11g Client Config/Net Config Error

Local Net Service Name configuration: Connecting...ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
The test did not succeed.
I can log in to the ORCL database with SQL*Plus from the database application and the client application if I use: connect scott/tiger. If I try to use connect scott/tiger@orcl, I get this error: ORA-12514 TNS:Listener does not currently know of service requrested in connect descriptor.

Did you check that the DB is up ? If not, then check it and, eventually, start it up.
If yes, then open a DOS window, set your ORACLE_SID, connect to Sqlplus as sysdba and type :
    SQL> show parameter service
    what is the result ?

Well, you bet you should do "xmonad --recompile"
BTW, i get my xmonad configs from MrElendig too.

  • Mountain Lion VPN server "IPCP maximum config-requests exceeded" error

I have OS-X Server running on Mountain Lion 10.8.4  I had to reinstall the system due to a hard drive failure and ever since reinstalling OS-X server the VPN service has been driving me mad. Every so often without any obviosu reason the service starts failing and comes up with a "IPCP: Maximum Config-Requests exceeded" error. On the client side it looks like Connecting >> Authenticating >> "You have ben disconnected" message. It seems like this happens every time you restart the machine (so after a fresh restart I can NEVER log in at all and get this error) and switching the VPN service off and back on again in Server app gets rid of the problem every time. Then the problem comes back sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes ater a few hours or days even. I have the exact same settings as I did before where it ran without fault for months and would be back up and running after power failures and automatic restarts. I have not found one single thread anywhere where someone could explain what this is and the best solution I have seen so far was to write a script to turn the VPN server off and back on all the time. Could someone PLEASE help me here. Ay help at geting rid of this problem would b very much appreciated!

  • Oracle Net config assistant not opening on windows.

    Hi,
I installed Oracle 9i server on a windows XP machine on Friday, 2nd December. I configured the listener service, netconfig name and my application was up and running.
Today I wanted to make some changes in the listener service; but the net config assistant window is not coming up. New processes launch.exe and jrew.exe are starting in the background with each attempt to launch.
I made sure I am logged in as the same user which installed Oracle on the machine(having ORA_DBA privilages), gave the full control privilages to this user. But the net config assistant is still not opening up.
Could anyone help in this regard.
    Thanks
    Puneet

Has anyone of you seen this problem before??
    Kindly reply asap.
    Thanks

  • Windows 7, Oracle 11g Client Post-Installation Error

    Hello all--
    Background Info:
    - I have installed Oracle 11g Client (32-bit) on my Windows 7 Professional (32-bit) workstation.
    - The ORACLE_HOME directory (in my case C:\Oracle\Ora11g) is in the PATH environment variable.
    - I have created TNS_ADMIN as an environment variable that points to a network folder that contains our tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora.
    - I can tnsping our servers and sqlplus connects without issue.
    - I am logged in as a regular network user (added into the local Administrators group on my machine).
The problem is that I cannot connect using a user or system DSN in the Microsoft ODBC Administrator, BUT, I can connect with a DSN when I am logged in with the local Administrator account. I have verified the DSNs are setup correctly. The error I get is the ORA-12154 error.
Here is the exact error as it appears:
    Unable to connect
    SQLState=08004
[Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
If I copy the tnsnames.ora file from the network to my machine and remove/redirect TNS_ADMIN to the %ORACLE_HOME%\NETWORK\ADMIN folder, it works with my user account.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!
    Matt

    Hi All--
I figured out what the problem was and I wanted to share what our solution was.
Basically, when you open the Microsoft ODBC Administrator in Windows 7, it has to run with elevated privileges and loads the Administrator profile. Our tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora files are on a network share that we map to a drive letter for all users across our organization. The Administrator profile does not have this drive mapping. So I created the TNS_ADMIN environment variable with the full UNC path and I was able to test DSNs successfully.
    Regards,
    Matt

    Hi,
Which service did you want to stop in "Services"? Actually, as I know, there's no such a "net config server" service in "Services".
    Or did you mean this?

Although I didn't have any problems to install the client on Windows XP (assuming it's Professional, not Home), you may try a custom installation instead of 'runtime'. The last lines in the logfile refer to the .net component, not sure whether there's a problem.

  • 11g client create trigger

    Hi
I am trying to create a trigger using the 11g client
i go into the schema on the database tree in the window on the left and find the table i want and right click triggers
i click create and name my trigger and write the code in the trigger body
in advanced i click trigger for each row and then fill out the "Old as" and "New as" fields as "old" and "new"
i change it to an after trigger and on insert and update
in my trigger body i reference old and new with :old and :new and i get an error saying
missing in out parameter at index:: 1
    heres the code
    if :old.segment4 <> :new.segment4 then
    insert into pa_projects_status_change
    (project_id, status, changedate)
    select
    :new.project_id, segment4, sysdate
    from dual;
    end if;
the database is version 9.1 I think
    thanks in advance

Although I didn't have any problems to install the client on Windows XP (assuming it's Professional, not Home), you may try a custom installation instead of 'runtime'. The last lines in the logfile refer to the .net component, not sure whether there's a problem.

  • 12c Client: How to Resolve Error [INS-30131] on Win7 x64 Install?

    Hi all,
I'm getting an error message I can't figure out on the Oracle 12c client installer.
I have 11g client installed on my machine. I took the following steps:
Downloaded the 12g client for x64 from Oracle's web site.
    Extracted the zip file.
Right-clicked on "Setup.exe" and selected "Run as Administrator."
Passed the OUI monitor check and it prepped the install from a temp directory.
    Installer opens
I select a custom installation type (I'm really only looking for the odp.net managed DLLs) and click next.
I skip software updates and click Next.
I see the following error message: "[INS-30131] Initial setup required for the execution of installer validations failed." Cause: "Failed to access the temporary location".
I'm not sure what temporary location it's trying to access, but I'm a network administrator, with full admin rights on my box, running the program with elevated permissions and entering my credentials to do so.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated

I had the same situation, when I was running the installer 2nd time (installing both 32-bit and 64-bit drivers for some reason). I found following articles on metalink:
"[INS-30131] The initial setup that is required to run the installation program validation was not successful " Error While Installing 12.1 (Doc ID 1569962.1)
Installation of 11gR2 on Windows Fails Checking Requirements (Doc ID 1133495.1)
Neither of them was helpful. After some time of poking around I noticed service OracleRemExecServiceV2 running from location C:\Users\<MyUsername>\AppData\Local\Temp\2\\oraremservicev2\RemoteExecService.exe - I stopped it and re-ran Oracle client installer. It solved the problem for me.

  • 11g Client installation errror - Unable to construct admin data&Invalid UTF

I am trying to install Oracle 11g Client on Windows 7 (version is Oracle Database 11g Release 2 Client (11.2.0.1.0) for Microsoft Windows (32-bit)). I already have installed Oracle 10g Client and it is working without problem. I read few articles that say it can be used simultaneously on single machine.
    I get following error:
"ERROR!! Unable to construct admin data segment. java.io.UTFDataFormatException:Invalid UTF8 encoding."
I have full admin rights on machine, Windows is updated and latest Java is installed. Searched all over the net but can't find what could be the problem.
    Thank you in advance.

    This may be helpfull:

  • 11g client connection to XE fails

    Hi,
I have installed the 11g client beta and Oracle XE on the same system running Vista Ultimate.
The 11g client can connect to Oracle 9i running on remote systems.
The XE sqlplus can connect to the local XE instance (and remote Oracle instance).
When I try to connect my application to the XE instance I get an exception:
    Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleException: ORA-12532: TNS:invalid argument
    In sqlnet.log I get:
Fatal NI connect error 12532, connecting to:
    (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=now2)(PORT=1521))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVER=DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME=XE)(CID=(PROGRAM=C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\InstallUtil.exe)(HOST=NOW2)(USER=nisse))))
    VERSION INFORMATION:
TNS for 32-bit Windows: Version 11.1.0.4.0 - Beta
Windows NT TCP/IP NT Protocol Adapter for 32-bit Windows: Version 11.1.0.4.0 - Beta
    Time: 28-AUG-2007 10:54:48
    Tracing not turned on.
    Tns error struct:
    ns main err code: 12532
TNS-12532: Message 12532 not found; No message file for product=NETWORK, facility=TNS
    ns secondary err code: 12560
    nt main err code: 502
TNS-00502: Message 502 not found; No message file for product=NETWORK, facility=TNS
    nt secondary err code: 51
    nt OS err code: 0
    The connecting string I use is: "Data Source=(DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = now2 ) (PORT = 1521)) )(CONNECT_DATA = (SERVER=DEDICATED) (SERVICE_NAME = XE )));Max Pool Size=16;Connection Timeout=15;User Id=nisse;Password=XXX"
When I change HOST and SERVICE_NAME it works perfectly well to connect to a remote Oracle instance.
Disabling the local firewall does not help.
In the PATH, the 11g client path comes before the XE path. (No ORACLE_HOME set)
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Strange. I have 10g XE with the 11g ODAC beta, but I can connect using localhost as my TNS host name. Another solution may be using the IP address for localhost: 127.0.0.1
One thing to keep in mind is that SQLPlus comes with 10gXE, not 11g ODAC beta. So, the version of SQLPlus you are using is really from the 10g Home.
    Ming Man,
It sounds like you need to copy over a tnsnames.ora file to your new ODP.NET 11g Home or some other general Oracle connectivity configuration not set.
