Sort artists with numbers as their names first

Not to long ago, iTunes used to sort artists that had numbers in their names (311, 2pac, 50 cent)
first on the list, which i loved because numbers should always come before letters, but in the recent updates with itunes, numbers are now last after the Z's
Can someone give me a solution for this? a registry key or something maybe?

I did a litle cheat. I have some artists that I WANT to list at the top and before I did the
1. [artist name]
2. [artist2 name]
But since they decided to list these at the bottom (stupid decision), I mass updated the info on each artist to start with a.1, a.2, a.3, etc. This now lists the artists at the top in the order I want them in. A very nice easy workaround. No telling what Apple will do down the road, it's obvious they think #'s should be after letters. Contrarian company, I swear.

  • Alphabetical Artist listing of artists with 'The' in their name

Previously my nano would ignore the 'the' in artist names such as 'The Used' and 'The Hush Sound', ordering them by the second word. However, when I started using my ipod today, it no longer ignores the 'The' and has collected all artists whose names start with 'The' in 'T'.
Is there a way to change this so the ipod ignores the 'The' in artist names like it used to only a few days ago (and like most alphabetised systems do)?

im trying to search my settings.... mine is sorting the way it should be excluding 'the' from the titles when sorting...

  • IWeb and uploading jpegs with spaces in their names

I have created a site with about 100 jpegs that I wish to load up to a server other than ".Mac". Some jpegs have spaces in their names, so "Fetch" will not upload them. I deleted the spaces from their names and loaded the jpegs back into the site and saved and published to a folder. However, the resulting "Site"folder shows the jpegs still have spaces in their names, even though I removed them from the name of the jpeg. IWeb must be getting the name from some internal tag or something. For example, I had a jpeg called "Billie Holiday.jpg" I changed the name to "BillieH.jpg", but when I publish the site to a folder, the jpeg still shows up as "Billie Holiday.jpg" and therefore I cant upload it using "Fetch". Where is iWeb getting the names of the jpegs from, and how do I remove the spaces? Or, does anybody know of an application that can upload files (ftp) with spaces in their names?
    Thanks,
    Mitch

    However, the resulting

their names, even though I removed them from the name
    of the jpeg.
Very strange. You might try renaming the site with Inspector to something else than Site and republishing, to guarantee you have a totally new set of files.
    Or, does
anybody know of an application that can upload files
(ftp) with spaces in their names?
It's not the ftp program. You can't have spaces in file names on most web servers, they won't accept the files.

  • Artists with numbers at front of name not appearing at top of library list

When i transfered my iTunes library from an external hard drive to my new iMac, artists whose names begin with a number, i.e. 2 Live Crew, .38 Special etc., no longer appeared at the top of the list of artists in the music library. They did before on my previous iMac. They would appear alphabetically as to where they would be if the numbers were spelled out instead. Any ideas how to change them back?

If you Get Info on any song, you'll see a Sorting pane. That will permit you to tell iTunes how to alphabetize the track. If the Artist field is "2 Live Crew", you might enter "AA 2 Live Crew" to sort it with the AA's — i.e., at the beginning of your library. You can then control-click the track and use "Apply Sort Fields..." to copy the sorting data to all other tracks by that artist.

  • ITunes 12 - Sort album with numbers in title by natural order

    Hi All
Searched but cannot find a solution to this.
Now I've got iTunes 12, I noticed that when I added a new album titled "Triple J Like A Version 10", it sorts this album at the beginning of the sequential list of albums. i.e.:
    Triple J Like A Version
    Triple J Like A Version 10
    Triple J Like A Version 2
    Triple J Like A Version 3
    etc
It should appear after Triple J Like A Version 9.
My other albums added on earlier versions of iTunes are fine. For example Triple J Hottest 100 Volume 10 comes after 9 & before 11 where it should be; Volume 20 comes after 19 & before 21.
Is there any way to change the sort order to sort numbers in their natural order?
    Thanks
    Craig

Pad out the sort values with leading zeros so the sort names become:
    Triple J Like A Version 02
    Triple J Like A Version 03
    Triple J Like A Version 09
    Triple J Like A Version 10
    tt2

  • [iOS] Sort Artists with the prefix "The" based on the 2nd word in app

This is something that drives me nuts, especially since it's done correctly on the desktop app.  Why are The Strokes sorted under the "S" category but under the "T" section in the app?  It's especially a hassel for bands like The Cribs who would be significantly higher on the list if the sorting was consistant.  This is a small, almost common sense change that I think Spotify should make.

  • Multiple artists, with the same exact name

Ok I added Chevelle's two CDs to my iPod the other day. I am an organized freak so all of my artists names are spelled the exact way, all the albums are under their artists, songs are in order, all album artwork for everything, you get the point. Well I download the CDs, organize all the info like usual, get it right, then put it on my iPod. Seemed like a routine addition.
Well, I go to my iPod after disconnecting it and I go to Artists - Chevelle is listed THREE times, everything spelled the same, same way, nothing different. In all 3 of those are the two albums and all their songs, identical. I plug up the iPod again, delete the songs from it and my iTunes, re-add them. Chevelle is still listed 3 times...I did the procedure again, same thing happening.
So, I restored my iPod and put all of my music back on there. What do you know, Chevelle is still listed 3 times for no apparent reason.
How do I fix this to where there is only one listing under my Artists?

Even though the spelling may look the same, an extra space that you might not notice can make a difference. I have found instances where the spacebar has created extra stop at the end of the line. The quickest way is to sort your iTunes library by artist to bring your tracks together. Click on the first track by your artist, hold down the shift key and click on the last track in the list, this will highlight all in between. Right click on the list and choose Get Info, you get a dialogue box asking if you want to update multiple items, click Yes and then the Info tab. Overtype the artist name then click ok and this will ensure the whole selection is identical. Once you've done this connect and sync your iPod so it can pick up the change.

  • ITunes 11... I have multiple artists with the same album name... how do i have them show up as separate albums?

I have itunes 11 with iTunes Match on 2 Macs and 2 ios devices... I know it all has bugs... but I have been ok.
I am wondering how to show my library in the column browser view when I have multiple albums with the same names? I have noticed on my ipod in my car that an album titled "Christmas" plays and includes 2 different albums titled christmas... and in itunes it lists them both when not in the artwork view... (I primarily use the column browser to navigate my library.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this/knows how to fix.
    Thanks!

Various workarounds I can think of which basically involve playing around with tags.  See which meets your needs or come up with others:
Give the albums slightly different names.  For example, "Greatest Hits" [ABBA]"
Do the same but do it in the sort album field.
Add a bogus disc number to different albums.  It may string them together still but at least they will be slightly grouped.

  • How do I change my citations to use brackets with numbers instead of names, years?

I created many citations and added bibliography at the end of a large document in MS Word 10 (docx format). Bibliography looks good, but everything else is not.
When I click on citations, they don't go to the bibliography. Instead, they turn into fields with a pull down error that has 4 options: Edit Citation, Edit Source, Convert citation to static text, Update Citations in Bibliography. I really don't want to
see any of that. All I want it to click on my citation and it should take me to bibliography to that reference document. How do I do this?
I also need to turn all those citations into numbers in brackets and create links to bibliography. How do I do this?
I have never worked with Refrences, so I please use plain language.

    Hi,
To my knowledge, this is how Citations & Bibliography feature works in word. We are not able to make it work in that way.
To achieve what you prefer, I would suggest you to use bookmarks
    instead of citations:

  • Mplayer can't play files with spaces in their name

After scratching my head and reinstalling codecs several times without luck, and old memory resurfaced of this occuring before and I managed to solve the problem.
The thing is that if you doubleclick a file in Nautilus, and said files has spaces in its name, mplayer won't be able to play it, and gives a very cryptic error message, ie "cannot play file a%20b.avi" if the name of the file is "a b.avi".
The trick is mentioned in this thread -- you edit /usr/share/applications/mplayer.desktop and change 'Exec=gmplayer %U' to 'Exec=gmplayer %F'.
The bug has been around forever, and hasn't been fixed yet. Perhaps the mplayer devs don't want to fix it. In any case, I would propose that either we fix this in the mplayer Arch package, or that someone more knowledgeable than I get in touch with the devs about it.
Just a suggestion, but I think it's kind of important. It's really confusing to new users.

In my opinion, it it's not arch's job to fix bugs from upstream, no matter if it's mplayer or gnome's fault. Of course there are exceptions, eg if a bug in a critical package hardlocks the whole system, or adds a huge security risk.
I would like to belive that the general arch user is smart enough to find one of the 30 threads about this bug (or the entry on the bugtracker) and fix it themselves. Personaly I would put this in the same category as packages that don't have a .desktop file at all from upstream.

  • I just updated my iPhone 4 to version 5.0.1, and although my contacts all appear to be still there, it's coming up with numbers rather than names in my messages. What can I do to fix this?

I haven't changed any settings, I pressed merge with Icloud was that incorrect? Please help!

If you made a backup in iTunes before upgrading you can access the data with iPhone / iPod Touch Backup Extractor.
Can be downloaded from here: http://supercrazyawesome.com/
This helped me getting my Notes back after the upgrade to iOS 5.

  • Problem Sorting on Artist Name with numbers in title

I just upgraded to iTunes 7.7 and when I sort by artist, all the artists with numbers in their name (3 doors down, 10,000 Maniacs) appear after the "Z's" at the very end of my library, I want them before the "A's" as the first block of songs in my library, can't firgure out how to do that, it was always that way in my previous iTune versions, but with the upgrade it changed by itself
Can anyone help, I am sure this should be easy as I never had to do anything before to get this sorting behavior

This was changed in version 7.3.

  • Sorting artist names different with English and German iTunes

I just got a iPod and theres only one thing that bothers me. I used to use OS X with English language and then artists are sortet after the name, ignoring the "the" in many names ("the Beatles" sorted under "B"). I recently switched the laguage to German and then all the artist with "the" in the name (like "the Beatles" ) are sorted under "T" in iTunes and on my iPod. Is is possible to change this? I want to use german language on my Mac, but I still want the artists names sorted like they used to be.
    I´m using iTunes 7.0.2 and OS X 1.4.3.

You will want to refer to this article in the Apple Knowledge Base which explains the new sorting rules that have been introduced in recent versions of iTunes.
To workaround it, you will have to make use of the also recently introduced Sorting tab that is described at the bottom of the above-referenced article.
You can get "The Who" sorted as "Who" by entering Who in the Artist Sort field.
Information you enter in the Sort fields will not change what is displayed for those items, only how it is sorted.

  • Numbers instead of name in display?

I moved all data from my contact list to the new 4s. Since then every contacts first number is showed with name when they call me but the second number is shown with numbers instead of name?

Verizon? Dial *228 and reactivate. This has been known to work. If it is for another wireless carrier, you will need to call them and get their reactivation sequence.
