1.4.1_02 Upgrade To 1.4.2_06

I have upgraded JRE 1.2.1_02 to 1.4.2_06 sucessfully. Although during testing I noticed that 1.4.1_02 is still available in the preferences settings for Java Web Start. Our client would like this to be disabled. I have tried removing the check for enabling this version and capturing the setting change. Our capture software could not find where the setting was changed (registry, ini file, etc.). After stopping and re-starting Java Web Start the enable box is checked again.
Is release 1.4.1_02 required for the 1.4.2_06 installation ? Is there a way to remove/disable it ? I need a solution to this to satisfy the request of our client. Anyone have any ideas ? Thanks.

The 1.4.2_06 installation does not require any other version. It does not however un-install previous versions automatically. This needs to be done as a seperate step. It can be removed by uninstalling it (from either the Control-Panel => Add/Remove programs)
The Java Web Start will show the packages installed, but it will only use the version you specifiy, so the previous version is effectly disable because it would not be used.)

  • Java version 1.4.2_06 to 1.5.0_08 and 1.5.0_10     vs.   1.6.0_02

Hello. I did a system check on my computer for an onlline course I'm taking and it stated that I am running java version 1.6.0_02 annd thhat I need to upgrade to 1.4.2_06 to 1.5.0_08 and/or 1.5.0_10. It seems to me thought that the numbbers are going backward - and this would bbe an error. Does 1.6.0_02 have thhe capabilities of the othher numbers? what does anyone recommend I do?
    thanks,

They have a bug in their version check. They didn't make it future proof. A program that can execute on e.g. 1.5 should be able to execute on 1.6

  • Upgrading from 1.4.2_04 to 1.4.2_06, 1.4.2_07 or 1.4.2_08 ?

I am in need to upgrade my JMV from 1.4.2_04 due to known JVM issues solved in 1.4.2_06 and newer.
I seek the most stable version and therefore need to pick between 06, 07 or the latest 08.
Which version is considered the less risky more used and more stable atm?

Note that 1.4.2_06 and 1.4.2_07 have

  • Problems upgrading to JRE 1.4.2_06

HI, I'm an application for tradingonline and it requires Java Web Start. Evrything worked well before upgrading with j2re-1_4_2_06-windows-i586-p.exe.
After upgrade my application gets blocked at login phase.
I use Java Web Start 1.4.2_06 (build b03) and in fiel preferences I get problem if under java I flag the runteime environment 1.4.2_06 while everything works correctly flagging only the older 1.3.1_01. I heard the application I use is evolving and in a short time it will loose compatibility with JRE 1.3 so I need to solve this issue. No effective help for the time being from the technical suport of the applciation developers, they don't understand why this happens as it seems I'm the only customer having this problem.
I registered java log activity in a txt file and noticed differences when using JRE 1.3 and trying with 1.4.
Before posting useless information please let me know if you feel there is a way to debug my problem, I will follow the issue trying to give as many infos as possible.

HI, thanks for your answer. I have 2 computers attached to a router. Both computers are equipped with kerio personal firewall and the router has a firewall itself. Due to conflict I always keep kerio disabled. To check if the router's firewall is guilty I simply detached a PC from it and connected thorugh ISDN on a stand alone, same problem, on the other computer I disinstalled kerio, cleaned up the registry from all kerio traces and tried again with the same problem, login succesful with 1.3, no way to get in with 1.4.
Here below I paste part of the logs:

  • Upgrade J2ee Engine 1.4.2_06 to 1.4.2_11

    Hi,
In our production XI3.0 SP16 server j2ee engine sutting down if we run many jobs at a time. Currently we are using j2ee 1.4.2_06 , this problem happend due to j2ee engine unstability.
SAP note says that need to upgrade j2ee from 1.4.2_06 to 1.4.2_11 . Not sure how to do this at OS level and after that where to change parameters for new java 1.4.2_11 settings.
Before that what files/folders need to take backup.Any idea how to upgrade.
    -cheers !

    Hi Lisa,
It's known problem in XI. But Apart from SP06, some more reasons are there....
First, Let me know the RAM size... As utilization increases, due to lack of memory, first J2EE engine stops... Because, J2EE engine needs lots of resources.
    Normally, For 200 Documents/Hr needs 4GB to 6GB RAM.
Next, There are some standard memory parameter setting which should be set by Basis during installation. That can be changed as per requirement like paging area etc. (I am not sure, which one is required). But this too worked for us.

    Audy

  • Com.sun.faces.saveStateFieldMarker after upgrading to JSF 1.1_02

After upgrading from JSF RI 1.1_01 to 1.1_02 , "com.sun.faces.saveStateFieldMarker" is displayed at the bottom on my jsf-page.
I scanned the forums and found some threads about this. However, I haven't found a proper solution to the problem. Any ideas?
    Thanks
    /Alex
By the way, I'm using subviews which, according to other threads, cause this problem?

Yes, I have read this faq.
The thing is that I'm saving the state on the server side:
    <context-param>
      <param-name>javax.faces.STATE_SAVING_METHOD</param-name>
      <param-value>server</param-value>
</context-param>and this contradicts the first lines in the faq:
"This message only appears if the state is saved on the client"
Anyhow, I have gone through the checklist with suggestions and none of them conforms to my project.
I just found out that I only get this problem using specific Ajax funcionality so I think I will move my question to another forum.
    Thanks.

  • Signed java applet is very slow with 1.4.2_06

We have an application which has a signed jar applets was working fine with Java Plug-in (JPI) version 1.4.1_02.
Due to customer requirement they want to run the same applet with JPI version 1.4.2_06, After JPI upgrade the applet is running slow.
I am not sure what sun has changed the security settings in 1.4.2_06. So, Can some one give there thoughts on why would it run slow because of JPI changes.
    Thanks in advance.
    Aj

    Hi,
It is nothing to do with Signed applet.
If URL Connection 's setDefaultCacheUses is set to false then this is causing to run the Applet slow. As it require to download complete jar(if any) everytime.
    From 1.4.1_02 (CachedJarURLConnection.class in jaws.jar):
    public void connect()
    throws IOException
    if(!connected)
    jarFile = JarCache.get(jarFileURL);
    if(jarFile != null)
    {.
    From 1.4.2_06 (CachedJarURLConnection.class in plugin.jar):
    public void connect()
    throws IOException
    if(!connected)
    if(getUseCaches())
    jarFile = JarCache.get(jarFileURL);
    if(jarFile != null)
    {

  • JDev 10.1.2 - JSF 1.1_02 - error hangs entire application

    Hi,
I'm building my first JSF application and an issue has arisen during testing which has us all stumped! Whenever an error occurs for a particular user, the entire application then falls over and all other users then see (different) error messages too.
Let me try to describe the scenario in detail.
    1. 10 users are using the main page of the application quite happily.
    2. Another user logs in and visits a different page in the same application. This page contains a bug.
    3. The application serves the error page to this user as an unhandled exception was thrown when processing the request.
    4. The other 10 users also get the error page even though they have not visited the buggy page! The application has fallen over and requires the container to be restarted.
Steps 1-3 are obvious, but I don't understand step 4 - why should the application fail to continue serving bug-free pages to all other users? Is this the expected behaviour for JSF applications? (Other platforms I've used don't behave this way.)
I can easily replicate this issue by introducing a typo to a component's EL binding. The initial error message is
javax.servlet.jsp.JspException: Error getting property 'thisisatypo' from bean of type com.mypackage.MyBeanAll other users then see a secondary error message:
java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsExceptionOther applications on the app server are not affected.
Is there a way to configure or recode the application to better handle exceptions so that the application itself doesn't hang and other users can continue to use it? Is it a threading issue? Or is this an issue with the application server, which requires reconfiguration to fix it?
A thread on Sun's JSF forum mentions a similar issue, but no-one has answered it: http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=881&threadID=5049367
    My environment:
    JSF: v1.1_02 (Sun JSF RI)
    IDE: JDeveloper 10.1.2.3.0
    Java: 1.4.2_06
App Server: Oracle App Server 10g (OC4J 9.0.4.0.0)
(Upgrading to more recent versions of JSF or application server are not options at the moment - my organisation has already scheduled upgrades sometime within the next 12 months or so, but I cannot bring them forward!)

Hi Frank, thanks for your reply.
I did indeed manually configure JSF for JDev 10.1.2 & Oracle App Server 10g (OC4J 9.0.4), following the instructions provided by Oracle at [http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/howtos/10g/jsf_howto/jsf.html|http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/howtos/10g/jsf_howto/jsf.html]
I have just spent some time porting my application to JDev 10.1.3 & OC4J 10.1.3, as you suggest, and I can confirm that the issue does not appear using this platform.
However, my organisation does not have this version of Oracle App Server in production. As I indicated in my first post, an upgrade from 9.0.4 to a newer version (tbc) should occur sometime in the next 12 months, but we undertook this project on the basis that JSF would work on Oracle App Server 10g (OC4J 9.0.4), as per the "how to" above.
If this is not the correct forum to pursue this issue, where, or with whom, should I?
    Many thanks,

  • JRE 1.3.1_02 does not work with new Nvidia drivers - HELP!

I am a user and not a developer but this problem really does bite the big one. I have had installed JRE 1.3.1 and have used it to run LimeWire file sharing program for a long time (LimeWire is a java program from www.limewire.com) and also use it to see java applets on web pages in IE 6.
I have since upgraded my Nvidia video drivers to version 2.8.3.2 which is the latest official release at this time from Nvidia. Since doing this I have no java at all anymore. Limewire refuses to run at all and there is an error report generated in it's resident directory. If I go to http://java.sun.com, IE hangs and then dissappears, leaving a bug report on my desktop. It seems that JRE does not like the new NT OpenGL dll at all in the new Nvidia drivers and will not run at all. The dll that causes the problem is:
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvoglnt.dll
I upgraded JRE to version 1.3.1_02 because Sun says this is the latest version and runs on XP which is what I have. Still java does not run at all anymore and I get the same bug reports. Has anyone found a workaround for this problem? This really stinks because now I cannot use LimeWire at all and if any web page has java on it, it dissappears right away and there is no more browser on my desktop. The only way I can even visit http://java.sun.com is if I use a Java blocking applet to filter out java applets on web pages.
Please address this issue in JRE development and release a patch for it or a workaround.
    Thank you for reading this.

    Chuck,
I stumbled in here looking for help, I am a PC user,
not a coder or developer (How sad. <g>). I checked for
updates to the Nvidia driver (none), Windows XP (not
at this time), and DirectX 8.1 (not at this time,
these come on the XP updates page so far as I know.)
    Not too suprising...
I have no idea of how to implement your suggestion on
how to disable the JMV use of DirectX overal in my XP
envornment. I guess that using Internet Explorer 6 to
see web pages with Java on them are pretty much out of
the question for now but I would be happy as a clam if
I could get my LimeWire application going again.
LimeWire is called via a desktop or Start menu
    shortcut in this fashion:
    Target Box: C:\WINDOWS\system32\javaw.exe -cp .
    RunLime
    Start In (directory): "C:\Program Files\LimeWire 1.7"
So it appears that java is called via the javaw.exe
file and passes a cp argument (whatever that is), then
there is a period separator (dunno why) and then the
"RunLime" statement that calls up the LimeWire
program.to implement the suggestion, simply add -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true between "javaw.exe" and "-cp" separating it from them by a space on each side. Your result should look something like this:
    c:\windows\system32\javaw.exe -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true -cp . RunLime
    >
I cannot see any need for fancy graphic acceleration
or DirectX being called to play for this application
since it is basicly a file manager that shares.
Nothing fancy about it.It's not the application choosing to do this, but Java itself. Java GUI applications specifically those who use the Swing GUI classes (like LimeWire, if I recall) automatically leverage DirectX. This is really valuable for Swing applications since they emulate Windows (or Mac or Motif) GUI widgets rather than using them, making fast access to display buffers important to ensure best performance.
    >
Do you have any idea of how to pass your
    "-Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true" statement to disable
DirectX into the above call to start java and
    LimeWire?See above.

Hanging by the edge of my seat, waiting for more input
on this. Thank you for your time and suggestions.

  • Can't drop components on new page after upgrading to Update 5

    Please need some help.
Today I upgraded to Update5. I created a new page in an elder project, created with the prev version.
When trying to drop a component on the Designer a got following error-message: You cannot drop components on plan HTML documents, only on web forms.
Dropping a component on a prev created page went well.
I created a new project, created a new page and dropping a component was OK.
Then I examined the source in the misbehaving project. The newer template code differs from the elder. But the newer template codes matches in both projects.
Following the code and my log.
    thx in advance, gerald
This is the newer template code:

    Hello,
It's possible there are errors in your project and
because the previous release wasn't as strict in
    detecting errors.
    Update 5 is more strict.
One thing you can do is make sure in your Java source
files that all references are accounted for.
e.g. If you have any library references (jars mounted, such
as Web services) make sure all jars are available
Also, if you're using getContext() method in any of your
Java source, temporarily change this method to getFacesContext()
Please see blog for more info

MyFaces got my vote on this one...

I could be really mean right now in my answer.
I did not even have to post anything, i choose to use MyFaces 1.2.1 and scraped JSF 1.2_06 SUN RI out of my projects lib folder.
Sorry dude that's the reality, the exceptions the SUN RI threw does not help me in trying to work on real life applications.
You know i have read that Sun RI implementation is probably best out there since work began on the 1.2 spec way before Apache MyFaces started, hence potentially less buggy.
I picked up the latest code from SUN RI and encountered at least 3 exceptions that are very low level and hard to mitigate.
While without any JSF pages modifications i plugged in MyFaces 1.2.1-Snapshot and not a single NullPointerException or a failure.
I just want to reflect here on this situation because i have been always defending SUN and it's work against other packages
but my situation with upgrading from 1.1 to JSF 1.2 really puts a dent in my conviction
specially where UI is such a risky business for us developers in the Web industry.
this Forum probably is taking me longer then if i just logged the issue against RI.
But my point is that when such frameworks are being developed they should be tested against real large applications under many industry problems.
I am after getting this point across, because right now i don't care if you these exceptions are being fixed i dumped your packages anyway.
Now i know MyFaces have their own problems, but at this moment they are not my issues, my project works using their implementation and that's the story .

  • Discoverer 10.1.2.48.18 and Java 1.4.2_06

    Hi Discov Gurus,
We have discoverer Version 10.1.2.48.18 installed on the server. When some user wants to access discoverer reports he goes to Internet Explorer and gives the URL that points to discoverer PLUS.
DIscoverer PLUS works default with Java 1.4.2_06 but if the User PC has multiple Java or JRE versions the Discoverer Plus opens with New JRE version say JRE 1.6.0_06.
The problem is the Java Applet hangs sometime with the new JRE version. I cannot remove this new version of JRE as
some other applications need this new Version of JRE.
Question is how can i force discoverer to use the old JRE 1.4.2_06 version.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
I had this same issue when upgrading from 9.0.4 to 10.1.2.2. Someone else in the forum had a solution. You could probably search for it. However, here are the details:
The fillowing are the notes from Oracle:
    Applies to:
Oracle Discoverer - Version: 10.1.2.2 to 10.1.2.3 This problem can occur on any platform.
    Symptoms
The user interaction performance using Discoverer Plus 10g (10.1.2) when configured with Sun java plug-in (JRE/JVM) 1.6.0_03 or higher.
Every action in Discoverer takes longer. For example:
    displaying the Create/Open Workbook wizard
displaying the Help > About window.
The problem does not exist with JInitiator or with Sun plugin 1.4 or 1.5 and earlier versions of 1.6
JRE 1.6.0 - works correctly, runs with 1.5.0-like speed JRE 1.6.0_01 - works correctly JRE 1.6.0_02 - works correctly JRE 1.6.0_03 - here the problem is observed for the first time. The issue is then observed in all subsequent versions (e.g., _04, _05, _06, _07 and the new_10)
The problem does not exist when an entry for the Discoverer server exists in the local hosts file on the client PC (C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts).
    Cause
Sun's Java plug-in performs reverse DNS lookups when connecting to the Application Server. This can be observed with a network sniffer trace (Wire Shark).
There is a change in the DNS handling in Sun plug-in 1.6.0_03 and higher.
This issue may be more prevalent if you are accessing Discoverer Plus via a firewall, proxy server
    Solution
To implement the solution, please execute the following steps:
Ensure the external facing IP address of the Discoverer server has a reverse DNS entry in the DNS server.
    For example:
nslookup <IP address> must resolve to the <machinename.domainname>
    and
    nslookup <machinename.domainname> must resolve to <IP address>
An alternative or temporary solution would be to add an entry to the local PC host file as described above.
    Hope this helps,
    Nancy

  • Memory leak resolved - JDK 1.4.2_06 vs. 1.5.0_11

Hello - (I am not a Java expert)
Can someone tell me how JDK 1.5 (now known as 5.0) fixed my memory leak issue? I just upgraded from JDK 1.4.2_06 to 1.5.0_1. I had issue of memory leaks on an application running on my web server utilizing Tomcat 5.0.28. After the upgrade, the memory leaks disappeared and my heap size remain the same. Seems that GC is working now. What does 1.5 have that 1.4 didn't have? Just curious.
    Thank you
    Jayson
    Application Support

It had some bugfixes. Check the release notes of the intervening versions to determine exactly which memory related issues got fixed.
Without seeing your code it's impossible to determine which particular issue you were suffering from.
