1 Family Plan, 2 Area Codes

Question:
Any advice or idea on how to get different area codes ported into one family plan?
Scenario:
Two people want to join one family account (iPhones, AT&T) and port their existing numbers over. She has an ABC area code number and he has an XYZ area code number. Now, they both live in the OMG area code, but want to keep their numbers (strange, I know!). The family account is created and activated successfully. The ABC area code number is ported and the new billing and residence address is in the OMG area code.
Problem:
The XYZ number cannot join the Family plan, because AT&T's billing system requires that all numbers on one family plan are in the same market (=general metropolitan area). According to 6 out of 10 AT&T Wireless representatives, the aforementioned Family plan can now only accommodate area codes within the vicinity of ABC, regardless of the plan's registration in the OMG area code, which is actually located adjacent to the XYZ area code.
Thoughts:
This market billing problem seems to be particular to the one service provider chosen by Apple for the iPhone. Apparently, the scenario described above already overcame a similar, but lesser problem outlined at ( http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/07/06/30/howto_port_ineligible_mobile_numbers_to_att_andiphone.html ).
Is this really so unlikely to happen that it is not worth to change AT&T's policy and/or processing systems? Is it worth it to pay more per minute on two individual accounts for a phone that is already almost as common as a RAZR? Is it worth it to lose a long-held mobile number for a phone whose price may soon drop again, from a company that is about as faithful to its existing customers as Paris Hilton?
While its features may have been enough to prompt the iPhones' purchase, account inconvenience may quickly prompt a return, unless there is a way to have multiple area codes on one family plan.

I think it depends if OMG, XYZ and ABC are all the same market. My husband and I share a family plan but I'm ABC area code and he's XYZ but both our area codes fall in the XYZ market. We actually live in OMG area code now and had to go back to XYZ in order to merge our plans into a family plan.

  • Is it possible to switch the contract on a family plan line to another line?

    Hi,
Sorry for the rough title. I'm on a family plan with four lines, and still have a contract lasting until october. However, two other lines on my family plan are on a month-to-month plan (contracts expired, still using the same phones after 4 years). I'm trying to switch to another carrier due to lack of financial resources, one that starts with a "T" to be exact. So I was wondering if it was possible to move what's left of my contract to a number which is planning to stay on the plan, so I can keep my number when I switch? Keeping my number isn't a must, but I'd definitely appreciate it. If anyone knows about this, I'd be extremely grateful to find out. Thanks
    -Alex

        Hi alex_riordan.
I can certainly understand the need to save money, but we don't want to see you go anywhere for that to happen. It's true that each line has it's own individual contract and that contract cannot be switched to a different line of service. Have you had an opportunity to check out our Wireless Account Analysis http://bit.ly/vnLjqO to see if there's a way for you and your family to save money by staying with our great coverage? Many are finding the new plans can really save, especially with 4 lines on your account. You can also visit www.vzw.com/discount to see if your employer offers one of our great employee discounts. We would love for you and your family to stay with us after all these fantastic years together.

  • If I have a Family Plan, Do I need a texting bundle?

If I have a family plan with my parent's. Do I really need to buy the $20/mo Unlimited Texting Plan? Since it says in the plan that Text, Pix & Flix are included in the plan. Is it absolutely neccasary? Thank you

What family plan are you currently on?  The "Talk" plans do not include text messaging, so if you want to text cheaply, you'll need to buy a package if you on the "Talk" plan.
On the other hand, a "Talk and Text" plan includes unlimited texting for every line on the family plan, so you would not need to buy the texting package.

  • Can I merge several different Verizon plans (different family members each have own plans) into one plan (i.e. can I take over all their lines), if all lines on all plans are on Edge?

I was originally told by Verizon that if I joined, I can eventually take over the lines of various family members.  Now that I've joined, and my family members all upgraded their phones and are on Edge, Verizon is telling us that we can't merge into one plan (because Edge lines can't be transferred to another account).
Is this true, and, if so, what is my recourse since I was lied to.

Well, yes and no (as far as being lied to).  I asked on several occasions (I have the chat transcripts to prove it) if there would be any issue if the lines were all already on Edge, and was told each time that under no circumstances would there be any issue.  The latest being today (I know it's after the fact, but I wanted proof that this is what the chat people are saying).  I asked "I have currently have an account with 3 phones on Edge.  My brother and his wife, and my parents, also have plans all on Edge.  I would like to 'take over' their lines.  I want to make sure there is no issue with the Edge plan and that I can simply 'take over' their lines with no problems."  I was told "Yes. That would be correct."  Again, this is what I was told in the past as well (my original post didn't make clear the timing of the chats and upgrades to Edge..).  Every time I chatted I mentioned that the accounts were going to be on Edge or (later on) were already on Edge.  Even before my family members upgraded to Edge, not one single chat or phone representative (and my brother asked the same thing in a store) mentioned NOT to upgrade to Edge because it couldn't be transferred.  Everyone just said yep, no problem.  The ONLY reason I even joined Verizon (I was on Straight Talk) was because of the More Everything and Edge plans (we wanted a family plan with 6 people and over 10GB so we'd each save $25/line).  Otherwise I never would have joined Verizon and my family wouldn't have upgraded either.

  • Why are we paying over $300 a month for a family plan that doesn't include call blocking or decent voicemail services?

I am a member of a shared family plan which as I see it posted our bill is over $300 a month, which does not include unlimited data, family protection (which allows you to permanently block numbers vs there 30 or 90 day limit if you are not covered) <---- this requires you to constantly be on alert of something so ridiculous that it shouldn't be concerned with, and finally they do not offer an upgraded voicemail service.  So my voicemail asks me to enter pin than right to messages.  It does not tell me the following:  The date the call was made, the time the call was made, nor any other pertinent information regarding the call aside from the number and than the message.  It's frustrating because I miss a lot of calls these days due to volume controls and silent modes and ring tones that aren't loud enough that I need to know when calls are received.  I don't ever remember having to pay for an upgraded voicemail service, that's like hiring a firm to handle all my incoming calls.  I want my answering machine back.  I have many other issues to include Verizon's online chat service which has at least one major issue.  I won't bring that up here.  The question is how much more money can they get for a simple cell phone plan?  For christ's sake.

The free voicemail is basic which gives you the date and time of the message. If you want more you should pay for more. Also, some Android phones with KitKat have free Visual Voicemail.
Thank you for your feedback, but my phone gives me no choice and it most certainly does not state the date and time that the message was received.  The only way for me to know that is if I happen to check exactly the phone log around the same time that the message was left, else it is buried underneath other more recent and answered calls.  And seriously man, the whole pay more idea is getting a bit far-fetched.  There is no reason why I should be able to buy a portable mini answering machine for a one time payment of $14.99 with a reusable blank tape, they don't have these and we'd look ridiculous carrying them around with everything else, but the point is we are giving permission to charge for some ridiculous things that should not be paid more for.  My old answering machine worked just fine, and more importantly I have never paid for an "upgraded" voicemail service.  As I mentioned if I want that I can hire a service to do that, but I don't need that.  I hope you can understand my growing concerns.  We pay for every little in-app purchase, we are being programmed to pay for everything that should already be includedfdasf in an initial price, brought home and enjoyed for its duration.  Instead wesdfsdf are paying monthly fees and dues on objects that aren't covered by warranties or insurances which eventually break and leave people struggling to pick up the pieces.  These are serious issues because people now rely so much on their phones (of course this is all my opinion) that we've become depandent on them.  Anyway, thanks, appreciate all the feedback.
As for blocking this is what it states on my plan under the blocking feature tab:
You can block calls and message from up to 5 phone numbers at no charge.
Expiration. Blocks expire after 90 days. Be sure to reapply the block if you wish to continue the service restriction. To permanently block numbers, subscribe to FamilyBase*.
    Limitations.
You cannot block numbers within your account or non-10 digit numbers such as 911,411 or #MIN (checks minutes used).
Apple® iMessage® won't be blocked. Messages from this service can be blocked by disabling the iMessage feature from within the Settings>Messages menu of your Apple device.
Unblocking. To unblock a number, highlight and delete the number, then click "Submit".
So there's the limits, but even worst is they don't include a simple field where I can put the name of the individual I am blocking.  So when it comes time to maybe rotate one out (this should be an unlimited number), one of the many 5 I can choose to block, I might not remember who is who or what is what.  I have a lot of responsibilities in my life, this is not one that should be pushed on the consumer.  It's ridiculous.

  • Area codes and calling plans

Is it possible to get a phone on a calling plan that has a different area code than the "home" area?  I have 3 phones that are all 970 area codes (Colorado), but I need to get another phone for WV (304).  Can I do that on the same plan, or does it have to be on its own?

You can have different area codes and "home" areas on the same plan. When we added a line for my Mom (she's in NY, we are in CA) we had to initially set it up with a local number, then change the number to her area code to get a number that would be "local" for her.
You do not need a separate plan, a long as there are 5 or less phones on your plan. You said this would be the 4th one, so there should be no problems with adding a the line and getting a 304 area code.

  • How many phones are eligible with family plan update?

If my family plan is eligible for an upgrade, how many phones (without paying full retail price) can we get by extending out two year contract?
Right now I am the only one with a smart phone, but we plan to add two more so want to get three the newer nicer phones.

Hi joycean716. I'm excited to hear so many of your family lines are considering taking the leap into new phones. Brian68 is right, each individual line has a separate contract and upgrade date. To see when each of your lines is eligible for an upgrade, log into My Verizon at www.vzw.com/signin as the Account Owner and select "Get Upgrade Status" from the My Device section of the home page. You can even order your new phones while you're logged in there.

  • For Cisco SPA112: can I make dial plan that can use 6 digit number without having to dial the area code 00357 but not for 0030?

    Cisco SPA112:
Can I make dial plan that can use 6 digit numbers without having to dial the area code 00357 but also being able to dial 0030xxxxxxxxxx numbers?

If you include a country number, you have to drop the initial 0 from the area code. eg +31 10 2345 6789 instead of +31 (0)10 2345 6789

Thank you for reaching out to us, labrylao4. Regarding the issues with messaging, is this affecting only SMS, iMessages, or both? When you or her try to send each other messages, do you receive any error messages while it is sending? If it is for iMessages, have you tried to send while connected to WiFi?

  • IPhone & Family Plan

Hello. I really need help here. I need to find out some information about prices.
    1. How much would it be with a family plan of 1400 shared minutes with one iPhone and two normal phones along with unlitmited texting for the iPhone?
How much monthly, though. Not at the start.
Also, I do not currently have AT&T, i'm switching so is there a difference in price there?
also how much is the average govenrment charges + surcharges?
    Thanks in advance!

    http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/specials/iPhoneCenter.html
The 1400 FamilyTalk plan is $129.99/month.
It only includes 2 lines...one additional non-iPhone line is $9.99/month.
    Unlimited messaging is $19.99/month.
So that adds up to $159.97.
As for taxes and fees, those will vary by your location. You can get an estimate of what they will be by going to http://www.wireless.att.com/customerservice/additionalcharges and putting in your zip code.
If you are still in a contract with your current cellular provider they will charge you a fee for early termination of the contract. This fee is typically $175 - $200.

  • Iphone, area code, moving to another area code ( lol @ topic title)

I'm really close to getting an iphone 3gs, but I just have some last questions before I go ahead with the purchase. Bare with me if I don't know what I am trying to ask because I'm confuse myself, so pardon my nubness **** I don't even know how to make the topic title for this topic lol.
I currently live in a city in California who's name will be kept anonymous. I don't know if I plan on staying here for another year. I've been planning on moving to another area in California, either the bay area or maybe southern california or perhaps New York next year, who knows. I have a cellphone number but its under my parents' family plan, so I'm not really paying for anything. I'm thinking of getting an iphone and get a new cell phone number as well to go with it.
My question is basically regarding the cellphone number. My friend said not to get the iphone because if I do move to lets say to those said places above, my area code for the cellphone will be different and if people call me, I will get charged and they will get charged long distance or what not. That's what my friend said. Does that make sense? Can somebody please clarify/explain to me what happens if I move to another city with a different area code and whatnot? What kind of charges I will incur as a result.

You can always change you cell phone number.
If you move to another place you can change you phone number or not, your choice.
I have never been charged for changing a phone number.

  • Adding a line to a family plan online - selecting a phone number

I am on a family plan.
I understand that if I change the number for an existing line, I can only select from numbers in the same area.
However, if I add a new line to the account, will I be able to select an area code from a different part of the state?
    Thanks,
    Robert

Yes - we added a line for my Mom to our family plan, and she lives across the country. We were able to get her a "local" number for her area in NY state, while all the rest of our #'s are local to us in California.

  • Add an iphone initiate family plan

I have iphone and on an individual plan with att. I recently purchased an iphone for my husband. He will have to switch from another provider. I now want to switch to family plan. Any idea how to do this? What is definition of 'family'? Can there be different last names and addresses? I already know about the shared area code restriction.

Vijaya, Family plan is a bunch of phone lines on one account, doesn't matter what last names the individual phone user have. you can have anybodies phone listed in your family plan unless they are in the same network.i think family plan for 2 lines is 79.99 which i have with my wife.

  • When I want to update my app a different account comes up now.  Wierd.  It's the family plan owners id...why is this happening and how do I fix it?

Upon  wanting to update some of my apps, I now get prompted to login with the owner of the family plans login.
I have my own account attached to this phone.  Why is this now happening and how do I return it to update my apps with my login ID?

Did you by chance accidentally purchase these app with the different account?
Because all apps are tied to the apple id that was used to purchase it.
You can also check settings - appstore - apple id - if it isn't your id, log out and log in with your id.

  • Load from cube to planning area

    Hi,
We are facing a problem in loading data from Cube to planning area, we need to distinguish between the Zero and the blank values in planning area when loading data from cube to planning area.
    Scenario is like this.
For a CVC u2013A on day D I am having key figure value as blank and on D1 is Zero and on D2 is 2, I want the same to appear as my planning area data If I load this data to cube my day D value will appear as Zero  (but it was blank) and on D1 Zero and on D2 as 2 in cube.
I am using Std T-code /SAPAPAO/TSCUBE to load data from cube to planning area, in std T-code we are having option of ignore Zero, if I use this it will also stops the actual zero value(which I need) on day D+1 to come in to planning area which I donu2019t want.
I want my planning area data to be as blank on day D and Zero on D1 and 2 on D2 after loading data from cube to planning area..
Can any one put some light and help me out from this issue.
    With regards,
    Sreerama

    Hi Seerama,
I am not sure to understand completely the issue: do you have an issue in the cube or in the planning area?
In order to differentiate a blank for a zero in the planning area, you need to set the flag "zero allowed" in the planning area settings. (in the tab keyfigure, click details, then for each key figure you can select or not the flag "zero allowed")
When you load the data, you should indeed not flag "ignore zero value"
If the issue you have is in your cube (between the file and the cube) then it is another matter...
    Kind Regards,
    Julien
