Unable to find archived log

Hi
I am restoring a hot backup taken through RMAN using following commands:
configure controlfile autobackup on;
BACKUP DATABASE ;
BACKUP ARCHIVELOG ALL DELETE INPUT;
Now I am going to restore that using following commands:
restore spfile from autobackup;
restore controlfile from autobackup;
shutdown immediate;
startup mount;
restore database;
RECOVER DATABASE;
ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS;
But it goes fine till restore database. At recover database I get following errors:
archived log for thread 1 with sequence 2461 is already on disk as file /u01/app/oracle/fast_recovery_area/XE/onlinelog/o1_mf_1_8fbs9bvt_.log

I don't mind if some data is lost. Will be really thankful if someone can help me get my database open;
Habib

They way you are trying to recover will try to recover up to the last know SCN. Try to do a point in time recover up to a few minutes before the database was shutdown or crashed.
Try something like this
run{
set until time "to_date('2013-09-11:00:00:00', 'yyyy-mm-dd:hh24:mi:ss')";
restore spfile from autobackup;
restore controlfile from autobackup;
shutdown immediate;
startup mount;
restore database;
RECOVER DATABASE;
ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS;

  • Unable to delete archive logs from primary

    Dear DBAs,
    I made the necessary configuration in RMAN at both site (primary and physical standby) as below:
    on primary:
    configure archivelog deletion policy to applied on standby;
    alter system set "_log_deletion_policy"=ALL scope=spfile;
    log_archive_dest_10=LOCATION=USE_DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST VALID_FOR=(ALL_LOGFILES,ALL_ROLES) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=ora10cs1
    log_archive-dest_1=service="(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)
    (HOST=LBLX-ORA10-SCS1)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=ora10scs1_XPT)(INSTANCE_NAME=ora10cs1)(SERVER=dedicated)))",
    ARCH SYNC NOAFFIRM delay=0 OPTIONAL max_failure=0 max_connections=1 reopen=300 db_unique_name="ora10scs1" register net_timeout=180 valid_for=
    (online_logfile,primary_role)
    at standby:
    configure archivelog deletion policy to none;
    By the way i'm using Oracle 10gR2 patch4 on RHEL 5
    and till now the database won't delete the archivelogs automaticaly, since the current available size in the flash folder is only 2MB.
    Please waiting your advice
    Thx in advance

    Hi,
    I have a different issue, I am not sure i can combine on the same thread.
    From the DOC, this command is appeared to be useful. I am not sure if it can be applied to my environment.
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON STANDBY
    We have some databases with DG configuration on Sun. We take the backups only primary using RMAN online & archivelog alternate days. But, the archivelogs on standby are to be deleted every day manually (i mean we have a script scheduled for it).
    Note: We use "delete input" on primary backup every day after they are backedup by RMAN. Anyway, the logs that are not applied on standby will not be deleted as RMAN is intelligent to keep them safe.
    In the past we attempted to delete using rman script with the command shown below.
    delete archivelog all completed before 'sysdate-2/24';
    This causes a problem every time for us with regard to the primary database Backup as it expects the archivelogs on primay which were deleted by RMAN on standby. We had to crosscheck archivelog all every time to resolve the issue. There seems to be a mismatch of the archlog status both on primary and standby.
    Please let me know if the above configuration command "CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY " on both primary and standby or give an idea/steps what way i can use this.
    Regards,
    Vasu.

  • Is unable to write archive log fast enough the problem?

    Oracle 10g:
    I see very very long checkpoints in alert logs:
    Mon Mar 23 12:35:57 2009
    Beginning log switch checkpoint up to RBA [0x2001.2.10], SCN: 2667813010
    Mon Mar 23 12:35:57 2009
    Thread 1 advanced to log sequence 8193 (LGWR switch)
      Current log# 3 seq# 8193 mem# 0: /u05/oradata/perf/redo03a.log
      Current log# 3 seq# 8193 mem# 1: /u06/oradata/perf/redo03b.log
    Mon Mar 23 12:41:02 2009
    Completed checkpoint up to RBA [0x2001.2.10], SCN: 2667813010Our redo logs are 2gb and have 6 of those.
    I am not sure why checkpoints are so long. Also, does this affect the requests trying to read-write to DB?
    I am seeing high response time on our customer transactions when backup runs and one of the things I see is high checkpoints. But I am not sure if that would cause 20x high response time even though we do it at night time when the traffic is relatively low. There is something wrong and I am not sure if it's chekpoints, redo logs or something else.

    Everything is indicating to me this is a big database.
    My understanding, possilbly flawed, is to use a backup technique of spliting off the the third mirror the tablespaces should be put in backup mode before split, and out of backup mode after the split. (I believe this should be visible by entries in the alert log).
    Whilst tablespaces are in backup mode extra redo will be generated, so it is important to check this time is minimized.
    If data paths have been properly separated then there should only be a small blip in performance while the mirror split is occuring,
    and possibly a drop when the third mirror is silverd back in.
    The fact you are on a 3 way mirror backup design means you need to have documented the design and infrastucture of that set up and
    ensure backup is documented and understood and monitored. This might also help pinpoint where in the process response times are increasing.
    You might also try to monitor whether your disk access wait times are increasing during backups, or whether you have increased network latency.
    (At abolute worst case in my opinion bad operation of this form of backup could lead to an unrecoverable database .... some system/backup admins might not appreciate this .... )
    What could however be happening is while the third mirror is being backed up elsewhere that is causing contention between that backup and your databases access to storage.
    This is all infrastructure dependent.
    Slightly different topic what I mean was that the /uNN mounts may be filesystems set up by a volume manager, and may be on the same physical disk. Understanding the
    3 way mirror backup takes priority over this.
    In summary I suggest you seek all that is known about the design of your backup and its supporting documents. In your position I think I certainly would.
    (It is past my bedtime and I may have veered off topic).
    It is probably worth noting how often you switch redo logs and if that rate gets more frequent at certain times of day,
    (ie graph when your redo logs were created and at what size).
    Use Database Control / Grid Control to view AWR reports especially watching I/O quantity and waits overnight.
    Before I forget it may be worth ensuring FAST_START_MTTR_TARGET is set to non zero value. (eg) 300s. This has an effect on incremental checkpointing.
    Hope some of this helps - bigdelboy

    Have you made backup of all archived redo log files? If so, why this one was disappeared?
    Have you applied all archived redo log files before that required archived redo log file?
    Please try to recover the database using the following command:
    RMAN> RESTORE DATABASE;
    RMAN> RECOVER DATABASE UNTIL SEQUENCE 29166;
    RMAN>ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS;

  • Delete unwanted archive logs

    We do only one way replication using stream. How do I find archive logs that can be deleted at source. Our destination runs nonarchive.

    If you use RMAN - it is streams friendly and should know which logs can be purged.
    Otherwise, I use the following query:
    SELECT r.CONSUMER_NAME,
    r.NAME,
    r.FIRST_SCN,
    r.NEXT_SCN,
    case when (r.next_scn > c.required_checkpoint_scn) then ‘NO’ else ‘YES’ end purgable
    FROM DBA_REGISTERED_ARCHIVED_LOG r, DBA_CAPTURE c
    WHERE r.CONSUMER_NAME = c.CAPTURE_NAME;
    According to Metalink note 373066.1 this is what RMAN does, so it should be safe.

  • Extract is abended and looking 8 days old archive log.

    I was doing some maintenance and I stop all the extracts and replicats. Couple of my extracts are stopped and looking for 8 days old archive logs. Please tell me how can I recover from that situation. I dont have that archive any more we only keep 5days arch.

    If you don't have the log file(s) in question, then you need to:
    re-sync the databases/schema/tables, or
    advance the CSN to a point in time where you do have log files and deal with missing data separately
    Is an archived transaction log missing?
    ● Extract reads the archived logs when an online log is not available. If you started
    Extract after it was stopped for a long time, the records it needs to process might
    already be archived away.
    ● Restore the archive log that is specified in the error message in the report file, and also
    restore all subsequent logs.
    NOTE Extract should not be stopped for a long time. If you must stop Extract, make
    certain that archives are available all the way back to the time that you stopped
    Extract. If Extract remains stopped for an exceptionally long time, it might be more
    practical to resynchronize the table(s) rather than wait for Extract to go through the
    archives and catch up.

  • Have i missed any archive log in Standby setup?, im unable to find

    Dear All,
    I setup standby in Oracle10g.
    In my Primary the archive log list shows as
    primary>archive log list;
    Database log mode Archive Mode
    Automatic archival Enabled
    Archive destination D:\STANDBY\Archive
    Oldest online log sequence 30
    Next log sequence to archive 32
    Current log sequence 32
    In my standby the archive log list shows as
    standby>archive log list;
    Database log mode Archive Mode
    Automatic archival Enabled
    Archive destination C:\PRIMARY\Archive
    Oldest online log sequence 31
    Next log sequence to archive 0
    Current log sequence 32
    Have i missed any archive log file?
    But in my archive location of the primary i found the archive files from ARC00002_0633898426.001,ARC00003_0633898426.001 to ARC00031_0633898426.001
    and in my archive location of the standby i found the archive files from
    ARC00002_0633898426.001,ARC00003_0633898426.001 to ARC00031_0633898426.001 and one more extra archive file ARC00032_0633898426.001.
    I am getting confused from where i got the archive file ARC00032_0633898426.001 in standby only which is not in primary?
    Please clarify this...

    Please let me know abiut the above issue, i will be thankful to you.

  • Unable to find moniker information for archive collection ArchiveCollection

    In attempting to setup archive transfer between PROD and DEV I needed to rename an existing outgoing provider and the only way I found I could do this is to delete the existing provider and recreate it with a new name. I think by doing this it has caused and issue and now the CS log displays an error similar to below:
    Unable to find moniker information for archive collection ArchiveCollections. The collection ecmprd2 has no information associated with it. It no longer exists in the system. [ Details ]
    An error has occurred. The stack trace below shows more information.

         at intradoc.server.IdcServerThread.run(IdcServerThread.java:197)
    Does anyone know if this is caused by deleting the existing outgoing provider and if it is how can I resolve it?
    Regards,
    Andrew

    I misspoke when I said to recreate the outgoing provider because an outgoing provider only provides the "connection" from DEV to PROD. What I meant is that if the provider is deleted and the automated archives are left alone, they would fail because that connection is gone. Since you recreated an outgoing provider (even with a different name), that connection should be there again.
    I highly doubt each archive "stores" the name of the outgoing provider in its configuration, so I doubt either of those options would work. The only thing that makes sense is that the collection is "gone" (ie. DEV cannot find 'ecmprd2') or the PROD collection isn't called 'ecmprd2' anymore. I'm assuming "ecmprd2" is the instance name of your PROD instance, right? If you can, try deleting all archives and see if the error exists afterwards.
    Why did you have to "rename" the provider to begin with?

  • Keep getting archive errors.  "ERROR: E_FILE unable to find md file: /Volume....

    We have a Final Cut Server setup where after two weeks assets will automatically be archived to tape. Every so often I am getting error messages that state something similar to the following:
    Job 404117 Archiving 214452_upload.mov needs attention. Please login and troubleshoot.
    The error that occurred was:
    "ERROR: E_FILE Unable to find md file: /Volumes/xsan/MEDIA/devices/video.bundle/3dd/00000000000203dd_md No such file or directory"
    Naturally I will look at the directory path and will not see the file. When I search for that particular asset it will show up as online, but the "original media" is grayed out. Then there will be an exclamation point over the file cabinet (which says the file is online). So the media is missing. When I look at the log of the file, there will also be an email that was sent out to the creator saying that the file was ready for editing.
    Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

    But you can probably find the history of OS command been run with history command :). You can get the date and time.

  • How to find out which archived logs needed to recover a hot backup?

    I'm using Oracle 11gR2 (11.2.0.1.0).
    I have backed up a database when it is online using the following backup script through RMAN
    connect target /
    run {
    allocate channel d1 type disk;
    backup
    incremental level=0 cumulative
    filesperset 4
    format '/san/u01/app/backup/DB_%d_%T_%u_%c.rman'
    database
    }The backup set contains the backup of datafiles and control file. I have copied all the backup pieces to another server where I will restore/recover the database but I don't know which archived logs are needed in order to restore/recover the database to a consistent state.
    I have not deleted any archived log.
    How can I find out which archived logs are needed to recover the hot backup to a consistent state? Can this be done by querying V$BACKUP_DATAFILE and V$ARCHIVED_LOG? If yes, which columns should I query?
    Thanks for any help.

    A few ways :
    1a. Get the timestamps when the BACKUP ... DATABASE began and ended.
    1b. Review the alert.log of the database that was backed up.
    1c. From the alert.log identify the first Archivelog that was generated after the begin of the BACKUP ... DATABASE and the first Archivelog that was generated after the end of the BACKUP .. DATABASE.
    1d. These (from 1c) are the minimal Archivelogs that you need to RECOVER with. You can choose to apply additional Archivelogs that were generated at the source database to contininue to "roll-forward"
    2a. Do a RESTORE DATABASE alone.
    2b. Query V$DATAFILE on the restored database for the lowest CHECKPOINT_CHANGE# and CHECKPOINT_TIME. Also query for the highest CHECKPOINT_CHANGE# and CHECKPOINT_TIME.
    2c. Go back to the source database and query V$ARCHIVED_LOG (FIRST_CHANGE#) to identify the first Archivelog that has a higher SCN (FIRST_CHANGE#) than the lowest CHECKPOINT_CHANGE# from 2b above. Also query for the first Archivelog that has a higher SCN (FIRST_CHANGE#) than the highest CHECKPOINT_CHANGE# from 2b above.
    2d. These (from 2c) are the minimal Archivelogs that you need to RECOVER with.
    (why do you need to query V$ARCHIVED_LOG at the source ? If RESTORE a controlfile backup that was generated after the first Archivelog switch after the end of the BACKUP ... DATABASE, you would be able to query V$ARCHIVED_LOG at the restored database as well. That is why it is important to force an archivelog (log switch) after a BACKUP ... DATABASE and then backup the controlfile after this -- i.e. last. That way, the controlfile that you have restored to the new server has all the information needed).
    3. RESTORE DATABASE PREVIEW in RMAN if you have the archivelogs and subsequent controlfile in the backup itself !

  • How to find a session with high archive logs

    Any query, to see which active session is generating high archive logs in oracle 8i &9i and high rbs usage

    Though, there is no direct option or view where you can get this information.
    However, you may can find out the session which are generating lot of redo and undo. I guess, when the session has lot of redo & undo, definately, it contribution towards archive would be more.
    You can query v$sess_io and v$session to findout the the session which is generating lot of redo. i.e. lot of block changes occuring.
    SELECT s.sid, s.serial#, s.username, s.program, i.block_changes
    FROM v$session s, v$sess_io i
    WHERE s.sid = i.sid
    ORDER BY 5 desc
    Also query v$transaction and v$session to find out the session that is generating lot of undo information.

  • Finding the order of archive logs in RAC to NON-RAC manual cloning

    Hi,
    I am in the process of automating a RAC to NON-RAC clone using traditional method [ not using RMAN ].
    Here are the steps:
    On Source:
    Record the sequence number and thread of the instance
    put the database in begin backup mode
    copy the files
    disable the backup mode
    record the sequence number and thread of the instance
    prepare the order of the archive logs which will be needed for recovery ==> Here is where I need help
    On Target:
    Restore the backup
    Issue recovery using the order of archive logs identified ==> Failing as order is not correct.
    I am finding the archive logs based on FIRST_TIME# and preparing the order which is not correct. I think i should be using SCN but not sure what should be the criteria.
    Could you please let me know on what basis we can find the order of the archive logs which will be asked during the recovery ?
    Your quick response is appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.
    Thanks
    Suneel

    Yes, When we execute recover database using backup controlfile until cancel, will prompt for the redo log sequences.
    But as i mentioned before, I am trying script everything and cannot manually enter the sequence numbers required. I need to know the archives and thread it is going to ask [ in what order as well ] so that recovery command can be scripted in shell.
    Please let me know if there is a away to find the order of archive logs which needs to be applied to recover [ if this is a NON-RAC, we can simply go with the sequence numbers but since it is a RAC, i should know the thread number as well ].
    Thanks
