (8.1.7.3), we found that the oracle policy was not reapplied after we changed vpd user in a jdbc thin connection, following is the scenario:
We have a policy, looks like follows
ploicy
if user is A, return predicate A
if user is B, return predicate B
(1)
build up a thin connection
set user to A
create a prepared statement of sql "select * from order"
query
close connection
in (1), we did find that policy was applied and the predicate A
was returned.
(2)
build up a thin connection
set user to B
create a prepated statement of sql "select * from order"
query
close
in (2), we got wrong result, because policy was not applied, it
still use predicate A.
Any comments?
Thanks

the key is how you answer the question " how do you set your user ".
if you set user B by logging into db as user B, then the situation you descripted sounds like a bug, if I understand it right.
if you set by changing some variables inside the session, since the VPD engine does not know when you switch user, you could get old policy predicate if you reexecute the cursor or use PLSQL to rerun your static sql.
My suggestion is try out 9i that auto-reexecute the policy function.

  • How to install Oracle Policy Manager?

    Hi,
I'm trying to install Oracle Policy Manager on a server w/Oracle.
I already have Oracle DB & Client 10gR2 installed and configured, and all is working fine.
I've read that to install Policy Manager, I have to install it from the Client CD. When I did the initial install, I chose 'Administrator' install.
I ran the installer again and chose 'Custom' but didn't see anything that related to Policy Manager.
    Where can I find this?
    Thanks,
    Nora

    Hi
OPM, oracle policy manager, is installed with the old enterprise manager.
OPM is to manage VPD, virtuell private database and label security.
Label Security is an extra Option.

    Policy Automation: The New Paradigm
Please join Oracle, Exeter Group, and our Customer the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles
State and Local government is challenged to implement and automate complex, rapidly changing policies as well as to provide consistent advice to citizens across multiple service delivery channels. In response to this challenge, government agencies are embracing a new approach, which takes complex statutes, regulations and policy documentation and very rapidly converts them to decision automation systems.
This session will include a discussion of the challenges faced by government agencies in implementing complex and rapidly changing policies and how the Oracle solution can help. We will also have a special government guest speaker from the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles who will discuss their implementation of this solution. This will be followed by a demonstration.
    Best,

You should probably contact RightNow to see if they have the ability to authenticate remotely (something like an LDAP interface). I know thatRightNow sites have a Web Service with the ability to send user name/password to that webservice. Although its not designed primarily as an authentication tool, it might suit your purpose.

  • Oracle Policy Automation 10.2.0

Oracle Policy Automation 10.2.0 is now available via Oracle E-Delivery (http://edelivery.oracle.com/)
This release includes updated media packs for Oracle Policy Modeling and the Oracle Policy Automation runtime for both Java and Microsoft .NET Framework. The updated media pack for Oracle Policy Automation Connector for Siebel 10.2.0 will be available at a later date.
    This release includes:
    * Translation Support - Excel spreadsheets that contain all the translatable parts of a rulebase, that are updated with the new strings to be translated when you modify attributes, rules or screens.
    * Entity Containment - New hierarchical data model that simplifies data collection, debugging, and rule authoring when using relationships.
    * Pluggable Determinations Server - New extensibility model for Determinations server that allows you to do pre- or post-processing of incoming data, or do as needed retrieval of data from an external data source, for example.
    * Interview Web Service - Create fully customized stateful interview experiences in your GUI technology of choice
    * Interview Screen Preview - Preview interview screens without having to go through the entire interview
    * Flexible Interviews - Entity-level goals on the summary screen, more control over labels used for entity collection, and more
    * "Not Currently Known" operator allows a rule to work out if a question has been asked.
    * Additional string functions - as requested by users
    * Entity Equality - ability to write rules that compare one entity instance with all the other instances in a collection
    * Revised look and feel for Word/Excel 2007 (also applies to Word/Excel 2010)
    * New Parsers and Improved Right-to-Left support: Arabic, Hebrew, Turkish, German, Finnish, Chinese (Traditional)
    * Native Subversion Support: Check files in and out directly from an Apache Subversion repository without a MSSCCAPI connector, and see differences using Word's track changes feature
    * Custom Function Enhancements: Support for temporal values and improved natural language syntax.
    * Support for self-referential rules, e.g. the person's tax payable = the person's tax payable for the current tax year + for (the prior tax year, the person's tax payable)
    * Greater Platform Support: Windows 7 x64, Microsoft Office 2010, .NET Framework 4.0, Oracle VM, Microsoft Visual Studio Team Server 2010
    * Enhanced Upgrade wizard: The entity containment and interview screen changes require all existing rulebase projects to be upgraded to the new data model structure.
Please read the release notes, installation guide and security guide included in each media pack for more details.
The release build number is 10.2.0.110.0

    1. In the current version, OPM doesn't directly deploy to anything other than local TomCat. You'll need to manually refresh your WebLogic environment with the latest rulebase.
    2. I'm not aware of an ADF sample. I assume your goal is to host Web Determinations interviews in an ADF UI?
    3. You should use OPA instead of OBR if you need any of the following:
    a) Rules in natural language in any of the supported OPA languages (English, Chinese, French, Spanish, Portuguese, etc....)
    b) Rules in Word/Excel document format that can be easily shared with business users
    c) Interactive interviews for guided decision making, where questions can be automatically generated from rules, and screens are shown only as needed to make progress towards an answer
    d) Detailed decision reports of which rules and data were used to reach a decision
    e) Productized integration with Siebel or SAP
    f) Rich test case development and regression testing capabilities
More generally OPA is very good at determinations. I.e. reaching the one right decision given a set of input data. It is not a good fit for optimization problems where the goal is to seek the best outcome given a series of constraints. It is also good at taking a large set of law/policy documents are managing them as interconnected rules. It is possible to efficiently manage thousands of pages of material as an OPM project.
For ADF development, anywhere you have a process that involves a complex decision step, or a calculation that depends on complicated rules that may change frequently or need good business visibility, OPA is a good choice.

  • Cannot find add-in '...\templates\Oracle Policy Modeling Excel 2010.xlam'

Quick little pointer to anyone who comes across this issue like I did. I went from using the 10.4.2 version of OPM to the Cloud edition and during the process moved the installation directory. After this time I started receiving the following message every time Excel opened:
Cannot find add-in 'path to OPA\templates\Oracle Policy Modeling Excel 2010.xlam'
To fix this you have delete the existing Add-In from Excel and add the new one:
Open Excel and go File > Options > Add-Ins
In the Active Application Add-ins list I could see the Oracle Policy Modeling one at the top with the incorrect path
At the Manage dropdown at the bottom, choose Excel Add-ins and then click Go...
In the dialog, click Oracle Policy Modeling Excel 2010 and then Browse...
Locate the new installation of OPA and go to the templates directory
Select the Oracle Policy Modeling Excel 2010.xlam file and click OK. Click OK again on the Add-Ins dialog.

Thanks Ross - I have logged this for internal investigation.

  • Announcing New! Oracle Policy Automation Connector for Oracle CRM on Demand

    Hi all,
We are very pleased to announce the immediate availability of the new OPA connector for Oracle CRM on Demand. You can find more information and the link to download this connector on the OPA pages on OTN here:
    http://www-content.oracle.com/technetwork/apps-tech/policy-automation/overview/index.html.
Feel free to post to this forum with questions or comments on this new connector. We welcome your feedback.
    Kind regards,
    Davin Fifield
    VP Product Development, OPA

    1. Oracle Policy Automation Connector for Siebel v10.2 requires rulebases to be created with Oracle Policy Modeling 10.2.
    2. Siebel and OPA are separate applications with their own system requirements. There is no need for them to be deployed on the same operating systems / application servers.
    3. The siebel-data-adapter.properties file is found in, for example, the siebel-wd-embedded.war files (for Java) in the location described in the documentation, and in the corresponding .zip files (for .NET).
Note that Oracle Policy Automation Connector for Siebel v10.3 is planned to be available on E-Delivery within a few weeks.
    Davin.

  • How to install Oracle Policy Automation in Oracle Application Server?

We are planning to use OPA with Oracle Ebusiness Suite Release 12.1. We are running Oracle Application Server 11g. We want to deploy the Oracle Policy Automation components in same application server as Oracle Ebusiness Suite.
    (a) How to install Oracle Determinations Engine, Oracle Web Determinations and Oracle Determinations Server on Oracle Application Server? The installation document for OPA doesnt have steps for Oracle Application Server.
    (b) Which one is better, to deploy OPA in separate server or in same server as Oracle Ebusiness Suite?
    (c) How to decide whether to use Java API's using Determination Engine or web services using Determination Server or UI of Web Determinations for our project? Or what factors should we consider?
    Thanks for the help.
    -- Sreeram.H

    (a) You should install the war files for Oracle Determination Server and Oracle Web Determinations as per normal war deployment - there's no special steps required, which is why it is not listed explicitly. There's no reason to deploy Oracle Determinations Engine itself to a web application server.
    (b) "Better" tends to be more a subjective viewpoint, but if you already deploy all your web services on the same server as Oracle E-Business Suite then you should go the same for OPA. Same story for separate server deployment.
    (c) Can't answer that without knowing why you are using OPA! If you are looking to integrate with Oracle E-Business Suite then Oracle Determinations Server would be the sensible choice. Web Determinations is most useful if you want a sensible way to collect or review the relevant assessment data for determinations, as well as for "self service" scenarios. Determinations Engine should be used if you have a completely bespoke integration scenario that can't make use of web services or web applications - but I can't think of a scenario where this would make sense if you are using Oracle E-Business Suite.
Of course, these are just my views - others may feel more strongly one way or the other!
