My problems started with an error 50 message when trying to download bought films. After un-installing and downloading iTunes, a number of times, I still cannot open iTunes on my PC and keep getting the message "you do not have permission to open"

I have removed all spyware, anti virus software and removed all iTunes programs - as suggested by Apple. I still cannot open iTunes on my PC because of the message "you do not have permission to open this file, folder"
I have changed and checked all permissions to allow this but still get the same message.
iTunes is located on my C drive and I now do not have the neccesary permissions to open it.

Hey Chris-
It has been some time since you posted this message and I see you haven't gotten any replies, but  I have the same issue and I was wondering if you figured out how to resolve it.  Hopefully you were able to figure it out.

  • IPhoto Library locked in Yosemite; You do not have permission to open the document "iPhoto Library"

Long story to get to the iPhoto part but may help someone who is in-the-know about what can be done for me...
I turned on my computer a few weeks ago (iMac 27" late 2012, 2.9GHz Intel core i5) to access some photos in iPhoto and it would not load to the home screen but gave me the Disc Utilities Menu. From memory the options I had were; (1) Restore from Time Machine Back-up, (2) Re-install OSX, (3) Get online Help, (4) Repair or Erase using Disc Utility.
I tried Repair in option 4... no success.
I tried option 1 as I have my internal HDD backed up to an external HDD via Time Machine in case anything goes wrong... no success.
I tried option 2 (which was Mavericks) and it loaded and took me to my desktop.
When I tried to opened the iPhoto app in the dock there were no photos in it.
After searching forums and the internet they suggested it may have been an iPhoto upgrade issue so I tried to update iPhoto but found it was already up-to-date.
After looking, I found that the "iPhoto Library" in "Pictures" had a red circle with the white dash through it and was locked. When the "iPhoto Library" folder was double clicked I got the message "You do not have permission to open the document “iPhoto Library”.
In all the trouble I have upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.3 (with Photos 1.0) and am obviously still having the same warning/error message come up when the iPhoto Library folder is clicked.
Right click won't allow me to view package contents.
The "Import" function in the "Photos" app won't do anything with the folder, and the "iPhoto Library" folder looks and functions the same in all of the back-ups on my external HDD Time Machine.
I don't care if I need to use "Photos" or "iPhoto" but I do need to get the photos out because they are irreplaceable. If had know this problem was possible (especially while using Time Machine) I would have manually stored and backed my photos up in folders on another external HDD.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, feel free to ask any additional Questions (but this is the first time I have posted in the forum so hopefully I can work out what is going on if you do reply to this post )
    Cheers.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had tried this earlier with no success either. Even with the padlock unlocked I can't even change the tab that says "OPEN WITH". I still get the... "You do not have permission to open the document “iPhoto Library” message. You may also it continues to say "Fetching" where it should say my user name at the bottom.

  • Error while collecting files in AE CS3 - You do not have permission to open this file (-54)

I've got a rather large project that I'm attempting to collect.  35,000+ files to collect (lots of image sequences as footage), totaling near 80GB.  The collect process starts and copies files for a while, but inevitably errors out during the copy procedure with the error "You do not have permission to open this file" -- a different file each attempt.
I'd read some complaints of a similar error last year due to QT 7.4, but I'm on the current Quicktime (7.6.4).
Anyone seen this before?  What can I do!?  Thanks in advance for any ideas.

      Imaginary Forces

Well, we're just a small shop, but since it usually falls upon me to administrate, here's a few general tips:
Hide all resources that are not meant to be accessed by certain people. This can be done easily by using different sub-nets on your network and defining access privileges. Write down the network MAC addresses and use a whitelist/ blacklist. A bit of work initially, but a lot safer than working with user names.
Forget about individual user privileges. At one point or another everyone will bump into situations where they cannot access stuff, but need it for their work. Simply ramp up all users to Power User status, but assign individual groups to them which only you can manage. That leaves it up to you to define who can access what, but without having to dig so deep that you always end up with individual adjustments. You merely add or remove users from groups (which is more practical for interns and freelancers, even)
Quota can do miracles for you. If a user only has x GB of storage available, he'll quickly learn to not create redundant data by copying files.
Prevent all local storage. Artists have a tendency to offline files at whim for experimentation and then forget about it. Give them a "garbage dump" directory on the server instead where they can store their private data and any non-persistent work files, but with quota. Use server-side desktops and user home directories, if possible, but unfortunately many programs cause problems with that (including Adobe's), so it's not always an option.
For each new project, create a pre-defined folder structure. We e.g. use number_clientname_worktype_year for the root, and inside have directories for compositing, 3D stuff, print, client data etc.. Define it so from the getgo, that specific structures like project directories for 3D programs with their sub-folders for textures etc. are in place, but users cannot create additional folders. When they are forced to use existing folders, they will be much more careful in naming their files.
Define versioning rules and naming conventions. Now "siginificant milestone" is a matter of view, but I at least try to create new version files for that. So if e.g in the morning I open up a comp project and change a few things in it that take more than 10 minutes to reproduce, this is significant and a new version is safed. I don't care much for simple things like adding effects - I can reproduce them in a wee in case of crashes or data loss - but complex masking, elaborate 3D modeling, dynamics simulations etc. qualify.
Of course back up every day, at least incrementally. If following the above rules, this can be as easy as copying the project folder to an external disk.
As for the rest - simply be hard-nosed. Your artists will whine and complain for a while, but they will get used to it and eventually see the wisdom in a regulated system. It's also up to you to brief them accordingly and remind them from time to time.

  • After Effects error: opening movie - you do not have permission to open this file (-54)

    Hi all,
I'm new to after effects. I have just started receiving the following error every time I try to render my movie:
"After Effects error: opening movie - you do not have permission to open this file (-54)".
Yesterday morning, I was able to render movies, however, after I did Apple's latest update I've started receiving the following error. What is happening is that I'm trying to render a movie. It gets to a certain point in the movie (about 0;00;16;09) and then this error pops up. This morning I've tried to repair the permissions with disk utility, but that doesn't seem to have helped.
I've searched Google and the Adobe support forums with no luck. Please help.
Thanks in advance for you help,
    William

Have been able to downgrade to QT 7.3 using Pacifist. Did NOT require re-install of OS.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread...347251&tstart=0
    Download the right version here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
    Panther: http://www.apple.com/support/downlo...forpanther.html
    Tiger: http://www.apple.com/support/downlo...31fortiger.html
    Leopard: http://www.apple.com/support/downlo...forleopard.html
    Install with Pacifist
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
Now that I am back to QT7.3, iTunes7.6 is now asking me to update QT to 7.4 in order to be able to view the new movie rental feature of the iTunes store... which sorta sheds some light on the no permission error. Now that iTunes is renting, not just selling, movies, QT is now all fussy about ownership and permissions. Just a guess.

  • "You do not have permission to open the application....."

I'm getting the above error message when trying to launch an install application from CD, from a managed user account.
I can launch it successfully from the admin user account - but then of course I can't install in the correct user account properly.
The permission on the CD appear to grant everyone read and execute permissions on the application so It seems to be something in the User configuration but I can't see what I'm missing
    Any suggestions?

The wording of that message is one of my pet peeves (before this it was referring to "Login Items" as "Startup Items" prior to "Tiger"). It bothers me because despite the message, "permissions" have nothing to do with why a user is unable open that application. Of course, "permissions" can affect a user's ability to run a programme, which makes the message more misleading. A parent would normally be expected to have a lot more important things to do than read up on the nuances of "permissions" vs. user management / 'mcx_settings' or hanging out on forums, so the elimination of obvious sources of confusion like this is something I would have expected the old user friendly Apple to strive for.
Anyway, that message appears when a "Some Limits" user attempts to launch an application that the "admin" has not selected in the "Accounts" pref pane ("approved", perhaps, which is the term used in 'mcx_settings') for use by the user. Hence the user is not "alllowed" to use it. In this case, it could be that "/Applications" > "Utilties" > "Installer.app" needs to be added to the "AccessList", or if it is a stand alone installer, the item on the CD may need to be added explicitly through the "Accounts" pref pane, in order for the "managed" user to be allowed to at least start the installer themselves.
However, installation by a non-admin in the "/Applications" folder would require an "admin" password anyway, so as "macjack" has suggested, installing from the "admin" account is probably the best course. I just couldn't pass up an opportunity to rant about that stupid message...

  • "You do not have permission to open the document"

I dragged a bunch of video files from my husband's profile to the EHD. Then I logged in on my profile and tried to access the files and it told me I don't have permission to open the document. In the error box it says underneath: Contact your computer or network administrator for assistance. ?? What should I do?
    TIA (iMac OS X 10.9.5)

Select the drive, choose Get Info from the File menu, look at the Sharing & Permissions section, click the padlock, and check the box to ignore ownership on the volume. Alternatively, select the folder enclosing the videos, proceed as above except for the last step, give yourself read and write access, and apply it to the enclosed items.

  • "you do not have permission to open the application Dictionary"

I get the above message when I try to open Dictionary from the Dock or the Finder. However if I access Dictionary from Spotlight it opens. I have repaired permissions and trashed the preference file to no effect. Don't use the application much but it seems to have started after 10.4.9. Thanks in advance for any ideas.
    imac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.9)
    imac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

That's weird. If you select Dictionary and do GetInfo on it, then expand the sections at the bottom for Ownership&Permissions, what does it say? Mine, which opens just fine no matter how I launch it, has this:
    You Can: Read&Write
    Owner: system
    Access: Read&Write
    Group: admin
    Access: Read&Write
    Others: Read only
Don't know whether permissions could be the problem, but it is possible.

  • I can't open photoshop in windows 8, I keep getting the message "This program can't open..

"This program can't open because the file AdobeLinguistic.dll is missing from your computer"

It's part of the installation process, so probably best to reinstall Photoshop.
What version of Photoshop is this?  With Windows 8.1, if it is Photoshop CC, I would be inclined to restart the computer, and right click the Desktop Application manager, and start as Administrator.
But first you need to uninstall Photoshop via the Control Panel > Programs and features.  You may find that the Desktop Application Manager does not see Photoshop as being uninstalled.  If that happens, sign out of the DAM and back in again

  • You do not have permissions to open the dashboard

On a clean install of 2012 R2, I joined an existing domain and added the Essentials role.  After that, I configured it which took about 5 minutes.  At the end, it placed an icon on the desktop called "Dashboard".  It will not allow
me to open this no matter what I try.  I get this error:
    Cannot open the Dashboard
You do not have permissions to open the dashboard.  Please log on as a network administrator and try to open the dashboard again.
I am using a domain admin account.  For laughs, I tried a couple accounts, but had no luck.
The log at "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Server\Logs\dashboard.log" shows "Dashboard.Forms: Dashboard: Non domain admin cannot access dashboard."
Server Manager shows a green up arrow by Manageability for WSEE.
BPA shows only one error about Windows Server Backup and unsupported partition, which from what I gather is to be ignored as a false alarm.
Not sure what to do here.  Nothing seems to work.  Ideas?  Suggestions?

    Hi everyone!
I went in and tried all of your solutions, but none worked.
I have found the REAL solution to why this isn't working, and it should be corrected by Microsoft.
In the users profile, you can see the member of and primary group.
With my admin account, on Primary Group, I had "Domain Admins" as the group. It didn't work. I tried setting that to Enterprise Admins, and it worked and was able to get into dashboard. I set it back to Domain Admins, and it didn't work.
I set it as Domain Users, and it worked.
As long as you have the user in Domain Admins group, and primary group set to either "Domain Users" or "Enterprise Admins" -- it will always work. The account does NOT need to be in the Enterprise Admins group, just be sure to keep the
primary group on "Domain Users", and make sure it is in the "Domain Admins" group.
When the member above Lynn said they created a new account, it worked because ALL new user accounts are set to primary group of "Domain Users".
When the other user Brian Hoyt had to remove ALL administrator groups, it removed the primary role from "Domain Admins" to "Domain Users" which then worked. Then he added ALL admin groups (you do NOT need Enterprise Admins group) but
probably forgot to set the primary group, which is good and that is why it worked. When he copied the Admin account, the primary group always rolls over to the new account and is copied with it. When he removed all groups, he forgot to set back the primary
    group.
When Robert Pearman tried, he probably had the primary group set to something other than "Domain Admins" as well.
You don't want a Domain Admin (primary group) configuring your server. You want a domain user in Admin group (such as an employee to reset passwords), OR the Enterprise Admin (primary group)  to configure server applications, NOT a domain admin. So
I do see why Microsoft had this set the way it is.
So basically, you can NOT have the primary group to "Domain Admins". It needs to be either "Domain Users" OR "Enterprise Admins". The account MUST be in the "Domain Admins" group.
I do believe Microsoft should fix this issue, because it could be a bug, but also could be so that Domain Admins (primary group) can't screw applications that should be maintained and configured by Enterprise Admins (primary group).
I have made a video showing the problem was fixed, and this is the solution!

  • Suddenly cannot connect to server "you do not have permission to access the server"

I am one of only two Macs in our office.
Up until now I have been able to connect to our shared folders/server just fine. Occasionally and randomly I would seem to get booted off, but would just log back in.
Now suddenly I get "Connection Failed You do not have permission to access this server".
I seem to get it whether its cifs, afp or smb.
After it denies the connection it also boots me from email. As soon as I cancel the attempt to connect the email recognizes my password again.
I have tried rebooting, repairing permissions and having our network admin change my password and nothing seems to work.
If I enter an incorrect pw it recognizes it as such. I only get the above message when I use the correct username and PW.
Additionally if I go to the other mac in our office I am able to connect using the same credentials without any problem.
    This is via ethernet.

i also got the same problem on my ipad i have tried every thing i dont knw hw to fix this problme any solution. ???????????????????????????????????????????????????

  • Upgrade from 6.1.2 to 6.1.3 "you do not have permission to access this resource"

trying to upgrade from 6.1.2 to 6.1.3 on my iPhone 5 but gives me the msgs "you do not have permission to access ths resource"? I don't have any programs running in background and even trying to restore to factory, still won't allow me!!!

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
This is always a good firstvstep to try. After your iPhone restarts try to update again over the air.

  • Trying to install the latest iTunes on my Gateway w/ Windows XP.  I keep getting the message "Service 'Bonjour Service' (Bonjour Service) failed to start.  Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."

Hi, I'm trying to re-install the latest iTunes on my Gateway w/ Windows XP.  I had to update it a while back to put songs on my brother's iPod, but my computer froze halfway through and nothing has worked right since.
I keep getting the message "Service 'Bonjour Service' (Bonjour Service) failed to start.  Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."
I looked through older discussions that told me to go to right click My Computer - Manage - Services and Applications - Services - Find Bonjour and restart it.
Well, the only option that I can click on is Start.  When I do, it says "Windows could not restart the Bonjour Service service on Local Computer.  Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified."
Where do I go from here?  Help would be greatly appreciated, I've been trying to fix this for over a year now with no dice.  Also, I cannot do a factory reset (last effort) because it says the administor's account is disabled and I do not have the disc.

Sorry if double posting is a no-no here, but I forgot to add that I've already tried disabling Spyware Doctor.
