[solved][kernel 2.6.16.14-1] don't even see error messages

right before relocating with my laptop i thought it'd be a good idea to do one last update. I updated to kernel 26.16.14-1 (the one the mainpage says to avoid) and turned of the computer. Now when it starts up, i see no errors. it just goes from grub to black and then to the ibm thinkpad turn on screen thing.
so now in knoppix i explictly mount root
mount /dev/hda3 /mnt/hda3 -o rw
after trying to update and seeing all the /dev/null permission dienied errors
and chroot into /mnt/hda3, for good messure su into root, and update to the fixed kernel
chroot /mnt/hda3
su root
pacman -Syu
all seems to go well so i reboot. No luck.
i repeat the same, but instead revert to the last kernel i had working
pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/kernel26-2.6.16.12-1.pkg.tar.gz
reboot.
still i don't see any text, just grub->black->start up screen
the little green light seems to show the computer was trying for the few seconds of nothing but black.
did anyone recover from updating to this kernel?
(did i miss a post somewhere about how to recover from a bad kernel?)

could i have broken something else that would cause no warnings or errors before reboot

the problem was how i tried to update/revert the kernel.
pacman placed the kernel files in /boot on /dev/hda3, however /boot is a mount point for the other partition(hda1). To fix this, i need to mount both partitions and move files from /boot on hda3 to hda1

All devices only sync what you select to sync.
If you do not want all of the music, then simply do not select all of the music to sync.

did you just upgrade from an Aperture 3.2.x version to Aperture 3.3.1? This error message usually occures after the upgrade to 3.3.1, when Aperture cannont convert the library format to 3.3. format.
I'd try to repair the Aperture Library (Mediathek), before upgrading it. Hold down the option-command key combination (⌥⌘) while double-clicking Aperture. This will bring the "Aperture Library First Aid Tools" panel forward. Select "Rebuild Database" and see, if it will resolve the the problem.

Since upgrading to 10.6 I can't log on to the store. I don't get any error messages, it just doesn't log on.
Password etc is right and I can access the internet Ok just not iTunes.
I have tried downgrading to a previous version of iTunes but then can't use iTunes as I get a message saying the "library is not accesible because it was created
in a newer version of iTunes"
I have tried disabling Firewalls and AVG Antivirus without any success.

Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

Photo Stream does not do videos. For videos, you must import to your computer. You can use iPhoto to import them.

I don't get an error message when Nightly crashes.

Recently my browser has been crashing a lot, but I don't get any error reports or anything that asks me to send a report to Mozilla.
I use Nightly (64-bit) and I update automatically (currently 24.0a1). My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit). Telemetry, Nightly Health Report, and Crash Reporter are enabled. The last update was 2 hours before and the one before that was 2 days before. As of the last update, the crashing has stopped.
My concern is that there were at least 6 crashes recorded in the Reliability Monitor in the Control Panel within that time frame, but when I checked the AppData, there was only 1 submitted crash report, and no pending for that time frame. Should I be worried? Am I still sending in information?

I have a huge problem with nightly!! the problem is I can not remove it from my computer, every thing i did with it was very wavy and I was unable to see any thing single, every thing showed up more than 10Xs on every page, I tried to remove nightly and it refuses to be removed, I waited up to 3 hours for it to be removed and it is still on my computer, please help thanks from me.

I think in the circumstances, an uninstall/reinstall is called for. Please follow these instructions.

Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to '''Mozilla Firefox '''and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (don't checkmark the box).
Then reboot and delete the folder called '''Mozilla Firefox '''at this location: ''C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox''
Finally run the installation file you downloaded to the desktop earlier.
Your bookmarks, customizations etc., are maintained in a different location and will become available to you again once you complete the installation.

I found a workaround, but please don't ask me why it works ;-)
1) Install this addon: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/remote-xul-manager/
2) Open the config dialog of the addon (via Firefox->Web Developer->Remote XUL Manager or Tools->Web Developer->Remote XUL Manager)
3) Press "Add" and enter the address of the broken LN-Webpage (webmail07.un.org in this case)
4) Open the webpage and it should work fine!
For german users, the interface terms are different: Tools = Extras; Web Developer = Web Entwickler; Remote XUL Manager = nicht-natives XUL verwenden

If you want to drag and drop then you would have to select Manually Manage Music.
Otherwise, just sync your music.

Use the same Apple ID on both devices.
You do it via computer iTunes: use Transfer Purchases with you iPhone connect to computer iTunes to transfer purchased items to iTunes, then connect iPod to computer, select the songs and sync with your iPod.
