16 bit receive over rs 232

Hello All,
I am a beginner in Labview and need some assistance on the below:
I want to create an interactive console application with Labview to communicate over RS 232. The GUI should allow me to
1. Send some specific commands over RS 232. (This I guess I will be able to do if I get a base application).
2. Receive 16 bit data over RS 232 and log it to a file. (This I guess will be tricky as RS 232 is 8 bit communication standard and the application like windows Hyperterminal will interpret 16 bit data as 2 8 bit ascii characters, which I dont want)
Let me know any thoughts on how to go ahead.,
Thanks so much,
Nagaraj Hegde

go to the help in the toolbar, select Search For Labview Help. Then do a search for Unflatten From String Function. Look at the examples for this function. Remember to set the correct endian format (Google endian if you do not know what it is).
Post again if you need more help. In Labview you can do this in many ways. Some prefer to just use the type cast function.
Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted
(Sorry no Labview "brag list" so far)

  • Can we run 32 bit application over 64 bit windows server 2012 ?

Can we run 32 bit application over 64 bit windows server 2012 ?

    Hi,
    Thanks for your question.
Since the two cases that you posted are the same, I will merge them so that you can get a better assistance. Thanks for your understanding
    and support.
In addition, according to your question, it depends on the applications. Some applications designed for the 32-bit version of Windows
will work on the 64-bit version of Windows, but some are not. Before you install the application, you’d better check if it is compatible with 64-bit version of Windows Server 2012.
    Best regards,

  • Advantages of 64 bit Tuxedo over 32 bit Tuxedo

    Hi All,
I want to migrate Tuxedo 9.1 from 32 bit Tuxedo to 64 bit Tuxedo. Please tell what are the advantages of 64 bit Tuxedo over 32 bit Tuxedo.
Our Machines on which Tuxedo and Oracle are installed have 64 bit IBM AIX OS. Oracle is also 64 bit but Tuxedo is 32 bit.
    Thanks in advance.
Edited by: Ravi Ranjan Karn on Feb 17, 2009 8:33 PM

    Dear Todd & Ravi ,
We recently migrated Tuxedo From 32 bit ( 8.0) to 10.0 64 Bit . Regarding Performace we did not notice much improvment .
Rather it took more 4GB Ram to run smoothy ( it was running with 6 GB Ram ) .
We did the upgrade mainly for OS compatability , TSAM and SALT .
    Ravi ,
regarding your thread related with RAC , here is my understanding .
Any how we have to configure in ubb to connect to the instance(s)
As per Oracle - in 10gR2 , its not possible to span global transaction between two instances, it has to be in a Single Instance .( as per them its allowed in 11g , but performance will be impacted which i cannot compromise )
In this case , how we will make use of the 2nd instance of RAC .?
u have a common service let say SRVC1 , which is connecting to one schema-1 of database and part of GT and used by more than one application .say SRVC2 , which is connecting to one schema-2 of database and part of GT and used by more than one application .
in this case how you will , configure tuxedo to use the 2nd instance - which is not possible as per statement 1 .
Conclusion, as per the current architecture of u r Tuxedo , there is no point in introduction Oracle-RAC,
but we can use RAC , by modifying Tuxedo
    1. programmatically , change tuxedo to use the SRVC2 , in case a failure occurs in the call to SRVC1
    2. replicate the SRVC1,SRVC2 and connect to the second Instance , route transactions in to this service from some applications .
    3. simple way .. keep a secondary ubbconf2 file to point the second instance , in case the instace1 fails , load the ubbconf2 and run ( but for this u need to bring down the whole tuxedo!!!! )
this suggestion is totally based on my understanding ... If guys think other way , pls share

  • Advantages of 12 bit audio over 16?

I am getting ready to shoot something with four cameras. I borrowed these cameras from friends, and one of the first things I did was to check and make sure 16 bit audio was set. I once shot some video with my camera and had some trouble in the capturing process in Final Cut Express because my camera was set to 12 bit, and I had the easy setup set for video shot in 16 bit. Now when I borrowed my friends' cameras, they were all set to 12 bit. I reset them to 16, but I am wondering why all these cameras SEEM to have a default setting of 12 bit audio (I don't know for sure if this was the default, but they were all on that). Are there any advantages to shooting with 12 bit audio over 16? Thanks in advance!

+" ... wondering why all these cameras SEEM to have a default setting of 12 bit audio ..."+
The manufacturers set the default at 12 bit because it makes it easier for them to support their marketing claims about the "4 audio tracks" and "audio dubbing / voiceover" capabilities of their cameras. They know their target markets and the concept of being able to record 4 audio tracks and do voiceovers in the camera is an appealing-sounding feature to the vast majority of video cam buyers - even though they'll never use it.
For someone who wants to edit video, there is no advantage to shooting with 12-bit audio. And it can present a lot of disadvantages. Do yourself a favor and always shoot with 16-bit audio.

If I stay with the free trial and receive over 50 responses will I get notified to upgrade?  I'm wondering if I will know if more than 50 people respond.

    Hi!
Just wanted to add some additional detail to Gen's response.
    With a free account:
The first time that your form reaches 5 responses, FormsCentral will send you an email letting you know that your form is seeing some action and that you may wish to upgrade.
Then the first time that your form reaches 45 responses, FormsCentral will send you an email letting you know that you are getting close to your quota, again giving you the option to upgrade.
Finally, FormsCentral will send you an email once your response count goes over your quota of 50. ie. on the 51st response. Responses will continue to be collected until the count reaches 75, giving you time to upgrade. After 75 responses, people accessing your form will see a message that the form is full.
    Hope this helps!

  • 64-bit OS over 32-bit on Windows 2003 ?

    Hi Guru's,
We have a 60GB 10.2.0.4 Production database runs on Windows 2003 (32- bit) with 4GB RAM size
On one server we often (every15-20 days) , We receive following error
ORA-04030: out of process memory when trying to allocate 1048588 bytes (joxp heap, joetstk)
We had to reboot the server at EOD.( to freeup memory at the OS level)
To fix this issue,We are planning to upgarde the current RAM size on the server from 4GB to 8GB.(with 32-bit).
But i have heard that just adding RAM on 32-bit Windows O.S. does not add performance as compared to 64-bit Windows O.S.
I am planning suggest the client to install 64-bit Windows 2003 OS on the database server.( Where i would have to install and upgarde my 10gR2 as per 64-bit)
But does it really goning to help me reslove ORA-04030 ?
Any suggetion/document /link on the same will be appreciated

ok, just to make it clear
    Windows memory limits: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778
32-bit server versions of Windows can handle more than 4 GB RAM with PAE (_desktop_ versions cant)
processors support this since the good old Pentium Pro in which 36-bit addressing was introduced in 1995
however, a 32-bit process can address a maximum of 3 GB RAM with the proper flag set
so if it is the only database running on that machine, it wont profit from the more memory installed in the machine, and the way to go is to upgrade to 64-bit
we have a customer who runs some smaller databases on a Windows 2003 32-bit machine with 8 GB RAM and PAE
none of the databases (or you could say processes) need more then 3 GB memory, so there this is valid configuration

  • SOAP Receiver over SSL - server certificate troubles

    Hello all,
I have a scenario with SOAP receiver communication channel with comunnication over SSL. In the URL there is a IP address for a reason I will not mention ... simply there must be IP address in URL and not a host name.
When I access the SOAP server with internet browser it gives me a server certificate with HOST NAME in CN. I placed this certificate to the "trusted container" in J2EEVisAdmin - Key Storage.
Now you might already suspect the trouble: the certificate CN doesn't match with URL. This is obvios error we got many times on the internet (even in e-banking sector .. but we are able to skip it with our internet browsers' possibilities.
Could I set up something in J2EE server as same as in internet browser ???
    Thank you in advance.

    Got it,

    messaging.ssl.serverNameCheck=false
    Description:
The properties "httpsHandler" and "securityProvider" specify the class names of the HTTPS handler and Security provider used. The AF only supports IAIK. Never change these values! To activate HTTP/SSL, you must install the IAIK libraries on your J2EE Engine as described in the Installation Guide.
The property "trustedCACerts.viewName" defines which J2EE keystore is used during the SSL Handshake for trusted CA certificates. You should never change this value either. With "serverNameCheck" you can specify whether the host name in outbound HTTPS requests should be checked against the host name in the certificate of the server.

  • Audio from HD receiver over SPDIF on X-Fi Xtreme Mu

Hello,?perhaps someone could help me with following question:I've got a HD receiver that outputs the audio with optical S/PDIF. In my PC I've got connected a 5. sound system to a X-Fi Xtreme Music sound card that I now also want to use together with the HD receiver. Is it possible to connect the digital S/PDIF cable to the X-Fi Xtreme Music sound card, the sound card then has to decode the audio and output it to the 5. sound system over the Cinch cables?I found a Digital I/O Module that extends the X-Fi Xtreme Music sound card with S/PDIF input:http://de.europe.creative.com/shop/p...oduct=773&page=?So is it together with the Digital I/O Module possible to use the X-Fi Xtreme Music sound card in the situation I've discribed? If not, could you please suggest any other sound card that you think would be good/better for this usage? Thanks for any hintsAndreas

More info about the Sound Blaster Digital I/O Module. Which has the Dedicated optical and coaxial digital outputs and inputs. This will work for your X-Fi XtemeMusic soundcard. It works great on mine.
If you don't want to buy the Module on the creative webstore, just google "Sound Blaster Digital I/O Module" to find a different webstore. Some webstores have free shipping. Sound Blaster Digital I/O Module

  • HT4899 I  have received over a hundred emails today as bounce backs from emails I didn't send to email addresses unknown to me.  Obvious spam type content.  Anyone else have issues on a .ME account?

I am receiving multiple "undeliverable" emails as response to emails I did not send.  I am getting deluged on my .ME account.  Anyone?

When people receive emails which appear to come from their own address but they haven't sent they naturally tend to be concerned: however it's most unlikely that anyone has hacked their account, they've just been targeted by one of two common spammers' techniques: both arise because it's all too easy to forge the 'from' address on messages to be something other than the real one.
There are two things that can happen. One is that the sender has forged the 'from' address to be the same as the 'to' address (so other people will see it coming from themselves, not you), presumably in the hope of confusing spam filters. It's harmless, if extremely annoying. Delete it (never ever answer spam or try to unsubscribe from it), and you don't need to be worried about it.
The other problem, which appears to be what is affecting you, is that a spammer is forging your address as the 'from' address on a whole batch of messages. The first thing you hear about this is when you start getting bounce messages because the spam has been sent to non-existent addresses and is being bounced to you. There's no point at all in responding to it. It's infuriating but normally stops after a bit as they move on to another forged address.
There isn't really anything you can do about it: closing the account isn't really worth the hassle unless you are totally swamped, because you will have to tell everyone your new address. Apple can't really do any more than they already are about spam.

  • Error in receiver SAP system , while reading the xml received over Proxy

    Hi,
I am having one FTP to Proxy scenario, receiving complex XML file at FTP and have to pass this exact file to proxy in a single field.
As no mapping is required, created a data type with single node and both sender and receiver end.
After executing scenario, Data is displayed properly in PI moni, but when the file is received at SAP end, its giving error in SAP system moni that
"Error during XML => ABAP conversion".
The same scenario, when we are executing using SOAP or Mail sender adapter and proxy receiver, the interface is working fine at both ends.In SOAP and mail scenario, they are sending XML data enclosed in SOAP envelope.
but when the data is received at PI, the SOAP envelope is removed, and CDATA is being read by PI, and interface working fine.
Please provide your inputs in case of FTP sender.
    Thanks,
    Ruchi

    Hi Ganesh,
    Thanks for your response.
SOAP and Mail scenario are also using the same inbound proxy structure , and the proxy is working fine in both cases.
For FTP scenario we are reusing the same inbound proxy but we are facing error .
    SAP is getting
"XML to ABAP Conversion error with error id as "CX_ST_MATCH_ELEMENT " System expected the element 'Namespace of the inbound service interface' .
    Please guide.
    Thanks,
    Ruchi

  • How to set Decimal Point position from right to left Serial Read Evaluate Number within Range over RS-232

I am new to Labview, I am communicating with a TQ8800 Torque meter via RS-232. The 16 digit data stream is as follows:
    D15 D14 D13 D12 D11 D10 D9 D8 D7 D6 D5 D4 D3 D2 D1 D0
Each digit indicate the following status :
    D0 End Word
    D1 & D8 Display reading, D1 = LSD, D8 = MSD
    For example :
    If the display reading
    is 1234, then D8 to D1 is :00001234
D9 Decimal Point(DP), position from right to the left
    0 = No DP, 1= 1 DP, 2 = 2 DP, 3 = 3 DP
    D10 Polarity
    0 = Positive 1 = Negative
    D11 & D12 Annunciator for Display
    Kg cm = 81 LB inch = 82 N cm = 83
    D13 1
    D14 4
    D15 Start Word
I am using a modified version of the basic_serial_write_read.vi. I am attempting to parse the 16 digit data stream extracting out the number and whether it is positive or negative. I am having trouble with the decimal point placement. Is there an example that could help me with this? After the number is parsed I am then comparing it to see if it is within +/- 9.2 N cm. If it is then the test passes. I am outputing the data to a file. I have included the vi. Also how can I check for different units of the annunciator. Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

What is the definition of the End Word?  You will likely need to figure this out experimentally (the manual doesn't seem to define it).  Whatever it is, you should set that as the termination character and enable the termination character.  That will help you in keeping your messages in sync.  Just tell the VISA Reads to read more than a message should be, something like 30 should work nicely.
The error you are seeing is a buffer overload.  This means that the instrument is sending data to you faster than you can process it.  So you need to figure out how to perform the read faster.  File IO is slow.  So you should put that into a seperate loop so that your loop does nothing but read the data from the port as quickly as the data comes in.  Use a queue to send the data from the reading loop to the logging loop.  This is known as a Producer/Consumer.
And here is a cleaned up version of your code.  No need for your express VI or the formula node.  Some other general cleaning up also done to make it easier to read.

  • Windows 8.1 32 bit installation over Windows 8.1 64 bit

    Hello,
I have one 64 bit machine with Windows 8.1 64 bit installed.
To do some testing, I need to install Windows 8.1 32 bit OS on this machine. Steps which I am following:
    1) Boot the system from 32 bit OS DVD from DVD drive.
    2) Select Install button in place of Repair option.
    3) Select "C:" as drive where to install new OS.
    4) It gives me warning that it will delete all files from selected drive during installation.
    5) After installation, when I go to Computer=>Properties then in SystemType it is still showing me Windows 8.1 64 bit OS.
    6) It is creating one extra folder "Windows.old" on C: but all my previous files/folders are still present on C: after new installation also.
Can you please help me to install Windows 8.1 32 bit on a 64 bit machine (which has 64 bit Windows 8.1 already installed)?

WHICH IS THE BEST WINDOWS8.1 64 BITWITH64BIT INSTALLED OR 8.1 64 BIT WITH THE 32 BIT OS DVD AND WHAT IS THE NEW OS?
    Hi,
Windows 8.1 64 bit and 32 bit has itself advantage. While, if RAM bigger than 4G, it would be better to use 64 bit OS.
According to OP's description, it's probably install 64 bit system by mistake.
