11.5.10.2 to R12 - Reducing Upgrade Downtime

Hi,
We'r in the process of upgrading 11.5.10.2 instance to R12. Please anybody who has already done the upgrade, can tell us the way by which we can reduce the Upgrade DOWNTIME to a considerable extent (apart from what Oracle Recommends). Looking forward for early response as this is very URGENT.
Thanx in Advance
Regards
Mahesh

There is no other way to reduce the downtime other than suggested by oracle. May be you can club patches like applying rdbms patches in sequence, applying help patches once you release the instance and merging all other product patches

  • R12.1 upgrade from 11.5.10CU2 with 11g

    Hi hsawwan,
I have some doubts about R12.1 upgrade process.
    1. If i have 11.5.10.2 with 9.2.0.8 as database then can i upgrade to R12.1 using RapidWiz and during database upgrade screen, directly upgrade from 9.2.0.8 to 11.1.0.6 or 11.1.0.7 database?
    2. If i have 11.5.10.2 with 11.1.0.7 as database then can i upgrade to R12.1 using RapidWiz or i have to do patchinf for it. Means to say that can i use RapidWiz for R12.1 upgrade from 11.5.10.2 with 11.1.0.7?
    3. What will be the best practice to reduce downtimwe for R12.1 upgrade ?
    Regards,
    Manas Prakash Gupta

    Hi hsawwan,
As pre-upgrade patching for 11.5.10.2 to R12.1 upgrade, i applied a patch 4582937 which is for PRE CONVERGENCE MIGRATION PATCH. There are some steps which are need to be performed after applying this patch. Below are the steps.
    1) Perform the data mapping for org and warehouse migration through the UI available in OPM System Administration.
    2) Run $GMA_TOP/patch/115/sql/GMAORGMG.sql as APPS user.
    3) Review any errors generated in the Org Migration for the context "ORGANIZATION" and rerun GMAORGMG.sql after fixing the errors.
    4) Run $GMA_TOP/patch/115/sql/GMAITSTP.sql as APPS user.
    5) Review any errors generated in the Org Migration for the context "PRE_ITEM_MIG_SETUP" and rerun GMAITSTP.sql after fixing the errors.
    6) Run $GMI_TOP/patch/115/sql/gmiitmin.sql as APPS user 7) Review any errors generated in the Org Migration for the context "ITEMS" and rerun gmiitmin.sql after fixing the errors.
I am not able to understand the first point (Perform the data mapping for org and warehouse migration through the UI available in OPM System Administration).
I logged into application and under OPM System Administration i didn't find anything related to mapping. Can you just tell me how to perform these steps (Specially the first one because in others we need to run scripts only).
    Thanx,
    Manas Prakash

  • 11.5.10 to r12.1 upgrade, TCA issues/questions

This is a fairly "advanced" r12 TCA question for the experts:
We are upgrading from EBS 11.5.10 to r12.
We also have a separate instance of EBS 11.5.10 in which we use "Oracle Customers Online" for our "CDH" (Customer Data Hub) that sends (spokes) party data to multiple subscribing systems. We are going to absorb this CDH instance into the upgraded r12 environment.
The r12 TCA upgrade takes all suppliers and creates NEW TCA structures for them (parties, sites, contacts, etc). Many of the suppliers overlap our customer parties in the real world (suppliers who are also customers). Additionally, these suppliers/customers have also been spoked to many other systems with the supplier segment1 + vendor_site_codes (same as our customer party_number/party_site_numbers).
    1. We thought of merging the customers into the suppliers and then editing party_number/party_site_number to be the same as the original segment1 / vendor site_code, but ran into the following issues, of which the first below is most important:
-- r12 Upgrade makes ALL suppliers (regardless of vendor_type_lookup_code) into Party_Type 'ORGANIZATION', which cannot be merged with Customer Party_Type 'PERSON' parties....
-- Party site merges will not work if we don't have the EB Tax Geography MASTER_REF country/state/county/city/postal_code's defined for the hz_locations.
The party type issue above is important for existing data but also for new suppliers. PERSONs will never be able to merged in the future, between Suppliers and Customers in either direction.
For the sake of getting all these parties de-duped into single parties, I changed some of the supplier ORGANIZATION party_types to PERSON (and hence I also created an hz_person_profiles record using TCA api's). But after doing this, when we update the supplier through iSupplier Portal, it updates the underlying party_type back to ORGANIZATION. If I were to make this change, then merge PERSON customers into these Suppliers, and then a user updates the supplier data, then the whole party will get updated from PERSON to ORGANIZATION, which I think would be bad for our customer processing (and other modules in other spoke systems subscribing to party create/update events).
Also, if we are forced to leave suppliers separate from customers in case of PERSON entities, then I will especially have trouble trying to send a complete party definition to subscribing systems, since there are 2 parties instead of where there should be 1.
Any ideas about how to overcome this issue with r12 Suppliers integration with TCA ?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello
We are about to undertake a similar upgrade - can you let me know how you overcame this issue please?
    Thanks

However, during the upgrade, I chose option "Do Not Move Database Files", and now I don't have initPROD.ora in my new $ORACLE_HOME/dbs. Which files should I copy from the old ORACLE_HOME? Which to edit? Any advice would do, thanks in advance.
MayloYou should have the init.ora file under the same directory. However, if the file is missing you can copy it from the old $ORACLE_HOME as mentioned above.

  • R12 Ebtax upgrade- did not upgrade the Tax Jurisdictions

we have upgraded from 11.5.10.2 to 12.1.1.1 . The setup has been migrated to R12 Ebtax
But Dont see the tax Jurisdiction created at all ? why the system did not automatically create the Jurisdiction like it created the other components of Tax Configuration. How does this impact
I see a note 460059.1 on metalink but there is no error as such when creating manual invoices. the tax calcutates fine.
I have done a fresh tax set up in my previous project where creation of Jurisdiction ws mandatory for the subsequest ebtax setup

The upgrade doesn't simply happen. The Yosemite installer is downloaded to your Applications folder and normally it starts but then waits for you to begin the actual installation. Look in your Applications folder for the installer, double click on it and follow the instructions. Note that when the installation is finished, the installer deletes itself. If you want to keep it for future use, duplicate it first.

  • MW R12 - key upgrade steps clarification

    OS: RHEL4 x86
    DB: 11.2.0.3
    EBS Upgrade: 11.5.10.2 -> R12.1.1
    MW: 2.20
<-> Process Step: Upg to Rel 12.1.1
<---> Product Family: Perform the Upgrade
    <-----> Task: Apply Preinstall Patches
<------->Step 1-Check for critical pre-upgrade patches for Financials
I am on my 2nd upgrade. With the first upgrade I had lots of problems with this step since it refers to an MOS note that has lots of information and refers to other MOS notes and it isn't clear what steps in those notes is duplicated within the MW steps.
The first time I did some things in the wrong order since there was no clear direction between the MW steps and all of the notes.
Is there anything that can help clarify how to correctly proceed through this task and the next task, Perform the Upgrade, which are so critical?
    Thanks!

It would be really nice to have the exact steps spelled out in detail since this is too crucial to have it be vague and not well understood.
Here's how the MW explains it.
    - Process Step: Upg to Rel 12.1.1
--- Product Family: Perform the Upgrade
    1) Apply pre-install patches
    ----- Task: Apply Preinstall Patches
-------- Step 1-Check for critical pre-upgrade patches for Financials (Required)
I think that I understand this section except that I don't know whether patch 7303029 should be applied in this step or not.
    2) Apply DBA CUP and related patches
    ----- Task: Perform the Upgrade
-------- Step 9: Apply DBA CUP and related patches
    This is basic and understood.
    3) Step 9.1:Apply patch 7303029
Here's what the MW says for the "setup" section:
"This step will download patch 7303029. It will also verify that the u67780700.drv driver is in the correct location and ready to be merged."
Here's what it says for the "execute" section:
    cd $AU_TOP/patch/115/driver
    admrgpch -d . -preinstall -master u6678700.drv
Neither of these steps actually applies patch 7303029 in pre-install mode but I am under the impression that this needed to be done at some point.
So, please provide the exact steps needed to get this done correctly.
    Thanks

  • Minimize upgrade downtime in HA environment

    Hi upgrade gurus,
I have 3 instances (1 CI , let say  PR1_00, 2 DI, let say PR1_01 and PR1_02, DB on seperate box, let say PR1_DB). HA setting is used for both PR1_00 and PR1_DB. (Microsoft Cluster). some are running on top of
Now I need to patch my system from SPS14 to SPS19.
To minimize the downtime, I would like to first apply that patch on the SLAVE of my CI.
1.During the patch I expect the DB is synchronized from my PR1_00_PRIMARY to PR1_00_SLAVE is on going but not vice versus, while I am applying the patch on PR1_00_SLAVE. This will not cause any stopage of my business.
2.After the patch on PR1_00_SLAVE is completed. I switch the PR1_00_SLAVE from passive mode to active mode. I will apply patch on PR1_00_PRIMARY during this time. I expect same synch. is applied as step 1.
    3. restart the DIs respectively.
Is this feasible ? will step 1 and step 2 work ?
    Kindly comments.
    thanks & Best Regards,
    Aaron

    Hi Aaron,
Let me phrase what i understand from you is you have CI and DB on HA environment. And CI and DB are mirrored. So you want to patch slave first so that master will be available to users. Then once slave patching is completed you will make slave as master and then do patching of earlier master.
But i don't think that this a good approach. As what about the difference in data because when master is in production mode there will be change in data as users will use that..And when you will use slave as master after upgrade then there will also be change in data...
How will you synchronize both ?
    Thanks

  • SAP EPR6.0 Upgrade (Downtime).

    Dear Sir/Madam,
Currently we are doing SAP ERP6.0 Upgrade, Can you please guide me what are the steps we need to adapt in order to Minimize System downtime.
    Regards.
    Hubert.

    Hi Hubert,
Regarding the upgrade times, there are a lot of factors like the table
contents, DB size, tp and R3trans versions and so on that can affect the
performance. As to my experience, it depends mostly on database performance.
Please refer to the following SAP notes:
838725  - Oracle 10.2: Dictionary and system statistics
    830576 -  Parameter recommendations for Oracle 10g
1171650 - Automated Oracle DB parameter check
983548 -  Long runtimes during SAP Upgrade using Oracle 10
    558197 - upgrade hangs in PARCONV_UPG, XPRAS_UPG, SHADOW_IMPORT_UPG2
    Additional information:
    1. if the location of the datafiles (upgrade directory) is a local
directory or a mounted remote directory. For a remote directory
       the connection speed to it is important;
    2. Even if the upgrade directory is local, network layer is used and
thus network configuration is important. A typical difference
between production and test systems can be that production is often
high availability and thus can use e.g. virtual hostnames or other
methods. Maybe the network setup is then different to non-production
       systems;
    3. Also hardware issues, e.g. if the database or the upgrade directory
       are on fast disks and if caches are used are important;
    4. the database speed (parameters, memory, disks, ....);
    5. if the database is on the host where SAPup and R3trans run or on a
different host might influence the speed but even a local database
access uses network layer and thus network configuration for the
database host is also an issue.
    Best Regards

  • Changing the IP address of CI before the upgrade downtime

    Hello,
I have posted a similar question in another forum, but have specific DB2 question in this forum.
Our CI server is in windows and the database is mainframe DB2 z/OS. We are upgrading from 46C to ERP Unicode (CUUC)
We have just finished the upgrade uptime 'Upgrade Phase Group: Shadow Import' - which took twice as previous benchmark. This is because the network response between the CI windows server and the mainframe database is very slow.
Now the plan is to move the CI server to the same subnet as the database server BEFORE we start the 'Upgrade Phase Group: Downtime phases I: Switch tables and Kernel'. Plan below
    1. we have reached the START OF PHASE MODPROF_TRANS and we exit (our schedule dowtime is on weekend)
    2. Once the scheduled downtime is reached, we stop SAP, stop the DB2 system
    3. Then move the CI windows server - still the same physical and logical server name, just different IP address
    4. Start DB2, Start SAP in the CI windows servef
    5. We then resume the SAPUP in the MODPROF_TRANS, proceed with the upgrade
    6. When the non-Unicode upgrade is complete, we use LINUX server for the Unicode conversion to use the DB2 fastload
    - while UC is happening, we move back the CI windows server to original place and original IP address (several reasons why we have to do it.
    7. So when UC is complete, we install the 7.0 Unicode CI in the windows server (using the previous IP address)
    Several question
    - do we need to change anything in the DB2 side (e.g. ICLI)
    - do you see any problem with this plan?
    Thanks,

    Hello Terris,
I cannot make any statement concerning the different Upgrade phases and your upgrade plan itself.
But as far as ICLI is concerned you do not have to re-configure anything.
You do not even need to stop the ICLI server. As soon as the CI is restarted (using the new IP address),
it will re-connect to the ICLI server. The ICLI server does not do any validation / caching based on IP addresses.
    best regards, Harald

  • 11g Upgrade from 10.2.0.4 in SUSE 10.

    Hi Gurus,
We have 11g Database upgrade on our EBS 11i environment, database size is around 1.3 TB, i already did test upgrade it was not satisfactory results what client is expecting regarding downtime, i followed manual upgrade as i am very much familier with that, i your views and suggestions to reduce upgrade downtime.
    11g Upgrade from 10.2.0.4 in SUSE 10.

    Hi,
Is your database is RAC or NON-RAC.
If you are going for patchset upgrade then you can go for roll upgrade patch.
as you know, you cannot escape the downtime always. ;-)
i already did test upgrade it was not satisfactory results what client is expecting regarding downtime, i followed manual upgrade as i am very much familier with thatOracle introduces DBUA with many features, still why you are not going for DBUA?
You have to test the TEST environment using DBUA ;-)
If for example For 1.3 TB you are going to consistent backup, still you have down time. then there is no point to think on UPGRADE duration.
but you can perform pro-actively like.. install the 11g ORACLE_HOME before the downtime. & so on.

In the meantime, please use the other support channels (this forum, FAQ, iTAR's, etc.) for Maintenance Wizard questions and problems.
    Sorry for the inconvenience.

PS - To answer Tom's imbedded question (What I'm actually trying to confirm is exactly what OAS or iAS or OC4J to use with it.), please look at the Installation Guide (note 329476.1). In step 2 of the prerequisites, it states:
Maintenance Wizard version 2.x requires Oracle RDBMS 10g (10.2.0) with 10g iAS (10.1.3).
