10.5 won't network with Palm PDA device

Despite enabling SMB file sharing and doing everything else I could think of to continue using my Palm PDA to access and copy files on and from my Imac desktop, I found that my file sharing utility on the Palm (WiFile Pro 2.12) which had worked fine under OS 10.4 simply can' seem to access any more my MAc hard drive. I had been using wi-fi to connect the Palm device into my router for the Mac.
Now when I try to connect I keep getting indications from the Palm device that the MAC file system was closed to my attempts to connect.
QUESTION: Has anyone any advice on a new shareware r other software that will enable current Palm handheld devices to network for file sharing with a desktop Mac using one's existing wi-fi setup in the home environment.

Hi,
I haven't managed to get smb to work, but I have got an ftp connection through my Airport Express. See my reply to Michael K Murray Re: wifile pro - smb problem.
For transferring files between the two, plain Bluetooth send works.

Iphone won't pair with any bluetooth speakers, earbuds or car stereo. The devices pair with other phones computers etc. Jawbone Jambox says it's paired with Iphone but Iphone still says not paired! what's wrong? Iphone also doesn't ring or signal text or reminders just vibrates.

did that already twice. no pairings listed until I turn on bluetooth device then it just say not paired and pairing not successful. Jambox says it's paired but Iphone says not paired. Plus the ringer problem. When I choose a ring tone or sound it plays but when the I get an incoming call or text it just vibrates. And sometimes Itunes and youtube has no sound. What's going on?

  • PB won't network with G5 & emac

My wireless network consists of a G5, PB G4 and emac all connected via Airport Express.
All worked fine until I changed my Airport Express settings from WPA to WEP. Now the G5 and emac can see the PB, but the PB can't see the other two. Something weird is going on as I haven't changed the PB's network or sharing settings.
The G5 is running 10.3.6, PB 10.3.5 and emac 10.3.8.
    Would upgrading to Tiger help?

Upgrading the MacOS is not a solution to a problem that "just popped up". You are just as likely to cause yourself even more headaches with an OS upgrade.
Did you try just powering down everything (all three Macs and the Airport Express), then plug in the Express (wait a minute), then restart all Macs?

  • New Computer with VISTA 64 bit won't work with Palm OS on TX - no bluetooth

I bought a new computer without researching the 64-bit vs 32 bit Vista versions and didn't discover until I had it up and running that I can't install the Palm Desktop on it.  My TX is only a couple of months old. I don't want to replace it and can't get a bluetooth adapter right now, budgetwise. What I want to know is: 1. Is ther some other work around than the clunky bluetooth one? and 2. Is Palm working on a 64-bit compatible version?

Before firing off an embarrassing rant, how about searching this forum for an answer first?
You are asking about Palm Desktop, and the ability to perform a HotSync. You have replied to a post that is over three years old. We have a section of the Forum devoted to Windows HotSync named as such.
In this section, you will find a post entitled "64bit Palm Desktop drivers are here". USB drivers have been around since April of 2011. Please read through this post since it provides an answer to your issue.
Palm Inc. sold the rights to Palm Desktop many years ago to PalmSource, who then sold it to a Japanese company named Access. They were the company who you so eloquently described as the one to "screw users".
BTW, Palm Inc. ceased to exist some time ago since being purchased by HP. Posting a complaint against a company that exists only in memory seems a bit pointless, no?
Hopefully my reply can bring you up to speed, and enable you to sync your device.

I'm attempting to transfer a huge file from a G3 laptaop running OS 10.2.8 over to a G5 Quad running OS 10.4.10. I've tried Target Disk and file sharing, to no avail. Any suggestions?

  • WRT160N Won't Connect With Windows Mobile Device

I had another wireless router for years that connected almost instantly to my Windows Mobile 6.1 handheld device.  I switched to the WRT160N and it works great with my wireless laptops.  The device does not even show up in my available device lists on my Windows Mobile phone with wi-fi.  I tried manually connecting and it does not work.  I tried all of the other security settings, it does not work. The phone manufacturer (not the sevice provider which is Verizon) has acknowledged that they are having calls only about Cisco branded routers.  Does anyone have a solution?

I had exactly the same problem. Tried the live technical support chat but didn't solve the problem. Resorted to random changing of settings and discovered if I changed the router setting Wireless -> Basic Wireless Settings - Network mode from 'Mixed' to 'BG-Mixed' my Windows Mobile 6.1 device found the network and happily connects with WPA2

  • Help! Why does my HP 1536dnf Printer appear in my network with a strange device name?

    I own a HP Laserjet 1536dnf All-in-One Printer.
I notice that with the default settings, my printer is appearing in my network under the device name that seems to be some randomly generated name like NPICG042G that makes no sense to me.
I know that I can change the name in the device page, but I like to know how did this name come about in the first place??
When I reset the printer and redo the setup, the SAME device name appears as if this is some fixed preset.
Can someone explain this to me?
Also, if I change the name, do I need to reinstall all the drivers for each computer on the network OR change the name of the printer MANUALLY to the new name on each computer on the network?
    Please help.

Same probleme here on a HP Officejet 8500. Same question also under the post "How do i change my printer's name in the Mac OS X Finder?"
    Please find a solution.

  • FaceTime won't work with two Apple devices & One ID

Before I got my iPhone 5c I used to be able to use FaceTime on my MacBook Pro. When I got my iPhone 5c I could no longer use FaceTime on my MBPro. Now FaceTime only works on my iPhone.
When I try to sign-in to FaceTime on my MBPro I get the following:
Your Apple ID "[email protected]" can't be used to set up FaceTime at this time.
I contacted Apple FaceTime Support.  They wanted $30 to address my problem.
Has anyone else had this problem?

I am experiencing the same issue logging into my MBPro. I attempted to use FaceTime however when I opened the app it required me to enter in my log in information, which I have never had to do since I first began using the app years ago. Well when I entered in my info clicked NEXT I received this error message: "The server encountered an error processing registration. Please try again later."
Don't get it. Feeling perhaps I need to update my operating system to Yosemite? Will this fix it?

You need to check from the PDA Device if it is showing any option for network connection or wireless connection ...
Search for wireless access point & try to connect to it ....

Interesting suggestion, but it's not clear to me how I would do that if I'm not using an "(at) icloud.com" email address/account. I am having the same problem with changed invitations that come from an organizer who is using Google Apps. You get asked it every day? Too much of a bother to you?
Assuming only one person per day contacts you about this issue (which I very much doubt), that would mean approximately 120 persons have bothered to ask the question since the release of Windows 7. This does not reflect the many who simply toss their Palm product in the trash, and buy a competitor's product.
It is incomprehensible to me that a patch has not been written yet. And it is obvious that you really just do not care. You present yourself as simply annoyed that you CUSTOMERS are asking for help.
No enterprise that relies on satisfied customers can long survive with an attitude that a portion of their users just don't matter.
Since this is only your third post here I'll try to help you out with some background information how forums work.
Questions that get asked over and over get special treatment - they get responses that are stuck to the top of each section of the forum, and are called "sticky posts".  They are placed prominently at the top, and have a dark background to attract the attention of New Users who may be unfamiliar how internet forums work. It's "assumed" anyone looking for answers would scan the top of a section first before posting questions.
Perhaps you missed the one for Windows 7?  Did you not get any results using the Search function?  How about using the new Tag function to click on "Windows_7"?  Have you been trying to sync to a 64bit system via cable?   Palm Desktop 6.2.2 works fine with 32bit Win7...
So you feel I don't care eh?  Do you see a Palm logo under my nickname?  You don't, due to the fact I am a VOLUNTEER here, sitting at home, and offering my years of experience with PalmOS devices freely to those asking for help.  I am the highest Kudo'd responder here (kudos=Thank You's), have the highest post count, and yes answering the same question over and over again does get tedious at times!
The plain fact remains that Palm Inc. is ending support for PalmOS devices, and those of us using them are on our own.  They sold Palm Desktop to a Japanese company named "Access" years ago, and have gone to webOS as their entire future.  Microsoft has changed their OS twice now (since XP), and you chose to purchase it/them.  Access finally came out with version 6.2.2 of Palm Desktop (for Vista), but that seems to be the end of the road as far as they're concerned.
One of the basic tenets of business is to attract new customers constantly.  Palm's PDA line was discontinued due to lack of sales.  Yes, I would have loved to have seen a TX2, or at least see Palm actually advertise and market what they actually had.  Palm Inc. has moved on, and would like everyone to purchase a webOS device now.
Welcome to the Forum, and I hope you get the answers you are seeking.

Status as a volunteer does not bestow license for rudeness.
It should be reasonably simple to provide a link to a summary of the Windows 7 sync problems, rather than replying to the questioner in the manner you did.
A problem so often asked about deserves to be handled helpfully, not sarcastically. Actually, no request for help of any kind should be treated so disparagingly.
And, although I have no intention of getting into a pissing contest with you, you are way off base in your response to me, dripping with disparagement and sarcasm.
Clearly, in your mind at least, anyone daring to criticize you must be an ignoramus.
I did not search the forum to arrive here.
I came to this forum page from an outside link. Had I realized it would bring me here, I would not have followed it.
I long ago gave up expecting anything helpful in the Palm forums as it relates to this issue.
You did however provide one major piece of useful information: that Palm has literally abandoned PDA users. Yet as recently as last November, the Palm Store in my City was actively selling PDA's including the Z22. One would think that those newly purchased devices would be supported for some reasonable amount of time, like at least a year!
Now I know what future products not to buy. And whom not to engage in conversation.

I just installed Airport Extreme. It works as a wireless network on my Macbook. It won't connect with my Windows Visa PC. Message reads: "settings saved on this computer for the network don't match requirements of the network." I seem to need to enter a security key/passphrase to connect to the PC. Where do I find them?
    Thanks for your help.

I assume that you have Wireless Security enabled on your AirPort's wireless network. The issue maybe that the PC is unable to use the WPA password itself and will require using the Equivalent Network Password instead.
To get this password, you will use the AirPort Utility from the MacBook:
Start the AirPort Utility > Select the AirPort base station > Manual Setup
Now, before doing anything else, go up to the utility's menu bar at the top of the screen, and then, choose "Base Station," and then, Equivalent Network Password from the drop-down menu. You will see two items: 1) WPA Password, which should look familiar to you, and 2) WPA Pre-Shared Key. It should be a long hexidecimal set of numbers and letters. Jot down this second item.
You will want to use the value you just jotted down when entering the password from the Windows Visa PC.
