  • AlwaysOn Availability groups and unable to backup LOG files

    Hi,
    I have an issue where we are using AlwaysOn availability groups, however my transaction log backup jobs are not working for any databases that are part of the groups.  Databases which are standalone backup fine.  I've tried using the builtin maintenance
    plans as well as the 'maintenance script' from Ola Hallengren which is my preference.
    All the jobs are reporting success even though nothing is bring written to disk, the jobs complete within a few seconds.
    If I backup the log files individually myself they work fine.  After
    going a bit of Googling this appears to have been a known issue that was fixed in CU7, unfortunately I'm running CU9 and still have the issue.
    I've tried changing the backup preference to any, as well as primary or secondary only to no avail.
    I'm using SQL Server SP1 CU9, 2 nodes in the group.  Anyone have any suggestions?
    Marcus

    Hi,
    I understand that you have tried every options in Backup Preferences. I still suggest you enable the “For availability database. Ignore Replica Priority for Backup and Backup on Primary Settings” when you define the maintenance plan and check how it works.
    This settings is off by default. And the maintenance plan will detect the availability group's AUTOMATED_BACKUP_PREFERENCE setting when deciding to backup a database or log if that database is defined in the group.
    'Given that an availability group's default AUTOMATED_BACKUP_PREFERENCE setting is 'SECONDARY, a maintenance plan, defined and running on a SQL Server instance hosting the primary replica, will NOT backup databases defined in the availability group.

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/alwaysonpro/archive/2014/01/02/maintenance-plan-does-not-backup-database-or-log-of-database-that-belongs-to-availability-group.aspx
    Hope it helps.

  • Why it automatically recover current redo log in RMAN command window?

    Firstly, I restore controlfile and datafiles from a backupset.
    Then when I recover database in RMAN command window like below:

  • Unable to find archived log

    Hi
    I am restoring a hot backup taken through RMAN using following commands:
    configure controlfile autobackup on;
    BACKUP DATABASE ;
    BACKUP ARCHIVELOG ALL DELETE INPUT;
    Now I am going to restore that using following commands:
    restore spfile from autobackup;
    restore controlfile from autobackup;
    shutdown immediate;
    startup mount;
    restore database;
    RECOVER DATABASE;
    ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS;
    But it goes fine till restore database. At recover database I get following errors:

    I don't mind if some data is lost. Will be really thankful if someone can help me get my database open;
    Habib

    They way you are trying to recover will try to recover up to the last know SCN. Try to do a point in time recover up to a few minutes before the database was shutdown or crashed.
    Try something like this
    run{
    set until time "to_date('2013-09-11:00:00:00', 'yyyy-mm-dd:hh24:mi:ss')";
    restore spfile from autobackup;
    restore controlfile from autobackup;
    shutdown immediate;
    startup mount;
    restore database;
    RECOVER DATABASE;
    ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS;

  • How to restore cold backup + archived log files

    Hi,
    Suppose I take a cold backup on 18th. After that I have four days of archived log files. if the database crashes on 5th day, I have to restore the 18th cold back + 4 days of archived log files. How do I restore since it is a cold backup and I cant do incomplete recovery.
    can I use
    Recover database ( with 18th cold backup) in mount state and apply archived logs.
    Prabhath

    The details of how you perform forward recovery using a cold backup depends on
    1- rman or manual backup
    2- using current or backup control file
    3- if rman, recovery catalog or no recovery catalog
    4- if full database recovered or only a few files
    Each of these conditions will affect what is known to Oracle and what needs to be done. For example if you restored the entire cold backup including the control file then Oracle would see a consistent database and not need to perform recovery so you would need to startup mount and tell the database to perform recovery using a backup control file. If using rman and no recovery catalog you might need to catalog some of the archived redo logs, etc....
    It is advisable to consult the Backup and Recovery manuals before attempting recovery for any new scenario.

  • Unable to backup my iPhone 5c in Itunes

    hello,
    I keep getting an error mgs when i connect my USB into my iphone and laptop. The mgs says that its unable to backup iPhone because my computer is not authorized for itunes purchases. does anyone know what that means???? HELP!!!

    That means exactly what it says. Your computer is not Authorized to the Apple ID account that the content was purchased with. If your iTunes is logged in to an Apple ID you must log out, then log in using the same Apple ID that the content was purchased with. Then go to the Store menu and choose Authorize.

  • 91 Database - When to Backup Archive Logs?

    hi experts,
    I have a 9i db that runs in Archive mode. NOT using the catalog.
    A full database backup is made by RMAN at 7am while database is OPEN.
    An incremental backup are made every 3 hours.
    For RMAN to be able to perform a complete recovery, when should I backup the archive logs?
    Thanks, John

    Thanks Khurran and Anvar.
    As I'm new to Oracle (my background is SQL Server), I admit I'm a bit confused about the use of archive logs.
    I had a situation last week, where I needed to restore (to another server) froma backup made at month-end. I had the whole db backup but it was made while db was open. Therefore I needed to also restore the archive log(s) but did not have them. In the end, I had to restore db and force it to open. it was messy and not at all easy.
    My recovery window is 2 days.
    If I do the following, will I be able to restore to a point in time for the past 2 days?
    - controlfile is set for autobackup
    - run RMAN> backup databse plus archivelog; once per day, then run my incremental backup every 3 hours
    Thanks for your opinions. John

    Hi Alok,
    why there is a need for standby here? you mean to say standby db?
    what i exactly need is , whether i will be making use of archivelogs which are all archived during that backup period (in mount stage) after some days, if i face any problem with the PRODUCTION Database..

  • SQUIRRELLY  Leopard Server and Unable to Backup using Anything!

    I upgraded from 10.4 to 10.5.2 Leopard server, and am having some difficulties that I can't resolve.
    The server is running on an Intel dual core MacMini, and is primarily used for email. It isn't serving any webpages at the moment. The install was "from scratch" and not some kind of upgrade; only the mail was moved over from the previous server using Mail BFR.
    I have been unable to backup the server in any way. I have tried:
    • Superduper (2.5) which is how I backed up the previous server without problem
    • Carbon Copy Clone
    and now
    • Time Machine
    The first two would run about 2/3 the way thru, and the computer would "freeze" (mouse activity but nothing would work, required hard reset to recover). No logs available as the problem does not leave anything showing the problem.
    Time Machine was tried today, and it ran about 1/2 the server (only 18GB) and kernel panic resulted (log below).
    Tried all the usual troubleshooting methods; rebuild permissions, ran deep-cleaning, etc.
    I hate to have to restart the whole process from scratch.
    Thanks

    That is definitely the intended operation sorry, this is done so that if you have encrypted the device no one can just plug your phone into a PC and pull all the data off.

  • Unable to backup, iphone 4, 4.3.5, itunes 10.4, Windows 7

    I've sync'd and backed up many times before, and now I get an error. I recently updated iTunes, but I can't say that is the cause.
    The error is: iTunes could not back up the iPhone "Larry's iPhone" because the backup could not be saved on the computer.
    I've researched the web and tried the usual: deleting old backups (in itunes, and manually, etc).
    When I delete all the backups and logs, and then try to sync, iTunes hangs up. I have to kill iTunes in the Task Manager.
    The only log that is created during this procedure lists this error:
    7592 @ Tue Aug 16 00:45:43 2011] [com.apple.console AppleMobileBackup.exe] Unable to move temporary file "C:\Users\larry\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\Logs\MobileBackup-unknown-20110816-004543-Backup-Com puter.log" (3)

    [7832 @ Tue Aug 16 00:47:43 2011] [_ISDVLog SyncServer.exe] Goodnight, Gracie.
    Anyone have any ideas? The file indicated doesn't even appear to exist, which might be why it's having trouble moving the file! Seems like sloppy programming since iTunes just hangs and won't quit.
    I also ran the itunes installer and chose "repair" just for kicks. It didn't change anything.
    (Please don't suggest that I disable security software. I uninstalled mine completely and it had no effect. )
    Thanks,
    Larry

    Yes. In addition to deleting all the failed backup files, etc, I had to do one more step which I learned about from another thread.
    The key for me on my windows 7 machine was to open a command shell (type "cmd" under search) and at the c prompt type 'netsh winsock reset' (do not include the apostrophe's of course). I may have rebooted afterwards. Try searching for that command along with "itunes backup."
    I do not profess to understand what this command fixed. Obviously some condition in Windows 7 was hanging iTunes up during backup, and it was obviously something that Apple did not forsee. Running this command cleared the problem and allowed itunes to proceeed normally with my backup and I have not had an issue since.
    I am keeping my finger's crossed.

  • Unable to delete archive logs from primary

    Dear DBAs,
    I made the necessary configuration in RMAN at both site (primary and physical standby) as below:
    on primary:
    configure archivelog deletion policy to applied on standby;
    alter system set "_log_deletion_policy"=ALL scope=spfile;
    log_archive_dest_10=LOCATION=USE_DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST VALID_FOR=(ALL_LOGFILES,ALL_ROLES) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=ora10cs1
    log_archive-dest_1=service="(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)
    (HOST=LBLX-ORA10-SCS1)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=ora10scs1_XPT)(INSTANCE_NAME=ora10cs1)(SERVER=dedicated)))",
    ARCH SYNC NOAFFIRM delay=0 OPTIONAL max_failure=0 max_connections=1 reopen=300 db_unique_name="ora10scs1" register net_timeout=180 valid_for=
    (online_logfile,primary_role)
    at standby:
    configure archivelog deletion policy to none;
    By the way i'm using Oracle 10gR2 patch4 on RHEL 5
    and till now the database won't delete the archivelogs automaticaly, since the current available size in the flash folder is only 2MB.
    Please waiting your advice
    Thx in advance

    Hi,
    I have a different issue, I am not sure i can combine on the same thread.
    From the DOC, this command is appeared to be useful. I am not sure if it can be applied to my environment.
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON STANDBY
    We have some databases with DG configuration on Sun. We take the backups only primary using RMAN online & archivelog alternate days. But, the archivelogs on standby are to be deleted every day manually (i mean we have a script scheduled for it).
    Note: We use "delete input" on primary backup every day after they are backedup by RMAN. Anyway, the logs that are not applied on standby will not be deleted as RMAN is intelligent to keep them safe.
    In the past we attempted to delete using rman script with the command shown below.
    delete archivelog all completed before 'sysdate-2/24';
    This causes a problem every time for us with regard to the primary database Backup as it expects the archivelogs on primay which were deleted by RMAN on standby. We had to crosscheck archivelog all every time to resolve the issue. There seems to be a mismatch of the archlog status both on primary and standby.
    Please let me know if the above configuration command "CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY " on both primary and standby or give an idea/steps what way i can use this.
    Regards,
    Vasu.

  • Unable to backup folders with accents

    OES 2 SP3
    Backup Exec 2010
    Unable to backup folders containing accents. Backup jobs fails with 'directory is invalid'.
    Would the /NoConvertUnMappableChars switch come in to play here? 10097645: Files would be skipped from the backup. Convert unmappable characters File not found errors in the backup logs.
    Thanks in advance.

    I have enabled TSAFS debugging (Cool Solutions: Enabling the Debug Options in TSAFS on OES Linux) and reproduced the issue.
    I can see in the debug log that the folder is shown correctly (with the accent). However, further down the log it shows a 'garbled' version of the folder name against ScanDataSetBegin.
    Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

  • How to delete archive log by RMAN.

    Hi All,
    How to delete archive log by RMAN and what is the difference between
    delete all input & all delete input in RMAN backup.

    plus archivelog all delete inputYou get an error on the syntax.
    "PLUS ARCHIVELOG" does not allow the "ALL" keyword.
    (See "backupSpecOperand" in the RMAN Documentation of the BACKUP command syntax).
    However, "DELETE INPUT" allows the optional "ALL" keyword as in "DELETE ALL INPUT" to delete from all archivelog destinations.
    I guess that you have confused the "ALL" keyword in "BACKUP ARCHIVELOG" as being possible in "BACKUP .. PLUS ARCHIVELOG".
    "ALL" is allowed in "BACKUP ARCHIVELOG" but not in "BACKUP .. PLUS ARCHIVELOG".
