Using Oracle driver 10.1

Hi,
Our application is running on weblogic 8.1 SP5 and Oracle 9i and we are using ojdbc14.jar for Oracle 9i. Recently there has been an issue with a query written in Java which takes long time to execute. We have modified the query and upgraded the ojdbc jar to version 10.1.
It is working fine as a standalone application but before deploying it for integration testing wanted to check if there could be any issues using this configuration?
If there are any known issues around using Oracle 10 driver, please let me know.
Appreciate your help.
Thanks
Minal

MinalNone. The 10g driver is good. I would suggest the latest version from Oracle,
the 10.2 version.

  • Problems with Drive Mapping using Oracle Drive

It seems as though we are having some trouble with oracle drive. The install was a piece of cake, as was the configuration. The problem arises when at times we connect with the proper credentials, Oracle Drive logs the user in, but then the appropriate drive does not map. Nothing shows up under "My computer". The window will launch for the user to use Oracle Drive, but they get error messages including, "Cannot support long file names." (AKA, anything longer than 8 characters).
Has anyone else come across these issues? Any ideas how to resolve. The issues we get with the long file names seem to only be when the drive doesn't properly map.
    Any thoughts would be helpful.
Also, I have heard rumors of a Production version of Oracle Drive. Anyone have some news on that?

We are very pleased to announce the Production Release 10.1.2.0 of Oracle Drive.
You can download the software from here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/cs/index.html
    Note:
    - This version is production for English only. Other languages are Beta.
    - Oracle Drive 10.1.2.1 for ALL languages is expected soon.
Find more information on Installation and Configuration as well as a Viewlet that shows Oracle Drive in Action here:

  • Using Oracle driver in JDBC for Unix and Linux based servers

Please, let me know how to mention the Oracle driver within the forName.class(" "); statement in the Jdbc-Servlet for Unix and Linux based servers.
I'm using Windows-OS for Java programming. Should I have to use the same environment(Unix/Linux with Oracle) for compiling or just compiling, mentioning the driver in the java program would suffice?
    Please, Help me.
    Thank You.

I've used Oracle's thin driver like this:
    Class.forName ( "oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver" );
    Connection DBConnection = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:USER/PASSWD@database" );
You need Oracles client classes ( e.g. classes111.zip ) at run time, not during compilation.
Thin client connects directly to the Oracle DB, so the database description is like PORT:MACHINE:SID
Connection is made through Oracle's listener even when your DB is in the same machine that your program is running. Port number is propably 1521 or 1526, depending on your listener.ora definitions and used Oracle SQL*Net version.

  • Why getting WebLogic Connection when using Oracle Driver?

Does anyone know why I would be getting back an instance of weblogic.jdbc.rmi.SerialConnection
when retrieving a connection out of the connection pool, via my JDBC TX DataSource,
when my JDBC Connection pool is configured to use oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver. Seems
that since I'm using the Oracle driver I should not be getting back this WebLogic
    connection.

    Joseph,
Thanks for the insight. This answers a lot of questions. I appreciate
    the thorough
explanation. Your assumption is correct. I am trying to use an Oracle
    extension,
specifically I need to call PreparedStatement.setBlob() passing an instance
    of
an Oracle BLOB.empty_lob(). I'll take a look at the WLS documentation
    for an
    alternative.

such as cooperating under-the-covers with the transaction coordinator
    to provide
    EJB/UserTransaction transactional semantics/guarantees, regardless of
    the number
of EJBs involved in a given transaction. For instance, when in an EJB/UserTransaction,
our wrapper will cheerfully ignore if application code calls a Connection.commit().
    The
application code has no idea really when the transaction is done and
    commitable, only
the transaction coordinator does. Most simply, our pools guarantee that
    whatever
application reserves a pool connection will have sole use of it until
    they close the connection
to return it to the pool. If we allowed direct access to a pooled connection,
    one application
could cache the reference, and re-use it later when we presumed to allow
    another user to
use it from the pool. Some of our wrapper objects are RMI-enabled so
    they work in
external client JVMs and will do JDBC over the wire to the weblogicserver
    and it's
pool connections. This wayt application code need not change to work
    inside or
    outside weblogic.
I suspect this question is because you want to use some of Oracle's
    non-standard
extensions to JDBC. Our wrappers do provide access to various non-standard
Oracle methods, and we document how to cast (to our concret class or
    to an interface we
define) in order to access these calls. Not all calls can be successfully
    proxied by our wrappers
because some Oracle methods (which claim to take java.sql object asarguments)
    actually
require oracle specific classes, and reject our proxies, even if they
    are standard JDBC objects.

  • Problem with path length when using oracle drive

    Hello!
Does anybody else experience this problem with Oracle Drive?
When I create a deep or nested hierarchy in which the path length is longer than 250 (the limit might be 255) characters, I cannot access the deeper subpages.
Example:"X:\INET\START1\pfadlaengentest\das istein langer ordnername mit etwa 50 zeichen\and this is another veryveryvery long\and this is another veryveryvery lon2\and this is another veryveryvery lon3\and this is another veryveryvery lon4\and this is another veryveryvery lon5".
I can access the page "and this is another veryveryvery lon4" but not "and this is another veryveryvery lon5"
Is this problem due to WebDAV?
What can I do - I think it is a critical error / bug?
    Regards Joerg.

I opened a service request and oracle support could help me.
The problem is the windows file system: the path length cannot be longer than 256 chars.
    There's a workaround with MS-Webfolders.
More information is available via metalink: watch out for SR-Number 5659267.992.

  • Oracle Drive:  Icon Not Displayed in "My Computer"

I have a couple of users who are using Oracle Drive, and they have no problem connecting, and they have the "Open Explorer window after connection" option selected. However, if they accidentally close the Explorer window, and try to go back into "My Computer" and find the icon for the drive to open it, it's not displayed. However they are actually still connected to the drive. Both of these users are running WinXP, SP2, and have all current Windows updates, patches, etc. We also have about 20 other users with the same OS and environment who are not having this problem. All of these users are in a domain controller (Windows Active Directory Server 2003) environment. This is not a huge issue, but are there any ideas as to why this is happening?

try to check with some one from microsoft as this error happens even with a local driver under windows. Or u can re-install windows again!!

  • Oracle Drive specific features not working

I have set up Oracle Drive against two 10gR2 instances. Both of them fail with different messages.
There are no issues with MS Web Folders, also most of this functionality works in Oracle Drive.
When I try to use Drive specific functionality like "set properties", this fails with following messages.
    1. One of them fails with HTTP-404 after using machine name in the URL as opposed to using Virtual Host name
    2. Second one fails with similar error message but this is missing virtual host name or server name in the URL.
I can't find any Oracle Drive logs to debug. So, my questions are ..
    1. how can I debug Oracle debug?
    2. Does Oracle drive support virtual host?
    3. If so, why is the above behaviour
Users are keen to use Oracle Drive. So, any help (ASAP) would be appreciated.

    Hi Christian,
Sorry I didn't get back to you so far. I just noticed that this account is using old email address and I didn't recieve any update when you replied.
Here are some answers to your questions.
    0) Bye the way one of the servers works now after recent portal repository copy (ptlconfig was run as part of it)
    1) I tested view page, access control and set properties options. All of these fail.
    2) I was looking for log files in the wrong place. Found them now and from the logs, it looks like one of the sites is not getting proper values for OPTIONS query.
Here is the reply from server that works.

  • Oracle drive Advanced Properties...

I have installed Oracle drive on my desktop and using that I am able to access my content server.
But when I right click on the file in content services using oracle drive I have certain options displayed one of them is the "Advance Properties". I want to explore these features. On clicking this I am getting a message "Advanced Properties is not supported by this server" what is to be done on my server to support the advanced features.

Please note the currently Oracle Drive is supported only with Oracle Content Services server. So it cannot be used with a generic WebDAV server.

  • Oracle Drive hanging

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this but I'm not getting any luck anywhere else !
I have been using Oracle Drive to connect to Oracle Files Online (files.oraclecorp.com) and map a Windows drive to a shared folder. This has worked very well until about a month ago. Now when I try to "Work Online" Oracle Drive prompts for the password then just displays the "Connecting to the remote host" and never completes.
    Things I have tried:
    1) Installed the latest version (I now have 10.2.0.0.12 WinXP)
    2) Changed my SSO password
    3) Tried redefining the connection in Oracle Drive
    4) Tried connecting to other WebDav servers (I tried iprojects-files and stcontent)
    None of these things worked.
I am running Windows XP SP3. Could this have anything to do with the SP3 upgrade ?
Please can someone help me, I miss Oracle Drive !
    Regards
    Martin

Am running Oracle 10GR2 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 (Nahant Update 5).
No problems with connectivity. Database instance is running fine and so are the client binaries.
There were some issues like installing/enabling kernel async_io - but these would only be applicable if you're trying to run an Oracle instance.
Are you connecting to a local instance, or are you using a network connection?
If a local connection, SQL*Plus will (via OCI) launch an oracle process from $ORACLE_HOME/bin and attached itself to it. That process will be the dedicated server process for SQL*Plus.
If a network connection, SQL*Plus will open a tcp connection (via OCI) to the Oracle server platform.
Obviously, "hanging" when connecting means a very different software layer for each.
You will need to supply some more detail. A copy and paste of the actual ssh/telnet session that hangs, the environment settings (ORACLE_HOME, TNS_ADMIN, ORACLE_SID, etc), and details of the type of connection (if a network connection, the TNS alias definition), and so on.

  • Oracle Drive Locking Issue

    Hi,
We have Oracle Drive installed with Oracle 10.1.2 Portal. When a user opens an MS
Word file, immediately in the MS Windows Explorer window, the STATUS attribute
shows "Locked by <user>", where <user> is the userid of the user.
However, the STATUS attribute for other users on other computers using Oracle
Drive with MS Windows Explorer do not immediately see this "Locked by <user>"
message. Is there a way to get this message propagated immediately to the other
users so that they do not open the file expecting to be able to write to the file?
It takes the other users a while and a lot of hitting the REFRESH menu option
to see this propagated to all of the other users.

I'v found the problem. I need to le empty in the port box...
    So, thank you :)

  • Scripting Oracle Drive

Can I create a script to create the mapped drive using oracle drive. I want to push this out company wide and do not want to rely on the users following directions. I want all the drives mapped as the same drive and would like to create a script that I can use as a login script to map the drive. Is this possible? Is the configurations stored in a config file or where are they?

The configuration for each Oracle Drive service is stored in the registry.
So long as Oracle Drive is not running, new services can be added directly to the registry (and will be available upon OD startup).
For each new Oracle Drive service, add a new key under
    HKCU\Software\TeamStream\TeamDrive\Connections\WebDAV Servers\
Under the key, add the following new values :-
    ServerID - ORACLE (STRING)
    Proto - 3 hex (DWORD)
    Server - e.g. myserver.com (STRING)
    ServerDir - e.g. content\dav\ (STRING)
    Username - e.g. matt (STRING)
Port - e.g. 50 hex, or 1E61 hex (DWORD (Dec 80=50 Hex, Dec 7777=1E61 hex))
    LastDrive - e.g. 19 hex (DWORD (Dec 19=25 Hex, Dec 4 for E:, Dec 7 for H:, Dec 25 for Z:)
Specify a "ReconnectTo" DWORD option to the value of the LastDrive option, if you want service to automatically start each time Oracle Drive starts.
    Example .reg file :-
    REGEDIT4
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\TeamStream\TeamDrive\Connections\WebDAV Servers\Content1Root]
    "Server"="content1.au.oracle.com"
    "ServerDir"="content\\dav"
    "ServerID"="ORACLE"
    "Username"="matt"
    "Port"=dword:00001E61
    "Proto"=dword:00000003
    "LastDrive"=dword:00000019
    "ReconnectTo"=dword:00000019
In the above sample, whenever Oracle Drive launches, a Z: is automatically mapped to http://content1.au.oracle.com:7777/content/dav using the username matt. The password would be prompted.
If the username entry is left out, Oracle Drive will prompt for both username and password.
    Matt.

  • Error in creating Connection Pool using Oracle Thin Driver

    Hi,
I am trying to create a connection pool in WS 5.1 with sp #6 using Oracle Thin Driver (oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver) on a Sun box. But I am able to create the pool using weblogic.jdbc.oci.Driver. I get an DBMS Driver exception when I use thin driver. I have LD library path and weblogic class path set correctly. WL shows the following exception :
    weblogic.common.ResourceException: weblogic.common.ResourceException:
Could not create pool connection. The DBMS driver exception was:
java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the

Any help on this is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Hi Ramu,
Please post your connection pool setting here. You might have missed some
port/server info. The driver is unable to connect to the db server here.

Yes. I am trying to create a connection pool in weblogic and I have theweblogic
class path setup correctly. It points to classes111.zip andnls_charset11.zip.

Did you setup the JDBC library classpath correctly?
For me, e.g. Oracle 7.3.4, the classpath should be:
    export CLASSPATH = /oracle7.3.4/jdbc/lib/classes.zip:%CLASSPATH%
Noted that the JDBC classpath must be the first classpath element in
    the export
    statement.
