1TB G Drive Problem

Hello im having some problems with my 1TB G Drive, My hard drive is not recognising i tried to repair it but i get this message ' disk utility stopped verifying " disk4s2" please can anyone help id be grateful many thanks
if its hard for everyone to find the answer ive got a second external hard drive but i dont know how to back up from this drive to the other drive because my g drive is not reconizable and wont open i got this message
" disk utility cant repair this disk back up as many as your files as possible , reformat the disk and restore your back up files" but if the computer is not recongzing the hard drive how can i back up help please

So you have a primary drive with data, in an external case, are using a Mac Pro (workstation) and all the 4 iinternal drive bays are full?
I would say you should have a backup but maybe the most recent changes have not yet been backed up.
To rule out the enclosure take the drive out and install it internally.
You may need something more than Disk Utility.

I have a Seagate Freeagent 1TB external drive that ejects it's self in the middle of the time machine backup, then disappears and can't be found unless I turn it off and back on again. Any ideas?

Hmmm.. sorry to jump in but...
I Wish I had seen this before I got mine.
Mine has been doing this auto eject stuff too.
I think I just plugged it in and TM let me select it but is it possible
I should have reformatted it with DU first, like with all the WD drive problems ?
Is it too late for that ?
Or just try to return it or get rid of it ?

  • My time Machine keeps saying, "Time Machine could not complete the backup. This backup is too large for the backup disk. The backup requires 345.74 GB but only 289.80 are available." I have already excluded files. I have a 1tb external drive. HELP!!!

For over two weeks now I have been frustated and not having my TIme Machine back up to my 1tb external drive. I dont understand why now its a problem.  It keeps saying
"This backup is too large for the backup disk. The backup requires 345.74GB but only 289.80GB are avialable.  Time Machine needs work space on the bakup disk, in addition to the space required to store backups. Open Time Machine preferences to select a large backup disk or make the bakup smaller by excluding files." So I have already excluded almost all of my files, and even deleted the backup disk yet, that quote still keeps popping up. I am truly at a wall with this. I have a Mac OS X version 10.7.5. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE????

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • "No Bootable Device" after failed Boot Camp installation (Windows 8 - 1TB Fusion Drive)

On my new iMac /w a 1TB Fusion Drive, I tried to install Windows 8 (still technically unsupported) using the following method:
    http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2012/11/no-support-no-problem-inst alling-windows-8-on-a-mac-with-boot-camp/
Everything was proceeding just fine; I had Boot Camp copy all of the Windows 8 files (a legitimate, store-bought copy) to a bootable USB drive - a feature only available on new Macs running Boot Camp Assistant that don't come with an internal optical drive - and create a 102 Gb partition on the Fusion Drive. It then rebooted and was proceeding through the Windows 8 setup wizard as should be expected, but it couldn't modify any of the partitions on the Fusion Drive and wouldn't proceed. I accepted defeat and decided I would just wait until Windows 8 is officially supported before trying again.
Now, every time I turn the computer on, I get an error message saying "No Bootable Device...", unless I hold down the Option key and manually select "Macintosh HD" (the only boot device listed). I already removed the primary Windows 8 partition, but it hasn't fixed the issue.
I'm thinking that it's one of the 'hidden' partitions causing it to behave like this, or something wrong with the EFI bootloader, but I don't know how to proceed. Any thoughts on this?

I actually did try this (forgot to mention it), and it didn't fix the problem.
However, I just resolved it on my own, doing what I probably should have tried before anything else: running "Repair Disk" in Disk Utility updated all of the boot preferences as it should have.

I see his response to your post. I'm guessing you don't understanding what he is asking......no slam against you......you just may not know these things yet.
Does the Seagate Ext. only hook up by USB not FireWire ?
Do you know what Disk Utilty is and where it is located on your system? If not we'll get you there.
That is where you can mount and format it for Mac.
If a windows formatted drive is not formatted FAT32 it will not show up on your desktop but may in Disk Utility.
The other thing, you have a MacBook but are posting in a G4 tower forum. They stopped making them years ago.
But I post both places and have both machines, so I will try to get you going.

  • W500 Seagate Hybrid 1TB SSHD Drive

Having just upgraded my ThinkPad W500's 320GB Seagate hard drive to a 1TB Seagate SSHD (hybrid) hard drive, using Drive Ware to clone the old drive to the new, everything seems to be O.K., EXCEPT Windows is behaving odd: the Start menu search function will not work, and neither will Windows Update and several other features.
Anyone face this problem? Some Internet searches have led me to believe the issue might be due to 4K Advanced Storage (found on the new drive) being incompatible with the computer, but I am lost to what, if anything, I should do. I'm running Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit.
Any advice, if this won't work, to an internal 1TB hard drive for the W500?
    Thanks very much.

    Hi Commando303,
It does sound like it might be an Advanced Format issue.  What operating system are you running?
There's a MS update that might help.  Installing the latest Intel storage driver might also do the trick.

  • Unable to complete Time Machine backup to Iomega 1TB external drive

I've read through all the posted topics related to Time Machine failing. I've run Disk Utility without errors; ensured that the external drive is formatted correctly GUID; 1 partition; Mac OS Extended (Journaled); downloaded TimeMachineBuddy; and still cannot get my new Iomega 1TB hard drive to complete a backup. Thanks, Pondini.
I attached a new drive last night. Time Machine prompted me that it needed reformatting, which it did internally, without going to Disk Utility. It then started a backup but hung on "cleaning up" where I found it this morning.
Again, the finder was taken out with the TM hang and I had to hard reboot (on/off button - restart doesn't work nor does force quitting finder).
Here is the sad log from last night's attempt. Since it mentions an entirely new set of failures I am now ready to point to my computer as the faulty party. $180 worth of external drives into this, I am reticent about sinking anymore money into this until I rule out the computer itself. This line "NSFileHandleOperationException:* -[NSConcreteFileHandle writeData:]: Input/output error"
seems to be the essential problem.

  • On Seagate 1TB external drive for W8.1 system image backup

System image attempt using W8.1 on a Seagate 1Tb external drive stalls and advises "Insufficient space" etc. I've tried expanding the volume, decreasing the volume, renaming the drive.  What I've read on this site requires using non-Microsoft
programs to solve a Microsoft issue.  As this is  a W8.1 issue (no problems with backups in W7) surely you Microsoft experts out there can come up with a simple solution for computer illerates lilke I am.

    Hi Jamesg46,
What was the exact full error message?
Also, please check your System Reserved partition space to see if it has a large USN journa.
If so,please try to clear and disable the USN journal on the System Reserved partition:
You can refer to the following thread:

  • Can I install a 1TB Hard Drive into a late 2007 17" MacBook Pro?

Can I install a 1TB Hard Drive into a late 2007 17" MacBook Pro currently running a 160 GB Hard Drive?

It depends upon exactly what you want to do with your Mac.  My old Late 2007 17" MacBook Pro only has 4GB RAM and it works fine.  It is a little slow if I am doing anything involving heavy computing (rendering video, compiling programs, etc.) but it works just fine.  In most cases, the increased RAM will help performance, but the cost can be fairly high with an older machine like you have.

  • Is it possible to put a 1TB hard drive disk in my mid 2009 13 inch macbook pro?

I want to upgrade my hard drive disk (macbook pro 13 inch mid 2009) from 160 GB to possibly a 1TB. If I bought a 1TB hard drive disk would it work in my computer and would apple install it for me? If not is there anywhere in manhattan thats an afiliate of apple that would do it? I checked out Ifixit.com and was looking at how to do it on my own but honestly I'd probably screw it up. Any help would be much appreciated.

    yes.

they would not install a hard drive you purchased somewhere else, however I'm sure a computer repair shop in manhattan that would be willing to.  If you are looking for an Apple affiliate, or an AASP, here: https://locate.apple.com/service/?pt=4&lat=40.7902778&lon=-73.95972219999999.  Call them and ask if they would do it for you.

  • I have a 2006 Mac pro 2.66 I was wondering if you can use a 1TB hard drive in each slot?

Can you use a 1TB hard drive in each slot in a 2.66 Mac pro or if the max drive size is only 500GB in each slot?

you can use 2-3 or 4TB drives, in each drive bay. The 4TB drives are slightly taller and need to check that it aligns properly going in. So it is just physical. most users have already upgraded to 1 and 2TB, and even 3TB for TimeMachine.
While upgrading, buy a 120-250GB SSD for your system. Your Mac will run better than ever.

Can you afford a new Thunderbolt case and cable? any case with FW800 is going to be slow 72MB/sec and less, and any new 1TB drive is capable of 75MB/s minimum up to 125MB/sec.
Thunderbolt storage can of course when setup properly reach 100's of MB higher using multiple drives.
Use what you have for a system backup or for secondary backup storage.
you might be able to take the drive - most cases allow you to open and swap drives - and use this:
