1.5.2 - Change in thumbnail size stickyness...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but clicking on presets used to reset thumbnails to a default size, regardless of what size the user had set them at. Now, and to my liking, clicking on a preset such as "Maximize Browser" retains the thumb size that the user has been working with. I like this. I do wish though that all settings in each preset could be retained. If you click on another preset such as "Basic" the thumb nail size defaults to the current thumnail size. It would be nice if presets could retain their prefrences. Still, a nice touch that there is some new stickyness to the thumbnail settings.

  • Can I change the thumbnail size while I am browsing photos to add as attachment in Mac mail using Mountain Lion OS X?

I am new to Mac and I love my new computor, but I am still getting used to the features and how to use them more effectively.  I am interested in finding an answer to this because it can take up a lot of time going into preview mode everytime I want to add a specific photo in a folder but I am unsure of which one is the photo I had in mind.

I don't see a slider at the bottom, but there is a slider above the list and under the thumbnails.  I didn't see it before, thank you!

  • CS6 Mini Bridge - Thumbnail size and preview

I've just upgraded to CS6 (design & web premium) and was setting up my workspace in InDesign, and after adding (docking) Mini Bridge there seems to be no preview or anyway to change the size of the thumbnails I can view.
I use Mini Bridge a lot as we have folders that include 100+ assets in, and it's good to see a small thumbnail to quick scan, then to click on it to see more detail.  Now all I can see is a maximum of 6 thumbnails, which means I will need to scroll a lot to find anything.
I've read the following topic from the PS CS6 Beta forum (http://forums.adobe.com/message/4286375#4286375#4286375), and was wondering if this "as designed" thinking has been rolled over to  InDesign, meaning that in order to  change the thumbnail size (with no preview), I have to have Mini Bridge undocked and if I want to see more detail, I have to enlarge the thumbnail, then reduce again to carry on searching?
If so, it seems like a massive oversight, as InDesign is a layout tool and having easy access to multiple documents to include (and to see what they are) is vital, which isn't helped by the seemingly arcane way to access folders.
Hopefully this is me just being a bit dim and missing something obvious, otherwise it's going to cause a lot of hassle in my day to day work.
If anyone has a definitive answer, that would be great.
    Cheers.

Adobe needs to realize that if "as designed" results in users thinking it's a bug or otherwise not useful — then it's a bad design choice and should be revised. They need to leave options in place for people that don't agree with some of their "new" aka bad ideas.
Assuming users don't want to use Mini Bridge vertically is just ridiculous — especially since you can't dock it to the bottom in InDesign like you can in Photoshop.
And not showing folders in the thumbnail view is most unintuative thing to do here. If it's a Mini Bridge, why doesn't it behave like bridge and at least have a check box for filtering out folders or something.
Mini Bridge is kind of useless now.

  • Layers palette thumbnail sizes

Using PSE version 2. Works great! Love it! Except... I cannot change the size of the thumbnails in the Layers palette. They remains small no matter what I do. Mysteriously, when I open a file from Jan Kabili's PSE2 Course, all the thumbnails sizes work fine. I can make them small, medium, large. Now, what could be going on here? Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!
    Jim Franck

    Greetings -
Thanks for your response (below) which caused me to do some
experiments with Photoshop Elements 2. This is what I discovered:
    • Opening a new file in any normal rectangular preset format, print
or Web-oriented, creates a Layers palette that functions as
advertised - that is, using the palette's contextual menu or the
"Palette Options" under the "More" button at the top of the palette
allows you to change the thumbnail size in the palette - small,
medium, etc. No problems. Eureka! and all that.
    • However, opening a new file as a preset "468 x 60 web
banner" (which is what I was doing when I encountered the "problem")
constrains the thumbnail in the Layers palette to small - no other
size options available. After a moment's thought, I realized that,
because the thumbnail for a banner is disproportionately wider than
it is high, allowing for a medium or large thumbnail while
maintaining the thumbnail's proportionality would necessitate a
palette that would be impractically large.
So, it's not a program flaw, it's a feature - how often this seems to
    happen.
Thanks for your note which prompted my investigation. I guess the
"take away" from this is that, if you ever get another similar
question, you might ask the inquirer if, by chance, they were working
on a web banner preset size when they encountered the difficulty.
Maybe they're as dense as I am and never made the connection.

  • Pictures not displaying in non-thumbnail sizes

One of my clients has an iMac G5 running 10.4.11 and iPhoto 5.0.4. He's got about 3200 pictures in his iPhoto library which is about 12GB in size (they are all very large pictures). He's been using iPhoto without problem for years then suddenly he noticed that some pictures do not display in a slideshow. Out of the 3200 pictures he's narrowed it down so far to a few dozen pictures throughout his library. When we view the roll or the album with the pictures listed as thumbnails, we can see the picture just fine, but when we do anything that involves viewing at non-thumbnail size, such as double clicking on it or viewing in a slideshow it displays nothing. Slideshow just shows all black and double clicking on the thumb shows white with a spinning gear that never stops spinning. I rebuilt his library and that did not fix it. I repaired permissions, trashed iPhoto preferences, deleted tmp & cache files from his computer, I even zapped the PRAM out of desperation and nothing made any difference at all. One weird thing is that when it is siting at the white screen with spinning gear, if we resize the window smaller then resize it bigger, the picture will display properly but only for that time. It still will not display in slideshows.
I tried exporting one of the troublesome pictures out of iPhoto to his desktop, delete the pic from iPhoto, then try re-importing it again. This time when we try to import it, iPhoto gives an error that the file couldn't be imported because it may be an unrecognized file type or may not contain valid data. I can open the pic on his desktop using Preview and Photoshop with no problems at all.
Why am I posting this in the iPhoto '08 forum? well I copied the file to my MacBook Pro running 10.5.6 and iPhoto '08 and it almost does the same thing. I am able to import the file into iPhoto '08 and I can see the thumbnail but when I double click it, instead of a white screen with the spinning gear, i get a black screen and nothing else. I tried the trick of resizing the window and as I'm resizing, I do see a blocky image but as soon as I stop resizing the image goes black.
I can open the file in any program on multiple computers: Photoshop, Preview, GraphicConverter, ColorSync Util, Safari, Firefox, etc. iPhoto version 5 and '08 (the only versions I have handy) refuse to work with the file. I've even edited the picture in photoshop by changing the resolution by just a few pixels and slightly tighter jpg compression but iPhoto still refuses to play nice with it.
I have exhausted all options other than reinstalling the OS, but other posts I've read similar to this say that never fixes it. I am at a loss. What is wrong with iPhoto that it refuses to play nicely with pictures that work everywhere else in the world?
I forgot to add that in Console there are several instances of iPhoto errors:
"have info and image but no ciimage" and “have info and image but no ref”

    Clint:
Try opening the file in one of the other applications that can use it and save as a new file and see if that new file is compatible with iPhoto. Or you might try this Automator workflow, Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB profile, on one and see if the resulting file will work. If so you can batch change all of them. It replaces the file you run it on so be sure to run it on a copy just to be safe. You can download it from Toad's Cellar or download it immediately with this link: Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB profile.zip.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: iPhoto 8's new option in it's rebuild library window, "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" may make this tip obsolete. We'll know when users have occasion to use it and see if that's the case.

  • Is there a way to change the thumbnails for movies/videos?

This may be more of a Leopard question, but I'm wondering if there's a way to change the thumbnail that OSX and Front Row display of movie files. I think this feature is awesome but would love to have more control over it so I can pick a frame from the video that relevant to me. Imagine Front Row's menu for movies with a bunch of thumbnails that are title screens or your favorite scenes from your movie collection (rather than a random thumbnail that may or may not even be identifiable to that movie).
I've already included this request to Apple in a suggestion I sent along including a few other Front Row requests/suggestions I had including movie/video playlists, album art support over streaming/shared libraries, and music that doesn't stop playing when you return to the main menu.

It appears that "saving" doesn't impact the quality, but wraps the file up in the .mov format (size and quality appear to stay the same). It worked ("saving" instead of using the save as a reference movie seems to fix the starting playback from the poster-frame issue). However, now a new issue has come up... I like to save the files to DVD as the original .avi so they will play on our Philips DVD players. However, being wrapped up in .mov means I have to have two versions of the file, and if my HDD ever dies or fills up I'll have to always correct the poster frame, and save another copy from the .avi original. Kind of frustrating... I wish Front Row/Quick Time would let you easily change the thumbnail and not have to change the format, etc.
Thanks everyone for your help. Hopefully some of this feedback has helped others with similar questions.

  • Thumbnail size in Browser (Grid) View?

    Greetings,
In Browser View, I change the size of the thumbnails to five across. When I close and then reopen Aperture, the thumbnail size has changed to four across. Is this the default size and is there a way to change it to keep it the way you set it?
    Thanks in advance - Scrags

Aperture 2.0.1 will remember any adjustments to the size of thumbnails in the "Browser Only" window. If you select "Browser + Viewer" AND film stripe for thumbnails (not grid) then the thumbnail size will automatically be adjusted according to the size of the Browser window.

  • HT2506 Change the Thumbnail view in Preview (Mac)

    Hi everybody!
I am wondering if there is the chance to change the thumbnails view  in order to display pdf pages on two or more columns, the same as in acrobat it is increasing or decreasing the size of the thumbnail window or zooming in/out in the same window.
    Thank you for your support!
    Best regards!

Minimally, are you aware that Artists view has an Artwork Size slider under the View Options menu item?  These preferences stick with the application.
I mucked around for a while before I realized that View Options items change for each view.  Still smallish in the Artists right column at maximum, but better than nothing, and I would have expected to expand the graphics view all the way up to a full window in Albums view, which doesn't seem possible.
Also, I noted there doesn't seem to be a way to view full size album art other than selecting the art icon of the currently song, up at the top.  Still there under Get Info in the song record but I couldn't figure out how to view anything larger but through the icon at the top.  Not a big deal overall, but I have occasionally opened multiple album art and tiled them to check details side by side.
Alsoalso, I thought I could put the album art full screen like an audio slide show and blot out the background, but that seems to have disappeared.  Again, not that important to me, but odd.

  • Preserving layer thumbnail size (CS4)?

I prefer to enlarge the thumbnails in the layers panel and would like to keep the size I choose whenever I open a new file.  It seems that saving the workspace with enlarged thumbnails does not accomplish this, and I have to resize them every time I open a file.  Is there a way to preserve my thumbnail size preference without having to reset it every time?

Cool, that worked. On a Windows PC, the folder is located here:
    C:\Users\(Your User Name)\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS4 Settings\en_US\New Document Profiles
Ok so that works for when you start with a blank file and are creating from scratch, but what about if you want to open existing AI files and retain the larger thumbnail size setting? Hmmmm...
At this point, I've probably spent more time on this than I ever would have by just manually changing the setting, but still...

  • GenPrint spitting out Thumbnail size PDFs when using AddMultiPageBitmap

    Hello,
I have an odd situation occurring that has me a little stumped, wondering if anybody has any insight. We setup a project to run in one of our test environments. The project uses the AddMultiPageBitmap rule to pull in one or more PDF's from the Linux server it's running on for some transactions. What's odd is that when the GenPrint shell script is executed by the scheduler (we use Zena), Genprint runs fine, and our resulting Metacode output contains the expected PDF's, but they're very small (we've been calling it 'thumbnail' size).  When I run the GenPrint shell script using a super-user ID (the one that was used to install Documaker on the server, as well as defined the majority of the folder structure on the server that our project uses), then the PDF's are normal/full size. It doesn't matter 'who' ran GenData, the NAFILE is the same.
Since the only difference is where the scripts are located that are being run (the scheduled one is in an "installed to" location, whereas when I run it using the super-user ID, I'm just running it from a 'scripts' folder that I copied to the same parent folder that the Documaker project's subfolders are in), and the ID itself that's running it, that seems to imply it's authorization related, but there's nothing different in the log files, nothing in the output listing, errfile, etc. I've wondered if there's a Debug option I could try turning on to see if that spits out anything that would help, but not sure which rule to use/turn on.
Has anybody ever run into something like this before, or have a better grasp on what could be happening and where I should look next?
We're running 11.5, patch 4, and as I mentioned, we're running it on the Linux platform, creating Metacode output.
    Thanks,
    Gregg

    Hi Gregg,
Everything you've mentioned seems to indicate that it's related to permissions. Is it possible that you could change the permissions on the PDF file (something like chmod 777) and see if this makes a difference in the resulting output? I've not heard of something like this before.

  • Our vendor Captivates are now displaying "thumbnail" size in newer browsers like IE11, Chrome. Why?

    Hi,
We're using some 100+ Captivate tutorials supplied by a vendor. Our user base until recently was all IE8, IE9 browsers, and the Captivates displayed without trouble. Now we have users with IE11 and Google Chrome trying to launch these Captivates (using the .htm in the launch url) and the Captivates display in tiny, unreadable thumbnail size. We've found a workaround in that we can launch the Captivate by pointing the URL at the .swf file instead, and they display normal size. But before we change 100+ URLs and bring on who know what other problems... why is this happening?  Is there a browser setting we can change instead? What do we lose launching with the swf instead of the htm? Thanks!

Add this just above the </head> tag in the html page as see what happens.

  • Thumbnail Size when Browsing in PS

I am a brand new Mac user and have just converted over my Photoshop from Windows to Mac.  I am trying to increase the thumbnail size when I am browsing my images to open directly from Photoshop without going through Bridge first.  I have increase the size of the thumbnails using the Apple preferences but this does not seem to effect the thumbnails when viewing files directly from Photoshop.  Can someone tell me if I can do this and how?
    Curtis

    Paul
In column view I only get one thumbnail at a time and only after I click on the image name.  This defeats the purpose of the thumbnails for me as I want to see the thumbnails in order to select the image and not view the thumbnails after I select the image.  The problem with the matrix view thumbnails is they are too small to make that selection with as I can't see any differences if the images are similar at all.  What I'm hoping for is that the thumbnails can be made larger in the matrix view but I can't seem to find any setting in Photoshop that change the default settings.

  • Custom Thumbnail Size(px) w/ADDT Multiple Image Uploader

The standard thumbnail size that the Multiple Image Uploader generates is 150px x 100px
I would like to know if there is any way to change that to 350 x 300?
I am refering to the thumbnail that is generated and put into the
thumbnails folder, not the thumbnail for the uploader itself :)
    Thank You!

    Hi Jason,
this particular thumbnail size appears to be defined in the file "includes/tng/triggers/tNG_MImageUpload.class.php" -- here´s a function named "tNG_MImageUpload" with the following line:
    $this->showThumbnail(150,100,true);
Guess you´ll have to change the thumbnail width-X-height values in here.

  • Adjust thumbnail size on HTML gallery output

The thumbnail size is too small for my needs in the HTML gallery output.  I've tried to change i tint he XML and in my user customizations, neither change seemed to have any affect.
Is there any way to chage it, or customize that template?  I'm OK with editing a config file if that would do it. I need this as a permanent change.
    I have Photoshop CS5.

Not THAT thumbnail.  The OUTPUT thumbnail in the "HTML Gallery" (note title of thread ).  Not sure what else to call it?
