14.2 updates changes width of Swatches palette

Hi, as soon as I updated ps cc to 14.2 the swatches palette, when docked does not behave correctly: all swatches are placed as you have resized the palette, placing them in wrong order. Undocking the palette reposition the swatches correctly.
I've made sure the docked palette is not scaled, in fact even on brand new, reset "essential" preset interface displays the issue even with default palette.
Scaling the docked palettes does not fix the problem.
Here's an example with the DEFAULT interface on a fresh installation
first one is the unlocked palette, works as expected
second one is the docked palette (wich is on the default Essentials UI!)
My guess is that the minimum docked palette width has increased by some pixels with the update. This may look like a minor issue, but it skrewed up all my custom palettes

The panel is not "broken", but its minimum width has increased due to the inclusion of the new longer phrase "Smart Object" in the Layers panel options filter list.
Specifically, for the English-language interface (on Windows using a non-4K monitor and standard font sizes), CC 14.1.x and CS6 had the same smaller Layers panel minimum width of 224px, as compared to the new wider minimum of 242px in CC 14.2:
Even for a particular version of Photoshop, things that change the length of words, such as user-interface language, and the size of the letters or symbols, such as the typeface and size of the fonts used for the user-interface, would affect minimum panel width.  In other words, I suspect German users have a wider minimum Layers panel width, and Chinese users have a narrower minimum Layers panel width, and users with Retina or 4K displays also have different sizes for things due to the much higher resolution.

  • InDesign CC swatch palette issues when creating a new color or updating a current color...

    InDesign CC has crashed on me three times in a row and still won't fix it's problem...EVEN AFTER my computer and all the programs were shut down overnight! I was in the swatch palette to create a new swatch. I had a current one selected to base the new one off of. I went under "create new swatch," the palette came up, my mouse auto-scrolled when I clicked and it landed on "DIC color." Now, the DIC fields won't disappear even when I'm in CMYK or RGB. And when I try to change it to CMYK or RGB or the color values, it crashes InDesign. When I load it back up, the problem still exists. How do I reset it???

  • Custom Swatch Palette (beta)

    Hi yall,
    I created this custom swatch palette which allows a person to keep swatch info in this palette and instantiate it in documents.  The palette can store notes about a particular swatch and there is a save button somewhere which will save your palette state as an xml file.

    The principles of this method are to draw by reading the string object and that;s how you can change colors and things by changing the eval-led objects and redrawing them with putting an updating function into OnDraw and hiding/showing the element to force the OnDraw.  If you end up using this , I'd like to see some examples!

  • Swatch palette

    I've been using flash since v.1 and I don't know why I haven't found this so annoying until now, maybe it's because now I'm a teacher and I see the flaw for what it is through my students. Why is it that you can't change the size of the swatches in the swatch palette display, as in photoshop? On top of that, the "feature" of automatically adding swatches to the palette if you accidentally miss a swatch an click in the grey area is truly frustrating, all of a sudden you've added all of these colors to your palette that you don't need. I never noticed these flaws because I have a steady hand but my newbie students, using a wacom stylus, made me realize how maddening these quirks can be. So, adobe, can you add a feature to the palette to more easily resize the display of swatches, also create an easier, less futzy way to delete swatches, and come up with a more accurate way of adding to the swatches than the silly "paintbucket" feature? Something like the preset manager in PS would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    There is also a fair amount of extra space in the current version of Flash CC. Makes it take a little longer each time to navigate up to the palette colors to pick. Adding some resize or scale options (even if it's applied automatically) would be a good fix.

  • Swatch palette becomes full of unused colors when copy and paste from one document to another!!

    sometimes (i haven't found a pattern yet of when) when i copy and paste an object that is solid black (for example) into another Illustrator document, a bunch of unused swatches copy into the swatch palette for no reason! lots of "default global colors" and PMS swatches. i then have to 'select all unused' and delete them all to clean out the palette (which always seems to stall while thinking when selecting or deleting them). often times i get the global swatch warning (always 2x, not just once) before placing an object and before the whole swatch palette fills up with unused colors.
    this has only happened recently in the last few months and i have been using Illustrator for years so i'm not sure what's stemming this. a new update? has anyone else noticed this problem and know a solution? is there a preference checked somewhere that i don't know about?
    guess i should mention i'm on CS3 Illustrator running MAC OS 10.5.6

    I've had this problem before as well and it has to do with a currupt file that your coppying from. It's too complicated to explain here so here is my fix for it.
    I take the file and save it down or up in CS1. Open infected file in CS1. Create a new file in CS1 the same size as the one you've opened. Select all and drag and drop into the new empty file. Don't copy paste, it must be dragged into the file. You can then delete all global colours and save your file. The curruption will be gone. There's a way to check suspect files to see if they have the deleted global colours present. Open your suspect file in a text editor like simple text, scroll down a little way and if you see a bunch of lines of code mentioning "deleted global colours" then you know it's infected and has to be fixed.

    BTW have you installed any fonts recently or software or update any software?

  • Default swatch palette?

    Upon opening a new document in RGB mode in Illustrator CS4, I'm greeted by the Default CMYK swatches palette. Where do I switch the settings to launch the Default RGB palette as the default swatches menu? Thanks!

    O.K.... I think I figured it out. It seems what I should do is choose Basic RGB from the dropdown menu in New Document window. When I make changes, such as Raster Effects or Size, the status becomes [Custom] but the Default RGB palette launches upon opening. I must have previously been modifying a Basic CMYK document to RGB color mode in the New Doc window thinking Custom was Custom was Custom You get the idea... Thanks for the help!

  • JFileChooser Swatch palette

    i wanted to create a custom dialog, that contains a color (swatch) palette
    i don't want to create one from scatch (*shrugs*). I was able to get the Swatch panel from the JFileChooser
    The problem i'm having now is..when the user click on the color..i want to detect that event and my dialog would get the selected color and process it. Unfortunately, I don't know how to do this. The AbstractColorChooserPanel
    is not really a GUI components like JButton, JTExtFields..etc...so there's no listener to add. I did noticed that i can get the ColorSelectionModel..and throough the colorSelectionModel...i can add a ChangeListener. What i'm afraid of is if i add a new change listener..it would remove the old one..and make the compoennt useless.
    anyone know how i can get the event of a useer selected a color?

  • I keep losing my pantone swatch palettes

    Now I think I may have lost them for good. I am using Illustrator 10, but have had the same problem with my office copy of CS3. At first I thought the palettes were just out of sight beyond the screen somehow, as result of changing screen resolution, but not sure about that now.
    I click on windows/swatches/Pantone uncoated (or whatever), get a little window flash on the screen right in the middle, and then nothing. I move everything around, but still no swatches.
    I've reinstalled several times, but no luck. Also, strangely enough, after reinstalling, the one swatch palette I don't want (Pantone pastels) always shows up in same place.
    Any ideas?

    For your AI 13 (CS3) installation, take advantage of the save workspace feature.

  • The Swatches palette default color names

    Hi,
    I'm using Illustrator CS3 and I have a problem with the default colors in the Swatches palette.
    Basically, every time I brush my cursor over the colors, I get names like C=85 M=10 Y=100 K=10 instead of sunshine, or C=75 M=0 Y=75 K=0 instead of peridot, proper color names that I should see.
    Please help me out to display the right name settings since it will be easier for me to do my work. My Illustrator level is basic as I only took an introductory course, but will get better as I intend to put many hours of practice.

    I am using CS3 and I'm pretty sure the colors in the standard palettes have only been called C=stuff M=stuff Y=stuff K=stuff all along. I don't think they have other names. Adobe decided against sunshine... ;). You could start a new document, change the color swatch names and save that altered file as a template, then use that from now on.
    If you were an advanced user, you could also locate the cmyk and rgb default files and change those.
    To change a swatch name, double click the swatch and change the name in the dialog that comes up, then close the dialog and voila!

  • Color and Swatches palette behaviour in Illustrator CS5

    I only use the Swatches palette, but when I click the Tools palette color chips to select between stroke and fill, Illustrator brings up the Color palette by default; I have to go back and re-open the swatches palette - quite tedious.
    Is there any way to change this behaviour?
    I haven't been able to find anything useful in the Help or via Google - probably because I can't describe the issue in a few words!

  • Swatches palette

    I'm running Photoshop CS3 Extended in 32 bit Vista. Whenever I need a layer filled with 50% Gray I have been accustomed to select it from the default swatches palette (last box on the right side of the first row). However, I have just discovered - perhaps belatedly - that the RGB values that this selection produces are NOT R 128, G 128, B 128 but can vary between 131 and 147 depending on the color profile of the document that I am using at the moment.
    I can verify that it is not 50% Gray by then changing the blending mode of the new layer to Overlay which, at least in theory as I understand it, should produce no color change to the underlying layer. However, I do observe changes.
    I have also confirmed with others that this behaviour is the same for CS3 running in XP on a different make of computer.
    Am I missing something fundamental?

    Closing the browser, Firefox, fixed the problem with the keyboard shortcuts. I'm soo happy about that. Now I just need to find a work-around to keep the two from talking to each other. We use web based apps for job tracking as well as accesing our own website catalog.
    OK, here's an intersting test. Closing the browser did't fix the swatch palette issue---completely. When I opened an exisiting document and clicked on the swatch palette - bam - it came right up. Granted it only had the "fill none" and "registration" swatches present. So, I loaded Pantone Solid Coated and same old story except that the swatch palette opened and closed normally. Then I started adding swatches from pantone and Illustrators default libraries to the swatch palette. And with each swatch I added the slower the palette performed. It's wierd - kind of incremental. Delete the swatches back down to the defualt and it works fine.
    I then started clicking on palettes and noticed significant delay problems with these palettes: color, appearance, and color guide. All the other palettes respond upon click.
    Another observation - when I switch back to illustrator from the browser there is significant delay in the redraw of the screen in illustrator. It's like a three step redraw: I toggle over and the artwork preview is there, with Firefox window header hanging around, followed by a brief pause, then replaced with the illustrator window header, visable blink and any open palettes are refreshed.
    Then I try this... in illustrator I type the tab key to hide all palettes, toggle to Firefox then back to Illustrator and - bam - no delays!!
    Because I can't work full time with the palettes closed I notice another thing. Typing tab to bring everyhting up – slow. Typing tab to close – normal.

    I am being given EMF files. They need to be converted to AI files, the file converted from RGB to CMYK, colors edited to be Pantone match, saved in 4 formats... AI, EPS, PNG and GIF. And I need to do this via Applescript as there are too many to sit and do one by one.
    Problem: The colors in the EMF file do not come into the AI file's palette. I can't change the colors until they are in the palette. I can not sit and manage (open and edit) each file.... therefore I was at a standstill.
    Solution: Create an action and build out a do script.... Didn't realize this could be integrated in the workflow.... I am all set now, but hopefully you understand where I was going with it.

  • How To Delete All Colors In a Swatch Palette?

    If I wanted to create a new swatch palette without the preset colors being there, how can I delete all the swatches at once. I know how to delete each color individually but, is there a way to clear the palette?
