Trailing null missing -- no clue

Hi all,
(linux/glibc2.24(?)/gcc2.96/oracle9.2.0.3/pthread)
Myapp runs as a server(C code, uses oracle call interface internally). It is launched via a shell scripts like below by user -- staffme:
#start
WORKING_DIR=/opt/appserver
cd $WORKING_DIR
./myapp
#EOF
It always gets an err (ORA-01480: trailing null missing from STR bind value)on a CERTAIN function call(other funcations which have different sql stmt,
bind params work just fine) under this dir(/opt/appserver/). If I copy everything of this dir into /home/staffme/test/, the only exception is a
core file(which is big, owned by root, can't read), and change WORKING_DIR to /home/staffme/test, it works just fine with same input.
All files the app needs are in above dir. The shell script does NOT change any variables' value based on differnt dir.
Thanks for any help!

If you get an OCI error when simply updating a record in PL/SQL Developer, it sounds like a PL/SQL Developer issue, although not one I've come across. You might try Allround Automations tech support. They'll need your exact versions of Oracle server, Oracle client and PL/SQL Developer.
SQL*Plus is part of the Oracle Client software so you should have it somewhere, or you can download it free.

  • ORA-01480: trailing null missing from STR bind value

    I always end up with this error in a very irregular scenarios.
    When I set the NLS Date format in any of the functions in my program, it goes fine.
    Can anyone suggest me to set the NLS Date format globally.

    Set it in initialisation parameter file or spfile (you can use alter system set). Or set it on the environment variable of OS for all users (or the user).

  • How to handle trailing Null columns in a Batch file when ESB reads the file

    Dear All,
    How can I handle trailing Null columns in a batch file (csv file) that is been used by an ESB FTP adapter for batch file processing.
    Since ESB is some times taking up the whole next record as the last column data..
    Please update
    many thanks...

    If your file is not designed to be amazingly large, then you don't need to use a temporary file -- you can just read the data into memory and manipulate it there. (Like, into a Document object or something.)
    But if you are dealing with really large files, you might want to consider using a database back end instead of a text file, which is a completely different approach I know but... well, that's why databases were invented.

  • SOAP.streamEncode loses trailing nulls

    I am trying to base64 encode data for a web service call using the SOAP.streamEncode method but am losing any trailing characters.
    The following code, that encodes a string and then decodes the stream shows the problem I am having;
    >var string2 = new String("\xF4\x09\xB2\x0q\x00\x00\x00\x00");
    var encode2 = SOAP.streamEncode(SOAP.streamFromString(string2), "base64");
    var decode2 = SOAP.streamDecode(SOAP.streamEncode(SOAP.streamFromString(string2), "base64"), "base64");
    console.println("string2.length " + string2.length);
    console.println("string2 " + string2.toSource());
    var encode2String = SOAP.stringFromStream(encode2);
    console.println("encode2.length " + encode2String.length);
    console.println("encode2 " + encode2String);
    var decode2String = SOAP.stringFromStream(decode2);
    console.println("decode2.length " + decode2String.length);
    console.println("decode2 " + decode2String.toSource());
    This displays the following on the console;
    >string2.length 10
    string2 (new String("\xF4\t\xB2x0q\x00\x00\x00\x00"))
    encode2.length 8
    encode2 9AmyeDBx
    decode2.length 6
    decode2 (new String("\xF4\t\xB2x0q"))
    The last line should have returned the same string as I started with.
    Has anyone else encountered this problem and found a workaround?
    My initial aim was to submit attached documents to my web service. These are generally Word documents which appear to always contain trailing spaces. I know I could use hex encoding (and am currently doing this) but hex encoding doubles the size of attachment and I am getting complaints about the response times

    Having played with this problem some more it seems the SOAP.stringFromStream function stops when it encounters the first null character (as PDL mentioned above, though JavaScript handles nulls as the length of string2 in the example above is 10). This also seems to be the case when using a ReadStream object as a parameter to a web service call or when using Message Transmission Optimization Mechanism (MTOM), which I assume use the same function.
    I have written my own Base64 encoding but have not yet worked out if the time taken is worth saving the 33% of the transmission size.
    If anyone is interested;
    var base64chars = 'ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789+/'.split("");
    function EncodeHexString(hexString)
    var result = "";
    var padding = "";
    for (i = (hexString.length * 2) % 3; i > 0 && i < 3; i++)
    padding += '=';
    hexString += "00";
    for (i = 0; i < hexString.length; i += 6)
    var n = (parseInt(hexString.substring(i, i+2), 16) << 16) + (parseInt(hexString.substring(i+2, i+4), 16) << 8 ) + (parseInt(hexString.substring(i+4, i+6), 16));
    result += base64chars[(n >>> 18) & 63] + base64chars[(n >>> 12) & 63] + base64chars[(n >>> 6) & 63] + base64chars[n & 63];
    return result.substring(0, result.length - padding.length) + padding;
    This takes the hex string that you would get from a call to SOAP.streamEncode, e.g.
    >SOAP.stringFromStream(SOAP.streamEncode(pdf.getDataObjectContents("file"), "hex"))

  • Pshop Clone Tool - Trailing Cursor missing?

    I could have sworn... that when I used the Photoshop Clone Stamp Tool, I used to have a second "trailing" cursor.
    What I mean is, once I'd chosen my source point (opt/click) and began dragging in the new area, I'd have usual the circle brush showing the new pixels as I clone, plus, as I paint, I'd have a second "source" cursor following the cloning cursor in perfect alignment.  By watching the source/trailing cursor, I'd know when to stop dragging the clone brush to avoid cloning a new part of the image that I didn't want.
    The second/trailing cursor has disappeared; it's been gone for a while now. I've futzed with settings in the Clone Source palette and resetting the tool to no avail. Using Photoshop CS5 12.0.4 on Mac 10.6.8 iMac with standard bluetooth mouse.  Thanks...

    So, you do not see the cross-hair source cursor?
    Sometimes, especially if the source is a solid, mid-value color, it can be near impossible to see.
    Try resetting PS preferences by holding down Shift+Opt+Command AS you launch Photoshop. You'll get a small dialog to ok resetting the preferences to confirm you did it right.

    Hi MarcoFilipe
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!!
    can someone help?I did a Google search on "athbmissproc: beacon miss" and it would appear this is a problem with MacBook WiFi. It is also a problem reported in FreeBSD, where there are reported workarounds (in code) for phantom interrupts causing this problem. I don't know there is much you can do about it until Apple releases a fix.
    Not having wireless on my machine means I can't investigate further, but I'll see if I can find someone who can.

  • Need help in Customizing Workspace

    Hello All,
    I am customizing the flex based ES4 workspace. I was able to follow all the instructions in the Adobe provided document for Customization.
    I am using Flash Builder 4.5 and the SDK which comes with the Livecycle ES4 installation. I was able to import the adobe-workspace-src.zip file and extract the contents and create a new project in flash builder.
    I am facing few problems when I try to build the workspace-ui project using ANT.
    1)  unable to open 'C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.6\sdks\4.5.1.lc/frameworks/libs/datavisualization.swc'
    When I checked in the folder, I saw that swc file does not exist at all. Do I need to download the file? Or how do I fix this issue.
    2) The style 'backgroundAlpha' is only supported by type 'mx.controls.TextArea' with the theme(s) 'halo'.
    I am getting this error in Reconnect.mxml file and I googled for the possible reason for this error but no luck. Can any one let me know how to fix this?
    3) unable to open 'C:\Adobe\Workspace_Code\Workspace\foundation\bin\foundation.swc'
    Same as the first point, It doesn't exist at all in the folder. Do I need to download the file? Or how do I fix this issue.
    Any inputs on these are highly appreciated!
    Thanks.

  • Need Help in customizing hap_document to suit ess requirement

    We are using Version ECC 5.0 extension set 1.10.
    First Requirement.
    Our requirement is once the document is created by hr for an employee X in R3 where his manager is Y and his manager’s manager is Z. Now the document must be available for all three people but the difference is for employee X the button send to manager has to enabled, where as for the manager Y and Managers Manager Z it should be disabled.
    Right now the document is available for all three people X Y Z, but for all three the button send to manager’s approval is disabled, whereas it has to be enabled for employee X.
    Please suggest me where I have to write the code for enabling of that button when the logged in person is employee.
    Second Requirement
    This is similar to first requirement that is when the employee presses the button send to manager it will be available to manager Y in change mode, where he can write his comment and then send it to his manager by clicking on the button send to second level manager, now the document has to be available for manager Z with button send to hr enabled.
    Now the problem is when it goes to managers manager the button send to HR is disabled whereas it has to be enabled.
    since this is the first time I am working on BSP I am not sure where they are enabling and disabling the button based on users logon and where exactly I have write the code.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Jeny.

  • Need Help: Using Ref Cursor in ProC to call a function within a Package

    I'm calling a function within a package that is returning a REF CURSOR.
    As per the Oracle Pro*C Programmer's Guide, I did the following:
    1) declared my cursor with a: EXEC SQL BEGIN DECLARE SECTION and declared the cursor as: SQL_CURSOR my_cursor;
    2) I allocated the cursor as: EXEC SQL ALLOCATE :my_cursor;
    3) Via a EXEC SQL.....END-EXEC begin block
    I called the package function and assign the return value to my cursor
    e.g. my_cursor := package.function(:host1, :host2);
    Now, the only difference between my code and the example given in the Pro*C Programmer's Guide is that the example calls a PROCEDURE within a package that passes back the REF CURSOR as an OUT host variable.
    Whereas, since I am calling a function, the function ASSIGNS the return REF CURSOR in the return value.
    If I say my_cursor := package.function(:host1, :host2); I get a message stating, "PLS-00201: identifier MY_CURSOR" must be declared"
    If I say :my_cursor := package.function(:host1, :host2); I get a message stating, "ORA-01480: trailing null missing from STR bind value"
    I just want to call a package function and assign the return value to a REF CURSOR variable. There must be a way of doing this. I can do this easily in standard PL/SQL. How can this be done in Pro*C ???
    Thanks for any help.

    Folks, I figured it out. For those who may face this problem in the future you may want to take note for future reference.
    Oracle does not allow you to assign the return value of a REF CURSOR from a FUNCTION ( not Procedure - - there is a difference) directly to a host variable. This is the case even if that host variable is declared a CURSOR variable.
    The trick is as follows: Declare the REF CURSOR within the PL/SQL BEGIN Block, using the TYPE statement, that will contain the call to the package function. On the call, you then assign the return REF CURSOR value that the function is returning to your REF CURSOR variable declared in the DECLARE section of the EXEC SQL .... END-EXEC PL/SQL Block.
    THEN, assign the REF CURSOR variable that was populated from the function call to your HOST cursor varaible. Then fetch this HOST Cursor variable into your Host record structure variable. Then you can deference individual fields as need be within your C or C++ code.
    I hope this will help someone facing a deadline crunch. Happy computing !

  • CUP Request Audit Trail missing info about Mitigations & Risks

    Hi  All,
    We use  SAP GRC CUP 5.3 SP8 Patch 1.
    When provisioning an SAP account through the GRC solution, we notice that the Audit trail is missing any details about the risks &  mitigations that are applied to the request. Ideally we need to track the user who applied the mitigation and the time stamp for the action. We can see the Risks and the mitigations applied in separate sections in the request(but still missing the details i've mentioned above)
    We have configured the system so that the risks need to be mitigated before approving a request.
    Is there a way(some config) we can get this info too recorded in the Audit trail?
    Thanks,

    HOME_TEL                                           VARCHAR2(20)
    DATE_STARTED                                       DATECan anyone show me where I put truncate etc in my file and does TRAILING NULL COLS actually insert null when no data is present?
    Cheers

    Hi,
    Thanks for the info.
    I have the SEQUENCE SORTED and I believe that TRAILLING NULLCOLLS works fine too but I cannot seem to seem to find away to insert SYSDATE when no date exists in the flat file. Also, I cannot work out how to trim down the information if its too long for the column I want to insert too.
    My CTL file again is like this
    LOAD DATA
    INFILE new_employees.csv
    INTO TABLE temp_emp
    FIELDS TERMINATED BY ","
    TRAILING NULLCOLS
    EMP_NO       SEQUENCE(MAX, 1),
    LAST_NAME,
    FIRST_NAME,
    TITLE,
    ADD1,
    PCODE,               -- some pcodes are too long how can I trim them here?
    HOME_TEL,
    DATE_STARTED   -- What can I put here to say if NULL then use SYSDATE
    )I did read the info and learned sequence easy enough but I couldn't find an answer to these last to questions.
    Cheers
    M
