1.9 DVR still cannot resolve recording conflicts?
While I enjoy the improvements in 1.9, the DVR still can't resolve recording conflicts.
My example: 9PM Monday.
1. Last hour of Sing Off
2. Two 1/2 Men
3. Top Gear
4. American Chopper
I have to resolve this manually. One thing I can say for DTV, their DVR's were programmed to know that 3 and 4 would be televised 3 hours later and would schedule the recording. Or know that, as an example, the weeks episode Boardwalk Empire would be televised on HBOW three hours later.
I could not agree more.
The History and Series Priority management need to be better utilized to record missed airings due to conflict.

HELP: scheduled jobs no run---searched a lot but still cannot resolve
As for this problem, I have searched a lot by google, but I still cannot resolve it.
I am using 11g on Linux.
I delete all of jobs in my database.Then I configured a very simple periodic job as follows:

The facts are as follows:
1. My database worked very fine until yesterday. This problem occurs suddenly.
2. I also tried to reboot the system, but it did not work.
3. I can manually run the job by DBMS_SCHEDULER.RUN_JOB('test2', TRUE);
4 The process of CJQ, J0 are both running;
5. the value of "job_queue_processess" is 10000, and also i changed it to other values, it did not work;
6. the value of "MAX_JOB_SLAVE_PROCESSES" is 999.
I really do not understand the reason. Who could you give me some guidance. If you need more diagnostic, please tell me how to get them. Great thanks.

Still cannot resolve "gethostbyaddr() and reverse DNS name" warnings.
"Mar 15 11:02:48 xs1 servermgrd: servermgr_dns: gethostbyaddr() and reverse DNS name do not match (xs1.dept.school.edu != xs1.dept.School.EDU), various services may not function properly - use changeip to repair and/or correct DNS"
I have two xserves, both of which keep generating the same warnings, ad nauseam, in /var/log/system.log and having followed all suggestions and instructions in discussions, technical notes, afp548.com, and from other sysadmin's I still cannot stop them. There do not seem to be any services affected, or at least not in an overt manner.
Both xserves run slightly different services: (xs1) AFP, Firewall, NetBoot, NFS, Open Directory (slave), Print and Web; and (xs2) AFP, Firewall, Open Directory (master) and Software Update.
On both xserves I have run the following commands/tests with correct results, yet still I get the warnings in system.log: "changeip -checkhostname" is correct, and "scutil --get HostName" is correct. The /etc/hostconfig file is correct with "HOSTNAME=-AUTOMATIC-".
The only thing I can consider is that when setting them up, I had entered the FQDN in all lower-case, but the reverse dns is not, our domain is capitalized, and the tld is in all caps on the DNS servers. I had ages ago issued the "changeip" command as recommended in the warning, to no effect, even though "changeip -checkhostname" says it's correct.
Where the heck to I look now? This is driving me nuts!
RackMac1,1 & RackMac3,1 Mac OS X (10.4.8)>As of 10.4.6, Apple states to never change /etc/hostconfig's HOSTNAME entry.
Inside the little black box that Apple runs Mac OS X Server this might be good advice. However, in the real world, real servers are often outside of Apple's box (sometimes far outside) and you have to do certain things that Apple don't advise or 'support'.
I can't tell you how many things I run on my servers that are outside the box and judging by other posts on these boards I'm not the only one. You only have to look at DNS, web and mail for starters to see that Apple's model doesn't cover everyone's needs. -
DiveLog Tutorial - Cannot resolve Symbol
I am having a problem with the DiveLog Tutorial getting the basic code to compile. This is sepcifically on Solaris 2.8 with Java 1.3.1.
I have entered all of the code from Part 1, and have removed all of the syntax errors. (More on this later). I run the Javac command, as directed in the tutorial for Solaris, and I get 6 errors - one for each of the 6 subroutines called - for example it can't resolve "Resources.class". Now thre is a Resources.java, but the javac step will not copmpile. it. So I ran the javac command against Resources.java, and it compiled cleanly, and created the Resources.class file. I reran the javac against DiveLog.java, but it still cannot resolve Resoources.class. All of these files are in the same directory.
Just to be sure, I downloaded the sample code, and tried to compile it. Same problem. I then downloaded a copy of the DiveLog application that will compile under Windows. Same problem.
From what I can see, the compiler does not seem to be looking in the directory the command is executed from to resolve any references. In otherwords - my current working directory is divelog; it contains 7 java files needed for this tutorial. Initially, there was no default classpath set; so i have tried various combinations of CLASSPATH statements, including setting the source directory and the regular classpath. Nothing seems to work.
Anyone have a suggestion on what's wrong here? All of the entries in the forum that I have found relate to WIndows, and not Solaris.

looking in the directory the command is executed from
to resolve any references. To find classes, javac uses the fully qualified class name and searches through the Classpath directories. I know almost nothing about Solaris, but this functionality is the same for all Java platforms, to my knowledge.
Fully qualified means the package name plus the class name. If you have followed the tutorial, you should have these .java files in a directory named divelog and you should have "package divelog;" at the start of each source code file. So, javac is looking for a directory named divelog that contains files with the classes in them.
It might be a simple fix to "cd .." and compile from the directory that contains the divelog directory. Then, assuming the Classpath includes the current directory, javac will look in the current directory for a directory named divelog that contains your .class or .java files.
Otherwise, you need to get the directory 'above' divelog in your Classpath. -

So far you are correct.
The change is only done when you change the data within the objects, thus recreating the table and moving data in / out or touching each and every value with doing something on the values themselves (the following will not work UPDATE (..) SET ServiceName
= ServiceName, the optimizer is smart enough too see that as a noop).
However, this is flat wrong. This is the story: each character column in a database has a collation tied to it. When you change the collation of a database, you change 1) the collation of the columns in the system tables. 2) The default collation. To change
the collation on the individual columns, you need to alter the column:
ALTER TABLE IAServices_Table
ALTER COLUMN Services_Name <current data type> COLLATE Persian_100_CI_AI [NOT] NULL
Unfortunately, this only works if the column is not indexed and has no constraints tied to it. Any indexes have to be dropped and recreated after the ALTER statement. If the column is a key column and there are referencing foreign keys, they also have to
be dropped and recreated. Thus, this is quite a far-reaching operation. And it may not stop there - with some amount of bad luck, constraints may fail with the new collation.
For this reason, this workaround suggested by Jens, may be your only option in the short term:
If you cannot do this currently, you can still do the following and collate on a per query basis:
select ms.ServiceID, ms.ServiceName, ms.CoefficientFixedService,

And this part of Jens's post is correct. To note though is that use of the COLLATE clause voids any index on ServiceName. (Since this index is sorted according the rules of Arabic, and not the rules of Farsi.)

The amount of space taken by an app depends on the app's purpose; complex or graphically intense apps usually take more space than simpler apps.
If your device is near its capacity, you can remove some of the less used content to make room for more.

Problem with DNS - ping/Safari cannot resolve, but host/dig work OK

Have a weird problem with DNS which is a bit similar to the following ones:

I connect with remote internal network via OpenVPN and from time to time (yes, intermittent problem :)) internal DNS names cannot be resolved.
When it happens I can still resolve names using host or dig utilities, but applications (like Safari) and ping cannot resolve them.
resolv.conf has proper DNS server set:

It cropped up after I installed updates to MS Office 2008 and Firefox in which I also saw issues with the icons disappearing in the dock of the applications that were open when I started the Office update. I rebooted to try to get them back, but ended up deleting them and restoring from the Applications folder. I don't know if that's a red herring or not, but I generally try to figure out what has recently changed that may cause something to suddenly start failing.
I'd been working successfully all morning before it started acting up. Switching from wifi to cat5 had no effect.
@realaaa, were you able to resolve without a major undertaking, like reinstalling your OS?

I have removed all spyware, anti virus software and removed all iTunes programs - as suggested by Apple. I still cannot open iTunes on my PC because of the message "you do not have permission to open this file, folder"
I have changed and checked all permissions to allow this but still get the same message.
iTunes is located on my C drive and I now do not have the neccesary permissions to open it.Hey Chris-

My apple ID password works for all of my devices but one. i only have one account and have changed the password several times but still cannot get it to work on my iPhone. any suggestions would be appreciated.

it turns out that my iphone seems to default to an incorrect User ID (it defaults to an @me account, which is not something that i have ever used).
even when i change the User ID in my settings for the iTunes store, it still appears when i attempt to get updates for my existing apps. however, it does seem to use the correct ID when i attempt to purchase new apps.
If someone actually had an answer to correct this, i would love to update my existing apps.

RIDICULOUS customer support and invoice due to fraud - Still not resolved since April
I am posting my story from the past 9 and a half months here only because I’ve tried many many other ways to get in touch with Verizon about issuing a billing credit but have received TERRIBLE customer service during this entire time. I am now trying any other means possible to get in touch with the proper people at Verizon to get this matter resolved. It is a very long story, but this has been our life since April.
Beginning in April, we received a couple emails stating that there had been a change on our wireless account. Thinking nothing of it, we continued on until the three phones on our account started getting shut off. Calling Verizon, they stated that there were indeed changes made to our account and they shut our phones off to prevent any future changes. We had to cancel our online MyVerizon account to prevent hacking into the account to make changes.
Weeks went by with our phones being turned off for days at a time and the fraudulent international minutes starting to rack up. Every time we called customer service, they would ask us if we were making the hundreds and hundreds of minutes of calls to and from Jamaica and Cuba – no, we only make less than 50 minutes of calls a month. They would eventually turn our phones back on but it would never be fixed.
After many weeks, approximately 30-40 hours spent on the phone with tech and customer support, wasting a day of vacation to work on this problem in a Verizon store, approximately 5,000 fraudulent international minutes, and a $10,725.48 bill for April (YES almost 11 THOUSAND DOLLARS), the problem was finally solved. The final outcome was to credit back all the fraudulent charges on the next bill, and I demanded 6 months free service because of all the inconvenience we had to deal with.
During the next bill, there was a credit balance of $1,029.44, which made sense to me because our monthly bill is between $150-$160, plus about half a month of having our phones shut off. After our normal monthly charges, the May bill had a credit balance of $871.55. The June bill was fine. The July bill was fine. The August bill was fine – a $414.26 credit balance with the words “DO NOT PAY” next to the balance. The September bill is when it hit the fan again.
On the September bill, there were $986.02 of “Other Charges”, mainly state sales tax and the Federal Universal Surcharge. $838.08 of it was specifically on the one line that only has a $9.99 monthly access charge. Does $838.08 of sales taxes and surcharges on a $9.99 monthly charge make sense to anyone?
I called on October 10th– the person who I spoke with said they would ‘research’ it and call me back by 4:00 that day. Never did. I called back on 10/22 said they agreed with me that $986.02 of “Other Charges” does not make sense. He was able to credit back those charges, but they would not appear until the next bill and it should still leave a $261.10 credit balance.
Then the October bill came in the mail with no credits issued. I called on 11/12 and found out that the supervisor from the last person who said the amounts should be credited back would call me by 11/14, but they would push them to call me on the 12th instead. Never called back on the 12th. Never called back on the 14th. That’s when our phones were shut off again because of non-payment.
I called back on 11/14 and was transferred from customer service, to fraud, to customer service, to billing, to fraud, to financial services, to customer service. Finally the last person I spoke with said it was a billing issue and she would fill out the necessary paperwork to get the charges reversed and our phones turned back on. The credits should appear on our next bill (where have I heard that before). And she even gave me her email address so we could follow up with each other.
The November bill had arrived and on it there was now a $1,059.65 balance due! Again, messages were received demanding payment. I reached out to the last person via email on November 25, November 26, November 27, December 4, December 9, and December 16. I am not surprised that I have never received a response from them.
I called customer service on 12/3 where the person submitted all my information into fraud to have them investigate. She then gave me a ticket number and stated I needed to call fraud. I called fraud on the afternoon of 12/3 and was on hold for over an hour with no one picking up. I called back on 12/4 and fraud stated they cannot give billing credits, so I was transferred to financial services, who said they only accept payments. Then I was transferred to customer service. That person agreed that something was wrong and would ‘research’ it and call me back the next day –they never did.
I called customer service on 12/10 and they said it is a fraud issue – that the sales taxes from the $10,725.48 bill back in April finally caught up and were billed on September’s bill. I asked why I would be liable for sales taxes on an invoice I was NOT liable for? They said since it was a fraud issue, I would have to speak with them. So I was then transferred to fraud, who said they would need to research it and call me back later in the day. Of course, they never called back.
Once our phones were shut off again for non-payment, I called back on 12/11, demanding to speak with a supervisor of a department who could issue credits. I again was transferred 9 times between customer service, financial services, billing, fraud, and back again. I did learn that the bill was so high because we haven’t made any payments in the months after the fraud. I said that we were promised 6 months free, and there was a credit balance, and that our bills, with the credit balance, said “DO NOT PAY” on them, why would I make a payment? No one could explain, other that our bill is so high because we haven’t made a payment.
Finally, on 12/11 I was able to speak with a young woman who again said she submitted paperwork to the billing department to have them look at it. The process would take 24-48 hours. She also gave me her email address, and she’s been very responsive to my inquiries regarding the status, even though there have been no status updates. On 12/16 I spoke with her again and she said she hasn’t heard back yet, but at least she was able to turn our phones back on.
On 12/16, my wife visited a Verizon store in hopes that an actual human may be able to help. The representative in the store called customer service and received the same run around and was bounced around to several different people. My wife then got on the line with a helpful customer service rep (I believe the same rep who has at least been responding to my emails, although she cannot resolve the matter). This woman at least found out that the original over credit was for international taxes that would come at a later, unknown date. This was never told to us and thought it was the 6 month credit of service we demanded and hence, have not paid Verizon since the credit was applied in May (with the words "DO NOT PAY" written on each bill). My wife then spoke with someone in "customer relations" who offered only $150 to resolve this $1,000 issue. After stating we wouldn’t accept anything less than the full amount, she then gave the name and number of a customer service manager. The manager returned my wife's call promptly but argued that nothing could be done because we have not paid our bill in 7 months. She would not listen to history of what has taken place and would not accept our offer to pay December's bill for our normal monthly service and then continue forward. That phone call was disconnected at 4:30PM EST on 12/16. Four voicemails have been left for her and as of 12/17 at 1:30PM EST, none have been returned and the "manager's" name is no longer on the voicemail box for that phone number, when it was on the first attempts to reach her.
We are giving until 12/20 to settle this issue. I see two options: 1.)We will take our money and sign up with a different carrier. Verizon will not receive payment for the amount that is said to be owed, since we do not owe this money, and we will go to the state attorney general. Or 2.) Our account can be credited, this issue settled, and we will continue to be happy customers, who pay on time, in full, every month, dating back more than a decade. This, again, has taken an astronomical amount of time and energy to try and settle this. We really should be receiving another 6 months free service.Take verizon to small claims court, do it now. Pay the small court fee and take them to court.
You must also write a certified return receipt letter to Verizon's remittance address and dispute all the amounts in question.
Get all your paperwork together and names places and dates of contact, see the judge. Its that simple.
Don't even bother jumping through hoops with verizon wireless. But do as I told you to protect yourself and your rights and your credit. Verizon has to answer court summons. Let them come to you. Let them contact you and settle.
I doubt you will get six months free. But hey it doesn't hurt to try.

Getting error message Cannot Resolve Symbol when trying to compile a class
Hello All -
I am getting an error message cannot resolve symbol while trying to compile a java class that calls another java class in the same package. The called class compiles fine, but the calling class generates
the following error message:

I am using Sun JDK Version 1.3.0_02" and Apache/Tomcat 4.0. Both the calling and the called class are in the same directory.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

addiIs ConnectionPool in this "cal" package as well as PooledConnection? From the directory you are compiling from it appears that it is. If it is, then you are compiling it incorrectly. To compile ConnectionPool (and PooledConnection similarly), you must change the current directory to the one that contains cal and type
javac cal/ConnectionPool. -

No pacnew files to update.I do not thing archbang is officially archlinux distributions (you are on an archlinux forum). This error does not appear on the current archlinux distribution. My guess is that here is a confusion between python / python2 / python3. Just run pacman -Si to know (or the equivalent of pacman for archbang).
I would suggest you to use the official archlinux instead of this fork, archlinux has much more support and users and I do not quite understand what archbang has to offer: Their homepage said that it is archlinux combined with openbox, but you can just do
pacman -S openbox
on arch; it does not seems to justify a fork (but please correct me if I am wrong).

This is telling you that you are trying to invoke the drawString() method with 4 parameters: String, int, int, int
If you look at the API the drawString() method need 3 parameters: String, int, int - so you have an extra int

Now is you look at your code you will find that you have 3 ',' in you method call. (I don't think you want the ',' after the y.
