2 Node RAC abnormal behaviour
Platform: "HP-UX 11.23 64-bit"
Database: "10.2.0.4 64-bit"
RAC: 2 Node RAC setup
Our RAC setup has been properly done and RAC is working fine with load balancing i.e clients are getting connection on both instances. BUT the issue I am facing with my RAC setup is High Availability testing. When I send reboot signal to "Node-2" and the "Node-1" is up what I observe and receive complain from clients that they have lost connection with database ALSO no new connections are being allowed. When I see the alert log of "Node-1" I see the following abnormal messages reported in it:

Regards,
if above were really 100% correct, you would not be here posting about errors!Definitely but these situations could become the cause for new BUGS, isn't it?
I don't know what is real & what is unnecessary obfuscation.What part of the thread you didn't understand.
It is not a good idea to have subtraction sign/dash character as part of object/host name; i.e. "Node-1"."Node-1" is not the hostname it is just to make clear understanding. the hostname is "sdupn101" for node-1 and "sdupn102" for node-2.
ORA-00600/ORA-07445/ORA-03113 = Oracle bug => search on Metalink and/or call Oracle supportNewbie is my status on this forum but I have little bit ethics of using forums and suppot blogs. I searched but unfortunately didn't find any matching solution.
Anyway will update you once find any solution so that you can assist someone else in future.

Why was the instances shutdown? Did they shutdown themselves, or were they simply killed? What does the kernel log say? What do the CRS and CSS logs say? Were there issues with the storage layer (what do you use as cluster storage layer)? Were there issues with the Interconnect (what do you use for the Interconnect)? Is ASM used? Etc. etc.
Why the manual start-up? Did this include restarting CRS or just the RAC instances? Or were the servers rebooted? What did the manual start-up entail? -
Multi-table INSERT with PARALLEL hint on 2 node RAC
Multi-table INSERT statement with parallelism set to 5, works fine and spawns multiple parallel
servers to execute. Its just that it sticks on to only one instance of a 2 node RAC. The code I
used is what is given below.
create table t1 ( x int );
create table t2 ( x int );
insert /*+ APPEND parallel(t1,5) parallel (t2,5) */
when (dummy='X') then into t1(x) values (y)
when (dummy='Y') then into t2(x) values (y)
select dummy, 1 y from dual;
I can see multiple sessions using the below query, but on only one instance only. This happens not
only for the above statement but also for a statement where real time table(as in table with more
than 20 million records) are used.
select p.server_name,ps.sid,ps.qcsid,ps.inst_id,ps.qcinst_id,degree,req_degree,
sql.sql_text
from Gv$px_process p, Gv$sql sql, Gv$session s , gv$px_session ps
WHERE p.sid = s.sid
and p.serial# = s.serial#
and p.sid = ps.sid
and p.serial# = ps.serial#
and s.sql_address = sql.address
and s.sql_hash_value = sql.hash_value
and qcsid=945
Won't parallel servers be spawned across instances for multi-table insert with parallelism on RAC?
Thanks,

Multiple copies of same database on a 2 node RAC server - How to merge ?
I currently have multiple copies of the same database running on a 2 node Rac system. I am looking for a way to combine them into 1 large database but keeping the data separate.
The databases are copies of production for testing, development and a yearly "historical" databases .
All the databases are created from production, and generally have the same schema's , tables, procedures, etc however may be different versions and need to be.
Is There a way to use one large database and logically split all the different versions of the same objects into their own space in one database ? The structure cannot change as the database is for a 3rd party's Forms application the relies on the objects not changing names etc.
Ideally I am looking for a solution that will allow the forms application to connect to "test" and "historical" copies of our production database separately in the same database container.
Thanks for any direction.I currently have multiple copies of the same database running on a 2 node Rac system. I am looking for a way to combine them into 1 large database but keeping the data separate.

Multiple databases/instances on 4-node RAC Cluster including Physical Stand
OS: Windows 2003 Server R2 X64
DB: 10.2.0.4
Virtualization: NONE
Node Configuration: x64 architecture - 4-Socket Quad-Core (16 CPUs)
Node Memory: 128GB RAM
We are planning the following on the above-mentioned 4-node RAC cluster:
Node 1: DB1 with instanceDB11 (Active-Active: Load-balancing & Failover)
Node 2: DB1 with instanceDB12 (Active-Active: Load-balancing & Failover)
Node 3: DB1 with instanceDB13 (Active-Passive: Failover only) + DB2 with instanceDB21 (Active-Active: Load-balancing & Failover) + DB3 with instanceDB31 (Active-Active: Load-balancing & Failover) + DB4 with instance41 (Active-Active: Load-balancing & Failover)
Node 4: DB1 with instanceDB14 (Active-Passive: Failover only) + DB2 with instanceDB22 (Active-Active: Load-balancing & Failover) + DB3 with instanceDB32 (Active-Active: Load-balancing & Failover) + DB4 with instance42 (Active-Active: Load-balancing & Failover)
Note: DB1 will be the physical primary PROD OLTP database and will be open in READ-WRITE mode 24x7x365.
Note: DB2 will be a Physical Standby of DB1 and will be open in Read-Only mode for reporting purposes during the day-time, except for 3 hours at night when it will apply the logs.
Note: DB3 will be a Physical Standby of a remote database DB4 (not part of this cluster) and will be mounted in Managed Recovery mode for automatic failover/switchover purposes.
Note: DB4 will be the physical primary Data Warehouse DB.
Note: Going to 11g is NOT an option.
Note: Data Guard broker will be used across the board.
Please answer/advise of the following:
1. Is the above configuration supported and why so? If not, what are the alternatives?
2. Is the above configuration recommended and why so? If not, what are the recommended alternatives?Hi,
As far as i understand, there's nothing wrong in configuration except you need to consider below points while implementing final design.
1. No of CPU on each servers
2. Memory on each servers
3. If you've RAC physical standby then apply(MRP0) will run on only one instance.
4. Since you are configuring physical standby for on 3rd and 4th nodes of DB1 4 node cluster where DB13 and DB14 instances are used only for failver, if you've a disaster at data center or power failure in entire data center, you are losing both primary and secondary with an assumption that your primary and physical standby reside in same data center so it may not be highly available architecture. If you are going to use extended RAC for this configuration then it makes sense where Node 1 and Node 2 will reside in Datacenter A and Node 3 ,4 will reside in Datacenter B.
Thanks,

Hi,
Can any one please help me How to manually create 11.2.0.2 standalone physical standby database from 2 node RAC (11.2.0.2) database which is running in RHEL5 and ASM plugged in.
DB : 11.2.0.2
OS : RHEL5
RMAN duplicate is causing problem with network and we decided to go for manual creation of the same.
Thanks in Advance..Hi;
Can any one please help me How to manually create 11.2.0.2 standalone physical standby database from 2 node RAC (11.2.0.2) database which is running in RHEL5 and ASM plugged in.
DB : 11.2.0.2
OS : RHEL5I had similar issue, what i did
1. Used source oracle_home on standby server
2. Created new asm instance and use same naming
3. I took RMAN full backup on source and move it to target
4. I edit initora file remove RAC setting and restore db(also edited listener file)

ORACLE 10G 2 Node RAC on servers AB to 3 node 11GR2 RAC on new servers XYZ
Hi Gurus ,
We have a business requirement to upgrade existing oracle 10.2.0.4 2 Node RAC on servers A,B (HP UX 11.31 ) to 3 Node ORACLE 11GR2 on new Servers X,Y and Z(Linux and servers are from different vendor)
We don't have ASM.We have RAW file system
Now this has to be done with near zero down time.This is a very busy OLTP System.Golden Gate is not an option as Management is not going for it this time.
Storage is same for everything.I am thinking of the following ways.Please let me know if you have any better plan or if you want to correct my existing plan
Initially i thought of this way and i immediately answered myself
Plan A
1 ) Storage copy (BC etc..) exising 10g RAC Database files on A,B to new volumes allocated to Servers X,Y and Z ( I don't think it's possible as OS is different.I am not sure whether copying this way is possible or not , even if possible i am not sure whether new OS can identify these files or not)
2 ) upgrade 2 Node 10.2.0.4 on X,Y to 11GR2 .
3 ) Add a Database Node on Z
Plan B is
1) Build 3 Node brand new 11GR2 on X,Y and Z
2 ) Plan for how can you replicate the data ( This has to be a logical way)
a ) RMAN - Very time consuming as this is >50 TB Database
b) Golden Gate - Not an option.Even if we can use it , i see there are so many logical issues with golden gate
c) Expdp/impdp - forget about it :)
d) physical standby (Versions are different.If it is same version and Same OS then would have been best bet)
What would be the ideal way to do this with minium down time and with out golden gate
I think something can be done on the lines of PLAN A itself.
Requesting your help Gurus
ThanksHi,
Have you considered possibility to setup a logical standby and do rolling upgrade ?
Please have a look at the following:
1) http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/availability/maa-wp-11g-transientlogicalrollingu-1-131927.pdf
2) http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/availability/maa-wp-11g-upgrades-made-easy-131972.pdf
If you can practice on test setup, it looks a faster option than the others.

Hi We are in the process of converting single instance database(11gr2) supporting EBS 12.1.3 to 2 node RAC on RHEL. Which version of RHEL is better? if its 6.x then x?? The oracle document only says RHEL update 6.
thanks in advance.Hi,
Yes you can use any version but i recommend you to use 6.2

11gR2- webutil upload file to AS on two nodes RAC?
Hellow experts plz help with the following issue,
we are using 11gR2 forms on two node rac,webutil configured on both nodes. upload/download files to AS folder(UP_FILES) using our forms. node 2 is actually replica of node 1(forms,reports,UP_FILES). we are now facing a problem that the form which upload file to AS, only upload that to the node from where it is running say if it is running from node1 then it upload files to folder UP_FILES on that node( as the entry in webutil.cfg file) but we want that UP_FILES folder should be synced with each other on both nodes and a form running whether from node1 or node2 upload the file to both nodes at time.
How this will be accomplished?
--------webutil.cfg entry
transfer.appsrv.read.3=D:\UP_FILES
transfer.appsrv.write.3=D:\UP_FILES
-----FORM UPLOAD CODE
IF :CONTROL.FILE_LOC IS NOT NULL THEN
acyr3 := :CONTROL.TXTVOUCHERNO||'-'||acyr2 ;
FILE_RESULT := WEBUTIL_FILE_TRANSFER.CLIENT_TO_AS_WITH_PROGRESS(CLIENTFILE=>:CONTROL.FILE_LOC,
SERVERFILE =>'D:\UP_FILES\'||acyr3||'.PDF',
PROGRESSTITLE=>'UPLOAD TO DATABASE IN PROGRESS',
PROGRESSSUBTITLE=>'PLEASE WAIT' );
END IF;
--FORM DOWNLOAD CODE
FILE_RESULT := WEBUTIL_FILE_TRANSFER.AS_TO_CLIENT_WITH_PROGRESS
CLIENTFILE=>'D:\UP_FILES\'||acyr3||'.PDF',
SERVERFILE =>'D:\UP_FILES\'||acyr3||'.PDF',
PROGRESSTITLE=>'DOWNLOAD FROM DATABASE IN PROGRESS',
PROGRESSSUBTITLE=>'PLEASE WAIT'
CLIENT_HOST('rundll32.exe url.dll,FileProtocolHandler D:\UP_FILES\'||acyr3||'.PDF');
IF FILE_RESULT THEN
message('File downloaded successfully from the Application Server');
END IF;Well, you're uploading the file to one node, so this is no surprise. What you can do is to store your file on a shared folder (which might be a bit tricky on windows) or synchronize a folder between your nodes. Unfortunately Forms can't access ASM directly (assuming you are using ASM), so you can't store your files directly in ASM where it would be accessible from both nodes.

How to add a second database along with existing two node RAC environment
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can help me with this.
My Environment:
1. Two node RAC Cluster database (11.2.0.2) with ASM running perfectly (Oracle Sid = test-1)
2. I have installed a second single instance db on node 2 (Oracle Sid = test-2) with NTFS file system for datafiles
3. Database is up and running, but I am not able to connect it from any client.
4. I am getting ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
5. Database (test2) is registered with grid LISTENER
5. TNSPING from client machine response is ok
Am I missing something here, happy to provide more info if requested.
Thanks,

Hi Experts,
we use 4 nodes RAC (11.0.1) with 10.2.0. 4 database in red hat5.0
we want to add second database at ASM in RAC system based on manager decision.
how do I add second database in ASM with exist database?
Do I need to created new ASM insatnce?
how to create two new diskgroup? is it under existing ASM instance or new ASM instance?
how to reset ASM properity to support ( or new) ASM instance and two database?
Do I need to configure AMS again after added more space into ASM?
I could not find ducument that add seconf database into ASM in RAC system.
I want add second database by dbca. any experience for add second database in ASM RAC ?
Thanks for help!
JImHi... I'm in the same situation.
I need to add a new second database on a RAC installation based on already available ASM instance.
I'm using 11gR2.
I read your suggested documentation. Then I typed asmca and analyzed my asm configuration:
As you can see I have a DISK GROUP NAME with several FREE space.

!http://img682.yfrog.com/img682/562/dbca20100203173343.jpg!
Selecting Create button, I can insert some values as you can see:
!http://img403.yfrog.com/img403/9889/dbca20100203173403.jpg!
First question:
Is this the right way to create space for a new database ? Consider that running dbca.. no DISK GROUP NAME is available.
Second question:
When I created my first database on this DISK GROUP NAME no volumes were created. Why now I have to do it ? Is this necessary to really separate datafiles coming from different databases ? -

GLOBAL_NAMES setting in 4 nodes RAC
Hi Experts,
I have a 4 nodes RAC with 10.2.0.4 database at red hat 5.1
I find that global_name is nor enforced as
NAME VALUE
global_names FALSE
For stream, I need to change to true.
I want to know which default value for global_name at RAC.
If I change to TRUE and enforce global_nmae. does this changes affects RAC system or some RAC function?
Thanks for help!
JimHello Jim,
Global_Name will not effect anything at the RAC level. This only effects db link name. you have to have use dbname as DB link.
As per best practices document and other streams documentation .. Global_Name should be true. I have tested this. i have made this parameter false however i have created db link used by streams is same as database name which satisfies mandate requirement for streams. because i had to create one more database link in another schema in same database and this was only option.
So in a nutshell.. Global_names enforces dblink name same as dbname. you have a workaround.
Feel free to give it a go.
Thanks

Processes in v$process that do not exist in v$session (2 node RAC)!
Hi, all.
The database is 2 node RAC database (10.2.0.2.0)
on 32 bit windows 2003 EE SP1.
Our database is suffering "CKPT hang" from time to time.
I checked v$process and v$session on both node by the following sql.
select addr,pid,spid,username, program
from v$process
where addr not in (select paddr from v$session)
ADDR PID SPID USERNAME PROGRAM
56E2 1 PSEUDO
56E2 18 3984 SYSTEM ORACLE.EXE (D000)
56E2 19 4020 SYSTEM ORACLE.EXE (S000)
56E2 27 3176 SYSTEM ORACLE.EXE (PZ99)
56E3 39 2296 SYSTEM ORACLE.EXE (PZ97)
●select * from v$px_process
SERVER_NAME STATUS PID SPID SID SERIAL#
PZ97 AVAILABLE 39 2296
PZ99 AVAILABLE 27 3176
●select * from V$PX_SESSION
--> no rows
●select slave_name,status from v$pq_slave
SLAVE_NAME STATUS
PZ97 IDLE
PZ99 IDLE
I found the above processes which do not exist in v$session.
Is this normal??
Thanks and Regards.you see nothing in v$session because there is nothing to see ...
the Parallel servers are AVAILABLE , ie no session are running parallel executions (as shown in V$PX_SESSION)

2.) Below is the error when i am duplicating my primary 2-Node RAC to single instance DB. And it is shutting down my auxiliary instance.
