1.83Ghz Macbook Model Number A1181 Maximum RAM Question

The box for the laptop states my macbook can only handle up to 2ghz of RAM (2x1gb sticks), but I was wondering what would happen if I put 2x2gb stick in it, would the computer freak out and not handle it? It can only help right?
Thanks

A combination of of A1181 (applies to several different machines?) on the case and 1.83 GHz means that you've got the earliest base model. Yeah - it'll probably freak out. Some have tried it and ended up with nothing working until a recommended memory configuration was inserted.

    Thanks in advance

You are trying to use software that is over 10 years old. As I read it, FCP 3.0.2 required 10.1 or higher at the time, but as FCP is reliant on quicktime, which has been updated many, many times, I doubt that you will ever get it to work properly.

Well, let's hope that nothing was jiggled out of place when you were installing the new hard drive. Your optical drive may just be out of alignment or the disc you have is "dirty." Get a lint-free cloth and some rubbing alcohol, then clean the disc as thoroughly as you can starting from the center and working outward in a concentric circlular motion. See if that helps. In particular clean the inner portion well.
If this does not help, then you have a problem. You have opened the computer yourself. That action voids all support from Apple. If you take the computer in for service the store may refuse to service the computer. This is not related to your now expired warranty.

  • How to find black macbook model number from serial number?

My friend has a black macbook, 2007 or late 2006 I think he said. Genius bar told him the logic board died, so I am looking for replacement part. Is there a way to find the model number from that? Or what parts it would take?
    Thanks.

    Try this page:
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do
That will give you the time when it was manufactured. From there, you can use an application like MacTracker to get the model information.

  • Macbook Pro-mid 2013 Maximum RAM

Hello, i have a Macbook Pro-mid 2013 (13" inch-intel Core i5 2,5ghz-4go RAM) and i'd like to upgrade the RAM to the maximum possible.
I saw that officialy, the maximum is 8go but that it's possible to use 16go without problems.
Is there any risk to upgrade to 16go?
What brands would be the best choice?
    Thank you for your help.

You note two different machines, the MacBook Pro Mid-2012 and Mid-2013.  There is no Mid-2013 MBP, but the Early and Late 2013 models cannot be upgraded after sale.
The Mid-2012 can be upgraded to 16 GB but like all Macs, you need to use ram guaranteed for a Mac as they are very sensitive to the timing of the memory.  Buy from OWC, http://www.macsales.com or Crucial, http://www.crucial.com

  • HT204319 Why don't we list model number with this information rather than the month the model was released? e.g. MacBook 2,1 or 5,2 or whatever.

Why don't we list model number with this information rather than the month the model was released?
    e.g. MacBook 2,1 or 5,2 or whatever.

Generally, Apple refers to it's systems by what part of the year they are released, ie early - mid - late.  Some people do provide the model number when they post questions, however, generally, the time of year and year released equals the model number.

  • Is there anyway or increasing the maximum ram capacity on a macbook a1181?

Looking to upgrade some ram, but more than only 2GB, any help?

The A1181 simply means it's one of 17 models of MacBook with a plastic case and a removable battery. Check out http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/?search_keywords=A1181
Each MacBook has a Model Number like 2,1, 3,1 etc... To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier.
OWC lists the maximum RAM for each model on this page. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/DDR2/

  • Maximum RAM for latest Macbook Model? (May 2007)

According to Apple the maximum RAM supported is 2GB. However as you can see on https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/MemoryBenchmark/AppleMacBook/ the Macbook can take up to 4GB!
Does anybody know the real hardware limit of the Macbook?

It only uses 3 gb but if you use 4 gb you have balanced RAM for best graphics speed.
In the article you linked to it states this also.

  • Conflicting info on maximum ram for older macbook

    System profiler says this:
    Model Name: MacBook
    Model Identifier: MacBook1,1
    Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
    Processor Speed: 2 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 2 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 667 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MB11.0061.B03
    SMC Version (system): 1.4f12
What is the maximum ram it can use? Thank you.

The original MacBooks, which it appears is what you have as it has the Intel Core Duo processor rather than the Core 2 Duo, max out at 2GB of RAM.
    Best of luck.

First correct the pirate disc issue. Buy OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard from Apple for $19.99 here http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Snow Leopard is the latest version your macbook 1,1 will run. Oitlook is part of the Microsoft Office suite, if you want outlook you'll need to also purchase Office. If you can get by with Apple's mail program there are free alternatives to Office like Libre Office or Open Office.

  • Is there a maximum RAM capacity for a Macbook Pro 13 inch Mid 2009?

My questions is essentially, is there a maximum RAM capacity for a Macbook Pro 13 inch Mid 2009? I'm aware there are two RAM slots in my machine, but in past experiences with other laptops/desktop computers (not Apple) there was a default maximum which couldn't be overidden despite how much RAM was inserted.

You can upgrade up to 8GB using 2 x 4GB 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 modules. That's the maximum (unlike 2011 and later models which Apple tells you can only hold 8GB but can actually run 16GB).
If you do order RAM, order from a Mac memory specialist - Crucial, OWC, Corsair, etc.
    Good luck,

  • Help with Ram & a Model number.

    Hi,
Trying to purchase some additional RAM for my daughters iMac on the stealth. I have the model number #A1174 and the basics - like it's a 20", 2.0GHZ, and that it came with 512 MB installed - can anyone tell me by looking at the model number if this is one of the new Intel Duo Core machines? I want to be sure and order the correct RAM.
    thanks!
    -todd

For the money, right now there are tons of the 512MB modules of 667MHz SO-DIMM memory being offered on eBay by individual owners who are upgrading their Intel-based iMacs, MacBooks, MacBook Pros and minis, any of which RAM will work in your iMac. Due to the quantity being offered, one can be purchased for a fraction of the amount as new, usually no more than $35 total, including shipping. Many of them have even been removed prior to ever being used.
There are not too many similar 1GB modules available, although some MacBook Pro owners of the new Core 2 Duo are replacing one of two of their base 1GB modules with a 2GB module (the result being 3GB of memory). Those modules will work problem free in a Core Duo.
For quick purchase of best quality, in fact, one of the best current prices appears to be a sale price with free shipping from one of the four main memory suppliers to Apple - U.S. based Micron, whose fully owned subsidiary Crucial retails their memory to the public at crucial.com. I just checked and their # CT500622 is 132.29 plus sales tax. You get a warrranty, which isn't the case with an eBay purchase. I've bought a lot from both of the sources I've recommended, and haven't had a problem with either, so haven't yet needed a warranty.

  • MacBook Model A1181 - Can't connect to wireless

I sure hope someone can help. I bought my daughter a MacBook (model A1181) for school this fall. She loves it and the wireless works well at school and I have verified it works with a NetGear wireless router without WEP. But for the life of me, I can not get it to work at my house, with or without WEP. I have a Linksys 802.11b router. It says it is connected in the airport window, but you try to open a web page it says it is not connected. It appears to be failing to get assigned an IP address so it assigns one itself but apparrently my router does not like this. I have multiple other laptops that work fine off this wireless router. I read this discussion and tried to download and install the latest Airport update, but when I tried it failed, said it is not compatible with my hardware?
Any help would be appreciated. Tx, Fred J.

    hey kulisap,
is your DLINK sending out the SSID hidden? Try resetting the DLINK and place SSID is shown and try again.

  • Early 2008 Macbook (4,1) maximum RAM per port

I have an early 2008 macbook white 2.4Ghz, or the macbook 4,1 and I understand that the maximum RAM that this model will support is 4GB.
It used to have 2x2GB RAM running on it but recently one of the slots stopped working and the computer wouldn't boot unless I took the RAM out of the slot. That leaves my computer running on just 1x2GB RAM.
The computer has been very slow since then and I was wondering if I could install 1x4GB RAM in the remaining working slot, will it make my system any quicker? Also, if I were to replace the hard disk with a SSD, would it be faster as well?
Where can I find the maximum capacity of each RAM slot?
    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The Early 2008 MacBook supports 4 GB of memory officially, but you can install 6 GB of memory. This means that you can use a 4 GB module, so you can put a 4 GB module. There's no problem with this.
You can buy more memory at OWC or Crucial
