10.5 Drivers for Ati Radeon 7000 in a g5 xserve

Please help me as i am tearing out whatever hair i have left. I have an apple xserve g5 machine. I am trying to run os x server 10.5.4 leopard on this. The problem i am having is i have put an ATI radeon 7000 pci card into one of the slots but when i plug a monitor into the card on the normal vga port, nothing shows up on the screen. I have talked with the technical department at ATI in the uk and they say i have to go back to apple for a driver for this card to work in this situation because they dont have one but i cant find anywhere where this driver for 10.5.4 would be on the apple website.
Please would someone help me in getting this card or any other card working in this situation as this is very urgent.
Kind regards,
Neil Watson

There are drivers for the ATI Radeon 7000 PCI Mac edition here:
http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/mac/macosx10-4x-3x-radeon.html
But I'm not sure they're necessary... my server has them built-in:

I don't know... do you have the Mac version of the card, or did you just slap a generic 7000 card in there? If it's not the Mac version of the card, it may not work -- it may expect BIOS and the G5 Xserve has Open Firmware.

  • In search of drivers for ATI Radeon 7000

I recently purchased a used ATI Radeon 7000 PCI video card for my G3 beige, OS 9.2.2. This is an older model card with just the single VGA output. This comes up as card name "ATI, Bluestar", and card model "ATI, RV100" under Apple System Profiler so I'm a bit confused about that to start with. However, since ASP recognizes it I guess it seems to work though I haven't plugged my monitor into it yet.
    The problem is the drivers.
I went to ATI's website to look for drivers to download to get this card working. They have an OS9 updater (ati-retail-9-2-2-jan2005.hqx) that should install a bunch of components. When I run it it only installs a partial set, contrary to what it says it should do. I've seen other postings on Apple Discussions about problems with this installer. ATI seems to make it impossible to contact them other than by telephone which is only open to original purchasers so I can't even tell them there's a problem (much less expect them to do anything about it). A search for Bluestar or RV100 reveals nothing on ATI's website.
Has anybody gotten this installer to work? Is there some other source for drivers for this card? Can somebody e-mail them to me (I don't think this violates any rules since in theory they are openly down-loadable)?
    Thanks,
    Brian
    G3 beiges:DT, 9.2.2, 120GBide; DT, 9.2.2/OS X.3, 120GBide; MT, 8.6/9.2.2, 128MB,

Thanks to all for answering my questions. I decided in the end to just plug my monitor into the card and give it a try despite not haveing the groundwork properly set up. It works so it must be a Mac version of the card. This website (http://www.welovemacs.com/radeon7000vga.html) describes the card, including the model number (but I paid a LOT, LOT less than their price!).
Yes, the installer does put all kinds of things in the System, but not the promised control panel. It looks like the CP isn't essential to the working of the card so I'm not worrying anymore. I used the Apple monitors control panel to set the resolution a few times but it froze up on me once when setting it to 640x480. After that I pulled a copy of Super Res that I had in storage and have been using that.
As to the graphics acceleration, it's kind of hard to tell. I tried viewing a mp4 video clip I have with Quicktime 6. Before the card I could maybe watch a minute before my computer would freeze up. Now I can watch maybe 3 minutes before it freezes up, but the video is very jerky, even when compared to the one minute before card installation. I may now be experiencing the limitations of my 266 MHz G3 in terms of decoding mp4, but this doesn't explain why video seemed smoother before, brief though it was before a freeze.
I then tried a video game. Actually video wasn't too slow with this even with my old configuration. Now things seem to hesitate when the play gets busy and it remids me of when I used to play Crystal Quest on a Mac SE. In this case the card has made things slower.
With general scrolling I don't really notice a difference. There's still hesitation at times. In all the cases I have mentioned the ATI thing in the menu bar says grahics acceleration is on.
So in actuality I haven't really noticed any improvement with this card. If anybody has any tips on ways to tune the system to take more advantage of the card I'd welcome them.
    Thanks,
    Brian

  • How to install drivers for ati radeon 3200?and how to config xorg.co ?

how to install drivers for ati radeon 3200?and how to config xorg.conf?

mawch wrote:how to install drivers for ati radeon 3200?and how to config xorg.conf?
    Hello
I am using ati hd 3200 which is integrated with my motherboard. If you are using arch you can download & install through pacman. The package is named like catalyst*. You can install them by issuing as root user
    #pacman -Sy
    #pacman -S -l | grep -i catalyst
    #pacman -S catalyst catalyst-utils
After installation reboot your machine in runlevel 1. (single mode).  Ensure "fglrx" module is loaded correctly using
    #lsmod | grep -i fglrx
If the resultant output have "fglrx" part  the module is loaded correctly. The next step is to create a working /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Backup your current xorg.conf if needed.
    #cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bkup
    Then issue
    #aticonfig --initial --input=/etc/X11/xorg.conf
This will create a new xorg.conf file. Now we can test our confign.
    #telinit 3
I am using runlevel 3 to avoid graphic messup!!
    issue
    #gdm
If you graphical login screen works correctly there is nothing to do more except adjust your monitor resoloution as you like.
To know your ati driver is working correctly issue as root
    #fgl_glxgears
If gears are rolling happily it seems correct. You can also know more about installed ati driver
    #fglrxinfo
Now the installed driver version is in the output
If there is any problem try following
    ##### Soloutions to solve various display problems using ATI Catalyst Drivers in Linux #####
yes video playback is choppy until i ran :-
    sudo aticonfig --overlay-type=Xv
Try adding the following to the 'Device' section in /etc/X11/xorg.conf
    Option "TexturedVideo" "true"
    ### This is a half solution for mythtv problems. Run mythtv in window (no full screen) If You have a screen resolution of 1024x768 try the command;
    mythfrontend --geometry 800x600
    Append the "Device" Section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf file as follows;
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Videocard0"
    Driver "fglrx"
    Option "OpenGLOverlay" "off"
    Option "VideoOverlay" "on"
    Option "TexturedVideo" "on"
    Option "TexturedVideoSync" "on"
    Option "Capabilities" "0x00000800"
    BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
    EndSection
Add following in the .bashrc of each user or /etc/bashrc file* Most Effective In My Case!!
    export LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=true

  • OpenGL 2 drivers for ATI Radeon X600 Pro ?

    Help!
I play Second Life, and their latest upgrade 1.14.0 which is about to become compulsory is expecting drivers for OpenGL 2, and this version definitely has big problems with the ATI Radeon X600 Pro video card in my iMac G5 iSight, and will make the game virtually unplayable, and mess up my inworld businesses there.
Since this card is not listed on the ATI site, I guess we have to wait for Apple to update drivers. Are they going to soon, or do we have to wait for Leopard?
I thought Leopard was first quarter, that leaves one day left lol.

This is a fresh OS install on an external HD from my original 10.4.2 disks, and then Software Updated to 10.4.9. There are no outstanding software updates.
    From System Profiler:
    OpenGL:
    Version: 1.4.7
    Last Modified: 01/10/2005 05:13
    Get Info String: OpenGL 1.4.7.14.0
And yet I have seen Core Duo Macs list OpenGL 2. Is there a problem with the Updater, or can a 14 month old iMac G5 with ATI Radeon X600 Pro not be updated to OpenGL 2?

  • Need newest driver for ATI Radeon 3650 - Satellite Pro A300-1NT

    Hello everyone,
I am looking for the newest drivers for ATI Radeon HD 3650 onboard Satelite Pro A300-1NT.
During playing Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) game by Beenox Inc ..... I get pixelized squares on tthe screen (instead of dust) and eventually blue screen.
I am using Windows XP Pro
I looked for drivers on *Toshiba website* and the only I found are:
12/01/09 Display Driver ATI Windows XP 8.477
*Game support* suggests upgrading driver for a newer one.
*Ati manufacturer support* have driver for ATI Radeon 8650 but not compatibile with Mobile Solution - and when asked for Mobile Ati support I got the ansfer:
+AMD Customer Care for ATI products does not provide direct technical support for laptops/notebooks at this current time (telephone or email). If you require direct technical support please contact the system manufacturer of your laptop/notebook.+
    + [http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/737-28041SupportforATIMobility.aspx|http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/737-28041SupportforATIMobility.aspx] +
I ask then are there newest drivers for Windows XP

    Hi
I think you have already answered this question by yourself...
As you wrote you can get all drivers on the Toshiba website and if there isnt a newer driver available you can nothing more I think. Satellite A300 isnt a high performance gaming notebook so I think display drivers are not so important.
The only way to get a newer version is that you search on external websites. Maybe you can get the desktop driver working due some modifications I dont know but be really careful!!! Other drivers dont have an overheat protection and you could destroy the graphic chip. Be really careful what you do.
Alternative you can search on the Toshiba website for other notebook models with ATI card too. Maybe there you can get a newer version

  • Arch Noodle ATI Radeon 7000 Scroll Wheel

    Hi,
I'm at a lose here would much appreciate any help.
I've done a new Arch installation and my screen is not nice and Scroll wheel is not working.
I went looking for /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and it  is not there.
I have two graphic cards: one built into MB other is ATI Radeon 7000 with TVout (this is the one I'v connected my Monitor)
I did  xorgcfg but I cant find ATi drivers in the config list.
I've done a lot of searches but not yet sure how to go about this.
(I've installed Mandrake 2006 and It found ATi and due to this I think my HW is ok)

  • Will ATI Radeon 7000 PCI work in my G5 dual 2 GHz?

I currently have a ATI Radeon 7000 MAC32M PCI video card working just fine in my G4.
I know I should be careful about what I plug into my G5's pci slots because I don't believe they are compatible with ALL pci cards that work just fine in G4's
Does anybody know if this card is compatible with my G5's pci slots????
My G5 has a dual-monitor AGP vidoe card and I am trying to go for a 3 monitor setup!
    thank you!

so I finally found the manual for the Radeon 7000
it says "Power: +5V 5± %, @ 1.3A typical"........and under Bus it says "PCI: 32-bit PCI local bus compliant with PCI version 2.1 specification 33 or 66MHZ compatible"
now in the Power Mac G5 Technical Specifications i found online at apple it says
    "PCI expansion
    One of the following configurations:
Three open full-length 64-bit, 33MHz PCI slots, or
    One open full-length 64-bit, 133MHz PCI-X slot and two open full-length 64-bit 100MHz PCI-X slots"
I have the FIRST of the Dual 2.0 GHz G5's.....the later Dual processor G5's might have had different specs than mine, but this Technical Specs file online doesn't specify between different generations of the dual 2 GHz G5's
but does this info help anyone assist me?
I do have 2 completely random cheapo firewire PCI cards in my G5 that I threw in there without much thought and they work fine....but I have no idea what their speeds/voltages are
I saw somewhere that G5's might ONLY be able to take 3.3 volt cards....so does that mean using the Radeon 7000 is a BAD idea for me since it says 5 Volts above??
or were the original Dual 2 GHz G5's okay with 5 volt pci cards?
    HELP!!

  • PM 7500 with ATI radeon 7000 PCI mac edition - slow running OS 9.1

    Hello to all,
Well now have a PM 7500 with a G3 500 MHz, USB 1.1 and just installed a PCI ATI radeon 7000 mac edition video card from OWC.com. Installed the card, put in the ATI drivers that owc.com says I need and bummer, the card (32 meg of VRAM) is actually slower than my system video (doing tests with norton system info).
With this system, cannot upgrade to 9.2.1, most managed to go the "legit" way is 9.1. Any help again on this one would be appreciated.
    Thanks

  • K7D Master-L with ATI Radeon 7000

Is anyone using K7D Master-L with ATI Radeon 7000? I am not able to use this
combination. When I switch on the power, the screen doesn't show antying. It is just
blank.  Even though the monitor doesn't show up, if I don't press any key then the
system goes further till I see all the 4 leds as green and it tries to read from the
floppy drive. However, if I press a key after the keyboard is initialized, then the
d-bracket stops at Testing VGA BIOS. I haven't installed my hard drive at this stage.
MSI support asked me to try with another graphics card. They also suggested clearing
CMOS. I cleared the CMOS and the problem still exists. In addition, now the d-bracket
stops at "Initializing hard drive controller" though I didn't install hard drive. So, I went
ahead and installed my 200GB hard drive and no change. I think, to fix this issue, I
should first be able to fix my VGA issue. Also note that as I can't see the monitor from
the beginning, I don't know what my BIOS version is and if I can flash it with the latest
    version.

I just tried with Creative Lab's "3D Blaster Savage4 32MB AGP (32MB SDRAM) "   CT6900 which I borrowed from a friend. It didn't work either though this card is supposed to support AGP 2x/4x.  I need to see what other cards I can get hold of
    and try.
However, as I mentioned, initially the sequence was complete and I could see the 4 leds showing green. But after the advice from MSI tech support to try clearing CMOS for this problem, now the sequence stops at "Initiating Hard Drive Controller" (red red green green). Could this be because the BIOS doesn't know the HDD details after resetting CMOS? If so, once I get my VGA problem resolved will I be able to solve this problem
by entering into BIOS setup? At what stage does the BIOS setup screen show up when I press 'Del' key? If it is after the entire POST sequence then I will be stuck at the hard drive initialization. Also, I read that AMI BIOS supports Ins key which will bypass CMOS setup in the case. Does AWARD BIOS has any such functionality?

Is there any Vista 32-bit driver to update my card so that this system support Aero effect?
    Thank you.
    regards,

The Radeon 9000 driver works for the Radeon 7500 card.  I have successfully used it on a T43 with Vista Ultimate x86

Unfortunately no.  The Radeon 9000 driver should bring your graphics score up to close to 2, but it will not get it high enough to enable Aero support.

Even if they make it available, does this change mean other Radeon 5870 based cards will work in the system? If so, does this mean Radeon 5870 based eyefinity 6 cards will work with the new mac pros, and hopefully the old ones with a driver/software update? That would make it an even more significant refresh from a graphics point of view...
In any case, if other 5870 based cards would work, that would be the easiest solution for getting hold of the required card as there are loads of cards already available for purchase based on the 5870 GPU...

  • Will the mid-04 AGP 2.5 DP work with PCI-X graphics (ati radeon 7000?)

Got a G5 with a burnt out AGP slot, will it work with this? ---->http://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-Mac-G4-G5-ATI-Radeon-7000-PCI-64MB-Video-Card-DVI- VGA-S-Video-TV-Out-OS9-/200710223413#vi-content

Okay now is there any possible fix? I just turned it on and it the display came up just fine. But then I tried to boot it off of my powerbook from firewire and no show.I don't have it screwed down because I have been swapping cards but should I try that or are there any other suggestions?

  • ATI Radeon 7000 series and Photoshop CS5 and CS6

Interesting to note, Running windows 7 64bit I have bought a new graphics card, it is an ATI Radeon HD7900 bought to run Photoshop CS5 and 6 unfortunately the graphics card is not displayed in the photoshop prefrences, I checked the list of cards supported by Adobe and the Radeon 7000 series was listed.....I rang Adobe who states that the HD7000 is not supported, so until (if ever ) it is I cannot use the full functionality of Photoshop CS5 extended. I'm not sure if all the Radeon HD cards are supported or not, but maybe check before you invest in a new card.

The Radeon 7000 series cards should work fine with both CS5 and CS6, but as Steve noted there is a problem with the current drivers for the card.  Until the 12.7 driver is released next month, I'd suggest using the following driver:
    http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/AMDCatalyst126beta.aspx
Use the control panel on your system to completely uninstall your current driver before installing the 12.6 beta driver.  Please let us know if the beta driver resolves the issues you're seeing.
    Thanks,
    Adam

  • Reviews for ATI Radeon HD 4870 Graphics Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro?

There's no review at the Apple Store on this [ATI Radeon HD 4870 Graphics Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro (Early 2009 or Early 2008)|http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB999ZM/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=NDE4NDMx OA]. Googled and found nothing related to the Mac kit. Mostly PC based.
Should I consider this card? I need a spare/replacement graphics card for my Mac Pro (early 2008). The NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT card has failed me twice.

    Just came out on barefeats:
    http://www.barefeats.com/nehal14.html
Shows new drivers with 285, also compares 4870.
If you play a lot of games on the windows side, you might also want to consider the 4890. I has recently became flashable (if you're into that kinda thing). It has a lot more leeway to be overclocked. Close to (or if your lucky) hitting the 1 Ghz core clock speed, gives very close comp to the 285, and at fraction of the price. You can get an XFX 4890 on newegg for $195.
