16 GB of RAM filling up. Can't render Comp without errors.

Hello! I'll start by answering the provided questioner.
What exact version of After Effects? Include the minor version number---e.g., After Effects CC (12.2.1) or After Effects CS6 (11.0.4). Do notjust say "After Effects with the latest updates" or "After Effects CC"; give the specific version number.
I'm using
Have you installed the recent updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.)
Yes
What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.6.8"---not just "Mac".
If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)?
I get this error when trying to render a h264 codec: After Effects error: Photoshop file format error - out of memory. (-108) (45 :: 35)
I get this error when trying to render an Animation codec:
I get a different error when trying to export through Media Encoder:
What were you doing when the problem occurred? What is the exact sequence of steps that you are taking?
Using the render engine in After Effects.
Has this ever worked before? If this worked before by doesn't work now, what has changed on your computer in the intervening time?
Everything worked in CS5.5, I've never encountered RAM errors like this until coming to CC2014
Tell us about your computer hardware. Include CPU type and number of processor cores, amount of RAM installed, GPU, number and sizes of connected monitors, number of disk drives, and how any external drives are connected.
2.2 GHz Intel Core i7. 16 GB 1113 MHz DDR3. AMD Radeon HD 6750M. No connected monitors. One 460 SSD. Assets located in an external HD drive connected through thunderbolt.
What versions of drivers for your graphics hardware do you have installed (including CUDA driver and driver for display adapter)?
I figure I don't need to worry about this on a MAC but I'm looking for updates on AMD's website now.
Do you have any third-party I/O hardware (e.g., AJA, Matrox, Blackmagic, MOTU)?
Red Giant Universe. Optical Flares. Element 3D. All are in use for this Composition.
What kind(s) of source footage? When telling about your source footage, tell us about the codecs, not just the container types. For example, "H.264 in a .mov container", not just "QuickTime".
JPEGS are being used. All other assets created in AE.
Do you have QuickTime installed. (You should.) If so, what version? The answer should be specific, such as "QuickTime 7.6.2".
What other software are you running?
During the render? Dropbox and Google Drive are on?
Do you have any third-party effects or codecs installed?
Red Giant Universe. Optical Flares. Element 3D. All are in use for this Composition.
Are you using OpenGL features in After Effects?
Yes it's enabled. I think? It says it's active in GPU information tab.
Does the problem only happen with your final output, RAM preview, or both?
Both. After a while my ram preview quits working with the "2 or more frames needed" bug.
Are you using Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously multiprocessing?
I've tried with and without. Both are not preventing my RAM from filling up.
Are you using the ray-traced 3D renderer?
It is not selected in the composition settings, advanced tab options.
If the problem is with output, give your exact output settings (both render setting and output module settings). Screenshots help.
Animation Codec, h264 codec, or ProRes LT codec. I'm not making any other tweaks in the output settings.
There's so many variables in this. I use so many different plugins. Again, however, I've never had RAM problems like this on CS5.5. I figure I need to do a clean wipe of my SSD and reinstall everything, just to start this process of finding the problem? Thanks for your help in advance!

Things to try (in no particular order):
Get rid of that version of QuickTime. 10 is icky and 7 works much better in my experience.
Try the "secret" preferences trick to purge after so many frames and see if that lets you render.
Try switching Optical Flares to not use the GPU.
Try removing some of your more complicated Element layers and see if that fixes it.

  • Can't render: after effects error: internal verification failure. What can I do?

    I need to render a comp (h.264 default settings) and the process is stopped with the following error: "after effects error: internal verification failure, sorry! {could not find itemframe we just now checked in}".
    What can I do? I have already tryed to re-start Ae several times. The render stops at random points, when started again. The comp is very simple: a mp4 movie background, still PNG pictures one after another with opacity and 1 mask keyframed and write-on texts at their side, explaining the pictures. Thank you in advance for any help.

    User52142 wrote:
    Yes, the problem is that Ae seems to not handle well MP4 files. Why is that?
    After Effects works on a pixel-by-pixel basis. After Effects is not like video editing programs - they just deal with a video stream - in After Effects, each frame is fully uncompressed.
    MP4's use interframe compression. That means that they only have a complete frame every once in a while and the rest are filled in using a variety of methods including motion estimation. Depending on the compression settings, a video with interframe compression often won't have a complete frame for a few seconds. That means that, out of every 90 frames or so, only one of those frames actually contains full pixel data for the entire frame (and that frame is usually somewhat compressed using intraframe compression [like a JPEG]). After Effects has to decode a lot of crap and translate it into full-frame, full pixel information before it can even begin to process it.
    After Effects is much better with it now than it used to be. CS4 and earlier used to struggle with it bad. Each version since has improved handling of such things. Also, each version implements ways of handling newer versions of codecs. Keep in mind, version 11 (CS6) was written before a lot of modern cameras were even built. The current version (13.2) probably would not have had the issue you did.
    Does that explain it?

  • Can't render audio - General Error

    I've gotten the message in other areas too, so you can imagine how frustrating it gets when I don't even get any sort of explanation or number to reference so I can troubleshoot... just "General Error".
    This time around, FCP refuses to render any MP3 audio I drop into the sequence. Not much else to say. I've tried several different songs (including ones that have worked fine in the past), different sequences, different projects, restarting FCP... nothing changes.
    Please help! My workload is frozen until I can figure this out!

    I will try that, but it will be a huge hassle if I have to do this for all future projects. This is the first time in 4 years this has ever been an issue for me, and I'd really like to avoid adding another step (conversion) to the process if at all possible.

  • Can´t render&preview stabilized quicktime-video

    Hello all,
    I´ve encountered a very annoying problem while using After Effects warp stabilizer on a quicktime-video (4K, ProRes444, 24fps, 16-Bit).
    After applying the effect, I can see the results in the preview. But when I am closing the AE-project and reopen it the ram-preview stays black even a rendering is impossible. The RAM fills with data, the CPU start working high but not a single frame will be rendered.
    I tried:
    on/off OpenGL
    various multiprocessor/RAM configurations
    new project/new composition + new warp effects
    System: Mac OSX 10.6.8, AE 5.5, MacPro 2x 2,26 Quad, 24 GB, Render: 9CPU a 2 GB RAM.
    I would be thankful for any help.
    Best,
    Marko

    Hi Mylenium,
    thanks for your help.
    But the settings mentioned in the link you´ve posted were already made by default. So i tried to switch back to the non default. But non of them worked for me :/
    Mediacache flushing didn´t change anything :/
    Thanks!

  • Powerbook running slow--RAM filling

    Hello, recently my comptuer has been running extremely slow while running many applications at once. I now leave Activity Monitor open at all times so I can see the RAM usage, and it seems like opening up the smallest application will make the RAM fill up. Why is it doing this? I have 1GB of RAM, I think that is more than enough to run a few applications at once. Especially considering the fact that this never happened before.
    EDIT: It's not just my RAM, I just went to unstuff something after launching Bittorrent and the CPU meter is now at it's maximum. There is somethign wrong, my 1.5ghz processor should be able to handle such tasks.

    Edward,
    Suitcase is not a good app to run, we have it on 3 G5's here in work and it is always crashing/slowing the system. Every night before we leave we have to force the G5's to shut down because Suitcase crashes the Shutdown procedure.
    Install Linotype FontExplorer X, even though it's only a Beta it's still much more stable than Suitcase - and it's FREEWARE!

  • 12 GBs of RAM and Still Have To Render?

    My question probably belies some fundamental misunderstanding of the rendering process, and yet I have to wonder.
    Here's the deal:
    Latest Mac Pro, 12 GBs RAM
    FCP 7
    Basic transitions, e.g. cross dissolve, dip to color, still require rendering.
    I get the warning about RT, and have fiddled with that, and perhaps I need to study that more. I also wonder about the original media.
    We're mixing HD shots with a sequence set for SD. Is that perhaps what's causing this reaction?
    What other info would be helpful to better understand this problem?

    12 GBs of RAM and Still Have To Render?
    RAM has very little to do with rendering. In most cases, rendering is a task of the processors and in some cases, a task of the graphics card.
    As Luca has already stated, FCP, being a 32 bit application, can only address about 2.5gb of RAM. You'll find that working with codecs native to FCP, less rendering (if any) will be required initially.

  • Scrubbing smoothness & RAM filling up

    When scrubbing in the source or trim monitors, playback is not smooth unless I scrub back and forth a lot.  Does Premiere load frames into the RAM like After Effects does?  I notice that my RAM gradually fills up--don't know how to clear it...
    Shouldn't the video card (480, hack) be handling this?

    The only widget I have running is the one that tells me
    how much CPU an RAM is in use. (Not sure what a "sidebar" is).  I can kill that when I really need to, but the issue I am most concerned about is how Premiere loads frames into the RAM.  I thought the video card was supposed to handle that.
    In After Effects, scrubbing the timeline makes the line green and when all the gaps are out of the green line, scrubbing is smooth--no matter the size of the frames.
    Premiere seems to operating the same way, except there is no green line to indicate a "RAM preview".
    Also, the RAM fills up (according to my widget).
    After Effects has an option to clear the RAM.  Does Premiere?
    Does Premire fill up the RAM during operation?

  • How can I render an active link (yrl) within a UIX/XML page

    How can I render an active link (url) within a UIX/XML page.
    How can I get <jbo:ShowValue> to work in UIX/XML, or is there another way?
    Bill G...

    It may seem strange, but the <contents> of <rawText> aren't actually
    raw - it's only the "text" attribute that's raw. (It seems strange because
    it is. Ah well.) This is different from UIX JSP.
    So, try something like the following:
    <bc4j:attrScope name="Notes">
    <contents>
    <rawText text="&lt;a href=&quot;"/>
    <rawText>
    <boundAttribute name="text">
    <bc4j:attrProperty name="value"/>
    </boundAttribute>
    </rawText text="&quot;&gt;"/>
    Some text in the link.
    <rawText text="&lt;/a&gt;"/>
    </contents>
    <bc4j:attrScope>
    Thankfully, this will be much simpler in 9.0.3, when the following
    will work:
    <link text="Whatever you want">
    <boundAttribute name="destination">
    <bc4j:attrValue name="Notes"/>
    </boundAttribute>
    </link>

  • How to find out the amount of ram a computer can hold

    I want to know how to find out what is the max amount of ram my computer can actually take advantage of, rather than tell you my model and you tell me what is the max because I know it varies according to the model of the Computer
    But if you'd like to help the other way, here is my model: Macbook(13-inch, Mid 2010 [unibody]) basically the latest version of the white macbook.

    Pointdexter11 wrote:
    simple version: what algorithms do they use to figure out the max is 8GB
    That is not a simple question.  I don't think anyone here knows the exact testing process that Apple uses to determine what the max ram will be at the time of release.  This is done during the development process.

  • Can Lightroom render 1:1 Previews when importing my Photos?

    Q: Can Lightroom render 1:1 Previews when importing my Photos?
    FAQ revised 25 April 2009
    Ans: Prior to version 1.3 Lightroom did not support 1:1 preview rendering during import, the actual options for  Initial Previews being:  Embedded or  Standard. However, more recent versions allow four types of previews to be rendered during import (i.e.  Minimal, Embedded & Sidecar, Standard,and  1:1). It's also worth noting the following on Lightroom import behaviour:
    1.  Minimal (Lightroom default) or Embedded & Sidecar is by far the quickest method for getting your photos into the Lightroom catalog. However, the lack of Standard, which is the minimum that Lightroom can actually work with, means that the application will render standard-sized on demand (i.e. as thumbs/photos become visible within the photo Content area). Asking Lightroom to undertake this task at the same time as you're trying to use the application will result in sub optimal performance.
    2. Importing your photos with the  Standard preview selected within the Import dialog will take longer than 1 above, but on completion Lightroom will already have previews that match the minimum requirement for working in the Library. Assuming that you won't be looking at every image at 100% (i.e 1:1) then this preview size will allow you to quickly review, rate, label, even make quick colour/tone adjustments, etc the photos within the Library module. If you need to see a photo at 100% then Lightroom will render that preview on demand (while it's being rendered you'll see the "Rendering Preview" overlay appear at bottom of preview).  Note that when using a 23" or larger monitor it to is best to set the Standard sized previews so that they are rendered at 2048 pixels
    3. Importing your photos with the  1:1 preview size selected will result in Lightroom taking even longer to complete the import process than would have been the case if standard-sized had been chosen. 1:1 previews also take up significantly more disk space than standard-sized.
    If you're not going to be working on the photos immediately after import but do need to get them into Lightroom as quickly as possible, then the best option would be to choose import option 1. Once the photos have been imported choose either  Render Standard-sized Previews or  Render 1:1 previews from Library module Library>Previews menu.

    When I search these forums for "CFCopyFormattingDescription", I find a bunch of crash reports posted that look almost exactly the same as mine.  It appears there's a bug in iPhoto, perhaps when reading metadata from the JPG file (readRawTiffPropsFromPath).
    Interestingly, the Preview app can open and display the file just fine.  I even opened the inspector and it showed all of the TIFF and exif metadata just fine, no crash.  The file also opens just fine on Windows.
    Now how do we get the attention of the iPhoto development team so I can send them the photos, have them reproduce the crash, and fix it?

    i have mac pro i7 , 8GB RAM , 750 HDD , can i install windows 7 ultimate 64 as a parrallals desktop?

    Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities!
    Yes, you can install Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit in your Mac using Parallels for Mac. Just follow the instructions of the virtualization programs during the install. Should you need any assistance with the installation process, I strongly recommend contacting Parallels Tech Support (you must register with Parallels in order to have tech support).
    Alternatively, you can always use Apple's BootCamp if you want to run Windows natively in your Mac. Check their support page, Apple has a lot of good links explaining this solution.
    Hope this helps!

  • Adobe Media Encoder can´t render out AE Ray-Trace Composition

    Hey,
    AME can´t render out my composition (or sequence if i include the comp in a PP sequence) which includes some 3D stuff.
    I am able to render it out in AE in a few minutes, preview it easily in AE and even in PP but i´m not able to render it out in AME or PP.
    AME says it would take like 10+ Hours to render it and doesn´t come to an end.
    I tried multiple encoding settings but nothing worked.
    Also i checked, that cuda rendering is enabled in all my Adobe programs, but nothing helped...

    It raises another question: what settings do I need to encode the comp in 720p resolution without taking up lots of space?
    Well, it depends on whether you need a production master (something for broadcast, for example, or to use as a source for other encoding tasks) or if you want a version for distribution. If it's the former, there's nothing wrong with "lots of space" - A Quicktime file with PNG or Animation codec is a good idea, but it will take a lot of space. If it's the latter, H264 is perfect but there's no built-in preset to take 720 material to the web.
    You could do this:
    * Pick the generic H264 template. You'll see that it will give an error if you attempt to render, because the default setting uses an H264 profile/level which doesn't let you use HD resolutions.
    * In the H264 video options, set the "Profile" menu to "Main" and "Level" to 4.0. That will keep it compatible to Quicktime and Flash player, while allowing larger frame sizes and higher bit rates.
    * Set Target Bitrate to 5-8 Mbps and Maximum Bitrate to 9-10 Mbps if you're targetting web delivery. That's a bit over what Apple uses for 720p content on the Apple TV, for example.
    The H264 original preset will instruct you in the comment field to stretch to 640x480 in Output Module. There's no need, since you are using a profile/level combination which allows higher frame sizes.
