UDA Defination in Rule file

I am trying to create a Rule file to build my Dimensions. TheDimensions get built up properly without any issues as long as I donot have any UDA's defined in it. My dimension build data file is as follows which is ~delimited:2006~Nov-06~28-Nov-2006~D45~Tue~Business~DA38988~AAAAANow in the above file first 3 fields are of the time dimension.D45 is the UDA for 28-Nov-2006 and Tue is the attribute filed of28-Nov-2006 My rule file definition is as followsGen2,Time Gen3,Time Gen4,Time UDA4,Time WeekDays4,Time Gen2,User Gen3,User Alias3,UsersAs you can see I have defined the Rule file using Generationproperties Now when I am trying to build the Dimensions using the abovefile it gives the following error message Object [Test] is already locked by user [XXXXXX] Building Dimensions Elapsed Time : [0.79] seconds There were errors, look inC:\Hyperion\AdminServices\client\dataload.err Reading Parameters For Database [Drxxxxxx] Reading Outline Transactions For Database [Test] Declared Dimension Sizes = [4 5 11 3 2 ] Actual Dimension Sizes = [3 3 11 3 1 ] Allocated TRIGMAXMEMSIZE: [4096] Bytes. As an added comment to the previous poster, you might want both "Allow Property Changes" and "Allow Association Changes" so that both UDAs and Attributes can be successfully updated. If your Essbase version contains the option, you will also need to check the "Allow UDA Changes" option which only becomes enabled if property changes are first enabled. As for your question regarding Declared vs. Actual dimension sizes: A "Declared Dimension Size" is a count of the total number of members in the dimension. An "Actual Dimension Size" is the same, but less the Dynamic Calc, Shared and Label Only members. The numbers you see are simply a list of the declared or actual sizes of each dimension in order.

Error while opening SQL source for a Data Load Rules File

I have Essbase 7.1 I guess for version 7.1 the SQL interface option is intalled with the Analytic server itself .Am I right?I have setup the DSN also.Please help to resolve this issue.Thanks .

Issue with rule file and Substitution variable

Hi All,
I am using Essbase 9.3.3
I created a rule file with 5 dimensions in which 3 dimensions I defined in columns and two dimensions I gave it as header in data column with comma seperated.
Among those two dimension members, one is an account member with "/" in it within quotes and other is a substitution variable.
The member assigned for that Substitution variable has a space in between and is updated within quotes in variables list.
When I try loading data, I am getting an error saying that two members are not valid.
Eg: "Tax/Unit",&Scenario is not valid.
&Scenario - "Budget Q1"
Can some one please suggest on the issue.
I am not facing any problem in calc scripts or reports scripts using the substition variable.

Mark,
Modifying the default files is dangerous and ill advised. You could always just add a style sheet (inline or linked) to your application that overrides that one setting while you wait on the permanent fix.

Substitution Variables in Essbase Load Rules File

Hi,
Has anyone tried using substitution variables in Load Rules File Header definition?
I need to load data based on the Year & I have different Files for 3 Years- CurYr, BudYr1 & BudYr2. Is it allowed to specify the Year Substitution variable in the Rule File Header? I am getting an error while loading.

I figured it out. The error message I was getting was because of some parsing issue. I have defined Year as "FY12" in quotes. I removed quotes & it worked.

Moving a parent in a Dimension using a rules file

I would like too move a parent in one of my dimensions to the bottom of that Dimension using a rule file

I have a confusion over here. For instance:
If I have Margin (parent) Sales (child) and COGS (child) defined in the data source in that order, than how will I change it to sales, cogs and than margin in the data source.
Parent child build method has the following statndard format, if i am not wrong:
PARENT (say accounts) DIMENSION NAME (code say A10001) ALIAS (Margin) AGGREGATION (+) and DATA STORAGE (The code for store)

Building BSO using ASO Rules file

Hi All,
We are building a new application where in we want to have both ASO and BSO. Eventually we wanted to do partition between these two cubes.
We already have a fully functional ASO with data loaded into it. This ASO also has bunch of rules files using which the ASO cube was built.
We need to build a new BSO and it should have same outline as ASO and in order to achieve this as used the same rules file that are in ASO. I already built the BSO usinng ASO rules files
My issue is with the dimension which are deifned as Multiplw Heirarchy and I would appreciate if some one can help me how do i define them in BSO. Also if some one canhelp me understand what are additional changes that needs to be taken care when I am building BSO using ASO rules files

As part of my research i found that error code is very generic. I checked the caluclation for missing ) or ( but everything looks good

Your ASO formulas will not work in BSO cube. ASO uses MDX formulas and BSO uses Essbase calc script language. There is a guide in the technical reference that helps convert from one to the other.
As far as multiple hierarchies, BSO does not have this concept. You should be able to load the hierarchies as is with perhaps a few changes to the load rule to address how to handle shared members.
You will not have a direct one to one from BSO to ASO. They are a different architecture and as such have variances that are not 1 to 1 compatible.

Essbase load rule file

I am trying to use load rule to append some data to Essbase cube. How do you define the rule on Essbase side, as a data file or SQL data source? I am trying to avoid the second option as the SQL Interface was not configured on Essbase Unix box. Is it possible?

Essbase Load Rules File Header Issue

Hi,
Is it possible to specify more than one member for the same dimension in the Load Rules file Header?
Example: I need to load the same data in all the remaining months in current year.
I tried using a substitution variable in the header which is defined as Aug,Sep,Oct,Nov,Dec.
It loaded randomly. For each account, only one month is loaded.
It loads only as many data points as in the data file regardless of the number of members from the same dimension specified in the Header definition.
Any suggestions to correct this.
Using a Calc script to do a data copy cannot be used because of other process limitations.

Randomly? That's really interesting. But yeah, I wouldn't expect that to work.
I have a hard time thinking of a really good option that will handle an variable number of periods and is driven by a single subvar.
Run the load multiple times, cycling through the subvar settings? Or (faster, if Period is dense) create one load rule for each period, with the data column copied multiple times using field manipulation and the future Periods assigned to each column (rather than using a 'Data' field) and run only the rule you need? That option doesn't use a subvar at all, but still requires conditional logic in the process.
Alternatively, do the transformation in your source extract / parse the file. This is really the 'best' option but I appreciate there are sometimes constraints on changing upstream processes.

when loading a flat file into Essbase, one can define in the header the data load field names. In the data load, the dimension names are given and at the end the Data. In the rule file under Options > Data source properties > Header a reference to this line could be made. This works fine.
We want to load data with SQL in the same way. One load rule with a substitution variable for the view selection and we can use it for all data loads. We have specified the dimension names in the table column header. The data column was defined as "data" - without quotes.
The result so far is, it will not load.
The question is - does somebody tried this before and can help me on this?

the data column can be repersented in multiple ways, the way I typically do it is to define it to the member it belongs to. In my example where your substitution variable &currmth is "Jan" then "Jan" would be the column name. Next month when the sub var changes to Feb, it is Feb.

How to use Entity Attributes in excel Rule File

I have defined two entities Entity A with two attributes and Entity B child of A with two attributes.
I needed to have many instances of theses objects thats why i have chosen entities.
I need to calculate for each entity a result depending on the values of the attributes filled by the user.
My final goal is to have the sum of these calculated results.
The issue i am facing is whenever i try to define a rule in Excel, OPM considers the attribute as global (and creates it) and not as entity level. I therefore have duplicate error.
How can i tell Excel/OPM that the attribute is entity level ?

Make sure you are using exactly the same attribute text in Excel and in your properties file. You can also use the legend key to map from the attribute text to a shorter form.
There isn't any magic here! If the text is the same it will match.
If you provide the actual text of the attributes and entities you are using, we might notice something else.

Technically that kind of "calculation" you can do.
Scaling and flip sign on UDA.
BUT all data in the data load will be scaled. So do not load FTE or other numbers with it.
The UDA should be there before loading.
I would see if there are options in the source or do a calculation in Essbase afterwards (input_version -> working_version)

I hope rule file is in the database directory (By default it will get saved there only)

Rule file also had one issue
Market, Product, Measures, Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, May, Jun, Jul, Aug, Sep, Oct, Nov, DecHere I am seeing only four dimensions from the Sample.Basic database
Scenario is missing. So define Actual (Scenario Dimension member) in the rule file header definition.
All dimensions must be identified to parse one data file with rule file.
PS: Naming (GENREF) is also irrelevant if you are loading data. It is apt for dim load.

In EIS
1) You have to define the Logical OLAP Model connecting to the relational source.It defines the joins between fact table and dimension tables.
2) Based on the OLAP Model You have to create meta outline which defines the rules for loading members and data into essbase.

Why can't I open read/write rules file?

I have followed the Cookbook XML tutorial exactly as prescribed, even down to using all the examples from the 'Completed' folder, but when I try to perform any procedure such as generating a EDD or reading an XML instance (the ColorDoc.xml example) I get the following in the log file:
Could not open the read/write rules file
(App\ChapterReadWriteRules)
Make sure you have read access to the file and that
the file is not already in use.
Using XP and Framemaker 7.
Its a real blocker this proble. Have tries unsetting the XP Read-only folder property on all the folders in the heirarchy but XP won't let me do that. Very grateful if anyone could help me over this problem.

What is the path you mentioned the structapps.fm file for read/write rules
It should be full file path for read/write rules(including extension of file). Otherwise there is possibility of throwing the error you mentioned.
Would it be possible to paste your XML application defined in your structapps.fm file??

whats the problem you are facing with it.
OK, in steps:
1. type the name of your new dimension in 'define dimension' and press enter
2. post pressing enter , you see the newly defined dimension moving down, one can right click and assign the required propertiest to that .
