16x9 footage is 4x3 in camvas window.  Sequence set to animorphic????

Hello all.
I have searched the threads and can't find the specific answer to fix my issue.
Sequence set to animorphic. Footage shot in squeeze mode on DVX 100A. Digitized via Sony 900 calm shell as animorphic in FCP.
Problem:
When opening 16x9 footage file from bin, opens in canvas window as 4x3 (not 4x3 in 16x9 canvas window - viewer window remains in 16x9). When dropped into sequence, must change aspect ratio back to 0. Clip will not retain aspect setting and reverts back to 4x3 if taken off of timeline. Have to repete process each time. Clips do not need to be rendered.
Any help appreciated.

so when you double click the clip in the browser they open into the viewer window which shows them in their correct aspect (16:9)
but when edited into a sequence it distorts to 4:3 (and the canvas window is 4:3 not 16:9)
this suggests that the sequence settings are actually not set as 16:9 anamorphic
can you recheck them... with the problem sequence open and active, press Cmd-Zero or choose Sequence menu > Settings...
in the settings window check to see if the Anamorphic (16:9) checkbox is checked
if it is please post the exact details of all settings in that sequnece window plus all the format details of one of th eproblem clips (select one in the browser and press Cmd-9)

So I have a timespan that I shot in 108060i on my XH-A1.
I want to slowly zoom into the shot as the timespan takes place.
So basically I was just wondering how could I take my HDV108060i footage and import it into
a sequence setting @ HD720 so that I can zoom on the 108060i footage with out affecting the quality!
Does that make sense? Who knows this answer Holmes?

So drop the the 1080 source into your 720 timeline and FCP will automatically scale down the footage to fit ... so now if you keyframe a change in scale back up to a maximum of 100% then it won't affect the quality!

  • Record Widescreen (16x9) footage LIVE into iMovie?

Does anybody know how I can record widescreen 16x9 footage into iMovie? I don't think I can do it with the built in iSight camera.. I know I could probably purchase a widescreen firewire camera, perhaps.. but is there a usb or standalone firewire camera I can use to do this?
I like recording directly into iMovie for what I do, but I can't seem to figure out a way to record in widescreen mode.
    Thanks!

    You're welcome, Chazzzzy
You are correct that iMovie records the entire iSight image. Let's see what happens when you take a couple more steps.
When I drag the newly captured "media" to the project editing window to "create a new project", the image stays in iSight's normal aspect ratio.
However, when I click the "Play Project from beginning" button, the iSight clip ("media") is cropped to fill the 16:9 view window.
When I then Share that project to iTunes, the saved file also plays back at 16:9.
See if it works that way for you, too.

    Hi Suny152,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
You shouldn’t have any issues using the Transform tool in the Video Inspector to resize your RED footage from 4K to 2K.  This workflow is described on pages 13-14 of the
RED Workflows with Final Cut Pro X White Paper
    https://www.apple.com/final-cut-pro/docs/RED_Workflows_with_Final_Cut_Pro_X.pdf
In the Transform section of the Video inspector, use the Scale slider to adjust the frame size of the selected clips as appropriate for the new project frame size.
These kinds of aesthetic changes don’t degrade image quality, because Final Cut Pro X operates on the original 4K or 5K frame, not on the resized 2K or 1080 frame.
    Cheers!
    Judy

  • Problem: Sequence setting for adobe premiere pro CS 5.5

I'm using Adobe Pr to edit my video. When I import the video (details as below) to pr, it does not have any image (got sound only)
I'm very confuse about the sequence setting. I'm still new in using adobe software.
Which sequence should be suitable for my video editing?
    Camera : Canon EOS 70D
    Frame size : 1280 x 720
    Frame Rate : 50 frame / second

Does the video play in the Project Window (as shown below) or Source Monitor?
Is there a videofile (apart from the audio part) in the timeline. Does it show black or is the videotrack empty. Has the video track been targeted?

  • How to customize sequence setting

    Hi,
It is probably a very basic question but cannot find how to customize the sequence settings.
When I created new project, I chose NTCS setting.
The movie source I used is 1280x960. When I drag it in the sequence window, it doesn't fit in the format. (It looks like it crops the movie)
I clicked on Sequence Setting menu to edit, but size is in grey and therefore cannot change the size.
Does anyone can explain me what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance

Start over by making a new sequence, hit General, then change the Editing Mode to Desktop (dropdownmenu)
Now you can set everything manually.
Copy content old sequence into this new sequence if you do not want to edit all over.

  • .MTS transfer headache, and sequence setting suggestion needed

    Hello forum users...
I am trying to edit a sequence with scenes captured on a variety of recording devices (SONY AVCHD, GoPro, and ScreenFlow screen capture)...It's a headache enough to try and get them all to match up for size and compression. I bought emicsoft's conversion software and converted the original .MTS files from a folder on my desktop into .MOV files. FCP could read them (although I sometimes get a red bar on the timeline when I bring them in...), but when reviewing the original .MTS compared to the new .MOV I noticed a drop in quality.
I researched on the forums and saw how people were suggesting to convert the .MTS through the "Log and Transfer" feature... I tried this and was given this message: "00009.MTS" has invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches the supported media.
...so i researched further, and saw I needed to drop the file into Final Cut Pro>Capture scratch folder, which I have done, but when I try to bring the file into the Log and Transfer window I still get an error message, or if I try and just drag and drop, the icon for the original .MTS is grayed out.
...I kinda have steam coming out of my ears about now, so any suggestions would be extremely grateful...
P.S. while I have your attention, any suggestions on what "sequence setting" I need to choose if I am using these converted .MTS files in addition with other files that are mpeg4 (1440x1080) and DVNTSC (1920x1080)???????
    THANKS!THANKS!THANKS!!!!

I converted to a .MOV file (mpeg4) because I thought that was the best option I had using emicsoft's conversion software...you practically need a machete to get through all the options. Unfortunately Quicktime prores isn't on the list...
I got the MPEG Stream clip file, but when I open the .mts files I get a message: "unrecognized file type", so I got the Clipwrap program trial, and it looks like I can just convert .mts to prores 422 from there..
Which I did, and imported into FCP. Opened and played beautifully...it asked if I wanted to set the sequence to match the clip, I said yes. But then I brought in my .mov files (captured from SCREENFLOW, and also shot on the GoPro camera -at a different frame size), and imported them into the time line... the screenflow one became really small and went to the upper left corner and the rest of the canvas screen was some pink and green posterized version of the clip, and then when i brought in the gopro it couldn't play ("unrendered").
the screenflow.mov wouldn't open in Clipwrap, so I went into streamclip to convert to 422, and converted the gopro .mov also to 422.
I went back and imported all 3 different file types... the MTS converted to 422 played beautifully, the screenflow converted to 422 played beautifully, the gopro converted to 422 came up UNRENDERED in the timeline with a red bar across...
...now the gopro shoots at a different frame size..its not full letterbox, it come up more like a square..1280x960
I AM SO CLOSE...75% there... I THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP!
BUT, last issue to solve (for the time being...;) ...how can i get the 1280x960 clip to show up rendered?? I ran it thru streamclip and converted to 422, so that isn't the issue...
    THANKS!THANKS

  • Best sequence setting for Sony HXR-NX5U (1920x1080)? Also, why use Sony Content Browser?

    Hello,
I'm using Premiere CS 5.0 and I am hoping to find a sequence setting that doesn't require me to render footage from my new camera, a Sony HXR-NX5U.
Can anyone help me out?  Also, does anyone use Sony's Content Browser?  If so, why?  It seems like a wasted extra step in the workflow.

  • What Sequence Setting for 4:3 Aspect Ratio?

Just moved up from FCE to FCS2. Do commercials for small market cable and broadcast in SD 4:3 in FCE. Now in FCP I see a sequence setting for Frame Size Aspect Ratio NTSC DV that shows 3:2 aspect. Not really clear on what this is and after pouring through the manuals and searching this forum, still don't get it.
In the end, I want normal SD 4:3 TV commercials. In FCE, it was a simple NTSC setting. Does my sequence in FCP need to be 4:3 or 3:2? Need a little education on this and can't find any explanation anywhere.
    Thanks for the help.

What format is your source? I would never export out of FCP in that manner to achieve a frame rate conversion.
There are a couple of ways to change your footage from 23.98 to 29.97. The easiest I feel, is to select all the clips in your 23.98 sequence using CMD+A. Then copy (CMD+C),create a new 29.97 sequence and paste (CMD+V) those clips into your new sequence. Render and export a Quicktime Movie, Self-Contained.
However, I'm curious if you're shooting in HD based on your 23.98 frame rate. If you are, then you should be using a better SD sequence than DV which is 4:1:1 color sub-sampling. You may be throwing away half of your color information by working in that format.
    Andy
    Andy:
Using your method of copy/paste to a new 29.98 sequence solved the problem. Thanks.
What I had done to try out the new features in FCP vs. FCE was to create a 23.98 timeline (since I am shooting in SD 24pa with a DVX100A), add a Motion Master Template, add a few jpg's to the drop zones, add 3 NTSC-formatted jpg's to the end for the logos, add a Soundtrack music bed.
For future commercials, will likely be shooting 24pa footage, so wanted to figure out working in a 23.98 sequence. Just had not understood how to get it back to 29.98 for the cable company and broadcast stations. Your advice (copy to new sequence) makes it simple. Hopefully based on this info, I am still on the right track to accomplish my goal. I want to get the 24p look for some clients, but deliver the finished spots via upload to the stations' servers in a QT MOV.
If you have any other advice that would improve things, ready, willing and able to listen. Been Mac-ing since Mac Plus days, but new to FCP. Made the switch from Express with the access to 24p shooting. Thanks.

  • Best sequence setting for use with images?

    Hey all.
I'll be working on a project that will be dealing with mostly images. I have them in their original RAW format as well as jpgs. After messing around in Final Cut with the images, I've noticed that the Viewer will display the image crisp and clear and once displayed on the Canvas window, the image is slightly blurred and the quality is decreased slightly which I'm assuming is because of sequence setting? Basically I'm wondering what my settings should be to produce the highest quality images when displayed in a quicktime movie when I export it.
Examples of high quality images in a quicktime movie of what I'm looking for:

a project that will be dealing with mostly images...
And what will the other stuff be, video? What format?
The viewer always presents the image as is. When you place it on the Timeline, it takes on the attributes of the Sequence setting.
Your images might be 4000x3000 pixels, but that's not a video standard. Blowing up any video to those pixel dimensions will make it look awful.

  • FCP: What is the best quality sequence setting for HD Video with JPEGs?

    Hello,
If I am editing digital still images that are 3696x2464, in order to make them into a HD video in FCP what is the best sequence setting?
There are so many HDV settings and I still don't understand the aspect ratio options...
    please advise!

    Hello,
where do I choose the ProResLT in the setting window? and What should be the Frame Size and Pixel Aspect Ratio? I am trying different options and having a hard time finding a setting that doesn't distort or pixel the image. Please help!
Additionally, would this setting maintain the quality even when the movie is exported and burnt onto a DVD?
    many thanks.

  • Best Sequence Setting

What is the best sequence setting when combining HDV (1440x1080) and AVCHD (1920x1080) clips for eventual output to BluRay?

nd is that the same as choosing "new sequence from clip" for the HDV clip with the resulting sequence "editing mode" then fixed at"HDV 1080i"?
    Yes.
You could do this with the footage that you have most of then use the Modify>Interpret routine o nthe other stuff.

  • Sequence Setting For Stills - How to Get Sepia Look?

    Hi, I am
working on another project which has no moving footage, just high quality JPEGS and Photoshop files. Could someone make a sequence setting suggestion as I start this project. Everything will be encoded at highest quality. Also, is there a sepia filter in Ppro or After Effects that I missed/ Thanks Roman
P.S. Is there a work around for the Sepia if there is no filter. Thanks again

Could someone make a sequence setting suggestion as I start this project.
You should use a sequence setting that matches your intended delivery format.
Also, is there a sepia filter in Ppro
You can get a decent sepia look using "Tint" along with "Brightness and Contrast".
Effects > Video Effects > Color Correction
If you need more control of your tinting, you might consider doing your
color correction / tinting in After Effects.

  • Sequence setting changed in mid edit.

Is it possible to chance the sequence setting after you've begun to edit?  I'm pretty sure my sequence automatically conformed to the footage when I began. Everything was normal and when I got to the end it was pixelated. the sequence setting is 720x480.  I don't know what i did.

Perhaps the items towards the end of your Sequence need to be rendered because they:
    Use a different codec.
Are large .jpeg images with movement.
Use filters which do not play back at full quality.
Easy to tell. Do you have a colored line above the clips on the Timeline?
