1.3 JNI libraries compatible with 1.4?

I'm having some problems migrating my software from J2SE 1.3 to 1.4 (on Linux).
I've not recompiled anything, hoping for Sun's binary code compatibility...
Strangely enough, the first time I executed my program with the 1.4 VM,
everything worked just fine. The same program had been running in the 1.3 VM just before that.
But after rebooting the machine I encountered the first problem - the java program could
not find my JNI libraries anymore, generating a UnresolvedLinkError.
*Why did my 1.3- but not the 1.4-environment find the JNI ?
Before, I didn't need the LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable, but now I used it and set it to the directory where the JNI libs are. This solved the UnresolvedLinkError problem - fine!
BUT, when I now start up my program it takes about 2 minutes to get it up and after that it works
real slow....
Running with the -verbose flag I see that it hangs for a long while after loading the PlainSocketImpl

I just wanted to tell you that now I've recompiled my Java files but the program still
stalls on start-up as before.
I've not yet recompiled the JNI files, although I can't see why that should be needed.
My command line looks as follows:
/usr/j2re1.4.0/bin/java -server -verbose -verbose:jni -classpath /usr/Shared.jar:/usr/Server.jar ServerClass 123 JNIlib1 JNIlib2 JNIlib3 JNIlib4
(123 is the port number for the server to listen to.)
Something fishy is obviously happening during or after loading java.net.PlainSocketImpl

[Newbie] Bundling App classes+ util jars with jni libraries

Hi,
first off, im a noob if it gets to creating archives... I can make a simple archive if I dont have special depedancies but beyond that... :)
I have my app's classes and two utility jar files which also need respective jni libraries.
Can I pack all of it in an archive for zero deploy or do the jni libraries need to be installed?

Since the jni-Libraries (or .so/.dll if you're doing a multi-platform deploy) contain native code, they have to be loaded and memory-mapped by the OS, so I'd guess that they have to be deployed seperately from your .jar file.
They don't however need to be installed into the system and can reside in a seperate directory in the applications directory structure. Then you will only have to tell the JRE about this directory (let's call it "./lib"):
java -Djava.library.path=./lib -jar myapp.jar

The provider is not compatible with the version of Oracle client

We are running Server 2012 64 bit with multiple homes one is 32 bit and the other 64 bit. We installed the 64 bit first then the 32 bit next in order to get our Classic ASP WebSite that is using COM+ and OLEDB to see the provider.
C:\oracle\product\12.1.0\x86
C:\oracle\product\12.1.0\x64
The other Websites are ASP.Net 4.0 and are running in 64 bit application pools. They are using a DAL .Net assembly built x64 with a reference to the 64 bit ODP.Net version 4.121.1.0 in C:\oracle\product\12.1.0\X64\client_1\odp.net\bin\4.
I also see there is another folder C:\oracle\product\12.1.0\X64\odac_1\odp.net\bin\2.x with version 2.121.2.0. We are on running Framework 4.0 but when I switch to this version it works but with the version out of the bid\4 we are receiving the following error when the 64 bit Websites call the assembly:

Oracle Client/ODP build with certified Visual C++ Libraries so application using ODP.NET requires "runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries" to be installed.
Oracle Database Client installation includes the Visual C++ Libraries but ODAC doesn't contain these libraries which may cause such issue.
Please check the Note 43208.1 for the particular version of Visual C++ installs with Oracle Database Client installation(e.g. 11.2.0 Database Client installs Visual C++ .NET 2005) and also you can refer the windows event log error massage to verify which version of Visual C++ is missing.

How can I install a version of Safari compatible with MacOS 7.5

At some point I downloaded and installed Safari 6.0.2 on a MacBook Pro (4.1) running OS 10.7.4. When I tried to open it, an error message appeared stating that this version of Safari is incompatible with OS 10.7.x and is compatible with OS 10.8. Since then I updated to OS 10.7.5. After completing the update the iCloud System Preferences automatically opened. Next to the Bookmarks Icon was a button saying "Install Safari." Pushing this button brings me to a webpage that appears to be advertising copy for Safari but seems to lack any option for downloading Safari. Searching for an OS 10.7.5 compatible version I came across a page with quite a number of Safari downloads at Apple - Support - Downloads. This page offers dowloads of Saafari for earlier versions of Safari, but not for an OS 10.7.x compatible version of Safari. What is the solution? If I upgraded to OS 10.8 or OS 10.9 would I gain access to Safari once again? I'd be most appreciative of any help with this issue. Thanks.

1.4.2.04 Binary Compatible with 1.3.1.07?

OS is Solaris 7 on SPARC. Have an app built with 1.3.1.07. Building againt 1.4.2.04 is futile because of the import statement (package-less classes) issue.
Attempted to run the app against JVM 1.4.2.04, and get JVM core dumps... log file (created by JVM) does not know exact method, but stated that error was near call JVM_GelClassLoader. App is C++ that communicates with Java classes via JNI.
Is 1.3.1.07 binary compatible with 1.4.2.04?

Is Adobe Premiere Elements 10 compatible with OS X Yosemite?

I have Adobe Premiere Elements 10 that I use on my IMAC. I recently updated my operating system to OS X Yosemite and when I go to use the add menus portion of the the program it consistently crashes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Premiere Elements 10 and it still crashes when trying to add disc menu's to my movie? Is Adobe Premiere Elements 10 not compatible with OS X Yosemite? Do I need to upgrade my version of Adobe Premiere Elements for the program to work? Larry

I am strictly an Elements Windows person and do not have a Mac computer to road test this one. I do remember that question being asked before. My recollection is that Premiere Elements 10 is, but it a recollection which I would need to research. Most of the threads with that question can be found unanswered.
Does Premiere Elements 10 run on Yosemite?
Most of the "Elements" discussions with information revolve around Photoshop Elements Mac and Yosemite.
Are you running the program as Administrator and do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer? Is it only disc menus that bring the project down? Is it all disc menus or just one or two that are involved in the issue?
But, first I would ask "What video card/graphics card are your computer use?" Therein may be the problem if the card is a NVIDIA GeForce one.
You could try delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file which I believe can be found in Mac
Users/Owner/Libraries/Application Support/Adobe/Premiere Elements/10.0
Please review and consider.

USB monitor not compatible with iPhoto or Maps?

My AOC USB display will not show photos in iPhoto (other than thumbnails), nor will it show maps in the Maps app. The manufacturer tells me this is something Apple needs to remedy. Does anyone know of a third party solution? I've heard there is some kind of hardware USB graphics adapter but I don't know if that will solve this problem.

Do you have a memory card in the phone that you can transfer the photos to? If so, you can get an inexpensive card reader and use it. That's how I get photos from my LG onto my HD.

Iphoto08 not compatible with RAW shot via Canon Powershot SD850 IS

Lifehacker posted an interesting article recently whereby you could enable RAW shooting mode on a consumer grade point-and-shoot Canon digital camera by using a free open source project called CHDK.

I've installed this software on my camera (Powershot SD850IS) but unfortunately iPhoto is unable to upload RAW images captured on my camera. I'm guessing this is because RAW on a Canon SD850 is not supported (naturally, when RAW isn't a supported feature on my Canon).
Does anyone know if there is a way to upload these RAW pictures into iPhoto, or whether I will have to use a 3rd party app, like photoshop, to do my editing before being converting into JPEG before uploading into iPhoto08.

Adobe has an application that will convert the RAW files into DNG format which iPhoto can use. Get it here: Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh : Adobe .... You can check to see if it supports your Canon.

Vivitar Mini Digital Camera not compatible with iMac?

I bought this Vivitar Mini Digital Camera the other day, and it came with software that isn't compatible with my computer. I checked out a few boards, and a few more boards, only to find out that other people with Macs were having the same problem. No one really had a solution for this problem. I connected the USB cable, and tried to see if maybe iPhoto or Image Capture would allow me to import photos. Neither one would. The software that came with the camera say "Arcsoft Photo Impression4.0". On one of the message boards, I remember someone posting something about not to even bother downloading it online because it wouldn't work. I looked on Google for hours, and can't seem to find anyone with answers. Thought I'd throw it out here and see if anyone can help. If not, guess I'm returning the camera!

LG VX8300 not compatible with iphoto???

I have not tried importing photos from my LG VX8300 to iphoto before, and iphoto does not seem to recognize the camera portion of the phone. Is this phone not compatible with iphoto (iLife 08)

What ADF version is compatible with FormsReports 11gR2 install?

Hello everyone,
our customer has installed a vanilla FormsReports 11gR2.
This comes with a WLS 10.3.6 and JRF libraries.
They want to start with ADF development and they wondered what version of ADF is compatible with this FormsReports release?
The same question but differently formulated: how can you see what version of the JRF libraries are used? Looking at the version numbers in the deployment table of the WLS console is not conclusive.

CDC compatible with 1.5 JDK ?

Are there plans to create a CDC version compatible with the desktop J2SE 5.0 (1.5 JDK) ?
A portion of our code base needs to run on J2ME and J2SE. So, we are stuck with JDK 1.4 for compatibility. This ends up forcing the whole project to 1.4. All the nice new language features in 1.5 are great, but we can't use them!

You can use them. Just compile with -target cldc1.0
(Actually, I should say that I've only used generics like this, but I presume since the option is there that it handles the other new features too. Of course, you won't have the new libraries, so you can't do runtime annotation processing).

IMSL C library causes JVM crash through JNI in GC with JDK 1.6

Hi Java friends,
We use the IMSL C library (made by Visual Numerics) via JNI which picks up a C++ so on Linux. Under JDK 1.5 it works fine. Under 1.6 it crashes in the GC. I put together a very simple testcase that just calls the IMSL error options function (which sets up the library) and it causes the JVM to crash somewhere in the GC. The reason I know it's in the GC is that the crash is not immediate, it's only when the GC is active, so we wrote some test code to push the GC like this:

The error occurs much later after the C code has been executed, whilst running the java code (which is just creating string objects to invoke the GC). The C code that we are executing is extremely simple - it consists of Sun's JNI example coupled with a sinlge call to the IMSL error options function:

If I remove the call to imsl_error_options then there is no adverse behaviour - the Java loop completes ok (creating 1 trillion strings in the process) and the manual call the GC works fine. With the call to imsl, the execution gets to the string creation loop (in Java, after the C has been executed) and then it dies pretty quickly (presumably after the GC kicks in to clean up some of the strings).

Is iWork 08 compatible with a new computer running OS X Yosemite?
I have a 2008 Mac Book Pro 15" that I just installed a new solid state 256g hard drive into last night using OS X Yosemite. I just installed iWork 08 from my original disc and now when I try and open a numbers (excel) file that I had created previously its blank except for the email link I created and the response time is very slow for scrolling or right clicking. Is the problem that iWork 08 isn't compatible with Yosemite? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For Numbers '09 to run smoothly under recent OSes, you need to apply the following updater.
iWork 9.3
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1563
* If your Numbers '09 is not from iWork '09 DVD, the updater above would not work because the updater assumes supporting libraries are at
/Library/Application Support/iWork '09
which is the case with the DVD version of Numbers '09 whereas the MAS (Mac App Store) version of Numbers '09 contains supporting libraries in its own application bundle.

PS. If you're not using the latest Numbers v3, you may simply delete it from your disk so that it will no longer mess up the files created with older versions of Numbers.
