2 Computers - 1 Site

I purchased iLife '06 not long ago and immediately took advantage of the iWeb application. I've already created my own site, constantly updating and improving it when I feel the need to. I'm quite pleased with the capabilities of iWeb, but now that I've purchased another Mac, I don't know how to update my original site using the new Mac's iWeb application. In other words, I originally created my site on my iMac, but I'd like to be able to update it using my new MacBook Pro. I assume this is possible since most everything is published to .Mac. Does anyone have a answer/solution?
iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I'll just copy
my original domain file to the new Mac and it should
work, correct?
Hopefully yes. Make a backup just in case.
One more concern; say I update the
domain on one machine. Will I have to copy the
updated domain to the other machine
Yes. Here's a trick that may be helpful

so the only place this site exists is on the remote server?
    Define a new regular site.
Set the Local Site Folder to a new empty folder on your
    computer.
Enter the remote server FTP information.
If the remote files are in a subfolder such as www or
    public_html or htdocs
or similar, put that folder name into the "host directory"

open the Files Panel of dreamweaver.
    Connect to the remote site.

  • Installing FCP on 20 Computers with Site License

We have just purchased a 20 user site license for FCP for our school. I would like to install this in our lab, but I am hoping I do not have to download the app 20 times (once for each machine). Since Apple only seems to want to allow app purchases and installs through the App Store, this is becoming a bit of a pain.
While there are possible ways of interupting the download, and saving the temp pkg files that are downloaded, etc., before they are deleted, it just seems to me like Apple should have an ellegant way of dealing with this situation. Obviously this is not just an FCP issue. Any organization with multiple computers needs to have an efficient way of installing apps on multiple computers.
Am I missing something, or is there a proper way of doing this besides going to each computer and downloading gigs of data every time.

Thanks. I just figured out the same thing. Didn't realize that FCP was a fully self contained application. Interestingly enough, when I copied it over to the other machines, it did not even ask for a license code or anything. I am assuming that all that data is stored within the app somehow when we downloaded under the specific redemption code? The whole process with redemption codes is a bit strange, in that although you are given 20 separate redemption codes, apparently you just need 1 to dowload once and then you can install on multiple machines w/o having to use any of the other remaining redemption codes.

  • Online banking statement and credit card statements will not display in FF 4.0 on either Win 7 or XP. Falling back to 3.6 fixes problem on both computers and sites.

After upgrading to FF 4.0 I am not able to access or display my bank statements or credit card statements. I have a laptop running Win 7 and a desktop running Win XP and have same problem on both. Statements are in Adobe PDF. Upgraded Adobe to vers. 10 at banks suggestion but did not help. I have now fallen back to FF 3.6 on both PC's, and it now works on both PC's, one running Adobe Reader 9 and the other running Adobe 10.
Additionally, my email provider (bbwi.net) "Squirrel Mail" times out and logs me off every 15 minutes or so in FF 4.0, even when I am actively composing mail. Falling back to FF 3.6 also fixed this problem

  • Multiple sites, different computers, same ip addresses.

I'm at a site today where some client machines have identical IP addresses to client machines at another site (192.168.1.xxx). This is resulting in some kind of weird thing where when I try to interact with client machines, ARD tries to go back to the other machines with the same IP addresses.
So if, for instance, I try to install a package on a machine at site B, when the confirmation dialog window pops up, the computer with that same IP address at site A is listed. Trying to go ahead with the installation (or whatever) fails because, well, the computer at site A is not available.
Does this make sense? I'm typing in an awful hurry in hopes that someone can see this soon!

Yes, forgive me for not being clear... I was in a terrible hurry. I wound up just deleting all the computer records from ARD so there would be no conflicts.
    TeenTitan wrote:
If your at location B, and your trying to access computers at location B, but your computer records from location A is in the way. Have you considered creating a new user account on your ARD computer for location b computers.
    Yes.
The problem I was having is that I have two different sites with multiple computers, call them sites A and B. At site A, there are computers whose IP addresses are within the range of 192.168.1.100-150. At site B, there are many computers witin the same IP range. Where machines had conflicts at site B, they would be replaced with the names of computers from site A. Is this making sense?
So when I'd try to log in to a machine at site B whose IP address ended in 105, if there a computer at site A that ended in 105, ARD would look only for the machine at site A.
I did think of making a new user on the laptop, but UGH! That would be a pain!
Is it possible to have ARD only look at the MAC address of the computers or something? It seems pretty stupid that all it looks at is the IP address. It's possible that I could get the machines at site B moved to a different range, but I'm not sure how easy that would be. And I'd rather think there's an easier way to use this software.

  • Teachers sharing one dot mac with iWeb need help- sites are being lost

Sorry to be lengthy- Here's the question and issue first and then the background.
Question/Issue: Anyone know a way we can have multiple people (eventually 20 or so) with their own computers creating sites in iWeb and publishing them to a common dot mac account without wiping each other out?
Background:I am a teacher and at our school we have a single dot mac account. A few of us have been using iWeb (2 on iWeb 08 and 1 on iWeb 06) and posting our sites to dot mac with no problems. The iWeb 06 sites went to a folder under Web> Sites>iWeb in our dot-mac's iDisk; the iWeb 08 sites were directly under the Web>Sites folder. When sites were uploaded from different computers there was no problem (they all had unique names) and it worked great until this week.Even the 2 users both on iWeb 08 could send their sites to the iDisk and nothing would be deleted, just more site folders were added.
We are now all on iWeb 08 and so nothing goes into the folder on the dot-mac's iDisk under iWeb, they all go as unique sites- no problem I thought.
Our problem is now that when any one of us update our sites, it wipes out everyone else's site (since their site isn't on our computer). It didn't used to be that way 2 weeks ago !!! Could this be something new with the migration to mobile me (if it is, this really ***** for us)
I know a solution is to publish the sites to folders and then drag to the dot mac in sub-folders under Web>Sites instead of publish and each of us can have our own folder, but its a pain and not all of the teachers will be able to do this.
I think there is a feature in iWeb06 called personal domains, but I think we can only have 2, so not sure if this will help.
Does anyone know a way to set the defaults in the domain.sites2 file or in iWeb so it will use a sub-folder when loading up to dot mac? This way each of us can have our settings different and it will load for us automatically on the iDisk.
Does anyone know why this used to work and now it doesn't?
    Any other ideas- Help Please

    From my own experience.
When you publish to dotMac the index.html file in the root redirects to the top Site in the list of the iWeb domain file.
I use ca. 40 Sites in some 30 domain files. And most are customized after publishing. Plus a lot more irregular stuff.
iWeb remembers what Site in which domain was published last.
When I choose a different domain file, iWeb will create a new index.html file to redirect to the "new" Site.
As far as I could determine, none of the either published Sites are deleted. If iWeb did delete previous published Sites I would not change domain files.
In your case the following will happen. Every student publishes his/her Site(s). The last one published will be the default Site.
As long as no-one changes his/her Sitename or add a new Site at the top of the list, the default Site last published will be that.
Make sure everybody's Sitename is unique.
I use a custom index.html file in the root. So I have to pay attention that when I publish a new site, the custom index.html page is overwritten. I keep a copy of that index.html file in the root. I can replace the index.html file in case of emergency.
Does anyone know a way to set the defaults in the domain.sites2 file or in iWeb so it will use a sub-folder when loading up to dot mac? This way each of us can have our settings different and it will load for us automatically on the iDisk.
Don't look for hidden settings. If it was possible, it would be visible in the preferences. Accept the way iWeb/dotMac does its job. It wasn't designed to be used by multiple users with multiple computers and only one account. That should give you a hint.
All other problems are purely organizational. Personally I wouldn't trust multiple persons on one account. Give them their own account. If they mess up things they are responsible. Or find another solution.

  • Simplifying printers for multi-site users

    Windows 2008 R2
    Windows 7 Enterprise
Topology: Central network with about 50 users/computers and 5 servers. 25 remote sites, 2-4 users/computers per site (no servers at the sites). Each site also has one network printer.
Currently all sites have the same IP scheme (we use DirectAccess for file access so unique subnets are not required). All of the printers are the same model and have the same static IP. So no matter what site a roaming user goes to printing works with no
    confusion.
Some new technology is being implemented that will require us to make unique subnets (which is actually desirable for obvious reasons). At the same time we will be implementing site-to-site VPNs, so there will be full connectivity to AD/central site.
So, here in lies the problem. Our super simple printing solution, now will not work. Some users roam to a dozen sites or more, will they have to have that many printers? Then they have to make sure to print to the one that is online/ready? Is there a GPO
setting to hide offline printers or something? I wouldn't care if there were 25 print queues as long as only available printers were displayed. I see that there is some location aware printing features of AD/W7, but I am concerned all the offline printers
    will confuse users.

  • SCCM 2012 role out to secondary site - what network links do I need

I'm just doing the SCCM design for a service provider and I'm struggling to understand what connections I need to  secondary SCCM sites. There are 10 sites which have about 1000 computers per site. Do I need dedicated links into each
sites and do they need to be VPNs? What do I ask the network manager for?
    Louis

Note that secondary sites are *not* gateways for client traffic. Clients must still be able to communicate with an MP in the primary site. Thus, generally secondary sites are a terrible option for segregated networks. Secondary sites are designed for remote
locations where there are no explicit traffic restrictions, just bandwidth limitations.
As for dedicated links, not sure what you mean there. As long as the traffic can traverse the network, per the ports in the link posted by dekac, ConfigMgr (like all applications) doesn't care or even know about how that traffic gets from point A to point

  • Snow Leopard and intermittent network

I upgraded to Snow Leopard a couple of weeks ago, and now have 10.6.1. I also have Comcast for my internet service provider.
I have three Macs, and a couple of PC's, all connecting on my network through an Airport Extreme. All software settings (on the Macs) are up to date.
When I first installed SL, everything seemed fine. Now, I have a problem where every 20 seconds or so, the network connection drops. This is on at least two different Macs. (Both with SL.) When I run Network Diagnostics, Airport & Airport Settings stays green, but Network Settings, ISP, Internet, and Server fail. When I run network diagnostics from Safari, I go through its steps, and the network connection immediately comes back on line. After a few seconds (about 20 or so), the Network Settings, ISP, Internet & Server fail again. So, I can load one or two pages at most, then the network fails again, over and over.
I reset my modem for Comcast yesterday, and the connection seemed better, and I had hoped it was fixed. However, this morning it started constantly losing the connection again.
    Any ideas?

    Deb,
Thanks so much for your help. Unfortunately, I've been out of town, so took a break on trouble-shooting this. I just got off the phone with Comcast, and apparently they "upgraded" something, which is breaking a lot of routers. Consequently, I'm thinking my Airport Extreme may no longer be compatible with Comcast's modem.
When I plug directly into the modem, I don't seem to have as many issues, although occasionally I can go a long time without having problems with the connection, through the Airport as well. When I'm using my Airport Extreme, I may have perfectly good connection with one computer, but dropping the connection all the time with another. Right now, my iMac is working fine (through the Airport Extreme), but my MacBook is constantly dropping connections also through the Airport Extreme, so I have to use Network Diagnostics every time to load even one page. The computers are sitting next to each other, very close (less than 1 foot) away from the Airport Extreme. I have also experienced this problem with my iMac, so its not actually computer specific. Also with an iPhone and iPod touch.
The comcast tech was (naturally) quite useless.
So, I'm not sure what might fix this problem. Perhaps it is getting a different phone/internet service!!! (The ibuprofen is not helping much either!!)
I've done some speed tests, and the speed for the connection looks great.
    Any other thoughts???
Thanks so much for any suggestions!!!
    Laurie

  • Slow Broadband Speed Compared to Windows PC on Same Network

I have 3 computers in my office connected to a cable modem with a maximum download speed of 5mbps. My cable modem is connected to an Airport Extreme base station with the latest firmware. Two computers access the internet using Airport. One is my G4 PowerBook and the other is an new IBM ThinkPad. The third computer is an older Bondi Blue iMac that's connected to the Airport through the Ethernet port.
When I do speed tests on either Mac, I get results that are almost half of the speed I'm seeing on the Windows PC. This is true for most of the speed test sites I try. My favorite site is Speakeasy so I can try different servers. On that site, both Macs show speeds around 1600 kbps while the PC shows speeds at 3400 or better. These computers are sitting side by side and getting full signal from the Airport. The iMac directly connected also shows speeds around 1600.
The PowerBook is running 10.4.3 while the iMac is running Panther.
I'm stumped because it can't be the Airport base station because it connects just fine to the PC. It can't be Tiger because the iMac is running Panther. It seems like it must be some setting somewhere in the OS. I did try installing Broadband Tuner but it had no effect so I uninstalled it. I've also tried installing the network modifications that were posted in one of the threads and that didn't do anything either.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Michael,
Thanks again for your suggestions and offer to help. At this point, I think I'm throwing in the towel. I took my PowerBook to my other home which has internet service through a different ISP and uses a different cable modem. Without doing a thing, my computer connected to my Airport network there and was immediately running at speeds above 5,000 kbps. I think that pretty clearly demonstrates it's not a setting on my Mac but instead a problem with the cable service, modem or something in the infrastructure. Unfortunately, since the technicians get decent results on their Windows test machine, any results I find on my Mac are meaningless to them and they don't feel a real problem exists.
I've done many different tweaks and tests on my computer and on the Windows machine and the results are inconsistent. I can never get over 1,700 kbps on my Mac doing the speed tests and on the Windows machine, even downloading files off my ISP's local server is sometimes slow at about 260 KB/s although it regularly gets in the 4,000's on the internet speed tests. At my other home, I'm on a totally different ISP's network and can download the other ISP's local file at over 600 KB/s so something is just not right.
At the end of the day, I think my only option is to switch to DSL service. My local phone company is offering a 6 MB service with 512 upload speed for just slightly more than my cable 5 MB 384 up service. Because I can't pinpoint my cable modem service problems to any of my own hardware, I don't believe I'll have any luck pursuing this further with the cable company. I can only guess that something upstream was damaged during a recent lightening strike that hit my home and knocked out all my networking equipment including the cable modem, spliters and filters. Since all of that has been replaced, I can only guess that something further upstream was also damaged and they just haven't been able to pinpoint the problem.
Thanks again for your assistance. I really wish we could have figured it out.

  • Itunes not working with windows 7 in a network environment.

    Hello,
We are a Novell site and have a mixed group of computers on site. Everything from Linux, to Mac, to Windows, XP and 7 both Pro. We have the network set up that when a user logs in their "my documents folder" is redirected to a network drive. We have had no issues with this in Windows XP pro. However on Windows 7 Pro we can net get this to work. Here are the steps
Log in as local admin with is default so mapping or anything special.
Next we log in as our self which brings up the network mapping
    We install the program
Then what is supposed to happen is when ever someone logs into that machine they have access to all programs and everything automatically saves to their network drive. However this is not happening. If you sign in as local admin it all works fine but as soon as you add the network portion we receive an error stating that itunes could not start due to insufficient rights.
Can someone please help me with this.
We are on Zen agent 10.3.1

    novell.support.zenworks.configuration-management.10.policies is a better
forum since ZDM7 does not apply in the Windows 7 world.
However, I would start testing without any policies.
Most likely one of those policies is causing the issue.
Then it would be a question to ask on the iTunes about that policy such
    as redirected folders.
ZCM's only role would be if the redirection was successful or not.

  • Time Capsule is an excellent, albeit rather expensive, paperweight!

A quick scan through the discussion pages shows that Time Capsule ain't much use.
I have a broadband internet connection to which my iMac is attached by ethernet cable. It works fine. My iBook connects to the internet wirelessly and that works fine. So I have a little network.
Seduced by the elegance of the Time Capsule and its accompanying cant, I went out and bought one. Three or four hours later, there was no way in which it could be tempted to connect to the iMac wirelessly. In other words, it just did not want to be part of my little network. However, when I joined it up with an ethernet cable, I could get Time Machine to fly and it is backing up my iMac.
I felt that I had done enough for that day and so went to bed.
Today, I am trying to get my iBook to find the bloody thing wirelessly so it too can join in all the fun. Airport Utility spins round and round and says that there are no Apple Wireless devices to be found and it invited me to re-scan. Which I do, balls achingly often. The result remains the same: no device can be found. In desperation I brought the laptop to within a couple of inches of the Time Capsule but it made not a skerrit of difference.
I am highly unimpressed with this device: it just does not work as advertised! I should add that the first one I bought a few days ago started to make a noise like a plane about to take off and I was obliged to take it back to the store.
i do not seem to be alone in finding that these machines are just too sexy for their shirts.
    What next?
    David Amies

I was having the same problem you were David. I'm going through the non-stop rescan button pushing.
When I got Time Capsule it worked great, now all of a sudden it has a problem seeing my wireless network. I have 2 computers, MacBook Pro running 10.5.4, and 8 core dual gig 10.5.4. My MacBook sees our wireless network just fine. My tower doesn't see a darn thing. NADA! Neither does my Time Capsule, even though all three computers are sitting within 2 feet of each other with the Time Capsule literally sitting right on top of the tower.
Scanned and rescanned to no avail. Finally, after restarting the Time Capsule from the back where the tiny little restart button is, my 8 core sees the time capsule but the time capsule doesn't see the wireless internet network, and the laptop sees the wireless internet, but not the time capsule. I am going crazy!
And yeah - sleep prevails. Calling support tomorrow. Either that or I'm taking the paper weight back to Apple. I have never had so many issues with Apple products not working like they should - right out of the box. I've been using Apple Computers since 1995 and have never had issues like this. It's really frustrating because I know the ideas are great, but it's all just been kind of lazy lately. I don't know what to do.
