2 bootcamp partitions with the same win 7 software?

I'm running Lion 10.7.2 on a Mac Pro 4,1 (early 2009).
So my bootcamp partition with Windows 7 works fine, but I am running out of disk space. I'd like to move it to a dedicated drive that's already installed. I tried to image the partition with Winclone, but I was not able to restore the image to this other drive with Winclone (latest version that is supposed to be compatible with Lion, ver 2.3.2?).
It seems, I need to start over and reinstall bootcamp/win 7 onto my other drive. But, I don't want to simply erase my original bootcamp partion before I do that. Will I be able to use bootcamp assistant to install the same Windows 7 software onto a new bootcamp drive, while still keeping the original bootcamp/win 7 partition?
thanks

{{Still, it's too bad I still have to nuke my working bootcamp partition??before I do any of this. Maybe if I unmount the partition is disk utility?}} You have to make image before nuke.
A windows image backup is not bootable, it is a very long string of data = to your C: drive GBs.
After doing image from within Windows 7 to Internal "Work" disk, in Windows 7 Bootcamp control panel, change startup to OSX.  You reboot into OSX & I thought you could run bootcamp against existing Windows 7 reducing it to 0. Reboot to OSX & do bootcamp space allocation setup to "New" disk, then Bootcamp would ask for Windows CD/DVD; rebooting with F8 where Windows Recovery/Restore/Advanced WhatchaMaCallit image from Work could be restored to "New" bootcamped disk exactly as it was before you zeroed it.
You want to press F8 because it will otherwise go into Windows install where I can't remember but do not think it will let you do image restore.
I expect even if you have problems after allocating new, you can boot with Option key selecting Windows 7 CD/DVD and F8.
This would not take long on internal drives.

  • Easiest Way to Migrate Windows Files on Bootcamp Partition to Mac Partition On The Same Computer)

I have Windows 7 on a Bootcamp Partition on my MacBook Pro. I want to start using Mac OS Mountain Lion full time now and erase the Bootcamp Partition.
I was going to use the Migration Assistant to move my Windows files (such as bookmarks, email, my enormous iTunes Library etc) over to the Mac partition but the problem is that Migration Assistant must be running on the Windows partition at the same time. Difficult to do when they're both on the same hard drive/computer.
I know i could just copy all the files i need onto an external drive but I'm afraid i'll miss something. Plus its alot of work. I'm thinking there must be an easier, mostly pain free way of making the move to MacOS permanently. I can't think of what it would be though. Any suggestions?

Yes, you can simply install the existing drives in the new computer's drive bays. Order is not relevant.
I don't see any reason why Windows will not boot on the new computer from the existing drive. If Windows considers that the hardware has changed all that's required is re-activation. As far as hardware interfaces all you need do is to install the Windows drivers from the installation DVD that comes with the new computer.
Snow Leopard will have to be installed on your existing hard drive, and it must be either a later build or later version than what is shipped with the new computer. Otherwise you will have to reinstall Snow on your existing drive using the installer DVD that comes with the new computer. SL by default does an Archive and Install so your drive is not erased when you reinstall OS X.
If you actually have software that ties its registration to some unique hardware ID, then all you need do is re-enter the serial number. Apple's software does not usually connect the serial number to the hardware, so I doubt you will have any problem with it.

She recently tried to update the OS via wireless internet.  The system became totally unresponsive.  I finally got the apple logo to come up on the screen, but nothing else.  I went online and found out that I could possible restore the system to the original factory settings.  I held down the home button and plugged in the USB cable which was connected to my iMac.  I went through the restore download to restore the system to factory setting. After the download was complete I ge the following error iPad Software download is corrupt. Welcome to the Apple Community.
I have seen previous versions mentioned in a pop up message before on iCloud.com, but I'm not really sure at all how it would help, as I couldn't get it to do anything.
The best advice I have at this time is to back up your work on your iOS device by regularly saving it to iTunes, if anything goes wrong you can then either load it into the numbers app again on the device or recover it via iTunes on your computer.
My syncs are immediate, I never get chance to see if it works in the background, sorry.

I am having a problem importing my images into Aperture 3 from my Nikon D800E.  The images appear as if red paint was splashed across the sky.  The Nikon software used to transfer from the camera does not show this problem and Photoshop 6 is fine with the images exported as jpg from the Nikon software.  Aperature does not even like the jpg images usable by Photoshop.  I am suspecting that Aperture is not correctly using the camera raw file.  Also, the histograms are radically different between the corrupted images and the Photoshop (good) versions.  Aperture worked just fine for me in June with the same camera.  All drivers and software are current as of this posting.  Anyone else out there seen this before??

Are you sure you do not have Highlight Hot & Cold Areas turned on? (View->Highlight Hot & Cold Areas)?
The bug in Digital Camera raw only affected Raw images. In your first post you wrote:

If the JPG's have the same problem then it isn't this bug.

  • I am a language intructor, can I use Adobe Presenter to work properly on both, English, and Spanish presentations with the same software?

I am a language intructor, can I use Adobe Presenter to work properly on both, English, and Spanish presentations with the same software?

It shouldn't be an issue. Ultimately, Presenter doesn't care what language the content or audio is in, it will deliver it just the same. The only issue I could see causing problems would be the player skin. It has Spanish lables, but they only show on a computer with the OS set to Spanish. If you want the student to view both and English and a Spanish version on the same computer, you may need to have two versions of the language.xml file where you have one that has the desired English lables in the "en" section and one where it has the desired Spanish labels in the "en" section. You would then swap these files in and out of the folder located at,C:\Users\{UserName}\AppData\Local\Adobe\Adobe Presenter\Themes , as you need to publish an English or Spanish presentation.

Start by looking around the examples that ship with LabVIEW (if you are

Also look around zone.ni.com for general data acquisition information &

  • Why can I not use Premiere Elements 12 on PC with Windows 8.1 when the vidio is done with the same software on a PC with Windows 7?

I have made a Video on one PC with Premiere Emements 12 and want to continue on a PC with the same Premiere Elements 12 on and Windows 8.1. The systen wants other Codec.
    What can I do?
By the way with Magix is it possible to work on both PC.

    Vaihingen
How did you go about transferring the Premiere Elements 12 project on Windows 7 64 bit to Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 8.1 64 bit.
Therein is what I believe is your problem. You in all likelihood do not have a codec problem of any kind, rather Premiere Elements 12 project on Windows 8.1 64 bit with disconnect between it source media and the project file. Here is how it goes.
When you import a file into Premiere Elements project, what you have in Premiere Elements is a copy of the original which is still at its hard drive save location. But the project must trace back to that original on its hard drive save location.
You may have the project.prel (project file) opening in Premiere Elements 12 on the second computer, but what I suspect to be the case is that you do not have the project media on that second computer.
If so....On the first computer, archive the project with File Menu/Project Archiver and its Copy Project option. Transfer the resulting saved Copied Folder to a USB Flash Drive which will be used to transfer the Copied Folder to the second computer. In the second computer, open the Copied Folder, right click the project.prel file in the Copied Folder, select Open With, and then Premiere Elements 12.
Did you set up disc menu in the Premiere Elements 12 Windows 7 64 bit project?
Please review and consider the above and let us know if any or all of that applies to your situation.
    Thank you.

  • Can I move my operating system to a different partition on the same drive?

I thought I knew what I was doing when I partitioned my hard drive and installed the operating system and everything else. The other partitions are for documents, photos, etc. It worked well for quite a while but now I find there is not enough free space on my start-up partition (24GB) to be able to do new installations. I have cleared a 50 GB partition on the same drive to be the new home of my operating system. I tried copying all the files in the System partition to the new drive but "Startup Disk" doesn't recognize the copied version. How can I make this work without having to install everything all over again?

Too true. I have been partitioning my drives since the 80's when it was "illegal" and voided warranties as was opening the case on a Mac. Now the cases open right up and you drop and slide in new drives and memory. And it has saved my butt many many many times. You put your operating system on one partition, from what I have read it is best on the first partition of the first hard drive in the chain, Master, if you have more than one drive. I have four drives with now down to 8 partitions with the last two 10.4.x OS's that worked well and my last 10.5 for emergency use, all on one drive in separate partitions and boot to them all the time with no problems. I always keep my last install just in case intact and bootable. It's no different than what is done with BootCamp and running Windows. Then put all your data, files, non-Apple applications on another partition(s). That way when the OS hammers, and it will, all you have to recover is the OS and your data is safe. Thenall you really have to worry about is certain preferences and databases that have to be on the start up partition that won't work when aliased. I have found them, and they are few, and use Backup from the iDisk software library to back these files up to my iDisk nightly. And having the OS all by itself makes back ups so much easier and smaller. But you have to leave Apple applications on the OS partition in the Applications or Utilities folder or the Apple Updater will not see them.
Before iTunes and iPhoto would allow you to link to databases that are not on the start up partition, I was aliasing those files from other partitions. Then early 10.5 it didn't work as well, now when you hold the option key prior to starting up in iTunes and iPhoto you'll get a window to go find or create any of many databases to run off of. I have done this for years with Apple, Microsoft, Macromedia, Adobe and many other applications.
So far my largest OS has been 14.6GB after I installed GarageBand and it loaded a ton of instruments on to the OS partition. I have been through this before and found them and moved them off to another partition and aliased them back and GB works great. Otherwise, even in 10.5.x you can have relatively smaller partitions. And yes you want room to grow, if even just scratch disc space that some applications will not let you choose or go off the OS partition. So I hover around 25-30GB partitions and have never gotten close to getting more that 60% full, fulfilling the 10-15% free space axiom that seems to get larger with every update. I have read here that several people that had taken their machines to an Apple where they replaced drives saying that the techs partitioned the drives and said that the minimum for 10.5.x was 12GB. As the updates flow, that will vary probably up. Plus Apple has some bloated applications and a ton of things that you'll never need or use that take up room that are a pain to find, like unnecessary fonts. A little extra space is always good.
I use CarbonCopyCloner to make compressed back ups and bootable clones. The older versions would not copy files that would be easily rebuilt when you booted that OS, thus cleaning up the clone/back up by cleaning/omitting files that normally get damaged. Not sure if that is part of the latest versions. I think they copy everything. Another great thing is that Apple installers and Disk Utility and can use them to restore or migrate from. Because of CCC, I now have it down to 10-15 to restore a crashed or failing OS from parts. I have yet to loose anything, except time in having to deal with an OS that sometimes has a mind of its own.
As you play around as I did when I was waiting for an Apple Tech Rep, and reran the Combo Updater back over a wonky install, to find out if you could do that, it was done and worked great just as he returned and said no one there knew. I told him that I did and it worked great. We kept in touch for a couple of months to see if anything weird happened, which it didn't, and now it is suggested and common practice. Just as the Tech's and I whispered under our breath in the 90's about partitioning. Now they suggest it and Apple will talk to those that have partitioned. As you see needs and experiment you'll learn (trial by fire) and all this will become second nature. So don't think this is too much and go for it. Just make sure before you are completely comfortable, have another drive, I use 25GB Rewritable Blu-ray Discs, to do regular normal, CCC, back ups until you get the hang of it. This method yields 6-8GB compressed archives. Then you'll have a place for your stored back ups and whatnot. I was keeping up to 5 iterations, i.e.: 10.5.1a, b, c, d and e. Once my paranoia subsided I pared it down to two since I could easily recover the small amount that I have to now from small back ups that are mostly aliases relinking files that are safe on other partitions.
So yes you can put/clone the OS to another partition. Just make sure you cover your bases, use an application made for cloning/backing up (CCC) and label your installs as not to have the same name on two OS's or you'll have a bit of a problem off the top remembering which is which. I'm on 10.5.5C2.
    Good Luck and Happy Partitioning.

  • A server with the same hostname could not be found!

    Hi macusers,
I saw that error on multiple threads but I found none related to my issue. So, before ignore it let's describe it:
Two MAC Mini: one early 2009 and second late 2010. Both OS 10.9.1, MacKeeper installed, 6+Gb for RAM. Both uses the same router to connect the internet. Both are LAN connected not WiFi. I even changed the DNS addresses on router using Google DNS.
    On Mac 2009:
    1. Safari opens pages randomly. Sometimes a website is not open but when I create a new tab and select the website from bookmarks the website is opened while in previous tab still says: Safari cannot find the server .... All those websites are used in my daily work. I am not reseting Safari unless necesary.
    2. MAIL is showing online only Gmail acccount from 4 accounts. The rest of the accounts are not Gmail and appear as Offline. I restart MAIL and they appear online. I have to do that Open/Close MAIL several times a day.
    3. Sharefile and oDesk Team application cannot be opened because of that error: A server with the same hostname could not be found!
    4. Apple Store is displaying questions marks instead of the icons and I can barely see what softwares I have installed.
Now the beauty. Only on MAC 2009 I am experiencing those issues. The other MAC is fine. So far.
    What I tried so far:
    A. Reboot in SafeMode and Repair Permissions, Repair Disk. Everything OK.
    B. PRAM Reset and SMC Reset.
    C. Scan for viruses. No virus detected.
oDesk Team app is working fine on the other MAC and I managed to install it on Mac 2009 on Windows 7 partition as well. Is working fine.
Here are some screenshots showing you some of the errors I am picking on my side.
That one is taken while trying to connect to ShareFile. After three or four attempts it finally managed to connect.
That was a beauty. While MacKeeper was showing me that I am Offline, I was talking on Skype with a friend.
Still cannot access oDesk Team application. However, after several attempts it is logging but what is showing me is a real nightmare.
If I choose to see my contracts (though in the upper corner there is not my account) they do appear:
Any valuable entry will be highly appreciate it.
    Warm regards,
    Sebastian
P.S. I just remembered that I saw on a post in here related to the same error that someone from Apple asked a guy to make a test in terminal using a command line. I do it on my MAC and here is the result:

    Hi Grant,
Here is what I did and so far seems it is wworking.
    1. I deleted oDesk and ShareFile. I removed them using MacKeeper (I found this application very usefull for uninstalling applications as MacKeeper looks for them all over the computer: cache, preferences, application support etc.) While for oDesk is simple as I can look myself for oDesk in any file names, whith ShareFile was a little tricky to amke it amnually as MacKeeper find files that contain Citrix name then ShareFile. I will not guess unless I would search the internet on how to manually remove sharefile from my system.
    2. I manually delete all cahe files and folders from ~Library and ~User/Library.
    3. After reboot I installed Onyx and order maintanance where I checked all its options, including but not limited to DNS caches, fonts caches, everything.
    4. After I reboot computer, I went in Disk Utility and Repaired permissions.
Reboot again. Now seems to work fine. At least odesk Team is working properly. I will have a second thought for installing ShareFile.
Some romanian mac users suggested to check my router connectivity and change some DNS in it. Looks like that was also a problem on some MACs. I recall the few weeks ago I had an issue with TP Link router. My computer wasn't connected to internet, though router showed that there is internet connection. I ping router from my computer and I received answer from ping. I ping google from computer, nothing. I ping google from router, was wroking. I connected the computer directly to internet without router, was wroking. When connected back through router, nothing. I contacted the guys from TP Link and they suggested to use google DNS instead of those my ISP provided. But since then I had not experienced any issue with router and internet, until now. The DNS are still those from google.
I will keep you updated if any issues are appear again. So far, it is working perfectly as it supposed to work.
    Warm regards,

  • How can I see My Photo Stream from two Macs associated with the same Apple ID?

I have a MacBook Pro (my personal machine) and an iMac (our family computer).
The iPhoto library housing all of our family photos lives on the iMac.
The iPhoto library on my MacBook Pro is currently empty.
I have an account on both machines.  I have associated the same Apple ID with both machines.
When I launch iPhoto on my MacBook Pro and attempt to turn on photo sharing (so that I can see My Photo Stream, as well as other shared streams), iPhoto informs me that "iCloud Photos for xxx@xxx is being used with another library named 'iPhoto Library'."
My iPhone, which is also affiliated with the same Apple ID, shows the streams just fine.
What can I do to remedy this situation?  I'd like to be able to view my shared streams on my MacBook Pro, while leaving the actual massive photo library on the iMac.

I found out about this issue when I created a new library with some photo's I wanted to sync to my iCloud account.  I found the following on the Fat Cat Software page and thought it might be helpful to others:
Using Photo Stream with multiple libraries
Starting in iPhoto 9.2, Apple introduced a new feature called Photo Stream, which lets you automatically transfer photos via their iCloud service between your iPhoto library and your other devices such as an iPhone, iPad, or another Mac. This feature works when you have multiple iPhoto libraries set up, but there are a couple things to be aware of.
First, iPhoto will only allow Photo Stream to be active in one iPhoto library at any given time. If you've already enabled Photo Stream in one library, but then open a second library and enable Photo Stream there, this will cause Photo Stream to be turned off in the first library.
Any photos downloaded by Photo Stream are actually stored in an entirely separate location from any of your iPhoto libraries. This means that, even if you do switch Photo Stream from one library to another, you will not need to go through redownloading all the photos you already have in Photo Stream back from the iCloud servers. So, switching Photo Stream from one library to another is a relatively inexpensive operation, so you can do it as often as needed without it being much of a hassle.
