2 ACD 30" running on NVidia FX 4500--why is one brighter than the other?

Last November 2006 I bought a new MacPro, 2/3Ghz Xeon, 4/500GB SATA drives, 4/1GB 667 MHz DDR2 DIMMs, and NVidia Quadro FX 4500 video card to run a 30" ACD. July 2007 (last week) I added a second 30" ACD which is noticeably brighter than the first ACD. This holds true whether running OS X 10.4.10 or Windows XP Pro w/ BootCamp 1.1.2.
After 2 hrs on phone, AppleCare advises an appointment with AppleStore "Geniuses" since it's 8 mos old and still under warranty. Today, local Geniuses respond: "it's just newer technology, nothing wrong with either one"; "you didn't buy it from us (MacConnection)"; "dim down the bright one to make it match"; store manager offers to send older one back for unspecified repair but adds "it probably won't make any difference, and since you didn't return it within 14 days of purchase (last November) we can't exchange it for a new one. Besides, you didn't know there was a problem until you bought the new one, right?" The geniuses are uninterested in making a side-by-side comparison with a newer ACD and stand silent waiting for me to give up.
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem with two ACD 30s running on a MacPro? Or this trademark indifference with respect to service?
MacPro 3Ghz, 4x500 SATA   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   Windows XP Pro running GIS Apps (ArcInfo Suite & Erdas Imagine)

Hi and welcome to discussions.
I think there is some natural minor variation between LCDs bought at the same time anyway. They also do tend to become slightly dimmer with age. However, Apple did update the specs on the 30" ACD during 2006, including the brightness. According to the following article it went from 270 to 400 cd/m2, a significant jump:
http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2006/3/28/3369
When you bought in November 2006 I guess it's possible you got some older stock, especially if you bought from a third party retailer. I suspect there's nothing actually wrong with the displays themselves and hence they can't be 'fixed', other than to make some manual adjustments to the brightness etc.

Now why would I want to buy something that will be obsolete in a few years?  I really want to purchase an Live TV plan yet I need iOS 7 to run most TV apps.
Can Apple tell me why my iPad 1 is obsolete?
    g

It's not obsolete as much as the first gen simply lacks the power to run the newer operating systems. IT doesn't have enough RAM. If someone managed to hack it to get iOS 6 or 7 on there they'd just have a slow, boggy and unresponsive device. (think putting windows 7 on an old laptop.
Unfortunately software moves faster than hardware. Every thing goes obsolete. I've had my ipad 2 for two and a half years now and I know it only has so much longer left to it too. Just the 'joys' of advancing technology.

  • Qosmio X300 - one Geforce 9800 GTS runs hotter than the other

Hi.....Does anyone have a clue why 1 of my 2 gfx cards seems to be running alot hotter than the other? I would assume they would both be roughly the same temp. This is an example...Nvidia Defaul @ 1680x1050
    512MB GeForce 9800M GTS (Toshiba) 63 C
    ForceWare version 186.42
    512MB GeForce 9800M GTS (Toshiba) 49 C

    SLI Disabled
When i exited playing F1 2010 yesterday, one of the cars was 90C and the other about 58C......Im sure that isnt right. !!!!
Also i see that it says SLI disabled....again i dont understand this, as i thought my rig automatically switched to SLI mode when needed.
These temp readings was taken from the program speccy.
My laptop is a Toshiba Qosmio X300-15U....running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. 4gb ram. Q6600@2ghz.
Any help would be really apprieciated.
    Thanks

Well i'm sorry you've had such clueless replies to your question.....if i had a cent for everytime a "regular" toshiba contributor says "use compressed air" or "only use Toshiba display drivers blah..blah`.....i'd be a very rich man!
The simple reason why only 1 of your 9800m gts cards is hot is because it is the only card being utilised in most games especially recent ones like F1 2010.
You see the toshiba graphics driver you have installed on your Qosmio is nearly 2 years old-and it doesn't contain any SLI profiles for games that have been released after this driver was created (mid 2009).
Just because you have 2 Nvidia GPUs in the laptop it does not mean that they are being utilised everytime-in fact it is totally dependent on having an SLI profile for specific program/game within the driver itself.
If you open the Nvidia control panel and go to advance settings/manage programs you can scroll down a list of sli profiles for programs installed on you machine and also view a complete list of all profiles within the driver.
It is possible to add you own sli profiles on this screen by browsing for a games executable and adding it to the list of preinstalled profiles.
However in my experience this rarely,if ever, produces much of a performance increase and can sometimes cause instability-and is no substitute for Nvidias own SLI profiles.
So.. the only way you can gain an SLI boost in games is by having the latest driver with the latest profiles....but wait i hear you say..
Toshiba haven't updated the driver for our laptop since 2009!!!
Yes thats the massive downside of owning a gaming laptop especially one as unique as Qosmio x300-just see my post in the Gaming forum-`Toshiba display drivers and what they don't want you to know' and i'm not gonna go into all that again.
All i say is that you can get some great advice on using modified Nvidia drivers on Laptopvideo2GO.com and if you go to the forums and look under Nautis1100 Hybrid and optimus drivers you'll find a new thread especially created for owners of qosmio X300s.
    Good luck!

Here's an issue that surfaced when using CRW10, happens with XI as well, but not an issue with CRW8 - each one is hitting the same SQL Server db.
I discovered something today and I'm not sure if this might be the road to a solution, however, I don't know enough about SQL Server and/or Crystal.  First, my reports seem fairly simple in nature, I don't think I'm pulling a million rows of data, maybe but doubt it.  So I run report ABC and I see blocking issues in SQL Server Enterprise Mgr.  If I run report XYZ that isn't too much different than ABC, I do not see blocking issues.  Hmm, what could be different?  In SQL-Mgr when I look at the SPID info generated by the report I can see the tables the report is referencing and below is what I discovered.
The one difference I see is under the "Index" column - the report blocking shows "XPKcall_req" where call_req is the table I'm pulling from.  The report that IS NOT blocking shows call_req_x0.  I checked with our dba and he wasn't sure, other than to say XPK is the primary key index.  Okay, then why is one report hitting the primary key index (whatever that is) and the other isn't?  In Crystal I'm not sure how to tell it to stop doing this, I tried shaking my finger and yelling but like my kids this does little.
Any ideas, with the report that is?

  • Why can one mac access the internet and not the other?

Hi I have just installed a 2nd generation Airport Express base station. I have setup a network and I can connect to it to access the web. Here's the rub, only my Macbook Pro can connect. My Macbook Air cannot connect? A weird error message says (translated from Swedish): Airport has the selfapplied/selfselected IP adress 169.254.67.130 and will not be able to connect to the internet.
Why can one mac access the internet and not the other? Is there something simple that I can do to get more macs to be able to use my Airport Express to access the internet?
    Tech details:
Airport Express 2nd generation (just purchased) model 1392
    Macbook Pro running 10.8.2
    MacBook Air running 10.6.8

It seems the Airbook assigns a dummy IP address so somehow it doesn't reach and receive an IP from the Express. I deleted the previous Express setting restarted the Air connected again, restarted the modem, restarted the Express nothing....
I spoke to the internet provider and the cable modem does not require any username or pw. from the modem to the cable it's one public ip, pure internet is flowing from the modem to the Express but the express doesn't seem to assign any IP address apart from the one assigned to the Macbook Pro.
Do you need a screendump of the settings on the functioning Mac or the faulty one? What settings are you interested in i.e. which tab should it shot?

I'm guessing you created the Enum on the front panel.  If you right-click it and create an indicator, it will match the type, and be an enum.  LabVIEW represents enums as U16, but because the types aren't identical (for example, your enum has 3 values, but a U16 has 65,536 values), LabVIEW automatically coerces (or converts) the smaller (enum) representation into the larger (U16) value.

I have the 6500A without plus and it is with a LAN cable connected with my Router.
First make sure you have the latest printer firmware installed.
Next restart the printer and the Router.
I had the same. Problem but it went away after rebooting the Router.

I just bought a slightly newer G4 and I want to find out if it is possible to transfer my old OS 10.2.8 system from one computer to the other so I can run my old ProTools system without a hitch. I would rather not buy the old 10.2.8 system as it is expensive. Thanks!

Need to know which newer one, some cannot run 10.2.x.
One solution might be to clone the 10.2.8 Drive to another drive, then Install a later OS on it Preserving Users & Settings.
Best way to get an exact bootable copy of your old drive to the new one is with Carbon Copy Cloner...
    http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html
Relatively painless Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...

Just be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings.

That would be imessage and not text message.
As stated by sberman, it's because the users are sharing apple id.
On each devices - settings - message - send&receive- remove or uncheck the apple ids.

That's what I told a helper friend of mine, but he told me
    the POST is done
by the server, not the JS files. That's why, according to
    him, he couldn't
tell me what code to change in the .js files.
But here they are, if you would be so kind as to tell me WHAT
    to replace
with WHAT so the call is made properly. :-)

Those are the 3 files needed for the script.
Should I be banging on Dreamhost's door to fix something, or
    not? Because
the exact same 3 files will render an HTML page just fine
    over on

Which is the guilty party? The script, or the server config?

  • I tried two dvd players,one freezes still,the other ok,Why?

I made a dvd with photshop/premiere 7.All still pictures with some music.I tried the dvd on two sony players. One works great. The other will freeze frame at same still. Why?

    Ok... some thoughts
Since you ask in the Encore forum, I will presume you created the DVD with Encore... which does, by design, create "legal" discs that are "supposed" to play
But... as I said, no player is required to work with a burned disc
Go to http://www.imgburn.com/ and scroll down to the link for the FREE version, now at 2.5
Tell Encore to create an ISO on your hard drive and use Imgburn to burn to disk... at the SLOWEST setting possible
As far as the 2 Sony models... I can only GUESS that the newer model has more built-in DRM "crapware" that is getting in the way of playing a burned disc

No, Detect Displays had no effect. However, I made the USB connection from the ACD to the iMac after the system was on. Following a re-start, all controls are available. Thank you for your response.

  • With both ApplyMRU and ApplyMRD, does one commit before the other runs?

This is related to another thread at How to stop insert of new row in tabular form if it's also being deleted I wanted to ask this question separately, however, for broader understanding.
I have a tabular form configured so that if a user clicks on "Delete Checked Rows", it fires the ApplyMRU process and then the ApplyMRD process. (This is mainly so that other edits are not lost when deleting some rows -- see the other thread for more on this use case.)
Both processes run, as I can see edits and deletions happening when the page returns. But it appears as though the ApplyMRU process doesn't actually commit its changes to the session before ApplyMRD runs, because it won't operate on the same record. Is that true?
    Here's why I think that:
    1) User clicks "Add Another Row" to insert a new row.
    2) User enters some information in that row.
    3) User then checks that row (say they changed their mind and don't want to enter it after all), and clicks on "Delete Checked Names".
The new row gets inserted (when ApplyMRU fires), but not deleted (when ApplyMRD fires). Other checked rows, however, do delete. This reproduces in both ApEx 3.2 and in ApEx 4.0, with the new, client-side addRow() replacing the old implementation.
    Is this expected behavior?

Nicolette - ah, I think you nailed it. The PK is being created in the trigger. So it's not in the form when it is submitted, but is created after ApplyMRU runs. There doesn't appear to be any way to return that information back to the session state, since it could span multiple rows.
It hadn't occurred to me that the delete would be using the PK, but of course, that now seems obvious in hindsight.
I've found a fix for this -- it seems a bit circuitous, and if anyone knows of a better way, I'd be interested in hearing it.
    Here's what I did:
    1) Create a validation that looks for rows that are checked (marked for deletion) AND do not have a PK set (just added to form), and override the value of some other, non-PK field to some dummy value. You can't override the PK field, or it results in a "Current version of data in database has changed" error. This also handles the case where some non-nullable field is null.
    2) Add a process that runs after ApplyMRD (when MRD button is pressed), and deletes all records with this dummy value, as well as any auditing table entries with that dummy value, if applicable.
Ironically, this solution is almost identical to the one I described in the other thread, and I might not have even run into this issue, had I not mistakenly coded my validation to fire when the request is MUTLIROWDELETE. Oops. :)
    Thanks for the help!

  • Running Totals, formula statement works one way, not the other

Here is the problem in a nutshell...
I am designing a report where I am using 2 running totals based on whether a SQL Stored Proc dataset field (text) is Null or Not Null...  So I design the 2 running totals and put this code in each "Evaluate"
    IsNull({usp_rpt_RemediationData;1.Action})
    - and -
    NOT IsNull({usp_rpt_RemediationData;1.Action})
The FIRST one works.  The SECOND one does not - that is, it does not add a count for it.
In other words, I am just cycling through a table and counting 1 field, checking whether its Null, or not.
Why doesnt this rather simple and straight forward thing work!!!!????
Any help would be most appreciated.

    The statement...
    NOT IsNull({usp_rpt_RemediationData;1.Action})
DID NOT work when used as part of a running total - even adding the check for blank instead of just null (though the field is truly null).
However, using the EXACT same statement in a formula written for running totals - it does work...?  Go figure...  I cant explain it.
    But thanks for the help!
