Which mobile broadband dongle can I use for my PowerBook G4 running with OSX 10.5.8 please?

I was given an O2 dongle E173 as a gift but cannot use it as the specification is for an Intel Processor which of course the PowerBook G4 does not have!
Which dongle can  I use?

Hi,
If a USB mobile broadband modem for some reason cannot be used with a certain computer, a good alternative can be a mobile broadband hotspot. This is a device (with a SIM card) that works like a mobile broadband modem, and is capable of establishing a wireless base station. The wireless connection between the computer and the hotspot is normal Wi-Fi. If the computer can handle Wi-Fi, there is no need for any additional software/driver installation. Below is merely one example.

  • Which external USB HDD can i use for backups

    Hi,
I'm going to buy an external USB HDD for my MacBook for bootable backups (by SuperDuper). Can I purchase just any external hard drive or are there any limitations?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The limitations are the usual reliability and manufacturer's reputation. USB 2.0 (480Mbps) itself will cause no issues when making your choice. It's not possible to give a definitive answer on which manufacturer/make/model is best but I can give you an opinion. I like Iomega and Hitachi. For plug-and-play look at Iomega or D-I-Y using an Icy Box look at Hitachi Deskstar range.

  • Whether PXI can be used for Event data logging in an electrical Substation ?

Whether the NI PXI system can be used for recording digital event data with 1 ms accuracy ?Whether its DI boards support onboard timestamping ? Whether PXI can be synchronized with time pulses from a GPS receiver ?

Yes indeed, there is a digital event recorder example in developer zone, search for "digital time interval" on NI developer zone, or follow this link: http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/niepd_web_display.DISPLAY_EPD4?p_guid=B45EACE3DCA356A4E034080020E74861&p_node=DZ52336&p_submitted=N&p_rank=&p_answer=&p_source=External
In addition, we have done additional work to create a template for the LabVIEW FPGA, http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/nioc.vp?cid=11829〈=US
which has 96 digital I/O lines as well as 8 analog in. With the NI-7831R you are able to combine analog and digital events in the electrical substation.
Further, using PXI, we can synchronize with a GPS time stamp such as IRIG-B, and perform these functions all in a headless - real-time OS LabVIEW.

    Hi,
Unfortunately this is not very simple BUT you can use PCMCIA and 32-bit Cardbus slot and buy something like this for your machine:

  • Which software can i use for recovery management that will allow me to use DVD's instead of Flashdsk

which software can i use for recovery management that will allow me to use DVD's instead of Flashdisk? I find DVD's easier to use. i am using windows 10

As the other posters wrote in order to take a movie file and turn it into a DVD that can be played in standard DVD players you need a DVD authoring application. That you need a separate program to create the DVD is standard procedure and has been that way since the beginning. All Apple produce that can produce video files require an external authoring program. iMovie, iPhoto and Final Cut all do this.
One other thing I will comment on is your choice of output format. You will almost certainly be disappointed with the video quality of your finished DVD if you put a HD video on a SD DVD. Unless you plan to burn a bluray disk you will get a better quality video if you output as SD if you plan to burn to an SD disk.

  • Interface/class which can be used for obtaining exchange rates of currency

Is there any interface or class in the java package which can be used for obtaining current exchange rates of currencies ?

Yes. The people at Sun change the static fields every day to reflect the current prices on the world currency markets at GMT 12:00. Then every day all the java programmers around the world reinstall a new JDK that contains the updated class. The class is called:
    EuroDollarDollarEuroDollarYenYenDollarYenEuroEuroYenRubleDollarDollarRuble
To access the Euro-Dollar exchange rate, you write:
    EuroDollarDollarEuroDollarYenYenDollarYenEuroEuroYenRubleDollarDollarRuble.EURODOLLAR

  • USB mobile broadband dongle randomly disconnects

This is really driving me mad. I had to get a USB dongle for my net connection because I couldn't afford a wired net connection, and after spending hours on the phone trying to get the tech support people to tell me what details I could enter into NetworkManager so I could use it as they don't publish a non-proprietary-software guide on their site, I finally managed to get it to work.
Asides from the connection being crap (I live in a small country town so even ordinary mobile phones get < 3 bars), I've found that the device disconnects for no apparent reason, like it just shuts down. NetworkManager can't reboot it, unplugging it and plugging it in again doesn't fix it, and it seems the only solution is to reboot my computer (just like Windows huh). I've read somewhere that Huawei devices are supposed to be flipped to their modem state for them to work properly, but I'm not entirely sure how to do this, and don't really want to risk borking the device as it's the only net connection I've got for the time being.
Where should I look to find debug information from the device and how to stop it from disabling itself after several hours? And are the usb_modeswitch and similar programs safe, i.e. are they likely to work as expected without totally messing up the device?

I hope you have solved this problem by now but just in case here is my experience:-
I have had this problem with on 2 different linux and windows machines. In my case it turned out to be a mechanical problem.  The USB sockets are very unreliable and for some reason particularly so with USB mobile broadband dongles.  In the first case the machine had front usb ports.  When the dongle was plugged into the front ports the connection was very unreliable and when plugged directly to the motherboard ports at the rear there was no problem.
In the second case I was using a long usb cable as the signal strength at the PC was too weak for broadband connection. In this case the connection to the usb socket at the end of the cable was very loose so the internet connection would dropout for no apparent reason and as with your experience I would have to reboot to get it going again. This was an expensive usb cable too, so price was no guide to reliability.

  • Which Mobile Networks Operator could be used to send SMS through SKYPE in China?

Which Mobile Networks Operator could be used to send SMS through SKYPE in China?

I actually found a workable solution, based off of your suggestion.
Sprint has partnered with Google to integrate native Google Voice onto the iPhone, using your existing Sprint phone number, for free. The only downside is, you loose visual voicemail. But, you can set Google Voice to transcribe my voicemails and send them via email, which I hear can be quite funny when it gets it wrong.
But, not being a fan of Google's "all or nothing" approach, where they take over all your sms, voicemail, and calls, I opted to set up a free account and use Google Hangouts app to make outgoing calls. Using it this way, with out applying for a Google Voice number, or switching  my Sprint number over to Google, the caller ID just says "No Caller ID", which is ideal, since having an additional phone number pop up, might lead to confusion as to which one to use to contact me.
So, thanks for pointing me  in  the right direction.  It's not perfect, as I imagine many friends will kick me over to voicemail when the see "no caller ID" pop up on  their phones, but it'll get the job done.
    Problem solved.

  • Suggestion for whether CDLC + MIDP platform can be used for this scenario?

    Hi,
I am developing an agent for mobile phones, with a solution which will cover most of the mobile phones (with OS Microsoft ME, Symbian, Blackberry RIM,..) and PDA's
    Features of the agent:
Sending mobile inventory details like OS, apps running, etc to a server machine
Installing apps/patches from server to mobiles
Will the CDLC + MIDP platform be suitable for this kind of development?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Memory modules can we use for RAM upgrade of HP Pavilion dv5-1198de??

What memory modules can we use for RAM upgrade of HP Pavilion dv5-1198de??
    Max RAM?  Vista?  Windows 7?

I can't find a dv5-1198de but I did find a dv5-1198er which should be similiar. It states up to 8 gb of ram. HERE
I would try www.Crucial.com for suggested memory ,you can use their Scanner Tool to let it detect what you have and what you can upgrade/replace with.

I have a Time Capsule with 2tb of storage, and an I-Mac with 500Gb. (which is at capacity) Can I use the Time Capsule to store data from my hard drive that I want to access later in addition to backing up the hard drive?

Can I use the Time Capsule to store data from my hard drive that I want to access later in addition to backing up the hard drive?
Yes, but if you move the "original" data on your iMac to the Time Capsule....then the "original" data is now on the Time Capsule disk.
When...not if...the Time Capsule disk has a problem, you have no backups for this data.
Perhaps a much safer plan might be to add an external hard drive attached directly to your iMac. Then, move the data to that drive from the iMac.
Now, Time Machine will back up both your iMac and the external hard drive so you have "originals" on one drive and backups on another. Would that plan work for you?

    Thanks,
Yes, I did that. They have uppgrades for the dongles, but just untill Mac Os 10.7. Their solution is to buy a new modem from them or getting one for free if I sign a contract for 24 months! So, i think from that side not very helpful.
It is just that I do not want to buy a new modem, when it works in quite recent computers and after having spent money in the new Mac.
But thank you for your reply!

  • What brands and type can I use for my iMac 20" internal Hard Drive?

what brands and type can I use for my iMac 20" aluminium internal Hard Drive?
can I use WD caviar black?
    is it too hot?

If you are replacing the drive because the existing one is faulty, that's one thing. If you just want more space, you should take advantage of having a decently fast and relatively small capacity drive in there now (instead of a huge drive). Get an external FireWire drive and off-load most of your user data there. Make your internal drive dedicated to mostly your OS and app files, with plenty of free space. That setup will make your iMac run more efficiently. I won't go into more detail, because I'm not answered your specific question... You can post back with any questions, if interested...
    To answer your questions...
You should be able to use any SATA 3.5-inch drive internally, but you should probably keep it at or under 1TB. The main concerns are power usage and heat dissipation. A drive like the WD Caviar Green would be ideal in terms of power and heat, but they do have slower (or variable) spin rate. I have one as an external drive (750GB) and it is amazingly quiet and cool. If I had to replace the internal drive because the current drive failed, I'd put it inside. I'll trade a bit of pure performance for the efficiency (including low noise), and these drives are more advanced with higher data density and larger cache, so the trade-off from slower spin rate may not be so bad.
You can check your current drive's model number (which is shown in System Profiler) to get the specs online. The stock drive in my old +Late 2006+ iMac is a 7200 RPM drive. The Caviar Black is a 7200 RPM drive, with a newer design. So if you want to use a Caviar Black in there, I think it would be OK.
