10.4.4 Installed with no problems...

I downloaded the 10.4.4 combo updater and installed without any prolems...so far. The only thing I've done since updating was check my email using Mail, backup to iDisk with Backup and opened Safari to post this.
I did follow the normal precautions: I repaired permissions, I cloned my startup drive using SuperDuper and then installed the update. After restart, which did take some time, I repaired permissions again. So far so good.

i experience a weird thing when i do a update. every time it goes through a install and it goes to the optimizing system part of the install. my hard drive hick-ups. it gets stuck i guess you would say, like a skipping record. then it gets out of it and then continues fine.
So last night i debated installing 4.4 via software updater as well as quicktime 7.0.4. i did both. quicktime works but here is what i experienced w/ 10.4.4. was installing fine untill the optimizing system. it hick-up/skipped/or stuck, whatever you want to call this issue i have. then it finished the installer and restarted. my computer then did the hick-up thing on the restart but finally booted up after a long time. ran some applications; itunes, ical, illustrator, safari, mail. everything worked fine. shutdown my computer, let it sit for awhile. then i restarted it. it started right up no hick-ups and booted up faster then normal. have shutdown and restarted a few times now w/ no problems. so the questions i have is
1- is that hick-up problem a sign that my hard drive is on its way out (it is about 5 yrs old)
2- evertime i do a update when i restart for the first time it takes a long time, then the second time i restart it boots up like it should. why is that?
well like i said so far i havent seen any problems yet w/ 10.4.4
I'm holding off on updating itunes to 6.0.2 and ipod updater cause everything is working great w/ that and i dont want to ruin a good thing.

If the laptop is still connected Launch Elements in Expert Mode. Go to the help menu and sign-out. That will deactivate usage on the laptop.

MDT 2013 Windows 8.1 application install with reboot problem

I have a problem with an application install on Windows 8.1. I'm trying to install two applications and have activated "Reboot the computer after installting this application" for the first application. After rebooting the deployment window does
not show up agagin. BDD.log shows, that the deployment starts after the reboot but seems to hang, before the UI shows.
I tried to install this two applications under Windows 7, which works without any problems.

Can anyone confirm this problem with MDT 2013 and Windows 8.1? Any ideas how to fix this?
Additional information: Further testing showed, that this problem just occurs, if the application install gets started separately after deploying the OS. If the applications are installed in one deployment together with the OS, everything works fine.

To make it clear:
If I run a Lite Touch Install task sequence to install Windows 8.1 and install the two applications within this LTI, everything works fine. The computer reboots after installing the first application and the deployment goes on and finishes successfully after
the reboot.
If I first install Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 via LTI and then (after LTI successfully finished) start a separate application install (using a custom task sequence with only one "Install Application" task in it), everything works fine with Windows
7 (installation continues and finishes after the reboot) but fails with Windows 8.1.
In Windows 8.1 the computer reboots after installing the first application, but after rebooting, the installation does not start again.
Keith, as you said, my environment is corrupted, I created an new fresh deployment share, just added the two test applications and the custom task sequence and tried again. Same result, Windows 7 works fine, Windows 8.1 fails by not starting the installation
after the reboot.

Can you tnsping to oracle database ? After installation if you chose different oracle home for developer then you have now two tnsnames.ora files. One in oracle database home and the other one in oracle developer home.

Manual remove of Lightroom causing problems for re-install with Creative Cloud

Ok. I ran the uninstall of Lightroom 5 from the Control Panel on Windows 7 x64. Re-install from Creative Cloud failed. I then removed all registry entries for "Lightroom", deleted all references on hard drives. I deleted the OPM.db file and relaunched Creative Cloud and I still receive the following error (the same error at every step). Normally I would just ask for the msi and try reinstalling that, but I deleted it.

Thanks Jeff this worked like a charm for me. Anyone else looking, I had accidentally deleted a Lightroom file and I could not run, install, repair or uninstall the program and when I tried to re-install from CC it hung at 42% and gave an error code 7. I tried removing all Lightroom folder from everywhere with no effect. Running the MS Fixit utility allowed me to remove the Lightroom app and then I could re-install with no problems.

Can Photoshop 5.0 LE be installed with Windows 7?

On our previous computer with Vista, Photoshop 5.0 would install with no problems, but it's not compatible with Windows 7. I've googled for solutions, but none of them were successful. Has anyone been able to do this? I've been using Artweaver, but it's not quite the same.

I'm a little late to this party, but I just tried to install 5.0LE on a windows machine as well, and after countless attempts at things suggested by numerous sources (including Microsoft's Virtual PC, which won't install cleanly), I can say that yes, you absolutely CAN run 5.0LE on Windows 7... well, on Windows 7 Enterprise, at least. I haven't tried other versions yet.
Here's what I did:
Running the installer in compatibility mode wouldn't work for me. However, if you go to the Start Menu, type "windows update" in the search box (do not hit enter), I got an option for "Run programs made for previous versions of windows" under control panel. I chose this, and it brought up a new window for program compatibility. Choose next, and it will search for programs it can run. It won't find 5.0LE as it isn't installed. Choose "not listed" at the top of the list and then next. At the next window, choose "browse", then browse to your installation disc. Go into the Photoshop LE directory and choose the setup file. Then click open and the installer should kick in.
Worked beautifully for me. Perhaps trying to run compatibility mode on the setup.exe file would work as well, but it certainly didn't work on the installer package on the disk.
In any case, though, it does work for me - all the functionality is there....

There is a really important overheating problem on windows 8.1 (installed with bootcamp) even i do nothing Cpu is 50-60-70 Celcius degrees. This is really annoying problem. Most of users necessarily need windows OS for using third part programs that doesnt exist on OS X platform. I think this problem is important and has to be fixed as soon as possible.
My brand new Mac:

Using Boot Camp to install Windows XP: problems with display going blank

I have a new Mac mini (early 2009) connected to an older NEC MultiSync LCD (VGA only) display through a KVM.
I initially used the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter to make the display connection.
All worked fine with Mac OS X, but when I attempted to use Boot Camp to install Windows XP (Home), the display would go blank with the display saying "no signal" at some point during the install and I couldn't get the mini's display back without power cycling the mini. Numerous attempts at removing the Boot Camp partition, re-partitioning, and retrying resulted in nothing but frustration. I typically had to force the mini to boot from the OS X install DVD or Mac partition to make the mini usable again.
I have used my LCD display and KVM combination with a variety of computers running a variety of operating systems, including older Mac minis running both Mac OS X and XP, with no problems. And I intend to keep using it, so I wasn't going to assume the problem was there!
After noting that Apple had already released a [firmware update|http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mini_DisplayPort_to_VGA_FirmwareUpdate] for this adapter to address "[possible intermittent flickering and compatibility issues|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3492]", I double checked that it was up to date--and it was. But, it made me suspicious that this adapter might have some more problems and be the source of the troubles I was experiencing.
So, I got an Apple Mini-DVI to VGA adapter and tried that.
No more display problems! Everything works fine with Mac OS X. Windows XP installed without so much as a flicker, and it works smoothly with my setup.
I'm curious if I'm the only one who was affected by this problem?

Restart your Mac while holding down the Alt/Option-key until you get to the Boot Selection Screen.
Choose to boot OSX.
Use the BootCamp Assistant to remove the Windows partition.
Go to System Preferences then Startup Volume and rest the default to be your OSX volume.
Reboot your Mac again.

My gmail, which is correctly configured for Mail with gmail SMTP and Google IMAP, works for awhile on Mail, which I leave open while working on other applications. But several times a day I get msg from Google: "We recently blocked a sign-in attempt to your Google Account" . . . and requiring me to verify my account details, re-enter passwords, confirm security settings (or change them from "disable" to "enable less secure methods" and so on). In Mail I also have tried "taking all accounts online", and re-entering my gmail password inside Mail account settings. These steps successfully re-set comms between gmail and Mail ... for awhile, then it happens again. Enough occurrences over a work day that I just quit Mail and revert to accessing gmail directly. Apple Care advisor and an Apple knowledge base article say that Apple can't deal with this, as gmail is third-party app, and they refer me to gmail, and so far I've found nothing helpful there.
From today I also have several instances of a window saying "Mail has unexpectedly closed" and asking me to Re-open it.
I also use Yahoo mail, which stops working with Mac Mail at the same time as gmail, but I do not receive notices to re-verify from Yahoo.

In the meantime I got a free trial of creative cloud on that computer, but I gave up and decided to reinstall my cd-roms. However, everytime I try to use acrobat for instance it says that my trial period ran out! I disinstalled my cloud products, I am using my registered full master series items, they have nothing whatsoever to do with my creative cloud FREE subscription. If I try to cancel my free membership, it is to no avail, there simply is no such possiblity. I want to use the software I paid dearly for, not the cloud items I disinstalled and which do not interest me. How can I contact Adobe to fix it? It was no fault of mine, I did all I was supposed to, disintalling items before installing the right ones, but the system must have some error i am not responsible for.

Read and follow the Bootcamp Installation instructions that you were offered to view when you ran Bootcamp Assistant.
Run Bootcamp Assistant again and select the option to download the Bootcamp Support software. Follow the instructions. Then boot into Windows and install the Windows Support software you downloaded and saved.

Trying to update from OS X 10.6.8 operating with zero problems to 10.9.2. Install over current OS results in inability to cold boot to mavericks. Must use option key to select 10.9.2 volume to boot to.

Will boot from cold start sometimes but eventually will not boot at all. Just white screen. Have tried safe boot and cleaning out folders suggested by Apple care advisor. This helps temporarily. But white screen issue returns. Have removed all periferals problem persists. Have tried reseting Pram. This results in the Mac booting up into 10.6.8. ( I keep a backup clone on a different internal physical drive.) I've tried a clean install using migration assistant to bring over all my stuff. This results in a permissions mess that disk utility cannot fix.) I've tried migrating my data from snow leopard during the install process. Same permissions mess. Snow leopard works great but I'm concerned about lack of support with security updates going forward. I have three macs in the family. Have been a mac user since 2002. Paid the premium because Macs just WORK and I've not had to mess with them to stay alive. Mavericks has changed all that. I want to get past this and go back to just using my Mac. Open to help please. Two other things. In all instances of trying to use Mavericks I cannot get finder to retain my preference settings. They always return to default when I reboot. Microsoft Entourage always opens with a new email draft now instead of just opening to the inbox like under Snow Leopard when started from the dock. Here is how I solved this issue on my early 2008 Mac Pro- Formatted and zeroed my boot drive. Disconnected all periferals except monitor (Dell DVI), wired mac keyboard, Logitech wireless usb 2 mouse. Removed my ATI 5770 upgrade Video card and replaced with original Nvidia card. Did clean 10.9 install. Immediately updated to 10.9.2. Checked finder preference retention issues- Gone. Checked reboot and boot after PRAM reset issue. Still boots back to 10.6.8. Hmmmm though about how the order of my physical drives in the bays was now different than before 10.9. Previously 10.6 startup was in bay 3 and my 10.6 clones were in bay 4. Never had a clone boot on startup. Now 10.6 is in bay 2 and 10.9 is in bay 3. Does the mac start looking for a boot volume in bay 1 then 2,3,4. Answer- Yes! When I moved the 10.9 drive to bay 1 kept 10.6 in bay 2 the crazy start up switch no longer occurs. So, I used the system like that for a couple of days rebuilding my files and reinstalling applications. Then I pulled the nVidia card and put the ATi 5770 back in. All is well. The system works perfectly no more issues. This has been a lot of work and I can't tell what the specifict conflict was, but I'm up and running Mavericks with no problems. All my hardware is back as it was before. All periferals working fine. Glad I am still able to make use of my ATi video card because it is superior. Hope this helps others use mavericks on their older Macs.

Is the Adobe CD a MAC app ?
If it is a program for Windows you will not be able to install it.
If you nedd that program you can either buy the equivalent for Mac or install a way to run Windows under Mac (may be a cheaper solution)
