    QUICKTIME 7.1.6 -- A MayDay Bombshell?
    (1) If like many here and elsewhere, you have been experiencing setbacks that can be traced back to the May Day d/l of QT 7.1.6, specifically, the watermarked-QT-logo-with-floating-question mark instead of the media you would normally experience, use this link to light a fire under our amigos at Apple and spark their diagnostic abilities:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/feedback/index.html
Give them rational, juicy details first. Save the rant for your signature. Per my insider tech pals, 7.1.6 is looking more and more like a bad play for a good cause.
    (2) I'm listing all the spots I surfed today that addressed the 7.1.6 issue and seemed to offer possible solutions. One of the ideas might work for you (or not). As for me and Spinnerz2, we're all tweaked out. Try again tomorrow.

I have never tried this, but...
    How to downgrade QT?
    Solution
This is how you can downgrade QuickTime 7.1.6 to version 7.1.5:
    1. Download Quicktime 7.1.5 installer:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime715formac.html
    2. Mount the installer package. This is very important.
    3. Download and install Pacifist from this location:
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
    4. Run Pacifist. In its dialog press the "Open Package" button. Browse for the .PKG file in the mounted package. In the appearing list Right Click on the .PKG and from the context menu choose "Install To Default Location". Please note that if you mistakenly select the unmounted .DMG file into Pacifist instead of the PKG, there will be an installation but without an effect.
    5. Check in the "User Administrator Privileges" checkbox. Press Install.
    6. When asked tell the installer to replace the already existing files. Do this with all the files.
    7. When the install process is finished restart the computer.
    8. Run the QuickTime 7.1.5 installer package again WITHOUT Pacifist and let it install the files again.
    9. Restart the computer

  • HT204150 mayday.....I inadvertly erased my contacts when I deleted them from my old phne and now my new phone contacts are gone

mayday....I inadvertly erased my contacts when I deleted them from my old phone and now my contacts in my new phone is empty.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Do you have a back up taken prior to deleting them.
To restore from a back up made through iTunes, follow these instructions.
To restore from a back up made through iCloud, try the following:
The difficulty in restoring iCloud data from a back up is that the back up is older than the current version on iCloud and anything that is restored gets removed again when an iCloud sync occurs.
Ensure the device is connected to your local network.
Start the restore from iCloud back up.
Allow the devices settings to restore (watch for the confirmation of completion).
As the apps begin to restore pull the connection to your router WAN port (the one that goes to the telephone point).
Wait for the time out confirmation.
Navigate to settings > iCloud and turn off contact syncing (keep contacts when prompted).
Reconnect the router to the internet and let the restore process complete.
Delete any iCloud contacts from iCloud.com on a computer.
Navigate to settings > iCloud and turn on contact syncing (merge contacts when prompted).
May I suggest that you carry out a back up to iTunes before you try anything, that way should things become even worse, you can at least restore back to where you are now.

  • MAYDAY. Hard drive crashed, lost everything, how do I get my music back on.

So hard drive completely shut down on my and when I took it in, the guy confirmed I had lost all info on the drive, obviously including Itunes. I don't have the original disk that my Ipod came with. How do I get Itunes re-installed so that when I plug my ipod in, it won't think this is a new computer and delete my files?

1). Download and install iTunes from the Apple web site. Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • Mayday!  A 9.0.124.0 problem with setRemoteCredentials?

Hey all. I've been developing a Flex AMF application and
yesterday something went terribly wrong. I had been running flash
player 9.0.115.0 and had to upgrade to 9.0.124.0. This has broken
    authentication. . .badly.
It's a development machine, so the client and server are both
on my workstation. Everything worked fine in 9.0.115.0. However, it
looks like the encoding for the authentication information being
sent from the client is now hosed (ie, entering 'gander' for
username is turning up as 'j?' on the server side causing all sorts
    of nastiness.
I've looked at the new socket policy stuff and have created
as liberal of a policy as possible, but still don't see how that
applies to localhost -> localhost. Very lost on how this could
be my problem anyway as it's communicating just fine, just sending
bad data from the looks of it. At the moment, it looks as though
it's only authentication information that's corrupt, other calls
seem to be going through ok (but haven't tested this extensively).
Anybody have any clue what might be going on? Any pointers in
the right direction are VERY appreciated, I'm getting pretty
frustrated over here as google hasn't given me anything to work
    with ; )

  • Beginer in css, hope you can understand my questions..... mayday

    Hi
I am not at all a pro in creating web pages, but have got by
most the time... i'd like to update our intranet site as its roten,
using the default options in dreamweaver.
When selecting a new file, then Page design CSS and with a
    menu on the left.
I'd now like to modifiy a link in the menu on the left, and
for it to open in the main frame... but i have no idea how css
works... so i'm lost... i used to have to create frames, that was
easier for me... but it seems css doesn't need frames.
    so my QUESTION is :
When i add my hyperlink in the menu, how can the page display
itself in the main section of the site. keeping the top, left, and
    bottom intact....
THANKS A LOT for any help in advance
in case my msn is [email protected]

Yes. I do this because a) I have taken the time to look at
    the layouts and
how they are done, and deemed them substandard, and b) I have
    seen the

If your pages are well built, your graphics are cached, then
    you will not
even be aware that the entire page is redrawing as you link
    from one page to
the next. It will happen faster than you can detect.

  • MAYDAY!  iPod Touch 4 Stuck in "White Apple"!!!!

What happened:  I was just downloading an update to Facebook.  The update seemed to be dragging on, so I powered down the Touch and turned it back on.
It now displays only a white Apple corporate logo against a black screen. Holding down any buttons on it does NOTHING, including the top right-hand power button.  Neither my PC or iTunes recognizes it when I plug it into the PC.  It is frozen this way.
Will I just have to wait until the battery dies, or do I now own a $200 paperweight?
    Please respond!

    - Try a reset.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Then connect to your computer and try to restore.
    - If the screen remains on and you can't turn it off, let the battery fully drain.. After charging for an hour try the above again.

  • MAYDAY Tab/mouse duplicates entries how do I disable this?

Hello,  I am having problems with PDF form entries. I am a basic user, so please bear with with me. I have to fill out an application that is a PDF form. When I fill in a field and then tab or mouse to the next line down, it duplicates the entries in all the lines beneath it. When I try to delete those dupes, it deletes all of them. I can't seem to enter seperate entries on any of these lines. This is the section where I have to enter the various schools I have attended. I am sure I have lost you by now. Also, when entering an X into a yes/no box, if I choose 'yes 'for one, it automatically enters an X into all of the subsequent 'yes' boxes . I am tearing my hair out trying to figure out how to disable this function. I have a windows 8.1 pc at home and windows 7 at work. This form is doing the same thing on both machines. Is it just me?? I stayed up all night trying to fix it, because I have to have this in by midnight tonight... I tried to install an older version on the wndows 7 pc, that did not help. The only thing I can think of to do to meet my deadline here is to convert to a word doc...PLEASE HELP, I have scoured the help topics, and all it is doing is wasting my time here at work. THANKS SO MUCH.

    Hi Claudio,
Wow, let me tell you what I found out! After I saw your reply, I decided to call the local VA personnel office and see that they thought. At first, I think the agent I spoke to was a little skeptical. He went into the USAJOBS. gov website and accessed the link to the application, lo and behold! He encountered the same glitch. This is a federal staffing portal, and that link was corrupt across ALL of the posted positions. I know it has been messed up at least for the past few days, and what I found interesting was that I was the ONLY person who contacted the VA with this complaint. From what I gather, it was a hack!  At the end of the day, the guy I spoke to sent me an individual link to a functional version of the same form, thank goodness! If it hadn't of been for you telling me it was something that I couldn't address, I would still be trying LOL!!!! All's well, thanks again and again.

  • Fixing (and RE-fixing) my Pages . . . ( .plist problem). Mayday . . .

So, I did some research in this forum a month or two ago and got some good information on how to fix my Pages program. In order to keep the auto-correction (spelling, grammar, etc), I was told to go into the hard drive and delete the pages.plist file. Sure enough, it worked. . . .
    For a while.
Seems like when I restart (well, maybe less frequently--I'm not sure what triggers it), that darn .plist file comes back and messes with the program again. I'm SICK of it.
Can someone tell me how to fix this problem PERMANENTLY ?
    Thanks!
    Steven

    Hi Steven,
The "p" in plist stands for "preferences".
Every OS X application creates a .plist file to store preferences created by the user and by the application. Some of these are choices the User has made in the Application's Preferences panel, others are records of things like where you had a window positioned when you closed it or when you quit Pages.
The file is constantly changing as your actions change the information that is saved there. With this constant change, chances of the file becoming corrupted increase. Deleting the .plist file simply removes the corrupted file, curing any problems caused by the corruption. The application then builds a new, clean file as it needs it.
Of course the new file is just as susceptible to corruption as the previous one was. There may be some action you are taking that is making such corruption more likely, but I don't know what it is or have an idea for an easy way to determine that.
    Sorry.
    Regards,
    Barry

  • Mayday, my MEGA 180 will not start

    Hi,
I am in Deep  Creek. Reversed my fans. Ass. it all together, pushed to PC button to start and nothing. The Radio works and the LCD is working. Power to the CD from the power sup. but no power to the harddrive and what I understand the mainboard. All fans are still.
This make me think, If its works, dont fix it.
    Help anyone?

Thanks all for your help. Done all that you have suggested with no luck.

the remote control receiver is part of the hifi module, so that will work independent of the pc mode anyway
normunds is right about the front panel pin header - that too is redundant as the front panel is also part of the hifi module which has its own connection to the mobo - you could try shorting the PWR SW pins to see if that will "jump-start" your PC
and as emma says, if you have removed the CPU then just double check it is seated right and the heatsink has been correctly refitted

  • MAYDAY MAYDAY 80gb IPOD Question???

    Good afternoon,
Purchased the 80gb IPOD three hours ago and am stuck on step #2 of the instructions...i.e. Connect IPOD and follow the Setup Assistant. Well, I did and my Windoze PC keeps rebooting when I try to link with ITUNES!!!
Currently the IPOD screen is showing..."DO NOT DISCONNECT"...
So now what? Any suggestions? I am also on hold with Apple/IPOD support for my ONE FREE tech support call...almost thirty minutes now...LOLO...
Any help will of course be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Cheri
    Denver, Colorado

    Hi Cheri!
First: eject your iPod (it isn't safe to just unplug it if your iPod is displaying "Do Not Disconnect"). To learn about ejecting, click here.
    Then, try doing this:
1 - Close your installer programs for iPod and iTunes software.
2 - If you are not an administrator, then log off (log off any other users as well), and go to your administrator account.
3 - Go to "Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs". Remove "iPod for Windows" and "iTunes", if you can find them installed there.
4 - Click "Yes" when it asks you "are you sure?"
    5 - Restart your computer.
6 - DO NOT CONNECT YOUR IPOD YET - With no or only a couple of other programs running, pop in your installation CD, still being on your Admin account.
7 - Connect your iPod when the Installer tells you to (ought to be "Step 2").
After you have fully installed the software, eject your iPod (see above for details), and restart your computer.

  • MAYDAY!!! HELP !!! MAIL HAS GONE BESERK ON ME

    Hi:
I have been traveling and was accessing Mail on my iMac from my laptop. I am back in my office today trying to organize for the week and here is what is happening regarding my Mail program:
    1) It seems that email on August 30th or later cannot be accessed, specifically, when I click on an email after this date, it comes up blank but any emails before this date are accessible and fine.
    2) I sent the same email account/Mail a test message from itself and the message was not received on the account (but shows up on my BB handheld).
    3) When I quit Mail it does not quick. I have to force quit.
    4) The counter for Mail down on the Dock (in read show hundreds of new mail that I can't find in the InBox.
Can you save me? Please help.
    thanks Kirk

How much free disk space do you have on your Mac? Have you installed anything recently, just before this problem started?
Your Mail index could be corrupted and need rebuilding, so to do that:
    1. Quit Mail if it's running.
    2. Go to Home/Library/Mail and remove the Envelope Index file, but do not delete it.
    3. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Mail and remove all the subfolders within that Mail folder.
    e. Restart Mail and allow it to import your existing messages; when it's done, your Mail index will have been rebuilt.
    4. Test Mail to see if those messages are now accessible.

  • MAYDAY!!  iTunes not recognizing iPod!!

I made the mistake of letting too many people take music off my computer, whether they had an iPod or other MP3 Player. I have not Sync'd my iPod in quite some time and the last iPod to be connected to my iTunes was a friend's, not my own. When I plugged my own iPod in the other day, iTunes would not recognize it. In "My Computer", it was listted as "Removable Disk H:", not as "Tracy's iPod" like it usually is. When I double clicked on the icon, after quite some time a message came up saying "Disk not formatted. Would you like to format?". I have clicked no, the few times that this message came up. I had a friend take a look into things and he tried reinstalling the iPod drivers off of the CD that came with the iPod. In the process he had to restore factory setting so all my music off my iPod got wiped off. I don't have means at the moment to back up my iTunes before trying to reinstall iTunes, as another possible solution.
I am about to travel in 3 days and need a fast solution to my iPod problem! Travelling without music is terrible! Any recommedations on what's happening here and possible solutions??
    Thanks in advance everyone.
