User Name in Public shared folder

I deleted the shared folders in my sharing system preferences, but when I add the public folders back the user's name is omitted. Now when accessing the shared computer, all I see is Public and Public-1. Is there anyway to get the folders back with the user's names appended to the front?

It's possible but you might want to leave it alone depending on how comfortable you are with digging into your mac. This thread details where to change the name:

You'll have to log in as root and edit the file he mentioned using Property List Editor which is part of developer tools, or some other editor capable of performing this.
Now, this of course supposes you have no time machine backup. If you have a TM backup restoring your public folder from backup would be best

  • How do I unlock numbers files that are in my public shared folder?

    Hello all,
I've been trying to access a file on my wife's shared folder and she's added me to the sharing and permission list on the file and on the server.
Can someone please give me a hint on how to unlock this file so we can use the versions feature of "numbers"?
    Thanks in advance.
    ~madamal

As far as I know, the versions feature is not shared on networks.
    The datas are stored locally.
Assuming that you boot from the HD named "madamal's HD", the versions datas are stored in the folder :
"madamal's HD:.DocumentRevisions-V100", not on the network.
The period at the beginning of the folder's name is used to hide it.
Trying to share an iWork generated document thru a network is playing with matches.
The iWork apps aren't designed for that.
If your wife work on a document when you are also working on it, there is no provision to arbitrate between the changes introduced by the two users. Very efficient way to destroy the document.

  • 2 ipods, 2 user names... sharing music ?

ok so i've been reading posts into "how to get two ipod minis going at the same time on one computer with different user names... ok so i understand most of it but there is one question...
"i want 90% of the current library on the new ipod, if i move my current library into the shared music folder will i just have all the songs??? is it possible to delete off one user accounts library and still keep the songs on the other library???"
also is it possible to reverse the "consolidating the library" process to free up memory again after the new user account has been formed??
    help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Oliver, Good morning.
    First Question :
This can Be Done Automaticaly By Your iPod From the shared Music Doc. But You can also Do it manualy and Click - drag all Your songs to Your iPod.. (this is easyier).
    Second Question:
Yes, Go To " Preferences", then Go To " Advanced " and Go Un-check The "Copy Files To The itunes Music Folder When Adding To Library ".. This Should Get You Rid Of The Consolidating Helper.

  • How to locale a file without specific file name in a shared folder

    Dear experts,
Is there any function module can be used to search for files in a shared folder in executing the program background? The file name is dynamic and varied. Thanks in advance.
    Regards

This function module 'EPS2_GET_DIRECTORY_LISTING' does not work in background.
I solve this issue by using the function module 'Z0_DIRECTORY_LISTING'. But I do not know whether this fm is available is version 4.6. Anyone is using version 4.6 and can tell me whether it exists in 4.6?

  • Accidentally Changed User Name on HD Root Folder - Nothing Works!

I accidentally (foolishly) changed the user name on my main user folder in OS X. When you open the Macintosh HD the folder with the little house under Desktop and Applications, the one with all my files and all. Now every program I open it's like my computer is new - I have to re-register all my software and none of my files show up. Help! How can I fix this?!

Open the Users folder on the drive, move everything in your old home folder to the new one, log out, and log back in.

  • Misplaced user names in Previous System folder

    Hello.
I had to reinstalled 10.3 because when I tried to do a Migration to my new Imac the network was not working. When I went to the System Pref and opened Networks it displayed an error message that said "Your network settings have been change by another application. And it was stuck in a loop. I would click OK and the message would come right back. So I did a restore and my old user names got put into the (Previous System) folder when it was done and it gave me a new user name and I can't access the old ones. Is there any way to get them back. Right now I'm stuck with the new user name I was asked to enter during restore. I can't get to any of my old stuff like movies or song, email and the like. When I drill down through the Previous system/users/me/Movies etc, I find that those folders are locked and I don't have access to them. I have faith that one of you geniuses will be able to solve this.
    Thanks

    Unfortunately you didn't join us earlier to ask about your initial issue;

As the solution for that can be found HERE, authored by Jona!

  • How can I change the name of a shared folder/hard drive hooked up to my airport extreme?

    Hello,
I was curious if anybody here may know the answer to the problem I'm facing. It seems like such an easy task, but I just can't figure it out.
I have an airport extreme a1143 hooked up to my network directly to my router via Ethernet. I have a USB Ext. HD connected to AEBS. When I click on the Airport Extreme in "Shared" under Finder on my Mac, it pulls up a little folder with people on it (meaning it's shared). It is my Ext. HD, but it's called "NO NAME".
As silly as it sounds, like it to be called something other than, "NO NAME". Does anyone know how I can change this?
    Thank you,
    Mike

Eject the drive, if is mounted on your desktop
Temporarily,  connect the drive directly to your Mac, and wait for it to mount on the desktop
Click slowly on the name of the drive, and you will be able to edit the name of the drive
Eject the drive and connect it back to the AirPort Extreme

  • Windows users can't access shared folder - only see Library folder.

I created users folders with the same name as the user's login name. (Note: this is NOT a home folder. I have Home Folders shut off). When the Windows user logs in to access their folder, they don't see their files but instead a folder that says "Library".
When I log in with that user's account on my Mac, I can see the correct contents of their folder, but there is also a folder named "99". I found this "99" folder at the root of the server hard drive but every time I delete it, OS X recreates it again.
    I don't understand what's going on.

    Hi,
Whether you can able to ping the server when the server share is unresponsive?
Check for the events on the server for a clue. Try disabling the AV program for some time and check whether the problem is repeating.

  • Windows shared folder asks for permanently delete

    Hi,
Any file from windows shared folder asks for permanently delete and after that it is not recoverable... Please help, how to enable recycle bin service??

    Hi,
This is by design the Recycle Bin only stores files deleted from local drives, not from a shared folder. The workaround is to move a folder in C:\users\<user name> to the shared folder.
For more detailed information, please refer to the thread below:
Files deleting over the Network /share drive is not going to the recycle bin it permanently delete the file but deleting from local drive is normaly going to recycle Bin !

  • Other Mac users cannot see my shared public folder

Other users on my network cannot see my Public shared folder. I can see their public folders no problem. I can connect to my computer from another Mac and "connect as" myself and see folders.
I have File Sharing turned on. Permissions look copacetic. It says I'm the owner of the shared folder.
IT's has a profile on this same machine – its Public folder shows up for other users. When I set up a new account profile, its shared folder shows up no problem.
It may, just may, have to do with me changing my short login name after migrating to this machine. Problem is, I have no idea how to confirm that. Finder shows proper ownership and permissions in the info windows. I think there's something deeper down in the account system level that is wrong, but I don't know where to look.

If you have admin rights, you can create a new account in System Preferences and see if that shared folder shows up on the network. If it does, then it could be related to changing short name (which I have heard you aren't suppose to do). If not, it may be something in the system. Give that a try and post back what happens.

  • Assign User to public sharing grouosps

    Hi all,
I have to assign a large number of users to a public sharing group. I wanted to do this via import/update, but I miss the "Primary Group" field in the mappings. Is there a way to perform this task atomatically?

    Hi Bob,
    additional last questions...
I have some problems to find sth. on visibility in reports for groups. As I do have owner access on group records: Are these records treated as owned records in reporting, too?
Am I right, that it is not possible to use groups on SR records (according to bookshelf)?
In total we can state that there is no benefit in using groups vs. books of business?
Thank you, your help is very much appreciated!

  • Convergence, still no public shared folders!?!

Is Convergence supposed to support public folders or not. I have set public folder up and they work brilliantly in Thunderbird. But not having them in Convergence is disappointing. Assuming convergence uses IMAP behind the scenes there's no reason it shouldn't work along side private shared folder.
Quote from Convergence Product Features from way back: [http://wikis.sun.com/display/CommSuite6RR072208/Sun+Convergence+Product+Features]
    Q. Does Convergence support public folders?
    A. Yes, public folder support is the same in Convergence as it is for
IMAP, Messenger Express, or Communications Express. You need to
configure a special user as the owner for such folders. Users then need
to subscribe to such folders to view them.
For more information on public folders, see [To Create a Public Shared Folder|http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-4428/fxbuv?a=view].
It doesn't work in Comms Express, and it doesn't work in Convergence. How the heck does a major feature get into a product feature document like this when it's clear there is no intention for the feature. Pointing me to a guide to enable a feature which does not exist. Who writes this documentation.

I have set public folder up and they work brilliantly in Thunderbird. But not having them in Convergence is disappointing. Assuming convergence uses IMAP behind the scenes there's no reason it shouldn't work along side private shared folder.A quick test shows there is a problem at the Messaging Server level related to public shared folders. This is preventing public shared folders from showing in the "Subscribe to Folder" interface and being displayed when they have been subscribed to using another IMAP client (e.g. Mozilla Thunderbird):
    bug #6907767 - "listfolders.mjs doesn't return Public shared folders"
    bug #6907765 - "list.mjs doesn't return Public shared folders"
It doesn't work in Comms Express, and it doesn't work in Convergence. There are known bugs preventing it from working with Communications Express as we have discussed previously. Why have you not raised these bugs with Sun support to have them fixed?
How the heck does a major feature get into a product feature document like this when it's clear there is no intention for the feature. It seems clear to me that other customers do not consider public folders as a "major" feature otherwise this issue would have been raised before now.

    Shane.

  • I have installed Adobe Lightroom CC.  In the process of launching, a popup appears, that says:  "AN INTERNAL ERROR HAS OCCURRED.  Cannot create the required folder:  /Users/(my user name)/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Develop Presets."  So e

I have installed Adobe Lightroom CC.  In the process of launching, a popup appears, that says:  "AN INTERNAL ERROR HAS OCCURRED.  Cannot create the required folder:  /Users/(my user name)/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Develop Presets."  So even though Lightroom CC is installed, it will not launch.  What do I need to do to allow it to launch?

The problem was solved today.  Here's the full story.  I'm a Mac user.  At first I installed Lightroom CC on my iMac (desktop).  I had this problem so I called Adobe, and was referred to a "special unit" .  After about an hour the tech solved it for me ... we did a screen sharing and she took control of my computer for a loooong time.  Because of language difficulties, at first I wondered if she knew what she was doing but she eventually solved it.  Although she couldn't explain exactly what she was doing, she summarized it by saying "it was a permissions problem."  I asked if I would have the same issue later when I installed it on my laptop (Macbook Air).  She said probably not.
But I did.  The same internal error popup arose on launch and launch did not complete on my laptop.  I tried chat but no joy so I eventually called Apple Care.  I had noticed that on my laptop (and the iMac for that matter), that there was no Library folder after my user name.  The Apple tech explained that the Library folder is actually there but it is hidden because it's very easy for users to do some very nasty things to their computer by going astray while in the Library folder.  The folder is actually there, but they hide it.  I did remember seeing that the tech helping me with my iMac had typed the work "Library" while she was controlling my computer.  Basically she had activated the hidden Library folder so she could open the path that Lightroom was trying to follow to create that "Develop Presets" folder.  For some reason, the inability to create that folder in the launch process was preventing launch from being completed.  The Apple tech said she didn't actually have to do that and activated the Library folder by use of the Go selection on the menu bar.  Anyway, once that complete path was replicated and opened, the next step was to go to the Lightroom Permissions field and add my user name to the user categories already there and enable "read and write" permissions to my user name.  Once done, I shut down my laptop, and then rebooted.  I launched Lightroom and then boom, voila, heavens to betsy, etc. it launched and suddenly a dismal weekend turned into a great one.
I am not a geek, so I hope this makes some sense.  I also hope Lightroom launches again tomorrow and beyond!
